This is a locals only eatery. Amazing vibes and make you feel like you just stepped onto the North Shore of Hawaii. They are totally sold out to serving the local community, and helping anywhere they can!!! Awesome place come get a very unique experience of So Cal. Living!!!

Sandwich was very average. They recommended me the #1, which I got and it was dry and lacking flavor. Could have really used some sauce and it would have been much better. Maybe I just got the wrong thing, but I probably wouldn’t eat here again.

Great place to grab an authentic deli sandwich done the Surfside way. Great numbers to try are #11 #13 #16. All items on the menu with the hospitality of the staff is definitely a place to eat at or carry out 2go deli sandwiches. Near Liberty Station off Rosecrans as well close to the airport(about a mile) for the out of town tourist but a definite for the locals of SoCal S.D.

Cool place with a great surfer vibe! Places like this in my opinion define San Diego and the surf culture. I got the sandwich "just the tip" and it was good, not great or fantastic but it was good. I would get it again. The decor was awesome and it just made the place that much more cool. My friends and I enjoyed looking around and we all had something different which made it more interesting to check out the different dishes. I would recommend this place for sure.

A must stop EVERY time I'm in San Diego. I've had the Nimitz and the Admiral's Avocado Delight. Both delicious.

Well I haven’t tried their sandwiches but I can tell you that they’re Potato Salad is a 10 out of 10. I personally feel like it should be in every BBQ restaurant in San Diego. My only gripe would be is that it only comes in a small portion which is $4.99 so I get two little bowls, and only give my fiancé two bites😄 I truly wish I could get a at least like 16oz 🥰

The food it’s really good! I got the number 11, I asked the employee for a suggestion and it was really good. But took 40 minutes to prep it

Awesome sub sandwich with some great smoked brisket. Really good food, very nice and friendly staff. If you're in San Diego you must eat here. Very nice and clean restroom, and great atmosphere inside.. The chef proudly showed me his traeger smokers. Great professional bbq master.

Such a nice group of guys working at the Surf Side Deli. They make each sandwich to order and the bread is just the right amount of squishy. I prefer shredded lettuce over leafs on my sandwiches, so extra bonus star for that. Plus, the smoker out back tells me they actually smoke their own meat. They have warm and cold sandwiches, plus the option to have them as a salad. Some of the names pay tribute to the local Navy, others to surf culture. Hidden gem: There is a nice little patio out back that I never knew about before.

When the sandwich cravings hit, Surf Side Deli is "the" spot. Their menu is stacked with fire options, and I keep coming back for two faves: The #5 Indicator -- the ultimate tuna sub. So fresh, so good, it's basically perfection. The #1 USS Nimitz -- a turkey BLT that's on another level. The combo of flavors just hits. The vibe here is chill, the portions are solid, and every bite is worth it. If you love sandwiches, do yourself a favor and get to Surf Side. You'll thank me later.

Really enjoyed our trip to surf side deli. Ordered a #7. I really enjoyed the cranberry Dijon mustard, it added an extra depth of flavor. It was a good size sandwich for the price. Everyone in the building was super friendly and welcoming. I definitely want to come back to try one of the hot sandwiches!

You already know I'm a sucker for hoagies, so this review is about to be lit . I first tried half of a leftover hoagie from Surf Side deli last year when my hubby randomly stumbled up this eatery when he took a hoagie to-go on his lunch break at work-- he called me while he was eating on the road and said this was THE best sandwich he's ever had in his life and that he'll be saving me the other half to try later when he gets home-- aww, how sweet . lol He got home a few hours later and the hoagie still held its shape and still looked appealing-- I took one bite and said "are you kidding me?!, if it taste this delicious now, I can't imagine how amazing it would be fresh !!" . FYI-- when he told me the name of the hoagie was JUST THE TIP, I died laughing and said "welp, we BOTH love just the tip" . Recently, we finally had the time to head over there to grab some fresh hoagies and really check the place out. We got there a close to noon and got lucky with no long line. The setup is super cute and totally gives California vibes-- love it . There's plenty of seating indoor and outdoors. The cashier that was working was very friendly and was patient with all my foodie questions-- he even gave me a just the tip sticker !! Don't forget to grab some chips and beer to go with your hoagie ! Here's what we ordered: Just The Tip-- raeger Smoked Tri-Tip, BBQ Sauce, Herb Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Jalapeno Crispies and Provolone Cheese on an Artisan Baguette . I want to start off by saying it's the PERFECT size and its honestly the most beautiful thing ive ever seen. Its super juicy, like the tri-tip has been marinating in its own juices and the flavors are savory, smokey, and freakingggg IMMACULATE . Baguette was super fresh-- fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. Love the herb mayo, provolone cheese is my FAV, and jalapeno crispies are a WINNER . If you don't know what to order, get this one, FOR SURE. We also decided to grab something new to us, which was the USS NIMITZ-- Oven Roasted Turkey, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Cheddar, Avocado and Herb Mayo on an Artisan Baguette . This one would definitely satisfy the craving for a basic sub . Everything was super fresh, but it just was a little bit on the drier side for me-- I think I would've loved this one with EXTRA herb mayo and as a protein-style lettuce wrap instead . I wonder if they offer that ? Ill ask, next time ! All in all, another fantastic hoagie shop and I can't wait to come back and take another bite of just the tip. PS: I think they offer a spicy version-- You must bookmark this and try them out for yourself !

