Surfwiches Steaks Hoagies & More

Since moving to Florida a couple years ago, I’ve been looking for a solid sub sandwich shop. Not the places where they use the same bread for their Cuban sandwiches as they do their “subs”, but a legit sub sandwich. I have found the place. The hoagie roll is delicious and soft, ingredients are fresh, and the meat is piled up. Don’t mess around with Jimmy John’s anymore. It’s time to enjoy eating a sandwich again. Go to Surfwiches.

Be sure to come into this joint HUNGRY this place ain't afraid to pack on the meat! You most definitely feel like you get what you paid for when your meal is presented. So glad that word of mouth highlighted this establishment. Thanks for making this a WAVE of out of the norm sandwich shop. I look forward to trying everything on the menu in the future!

Surfwiches understood the assignment! My cheesesteak with provolone, mustard, garlic mayo, ranch, and onions was so good I barely got the picture. Get the vanilla milkshake! Thick, creamy, and made me question why I ever settle for less. 10/10, I’ll be back!

We were looking for a good sub shop in Beaches and thank goodness we found one. The Italian hoagie was $16 which seemed expensive but holy cow! The amount of meat on this thing! Two of us could only eat a little more than half. Well worth the money. A customer recommended the cheesesteak, saying it's the best he's ever had. We're ooking forward to trying that next. Update: We tried it and it was delicious!

I've never seen a hoagie with as much meat as Surfwiches, and not low-quality meats! Great value and super tasty with an array of peppers you can add to your sandwhich. They also have shooters (marinated cherry peppers stuffed with meat and cheese). They are a must try if you've never had them.

Visiting from NY and wanted to try something similar to Subway LOL I know! Found this place and the hoagies looks awesome. I tried several times to order through Clover but it was not working. When we entered the place, there wasn't anyone over the counter. Ambiance was definitely not something I was expecting. We ordered through their touchscreen menu. Looks like most of the orders here are online orders and we were the only ones in there. There was an older man towards the end of our order. Super nice gentleman! We got 2 hoagies, 1 sundae, and 1 shake. Delicious sandwiches but would recommend ordering online if you can. The hoagies are HUGE!!! But so good.

I’m from the Philadelphia, PA area and have tried to find some good hoagies & cheesesteaks in jax FOR YEARS. I tried surf-which on a whim and thank god I did. Hands down the best cheesesteak & hoagie I’ve ever had. The hoagies are MASSIVE & make perfect leftovers. 10/10. Skip all the other places that claim to have good “Philadelphia cheesesteaks” & come here instead.

There's just something about a sandwich on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Hubby had been talking up Surfwiches for a while after he tried their cheesesteak last year. We recently planned a little afternoon lunch date and headed over to Jax Beach. We arrived, placed our order on the kiosk and grabbed a couple seats at the counter. A short while later our sandwiches were ready! He ordered the cheesesteak again. I ordered the Italian hoagie. Both were amazing! The cheesesteak was loaded with sliced ribeye steak, melty white American cheese, grilled onions, sweet peppers and cherry peppers. The bread was soft and tasty. Hands down one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. The Italian was fantastic! Quality sliced Italian meats, provolone cheese, fresh veggies, oil, vinegar and mayo. Absolutely delicious! For a cold Italian, it was top notch. The service was great as well! I would highly recommend giving them a try!

I was in Jacksonville yesterday and had to stop by Surfwiches. I had heard great reviews of the spot and it was definitely a solid spot. I walked in and had the place to myself around 3:30 pm. The guy at the counter pointed to the kiosk and went ahead and ordered my food. I went with the Italian, add long hots and garlic peppercorn mayo. I also ordered a cheese steak with cherry peppers, garlic pepper corn mayo, and cooper sharp cheese. I grabbed a seat and my food came up quickly. Both sandwiches looked great. I started with the Italian. It was a really well balanced sandwich. The flavor waa incredible. It was super fresh and sliced to order. Absolutely perfect. I then moved into the cheesesteak. It had steamed a bit in the wrapper and softened the bread just the way I like it. The combo of the mayo, cherry pepper, and cooper sharp was perfect. Bread was nice and soft, not super crusty like some. I enjoyed every bite. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit to Surfwiches. They make a great hoagie and cheese steak. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great sandwich.

