Where to Eat and Drink in Delaware Beach Towns

"Chewy on the inside and served piping hot in the morning, these are some of the best New York-style bagels available outside of the Big Apple. The owners have other locations in Rehoboth, Midway, and Milford." - Julekha Dash, Eater Staff

I don’t normally stop at this location of Surf Bagel in Lewes, but I was pleasantly surprised! The service and food are just as great as at their other locations. They have a large seating area, both inside and outside on the patio, so when the weather is nice in the spring and summer, you can enjoy your breakfast in the fresh air. I love that they also have a variety of branded merchandise for sale. I usually go for the bacon, egg, and cheese on a wheat everything bagel, and it’s always delicious. The staff is super friendly and ensures you’re in and out quickly. Plus, they offer a variety of brewed coffees to complement your meal. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
Good place for a breakfast sandwich they cater mostly to bagels, but they have other options as well. Coffee is also good. Great location, right off the highway easy access.

I've come to love Surf Bagel more and more every time I stop in. The bagels are fresh every time, and not too dense at all. They are HuGE. The sandwhiches are plenty to eat and tasty. It has a breachy/college theme which is exactly what you would expect. Even better, when the weather allows, having a coffee and eating outside makes it even better. It can get busy, so pick your times carefully.

We were so excited to try Surf bagels after seeing the reviews. We got bagel sandwiches for our family. None of the bagels were toasted as requested and they didn’t add the avocado that we paid extra for. The bagels also didn’t taste fresh. Very disappointing experience :(

Google
Went today and we go once a week. Ordered a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with extra butter toasted . I received a cold bagel with an extra large square block of butter on it!!! DO BETTER!! I know your team is busy and in a rush but, ITS JUST A BAGEL. Please do this right!! 🤦🏽‍♂️ #271

Different Cheesesteak’esque sandwich #1193. I got a steak, egg and cheese on everything bagel. November Saturday morning and this place was busy. I liked the surfer decor and names for everything. I read the menu (in my head) in a Keanu Reeve’s surfer dude voice. I liked that my sandwich was $8.50. The Chicago dog special looked interesting. I’m curious about the everything bagel roll. My sandwich was good enough. It was a little dry.

We went around 10a on a Friday in December. The signage about where to park and where to walk in is confusing. The parking lot is shared and half has asphalt while the back side has pebbles. We initially went to the wrong parking lot and, once inside, walked to the wrong counter because we had an online order. The staff were not friendly or managed properly. Even though we got a text that our food was ready, we waited 10 minutes for staff to get our order. It’s confusing where things are, like napkins and utensils, and staff seemed too overwhelmed to help. Our egg and cheese bagel had barely any egg. Our bagel with lox spread, tomato, and onion had regular cream cheese. We asked them to remake it and got a bagel with lox and too much cold, hard cream cheese. We also ordered the house salad with grilled chicken. The salad had too many purple onions and the chicken was shredded rotisserie meat with chunks of skin and brown meat - not a grilled chicken breast. The home fries were not homemade. We found it odd that there was no aroma of coffee like other bagel places. Still, this place does very well and had a steady stream of customers. There is no other competition for decent enough bagels in the area. We thought maybe management isn’t very good during the off season in December. We will not be back.

Google
We went in for two breakfast bagel sandwiches on the morning of July 5th and we waited for almost 45 min!! There were many others waiting for that long too, also frustrated. They made no announcements or any apologies about the long wait and/or slow kitchen. Most restaurant kitchens get backed up, especially on holiday weekends, but you have to be considerate of those waiting. And the bagel sandwich was meh. Very dry and salty. But the bacon was tasty. Definitely not worth the wait. Never coming here again.

Yelp
We were on our way back home from the beach and wanted a quick bite to eat, when I say this is not a place you want to skip!! From the bright, open spaced welcoming ambiance, to the super friendly service, yummy fresh bagels, crispy yet soft potatoes, and last but not least the breakfast burritos that are stuffed perfectly! 10/10 recommend You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Love coming to Surf Bagel anytime we are in town. They have the best bagels and burritos! I usually get the bacon egg and cheese bagel, lox and cream cheese with capers or the beach burrito. The beach burrito has avocado, spinach, egg and cheese. It's a big portion. Sometimes I can save half a bagel for another meal. The kids like the chocolate chip bagel. The inside is decorated with a beachy bagel theme. There are seats and booths inside and also outdoor seating. My husband loves their ice coffee. Will be back again!

