Always in the Spring is when we'll normally try to find a way to staycation. Being fresh "out of", not quite though, pandemic - stay at home - new normal days... we weren't sure if we really wanted to brave the tourist hot spots. We also have a new fur-grandpup and I refused to be without my furbaes. There was a lot of anxiety thinking about doing this staycation, period. The commercials kept popping up. Surf Jack, any dog, any size. My guy took it as a sign (like he does with many things that he wants) and booked it.
I wasnt expecting much since it was a pet friendly hotel. I cant recall ever being in one before so I had no idea what to expect. Little did I know, it would be a nice getaway for all of us, pets included! Of course, no pets in the pool. But everywhere else we went, so did the furbaes go too! My pets are very clean and potty trained so I would hope the others are as well.
Theres no carpet in the rooms, makes for easier clean up, I'm sure. The hotel overall was pretty clean. There weren't any areas of the hotel that made me think it was dirty, esp for being filled with dogs! That was a very pleasant surprise. No smell in the rooms or anywhere. No fur or messes either. It also wasnt as noisy as I thought it'd be. You could hear dogs here and there but nothing excessive or annoying. The walls were pretty thin and our room had a door that probably could join the next room. So, we could kind of hear each others conversations lol. Towels, ice bucket, mini fridge, TV, drawers/closet, alarm clock, AC, ceiling fan, hair dryer, balcony and I think a clothes steamer. All nice things to include in the rooms.
Ground level is nice. Front desk, coffee shop, pool, lounge, bar/restaurant, bathrooms, ice machine. We had such a nice relaxing time at the pool and lounging nearby. The pool was CLEAN. It looked clean, and I saw the cleaning take place one morning lol. While sitting at the tables, workers came by to wipe down a couple of times. That was reassuring.
I ordered from the bar/restaurant while chilling in the pool. We also had dinner there one night. Good stuff, I recommend. Thursdays till 9pm Kelly boy is playing live. Cant remember what I was doing but I had to stop, find a seat and just listen. Now that was very nostalgic!
Parking in Waikiki is always gonna be tough. It's either pay out the wazoo, fight on the Ala Wai, or pay on street per 2 hrs. We got a key card for hotel parking but it's about 2 blocks away at Centric/Nordstrom Rack. We dropped our things at the front and pretty much walked every chance we could.
Every staff we encountered were awesome. Friendly and accommodating. They offered to help with baggage. Always greeted when we passed. If I'm not mistaken, I think they can walk your dog for you too. There's poop bags at the front. Water dispenser and sunscreen by the pool. Even hand sanitizer stations. The room shower was stocked with full sized pumps of shampoo, conditioner and body wash. I mean, I dont think I couldve asked for more.
What started out filling me with anxiety, turned into very precious moments with my lil ohana. I am so glad we had this beautiful experience at the Surf Jack. We're all refreshed (safely! ).