Mom and Pop shop in Jacksonville Beach. This place looks pretty unassuming on the outside in relation to the high reviews but don't be fooled...the sandwiches are pretty darn good. I came specifically for the cheesesteak sandwich and it was delicious. I will say if you're looking for recommendations on how to dress your sandwich you'll need to look at the Yelp comments for some guidance. The cashier didn't really give me a lot of help there. I got my sandwich to go but there are some seats (4 booths) inside if you want to sit and eat. I give the place 3 stars for overall service/ atmosphere and 5 stars for the actual food. Cheers!

Since my first visit several years ago, Surfwich just continues to continue on with great subs. Constantly consistent. I never had a bad sandwich here. My wife loves their Chicken Cheese Philly with those hot cherry peppers; not too hot, just right. I love their cheese steak with the works. This is just a place that makes wonderful sandwiches. the owner9s) are there every day to see to it that you are happy.

Man. I have been sleeping on Surfwiches for entirely too long. Hidden off of Penman near the beaches you'll find this glorious sub shop. Their Italian is the hoagie of dreams. Sliced to order too! Their cheesesteak may be the best in Jacksonville. Proper with white American and the bread you ask? The bread makes these sandwiches to die for. If you're in the area, or if you're looking for some fire sandwiches, check them out! Please!

Popped in here for a solid 4th of July base before festivities. Had always heard it was good, but outside of my normal path. I must say, it's worth the trip. The sandwiches are made to order and absolutely delicious. We got a Philly and Italian to split. Both of these were flavorful and massive. Will definitely be back again!

O.M.G. my mouth is watering just thinking about it. A Jacksonville native and sad to say this was my first time here. The garlic mayo is a drool worthy addition. It feels like a true local family business when going in. Can't wait to go back!

Good cheesesteak sandwich's! Staff was busy but friendly. They have a few booths to eat at, but it is mainly a take out place.

Walked in for lunch and was not greeted (or even acknowledged). After a few minutes, I realized that you are supposed to order at the electronic kiosk (which is not placed in a very obvious location). Then waited nearly 45 minutes for a to-go Philly. As I asked for a refund so I can leave, they answered a phone call. As I was waiting for the call to be finished to get my refund receipt to walk out, my Philly was done. It was handed to me without a word of apology from any of the 3 people behind the counter. It seems nobody enjoys working there. Very subpar customer service. Definitely will not be returning...

Being this far removed from the northeast, I would have said you're lying if you told me I could get a legitimate honest to God hoagie. Let me tell you, this is it. From the quality of the roll and it's hinge, to the pride put into the composition of the ingredients, I'm seriously blown away. Get an Italian, add some peppers if that's your thing, and grab a cold one because you are in for a delicacy. Had the pleasure of talking with one of the owners while they made my hoagie, and they are proud to serve their craft. Great people.

Yum!!! One of the best Philly cheesesteak sandwiches I've ever had! Can't wait to try more of the menu! We ordered through Uber eats due to it being Saint Patrick's day and we didn't want to deal with crowds. My husband insisted on having a Reuben to feel "Irish" or whatever. He loved the Reuben here! I loved the Philly. What a great little sandwich shop!

It's one of the best sandwich shops in Jacksonville. Everything always taste great, and they're big sandwiches for a fair price. My personal favorite is the blt sub, which they load up with bacon. My only complaint ever was the bacon not being cooked enough so I put in the doordash notes one day for it to be well done and they listened and have always listened when I order through doordash, I commend yall, not a lot of places listen to those notes.