Yelp
What isn't there to say about surf bagel? This is our first stop on the way into Rehobeth every year. We stop another time and then have breakfast on the way. Out of town! There bagels are perfection! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Whether you toasted or not, it is exactly what you want in a bagel. Let's not forget about the cream cheese. Our favorites are scallion and vegetable. My dad wanted to try something new this year so he got the apple cake which hit the spot. It was full of apple slices and with a sweet treat, he was looking for. The lines may be long, but they are efficient and your order gets called within minutes. With multiple locations, you can hit up a surf bagel when you're in the area! The location in Lewes is lots of fun with tables outside.

Yelp
I gotta say they were bought out by a local restaurant conglomerate, and opened more stores, the quality went down hill, all bagels are very lightly done, like factory bagels, and the soft center with a nice crunch is GONE, too bad

Yelp
Stopped in here with my family for a weekend bagel breakfast during the off-season (early November). There was no line but still a plethora of offerings -- bagels, bagel sandwiches, freshly squeezed juices, and other baked goods. It was hard to decide between a sweet or savory bagel, as well as what type of coffee to order (because there were so many options). The bagels we ordered were fresh with the perfect chew. The cream cheese to bagel ratio was spot on. We noticed a bunch of adorable merchandise available for purchase and ample room for seating both indoors and outdoors. The staff here was friendly and worked quickly to put out orders through. Definitely a great place to stop in for a breakfast or lunch sandwich!

Yelp
Bottom Line: Solid option for a quick breakfast. Surf Bagel in Lewes is a great stop for a quick breakfast or lunch. My husband and I stopped in to get bagel breakfast sandwiches and coffee on a cold rainy morning and we enjoyed our meal. The bagels were freshly made and our sandwiches were made to order. I had a sausage, egg and cheese on Egg bagel which was hearty and satisfying. We enjoyed our breakfast at one of the booths inside Surf Bagel and we were plenty entertained watching patrons come and go. Most people dashed in to pick up their call ahead orders and others placed an order to go. In addition to bagels, Surf Bagels also offers breakfast burritos, deli sandwiches and smoothies. For a bagel shop and deli, the menu has quite a bit of variety. I look forward to trying more items on my next visit.

Yelp
I stopped by the serve bagel in Lewis this morning. I live off of Route 9 so I come in the back way and the back parking lot to get in to serve bagel in. Louis is absolutely horrendous. There are holes all over the place. Please have somebody go out there and fix the holes people are gonna wreck their cars that the holes are so big. I'll probably stop going there cause it's easier for me to go in the back way from nine then go all the way around down to one and making a U-turn so please keep me posted if you can

Yelp
My daughter and I visited twice while on vacation to pick up breakfast. They have a nice little patio seating area outside that you can enjoy. They have many employees working to fill ordered quickly and efficiently. My daughter got a chocolate chip bagel with peanut butter and I got the same but with a blueberry bagel. Both toasted. I wait wasn't long and the staff was friendly. Overall, out experience was good and the bagels were tasty.

Yelp
Surf Bagel was a hit!! The bagels were warm and perfect. The cream cheeses were delish!! Definitely grab bagels here if you're in Rehobeth Beach. And the Malibu Bunny bagel sandwich was FANTASTIC and really enough to share with another person. We will definitely go back next time we're at the beach!

Yelp
Solid bagels, great environment, nice people. If you're in the area, I'd check it out for a nice breakfast option.

Brooke S.

Yelp
The French toast bagel is so delicious. The chicken salad is phenomenal. I make sure to stop here every time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Dakota T.

Yelp
I think this is my favorite bagel of all time... Surf bagel makes the most delicious chewy and soft bagels I've ever had. Also for a bagel shop that has a wide variety of sandwiches and other food items it's super impressive how well they execute all around. Their bagel sandwiches are killer and so reasonable, it's hard to pass up. They're so good I'd recommend getting a dozen and freezing them!

Sarah S.

Yelp
This place was walking distance to our rental. Ordered online and picked up. Staff was helpful and friendly. Got the egg, bacon, cheese bagel sandwich which was tasty! And also the coffee cake to have with the coffee!
google avatar

Yelp
Words cant explain how much I enjoy surf bagel, it's always popping off and for a good reason. The bagels are PHENOMENAL and never fail to put a big smile on my face, thank you surf bagel!
google avatar

Patty T.

