Why Restaurants Felt More Political in 2018 | Eater

"A tavern outside Washington, D.C., historically known for serving a largely Confederate clientele and remembered because its owner was implicated in concealing ammunition and other supplies used by John Wilkes Booth and his co-conspirators in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln." - Vince Dixon

Incredible & great work addressing slavery where others shy away, need to know that part of history too! Great dioramas including one of Ford's Theatre, which surprised me. Not pictured because I forgot

Fantastic tour. $5 for adults. A very interesting place with so much to learn. You will know things none of your friends know.

I didn't know what to expect from this museum, but I was not disappointed. Because of a road closure, there was a detour to get to it, but it was well worth it. An ex-teacher, our guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and, I think, told history the way it was, not the way we wanted it to be. Even when some history passed down may have been based on fact, fiction, or hearsay, she was willing to listen. Recommend that you take a couple hours out of your day to visit.

Matt was an excellent tour guide! He had lots of interesting stories and insights that made our visit very interesting and memorable. I would definitely recommend a visit to this hidden gem!

A tiny museum, but worth the stop if you're in the area. Open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., tours are offered of the historic house and tavern every half hour. If it's closed when you arrive, park in the lot and read the plaques around the garden. You'll learn about its dark history and the house owner's involvement in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Very interesting historical site in an unexpected area.Iit's claim to fame is its association with the assassination of Lincoln. The owner was the first woman sentenced to death in the USA. The park is interesting for those that like older buildings because much of the original tavern and home is original.

I visited the Mary Surratt House in February 2024. The historians did a fantastic job of piecing together the everyday lives and challenges of slaves and former slaves in the 1800s while weaving in the site's connection to the conspirators in Lincoln's assassination. Logan demonstrated a vast knowledge of the period and answered all our questions patiently. Highly recommend a visit.

We visited the Surratt House today and you were most kind to allow our entry with our service dog. Thank you. The tour with its highly detailed presentation, including historic female-centric historical themes and discussions, was one of the best ever historic tours we have attended. It felt personalized and it was! We enjoyed the fabulous knowledge sharing of the events and materials associated with Marry Surratt's house and inn. Thank you so much ! We encourage everyone to visit. Brian & Chin Kenny