Oh em gee. I was in such a hurry to eat it that I forgot to take a picture!! I hit the Italian and it had a ton of meat!! Bye bye Jersey mikes.. do yourself a favor and check this place out!! Amazing grinders. Can't wait to go back!!

I just had their Corn beef special. It was so fresh and flavorful! The beef was ample, just right. The staff was great. Great food. Decent price. No fuss or compliction.

I have been wanting to come to Surfwiches since they opened but they are beachside and we never make it over in that direction anymore. Finally though we were heading beachside and I suggested we get Surfwich for lunch. My wife decided to look at Yelp to see what to get and saw a review the owner left. After reading that we were sold and on our way. Once arrived we were able to quickly order. I knew I was getting the Cheesesteak from the start but we knew we needed a cold hoagie since it's so hot out right now. We ended up ordering the Italian Hoagie with Sweet Peppers after that's what was suggested. Our food came up within about 10 minutes and we were so excited. Once home we dug into our Hoagies and WOW everything was completely amazing. The Cheesesteak had the perfect amount of steak to cheese ratio (it comes with White American). The onions added just the right amount of crunch to it as well. The bread was also perfectly soft. This is the best cheesesteak I have had in Jacksonville and this in coming from a guy who normally prefers Wiz on his Cheesesteak. Now on to the Italian. I have never had an Italian in my top for sandwiches/hoagies but it's clear to me that was because I haven't been getting them from Surfwich. This hoagie was a game changer for me. It's loaded with meat featuring Genoa Salami, Spicy Capicola, Baked Ham, and covered with Prosciutto ham. The Sweet Peppers also added amazing flavor and pulled the whole sandwich together. Easily the best Italian I have ever had. I will say the bread they use is also a game changer. You can't have a great hoagie without great bread. I have thought about both the Cheesesteak and the Italian multiple times since I was there so looks like I will have to start going beachside more often.

After reading what maybe the best response of any business owner to a review my husband and I had to come check this place out! I might would walk right by this place if I didn't know it was here, it's a decent sized restaurant but from the outside it looks unassuming. When we walked in we were greeted with a hello and thanks to another review we knew there was a menu behind us so we turned around to check it out. The menu was updated with everything they had and the cashier was very helpful and willing to make suggestions when we weren't sure. We are not on this side of town often so we decided to get a few different sandwiches to try. They also have a good chip selection so we picked up a bag of Old Bay Chips and a bag of Jalapeño Popper Chips. We ordered the Rachel, a Cheesesteak, an Italian Hoagie and a Cuban. Absolutely everything we ate was AMAZING! The Rachel was perfect, it had good flavor and a nice crunch. I would not recommend traveling far with the Rachel as it is packed with goodness and the bread could get a bit soggy if you wait to long to eat it but honestly don't wait it's too good. The Philly was very good, might even be the best I have had in Florida. However the ABSOLUTE BEST THING we ordered was the Italian Hoagie!!! It was incredible and each bite was better than the last. We got the sweet peppers based to the cashiers recommendation and I think that was the right call as it added to the overall flavor of the hoagie without over powering it. All in all we are already planning a trip back because we haven't stopped thinking about that Italian!

Stopped by this place for a quick bite between running errands, and I'll definitely be coming back. The cook (I'm assuming also the owner?) was so friendly and helpful. I thought it was a little overpriced until I got a huge sandwich which was delicious. Please don't miss out on this hidden gem.

Definitely add Surfwiches to your sandwich restaurant go-to's. The Cheesesteak was huge! Fried onions, grilled mushrooms, long hots, and garlic mayo were an excellent combo. Not sure I would get the mayo next time. I think it made the sandwich a little too lubricated. Ordering was a little difficult on the web. My order timed out on my phone so I had to order again verbally in person. Next time I will try the Clover app which is their point of sale system where you can earn loyalty points for $ off in the future. The kitchen is right there in the open so you can see al the care that goes into making a fine sandwich. The bread was high quality. So was the beef. I will try the chicken in the future. The sandwiches to go are nicely wrapped in paper. Nice sustainability touch. Traffic on penman can be nuts. Be careful coming in and out of the parking lot. Near the top of my list for cheesesteaks in Jax.