Not near the amount of meat as shown in video by the Sandwich Snobs....taste ok but disapointed

I heard good things about this place. I may have made a bad choice in sandwiches, I got the meatball which was not that tasty, the meatballs were dense but not too full of flavor. My co-worker got the number 16 which he enjoyed. He also got the macaroni salad which he said may be the best he has ever had. I will update if I try this place again.

Cousin invited me to try their tri tip sandwich. He said he heard it was amazing and he was right. Freshly cooked and prepared. Will repeat.

Nimitz never misses, and the PL Pointer is also good on a hot day. My wife always gets the bbq tri tip sandwich with the "clever" name. This place is a staple for sure! We usually get to-go, but there is indoor seating and a couple tables outside.

This is one of my most favorite delis in San Diego, I try to find a reason to eat here anytime I am in the area. They do hot and cold sandwiches right. They have seating inside or out on their patio. Parking is tight, so carpool if you're coming with others.

Cowabunga dudes and dudettes! If you're cruising for some righteous eats after catching some totally tubular waves, then make sure to hang ten into the Surf Side Deli in Point Loma. Located in a funky little strip mall full of fishing shops, this bodacious deli serves up some gnarly grub that will leave your tastebuds hanging five. Scoring a parking spot can be a bit of a bummer with all the switched-on surfers filling up the lot, but it's well worth maneuvering into a tight spot to soak up the heavenly aromas wafting from this hip hole-in-the-wall. One whiff of the fresh baked bread, veggie crispers and premium deli meats and you'll be amped to snag a table. I bellied up and ordered the Admiral's Avocado Delight sandwich - which may just be the most epic thing ever assembled between two slices of bread! Layers of creamy avocado, veggies galore and thinly sliced meats dripping with flavor all came together into the most mouthwatering meal since I paddled out at Pipeline. This glorious sandwich was a totally tubular taste treat! I washed it all down with an Arnold Palmer, which was a tasty mix of lemonade and iced tea. But as stoked as I was on the eats, I was majorly bummed that this bodacious deli closes up shop at 5pm. With my day gig keeping me hanging ten in the office late into the evenings, their early close makes scoring a handcrafted sandwich a bit tricky. So if you're looking to get pitted on some awesome eats, be sure to carve out some time before five and make the epic journey to the Surf Side Deli in Point Loma. Cowabunga! This shoreline shack serves up the sickest sandwiches in town - but you gotta get there fast before they shut it all down. A shore thing for good times and great food!

Have to say this has to be a local favorite. Great sandwich with an awesome surf reggae vibe. Tatis returns is a pretty decent but I think I need to drop some spice into it.

One of the best sandwich shops I have ever been to. Delicious bread with a crisp crust and soft chewy crumb. Top quality meats, especially bacon. Quality cheese & vegetables as well. Sandwiches are neatly made and done so quickly! My favorite Mac & potato salads too. Herb & black pepper, not sweet.

Dude, if you're reading this instead of grubbing down one of these bomb sandwiches you're already losing out. Best sandwich on the Point & I'd put a tri tip sandwich up against any sandwich in the city. Beyond the great fresh subs & salads, the local vibe isn't a put on, it's legit. Do yourself the favor and put your order in already. No Barneys. No Randos. Just the tip!

Not bad but honestly after reading the reviews and seeing all the sandwich pics, I'm a little underwhelmed. Maybe I had high expectations or high hopes to be knocked off my seat but the only thing I left away feeling was bummed and wallet empty, this place is in the pricey side. The sandwich lacked serious condiments. As the self proclaimed condiment queen it's very important to me to have condiments accompanying a sandwich. I needed some mustard and Mayo on my sandwich but barely had a splash of an herbed Mayo dressing. Don't get me wrong the meat packs a punch and the quality is on point, along with the bread! But man oh man I wanted to dip that sandwich into some much needed sauce. No one likes a dry sandwich.

My wife's favorite local sub shop! Somewhat of a strange layout... there seems to be a front and back entrance. Great service from staff and an excellent meatball sub!

Had the #13... Great sandwich! Cool place filled with Navy memorabilia. Had the meat cooking out back on a Traeger. Highly recommend if your looking for a great deli.

Yes ! I am so happy to be back in San Diego and to be blessed by the Sandwich Gods ! My mouth exploded with flavor and freshness of the custom turkey sandwich. The roll it came on is a lil crunchy on the outside which was amazing , but softness all the way in the inside , it's delicious . Grabbed some of the most delectable potatoe salad too , ( get you some ). It's been years since i've been here . I didnt recognize my spot , because it's been updated but All for the Good . Nice outdoor covered patio all shady with a chill water feature . Indoor seating area now too . Customer service was fantastical... Thanks Valerie for your skills and the amazing lunch you served me today. You are a superstar . This is my forever deli .