Yelp
Surf Bagel used to have great bagels - and while it was always a little hectic getting your order - the actual bagels made it worth it. We order bagels online and when we got home it was not what we paid for and the quality was not the same.
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
This is one of our most favorite local spots. You definitely have to get there early to get the good stuff, but it is so worth it. Their bagels, sandwiches and coffee are so delicious! If you enjoy a place with good service, beach vibes, and great food this is it.
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
Overall good food definitely stop by for a beach breakfast or lunch treat. Service was ok and the ambiance was busy

Frank B.

Yelp
Great bagels and sandwiches. Always good. Pretty quick service even for a busy morning. Nice variety of flavored cream cheeses. My granddaughter always wants to go there when she visits

David C.

Yelp
Service was good. Parking lot is spacious. Bagels are great. Sandwiches are good. Coffee is a little weak. Altogether a good place to stop and eat in or take it to go.

Yelp
(This is for the Long Neck peeps). I love Surf Bagel. They are the only ones able. To make a bagel great. Of salt is the best bagel yet. With a huge spread of cream cheese. Spread for me which does nothing but please. And those breakfast potatoes. They have no foes. I love SB moved to Long Neck, knowing my salt bagel was so far away made me a wreck. Now, just a hop, skip and a jump. No longer a bagel grump. No, I'm a surfing fool. Because Surf Bagels rules.

Yelp
Great place down the beach! An assortment of Bagels to be had by all! Stopped in on our way home! Bagels were so tasty! Coffee was HOT and flavorful! Has an order ahead option online! Crazy busy in season! Can't wait to order from again on our next visit! I'll snap pictures next time as I was too hungry and just devoured my everything bagel toasted with butter!

Mark R.

Yelp
Parking lot was absolutely packed got inside very short line (2 lines) people everywhere from the time I ordered to the time I had my food was six minutes unbelievably good so impressed with how efficient they are here. Food is always fantastic. Bravo.

John M.

Yelp
After an unpleasant experience last Thursday 10/10 I would just like to thank Katie from Surf for reaching out so quickly in response to my post. She was very understanding of the situation and understood the circumstances. Again I thank her for responding and I'll be sure to give Surf Bagel Lewes another shot!

Yelp
These are seriously good bagels. I got the SLT - house made salmon bacon, tomato, lettuce, avocado . . . on toasted wheat berry bread. I know . . . no bagel? Not on the sandwich. It was hard to eat. The avocado slipped around, the "bacon" fell out, but it was really really tasty. The bacon was a little fishy and salty compared to lox, but it was good. I would definitely order it again. I wasn't impressed with the bread, it didn't have many wheat berries so it was missing the crunch. We got there closer to lunch than breakfast and some of the bagel flavors were sold out. I did get a half dozen including Old Bay, everything, and blueberry. All of the bagels were good. That perfect combination of soft and chewy. Coffee was good. Service was excellent. Prices are steep, but typical of the beach scene.

Yelp
This place can be a mad house in the morning but it's definitely worth the wait. The bagels are awesome, my personal favorite is the sun dried tomato bagel with garlic and herb cream cheese.

JS N.

Yelp
The food was good but just don't get the smoothies. At least in my experience, my friends and I ordered smoothies and got them 10 min later and they were completely melted. Also, the smoothies just don't taste good. they taste like juice. they were also 8 dollars each which was a lot. we threw them out :(

Michelle M.

Yelp
Really great food. So much variety on the menu! Be prepared to wait for a bit as it is very popular. We tried to order online but that option gets turned off when it gets busy (completely understandable) so by the time we got everyone's order put in online, online ordering got shut off. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
I didn't have high hopes, coming from NJ, which of course is the bagel capital of the country, but I was pleasantly surprised. The bagels were very good, the breakfast sandwiches were delicious and the lines move quickly.
google avatar

Paula V.

Yelp
the bagels don't taste the way the used to, I'm not sure why. drier and not as sweet as a bagel should be. I'm wondering if something has changed n the recipe or preparation.

Greg C.

Yelp
Well made bagels with good texture and a range of options. I'm a child of NY and know good bagels. I cannot eat the "donut bread" kind you see in grocery stores or chains. We are lucky to have a legit bagel shop in the area.
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Free refills on coffee was a bonus. Will definitely be back again. Will definitely be back again

Jody D.