I just don't understand anyone who would not go here. I've lived most of my life here and this place is #1. Yes there is Angie's, DL&P and Lone Wolf, but if you really want something to satisfy you, fill you up, incredibly good then order/go to Surfwiches. Small, great sub place. Yes I and my family have eaten at Angie's many times but Surfwiches is a step up. Please go try. This is not a sponsored text or family member or anything like that. I took my 10 year old son to Surfwiches when they first opened as he wanted a BLT. He raved and raved.. I took the best man in my wedding, who said "this is the best turkey Rueben I've even eaten. So, I don't usually post things like this but this place is a gem and 200% worth visiting.

Im going to start this off by saying... Jersey mikes is better and they also slice the meat in front of you, so whippety doooooo. I'm from out of town and like trying new places I've never been before. I see this place on yelp and figured I'd give it a try. Well I'm sad I didn't just get jersey mikes. When my food was ready, there was what looked like a Uber eats guy picking up a order. Well he ended up putting 2 of my 3 sandwiches in his bag (that set my wait back another 10 minutes). Yes, he should know better, but there was a worker standing right in front of him while he was bagging all the food. When the worker found out the Uber eats guy took my food, he literally started throwing stuff and mumbling what I imagined were cuss words. If I lived here, I wouldn't go there again and it wasn't because the angry worker lol. It was because the subs were MAYBE a 5/10. I'd just go to Jersey mikes or another sub place. Heck, I'd even go to subway. Oh yeah... We got the Italian, the steak sandwich and the burger. The Italian was the best of the 3 but I wouldn't go telling people about it.

We're always looking for something new to try around the Jax Beach area on Friday nights. Based on the reviews, we thought we'd give this place a shot. I went with something easy for my first visit: chicken cheese steak. Chicken cheese steak is a hard thing to mess up, but I've seen it happen. So that's usually my starter at sandwich shops. I'm happy to report that the other Yelp reviews were right. I loved my sandwich! While we were eating, we both said "We need to come back here to try other things", which is not something we say a lot because we're always exploring. This is a placed I honestly would've passed by on the street because I probably wouldn't have noticed it, so I'm glad Yelp helped direct us there.

Beat the crowd to great old school sandwich shop. Have been hearing about it for months and I can tell you they do not disappoint, food quality, price and service. Doesn't get any better. Some of pretentious upmarket places could take a lesson from this great sandwich shop. I dove for 44 minutes from the west side to the beach just for one of the Best Italian hoagies I have every had. My colleague who is old school Philly, thought that the cheesesteak was one of the best he has had here in Jacksonsville. I can't wait to go back.

Service, if you can call it that, is way below par. Owner was rude, especially being a first time customer. Menus are not updated and you can only order on the kiosk... heaven forbid you speak to any of the employees behind the counter. After a response from the owner, doesn't change a thing. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. Every business is going through shortages and lack of help. Had this been articulated in a more professional manner, we would have given this business the opportunity to serve. However, we were made to feel as we were a nuisance to the owner and that customers walking in were not welcome. Not a problem. Another restaurant was able to fulfill our needs. Congrats on not needing new patronage and good luck. Apologies are not needed as you don't think you are doing a disservice in the way you treat potential customers. Keep doing what you're doing!