I started writing this 5 star review even before my food got here because of the vibe of this place. Walk in and immediately greeted with a smile and good energy from the workers! Large menu to choose from, I ended up going with one of their most popular hot sandwiches (#11 - just the tip) and it was fantastic. Good size sandwich and delicious! Lots of seating indoor and out. Dog bowl outside for your pups. Will definitely be back to try more!

Sooooo delicious! We ordered "Just the tip" subs and the tri-tip is delicious and the crispy jalapenos mixed in are perfection. It is a flavor party in your mouth. It's easy to order online and the service is super friendly! Highly recommend.

I've been coming here since Billy B took it over from Brown Bag. Loved, loved, loved when he changed it to Surfside Deli. Since he's turned it over to new ownership...not so great. Don't get the BLT #10. It was two pieces (or one layer of bacon) on the whole sandwich, a total of three tomato slices on the whole sandwich and minimal lettuce. It tasted like a grilled sandwich with bread being the main ingredient. I was about to steal my co-worker's Slighty Stoopid from him because the BLT was so terrible. Pretty disappointed.

Truly the best!! The best service and the sandwiches! The sandwiches are so good, the bread is fresh and the atmosphere is fitting. They also have a dog friendly patio so you can have lunch with your pup and enjoy the weather.

Best sandwiches ever. I've tried almost the whole menu and you can't go wrong. Look for what meat you like and go for it. The chips and soda are good too. Staff is also friendly with quick service. Parking is a little tricky at times. Especially during lunch.

This restaurant lives up to the many positive reviews already posted. We ordered via DoorDash. Our order was 100% correct and all of our subs were of an excellent quality and taste. We will definitely reorder as often as possible.

I got the number 12. It could be the best sandwich ever made. I don't want to tell you what it is. It would be like saying someone saying you have the best sandwich ever, but you have to go. Well, this is it. Don't go if you don't want to, but this sandwich was the best I have ever had. The people inside were cool and I think it was ready in under 10 minutes. Awesome place!

That traffic busting down Rosecrans is full retard fast and it's a challenge to back out of those spots unless you run and gun it backwards. Had a great lunch at this quirky little spot! There are two entrances here and the kitchen is nestled between the front lobby and dining area. The indoor dining area was a little dim for us so we enjoyed our sandwiches out on the outdoor patio. We ordered the #11 (Just the Tip) and #2 (USS Midway. I had the USS Midway and the meat was so tender! It paired well with the crunch of the toasted baguette. Pickles and banana peppers are given on the side to place in your sandwich as you wish. I didn't find the sandwich drowned in sauce or mayo, and the serving size was just right for me. It took about ten minutes for our sandwiches to be ready. They offer chips, bottled drinks, and some cold side options. Once you place your order at the front you're given a buzzer that alerts you when your food is ready. Service was okay, we had told her it was our first time and she didn't offer any suggestions on what to order or directions to where the dining area is. The front lobby is adjacent to the kitchen so I got a little confused trying to find the bathroom and the patio. I'd definitely stop by here again if I'm in the area and looking for a good sandwich. There's two lots for parking as well as street parking in the neighborhood nearby.

Just moved to the area and getting to know the local spots. I had a turkey sandwich, which was very fresh and tasty. The place is nothing fancy but it has a nice beachy vibe for a place on Rosecrans.

THIS is what a sandwich should be like. It was everything I wanted and hoped for. I got the USS Nimitz sandwich. Good amount of turkey, bread had a nice toast on the outside but still soft and it wasn't TOO MUCH bread which I like. Sometimes it's a hit or miss with delis, (for me) because it's so much bread and little turkey. This was the perfect proper portion and balance of everything. AND THEIR COOKIES ARE SOOO GOOD. FRESH BAKED. The chocolate chip peanut butter cup. Great friendly service. Definitely recommend. And I'll definitely be back!

I was torn between a 3 or a 4 star, but I'm giving it a 3 star. This sandwich shop is good, no doubt. It's tasty and a lot of variety sandwiches. Biggest criticism is that its pretty expensive and the size of the sandwiches are small. There are plenty of other deli's in SD that are better priced, and bigger sandwiches. Not sure why the sandwiches are expensive. They taste great, but they are small for the price they sell. 3/5 - Expensive sandwiches for how small the sandwiches are.

We stopped at surf side deli after a friend recommended it. It was a good as she said it was! We sat on the back patio to enjoy our sandwiches which were made quickly. Defiantly recommend

The health department needs to come here. My family and I ordered take out. We opened the potato salad to find a HAIR inside. Disgusting. We called. They offered a full refund. The owner calls, leaves us a message stating "sometimes this happens", he didn't seem to care, apparently hair is normal in their food at this establishment; I'm sorry, hair in food does not sometimes happen. Cleanliness should be your top priority always not just during covid. Hair in your food is unacceptable. Go to another place where they care about how your food is prepared. This place does not follow the health department code!!!