Yelp
Great new location in Longneck, Surf Bagel has the best Bagels in Delaware. The service is top notch and just a great place to grab your morning breakfast
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
When I was looking for places to eat for our vacation, I happened to see the selection at surf bagel and had to try it. I had a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a French toast bagel and it was TO DIE FOR. I'm traveling with a big group, so we ordered 10 bagels online and they had them all done in just 20 minutes. They have their own door for pickup, so I was in and out in about a minute. Definitely check it out if you're in the area. (I didn't get a picture cause it looked too good and I had to eat it right away)
google avatar

Tara S.

Yelp
Stopped in for a half dozen bagel. Staff was not too friendly. The bagels were delicious. We opted for jalapeño+ poppy + sesame and one old bay to give it a try. The old bag was definitely different. Our group was split on it- half enjoyed the other half did not. Definitely will return for bagels.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Always crowded so be prepared to wait. Flip side is you are waiting for great bagels and sandwiches

Jeani W.

Yelp
Super friendly service, casual and inviting environment, and the bacon, egg and cheese on an old bay bagel is to die for!
google avatar

Sarah K. P.

Yelp
Nom nom nom! If you're in the area and this place is open... stop now and grab something (either eat it now or save it for later) this place is amaze balls! Stopped by during our Delaware beach trip and it was well worth the wait (both for the uturn to get into the parking lot with TONS of oncoming traffic and the wait in line). I had the chicken salad sandwich on a garlic bagel and it changed my standard for bagel sandwiches! Can't say enough good things about how friendly the staff was and how DELICIOUS the food was!
google avatar

Tim H.

Yelp
Great good. Excellent bagels and other baked goods. Staff is friendly and helpful. Prices have gone up quite a bit but what else is new?

Ken S.

Yelp
I've been going to Surf for 10 years. I used to love it. Here's what changed - 1- Bagels are smaller 2- Bagels are dry now 3- Bagels don't seem as fresh as they used to be 4- I used to love when the bagels were warm even late morning. I haven't had a warm bagel there in a long time I miss the old Surf

David H.

Yelp
The best bagels around. We are addicted to them. They have a chewy exterior and a delicious soft interior and are nice sized.
google avatar

Caroline H.

Yelp
If you love bagels, then this is the place. It can be very busy but they know how to get it done! Highly recommended for bagel lovers.
google avatar

Nikki G.

Yelp
My favorite bagel spot ever hands down. Every time I'm in Lewes I come for breakfast. The bagels are always fresh and the choices are endless. The smoothies are also delicious- my favorite is the mango and the hulk. My favorite bagel is French toast or the everything bagel. Their merch is really cool and great quality. The line here is always long because it's so popular but it moves so quickly and efficiently. You must check it out, you won't be sorry!
google avatar

Rosa W.

Yelp
These were really good but they aren't a New York bagel. They could use a little more salt and a crisper exterior but are far superior to anything else I have gotten so far in Delaware. Today we did a plain bagel with sausage, egg, cheese and avacado with scallion cream cheese. The total was $8.10. Everything was tasty but the cream cheese was really melty. It still had good flavor but it caused the other ingredients to try and slip out. This was a minor issue as everything was tasty. We will absolutely be back to try more. They also provide a military discount.
google avatar

Lana S.

Yelp
Came here before heading to Cape Henlopen with some friends ! I've read so many good reviews about this place that I had to check it out for myself :) I got a bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel. The bagel itself was fluffy and very good. You can tell that they are super fresh. My sandwich overall was amazing. There was so many people there eating bagels and enjoying their mornings -- such a chill beach vibe to the place which I love ! Def. Will have to come back when we head down to beach :)

Steve S.

Yelp
I have been eating here for years. It is a slower lower Delaware tradition. The bagels are fresh, breakfast sandwiches are great, many coffee selections and they they often have fresh squeezed orange and grapefruit juice. It can get busy, but the counter service line goes very fast. I recommend an Old Bay Bagel breakfast sandwich with two eggs and scrapple. Mmmmm! Good!
google avatar

Carol C.

Yelp
Great great bagels- sandwiches are also terrific--very professionally run! Glad they are opening new locations-

Al Y.

Yelp
Nice place to have some decent place. Good bagels, coffee, etc. It gets bit crowded is the only downfall.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
Fair warning, these are NOT New York bagels. But despite that, they taste pretty good! The bagels are small, but they have an overall chewy texture that makes the bagels taste fresh and very easy to eat. Not bad. They also make their bagels on site, bonus points for that! The service is also pretty good and the employees are nice. If you order a lunch item you get their homemade chips which for the most part also taste pretty good. I definitely feel this is how you can make a bagel without having to feel you have to go all New York on it.