I went to Surfwiches based on the recommendation of a friend as we were discussing the best burgers in town. It was a Saturday afternoon and the place was reasonably filled despite the after lunch hour. When I entered the small space, I couldn't quite figure out whether I should approach the counter to order as no one acknowledged my presence. So I was just standing there trying to catch the eye of the lady at the cash register who seemed very preoccupied. When I stepped up, she asked me for my name and then I proceeded to place a simple order - cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and bacon. I asked for ketchup and mustard on the side. She then asked again for my name. I inquired about the approximate time that it would be ready and she estimated 5 minutes so I went to my car to wait. I returned 10 minutes later and my order was ready. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and when I got to my car to check the food, I had a plain cheeseburger. I went back inside. The cashier told me I hadn't paid for bacon but a guy, who appeared to be the owner, said it was no problem and they would add it. Then of course the cashier looked back at the receipt and realized that she had indeed charged me for bacon. First problem solved. When I'd ordered, I had asked for ketchup and mustard on the side and instead, I received containers of ketchup and mayonnaise, which I don't put on my burgers. I didn't bother to return about that. I just used the ketchup. When I got ready to eat the burger, it looked really good. The beef patties were very thin but there was definitely enough substance there to fill me up. After taking a bite, I realized that the burger was very messy and the bottom bun was so soggy that parts were nearly disintegrating and some of it was inedible. It may have helped to have put the moist lettuce, tomato, and pickle on top of the burger instead of at the bottom where all the juices and grease were pooling. Or, a thicker bottom bun could work. With that said, the good things about this place are that they have Herr's chips (no fries), which are hard to find around here but becoming easier with Wawa's arrival, and a free gelato with the yelp check-in. They also seem to have good business so perhaps my visit was atypical or perhaps the burger isn't the thing to get but rather a cheesesteak or hoagie.

The husband and I were craving some Philly cheesesteaks. We ordered online and picked up. The food definitely satisfied the craving. They were phenomenal. Will visit again.

This little place makes a killer sandwich. Was the first one in the door the other day and I could see them freshly chopping the beef for the fresh hot cheesesteaks. Definitely will be back.

Highly recommend! The prices reflect the amount of food so be ready to eat a lot or share! The service is always fast and friendly and if you give your info watch out for discounts! The ambiance is great for a quick lunch but we usually grab and go! Love all Surfwiches, especially the ratatouille!

Best subs for freshness, size and variety. The roast beef with horseradish sauce is my favorite! Get it with a side of sweet peppers!

It's only ratatouille if it's from the Nice area of France! Otherwise, it's just sparkling byaldi! Sorry Restaurants seem a lot more willing to call anything ratatouille since the movie, but if it increases my chances of getting stewed veggies as well, that's fantastic. I get so tired of salad in this country. The chicken cheese steak and ratatouille is delicious. All the cheesesteaks are delicious..........but I still prefer the ones from Sub Cultured. These hoagies are super filling. Jersey Mike's subs pull a Jedi mind trick by making subs that look large, but have less mass due to the fluffy bread and extremely thin slices of meat. In contrast, each bite here is like an entire meal. Actually, I want to say that hoagies here have too much meat for me. By that, I don't mean the overall portion, but the ratio of meat to veggie and bread. I'm sure many would disagree; that's my bias. One more thing. Recently, there have been a few negative reviews complaining that the employees here aren't wearing masks. Normally, I give little credit to reviews that don't mention the food, and that's sorta true here as well, but it's also true that the employees I saw were NOT wearing masks. So if that's a dealbreaker, avoid this place like the plague.......heh. Sorry I would prefer that they wear masks, but I'm not gonna give them one star either. My four stars is purely an evaluation of the food.

Fantastic cheeseburgers. The best at the beach. Can't wait to try their hoagies. This will be a regular now on our takeout circuit.

My hubby and his team at MarineMax get these sandwiches all the time, but yesterday was my first visit. Why oh why did I wait so long? These sandwiches are delicious! And the biggest sub I have ever seen. I could not even eat half of the half. Huge! I had the three cheese veggie sub and it truly was one of the best veggie subs I have ever had. Hubby had the patty melt on rye and thought it was a little greasy but, he really enjoyed it. He usually gets a cheesesteak or he also loves their bacon sub. The bread on the veggie sub was perfect. Soft on the inside with a little crust outside. Small place with limited seating, as I think most of the orders are takeout. Subs, burgers, hotdogs, chips, and cold drinks. Check them out when you are craving a good sub. I will be back!

Growing up near Philly and living there I think these are the best in Jax I've had. Great hoagies too.

So glad I got to stop and get an Italian sub to go! The team was working their butts off and I am truly grateful for this deliciousness!! The sub was HUGE but the flavors were even bigger!! I love finding a good Italian sub in the south!!

I can't believe it took me this long to find this place. The garlic pepper Mayo is amazing. I got the Italian just meat cheese and Mayo and it was delicious! My dad got the cheese steak and it looked so good!

Surfwiches Italian hoagie is the best one I've had since leaving Philadelphia . It's large , stuffed to the gills with ham , cap , salamis and provolone . Joe Bob says two thumbs up

Small little place close to the beach killing the hoagie game. Had an Italian Hoagie with a side of long hots. Recommended by a friend and they did not disappoint. Will return when back to Jacksonville.

Wow so delicious! This was my first time there and I'll definitely be back. My sandwich was so delicious that I don't know if I'll ever be able to order anything else there . The girl at the register was very helpful and friendly. I got the cheesesteak and added (for free) the housemade garlic pepper mayo, grilled onions and bell peppers with hot cherry peppers on the side. Oh.My.Gawd. So good. They get their bread next door from cinotti's so you KNOW it's good. Hands down the best sub I've had in a long time.

I could care less what the parking lot or interior of the place looks like. It reminded me of a hole in the wall shop... I only care about how the food is. I had a cheeseburger..... bruh... delicious. I was worried a $9 cheeseburger would let me down.. it didn't. I'll be ordering this again.

I would have given them No stars if that choice was available. drove way out of my way to go here. 3 men cooking/making food. was never even offered a menu as I wanted to order take out. I walked out after standing there for 15 minutes. will NEVER go there again. the absolute WORST customer NO service!!!

Best Italian hoagie anywhere hands down! Meat is fresh sliced and abundantly applied to a really good roll. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had.

Went to Jax Beach to play some golf with my buddy this afternoon. When we finished our session, we were pretty hungry, and needed to find a place for lunch. We agreed that we were in search of sandwiches, and after viewing our options in town, we decided to go to Surfwhiches! Going in, there was a decent amount of seating inside and not a long wait. We were initially gonna do the Italian sub, but after smelling the scent of browning and sizzling hot steak, we knew we needed to get ourselves that cheesesteak. We ordered it on white with peppercorn mayo, onions, sweet, and hot cherry peppers. Moving on with my review, the cheesesteak sandwhich was really good! The bread for starters had tasted fresh, and had a new crisp/chew. To include, I asked for a little extra spread, but found the sandwhich was very moist inside. In addition, the condiments had been very fresh and tasty. furthermore, the steak had been extremely tender, great seasoning, and nicely melted cheese to finish the top. Overall, next time I'm in Jax Beach, I'd be totally down to try some of the other sandwiches on the menu!

BEST PHILLY CHEESESTEAK I've ever had. Really don't need to say more than that but I will. I always order the same thing (see above) topped with sweet and hot peppers, grilled onions, and the garlic peppercorn mayo. Seriously couldn't ask for anything better. You may ask, Why did I give them 4 stars? Well they have a tiny venue, although plenty of seats. It tends to be hot inside Im thinking due to the oven heating up the small building. Of note they are always busy. This particular trip I called in the order but was placed on hold for 5 mins. I ended up hanging up and calling back and got to place my order tight away. I will come back time and time again. So delicious. So amazing. And huge portions- well worth your money.

Wow! Tried my first meal from here last week and it was hands down the best cheese steak sandwich I've had! Delicious crusty bread, perfectly grilled steak, onions, and mushrooms all covered in cheese. They had our to go order ready quickly and the sandwich was large enough for us to split. Will be back here again soon.
