Malia at Surreal Beauty did an AMAZING job on my hair and makeup for my wedding. I am not very knowledgeable about hair and makeup so I didn't give a lot of guidance, but she translated my vague thoughts so well. Everything turned out even better than I expected. She even helped me pick out decorative hair pins that went perfectly with my hair and dress! My hair and makeup held up all night (after MUCH dancing), and I felt beautiful and confident. Plus they made the process so fun. Getting my hair and makeup done with my mom is definitely one of my favorite memories of the day. I am going to start getting regular haircuts here too. Was in town for a wedding and decided last minute I wanted to book an appt for an updo and lash application. They got me right in the day of the wedding and made me look fabulous. Alyssa was so sweet and friendly! She applied my lashes PERFECTLY and my hair looked amazing - stayed all night!! Will definitely revisit next time we are in town for a visit.

Malia and her team did our makeup/hair styles for my wedding and did amazing!! My bridal makeup lasted all throughout the night and even until the next morning 💕😂 they are very professional and amazing!!!

I called up yesterday morning looking for a blow out and was able to see Malia-- same day! Malia was wonderful; professional, skilled and quick. She listened and understood what I wanted. I ended up getting a cut, partial foil AND the blow out I had scheduled and all in my budget! I came in feeling flat and stringy and left feeling beautiful! Thanks Surreal!

I want to begin this with stating that I went through a traumatic hair experience at another salon and I felt helpless on how to get help and fix the unfortunate situation. Surreal welcomed me with open arms despite the challenging work and time it would take to fix the damage that had been done. Everyone in this salon was 100% professional, kind and knowledgeable on just exactly what to do to get me where I needed to with my hair to feel confident again and comfortable in my skin. Jeana and Zeke are amazing stylists and did a complete transformation from my hair to go from worst to unbelievably healthy with the products they used and a beautiful blended balayage. When I felt I couldn't trust anyone with my hair this salon and stylists completely changed my view. I would recommend to anyone in nashville needing a stylist and the vibe in the salon is very calm & warm. I'm too embarrassed to post my before photos but my hair was over processed at another salon and colored a very awful gold/ orange color and my haircut wasn't even and my roots weren't blended into the rest of my hair what so ever. Thank You surreal for this makeover They also offer amazing hair products by Aveda with a regimen for much healthier hair and those products are life changing!

I saw the stylist, Megan, at Surreal Salon on 4/22/21. Not only did I pay over $300 (with the tip) for highlights that barely changed my hair color at all, I was treated badly and was condescended to by Surreal's owner, Melanie, when I spoke with her about what they could do to fix the situation. She said all she was willing to do was "pop in a few extra foils", but any other services would be at my expense, and refused even a partial refund. When repeatedly spoken to like my budget of over $275 was not enough, I said to the owner that amount of money in my opinion was not small for highlights, and she said to me, I quote, "This is Nashville, honey." Avoid this place.

We took a team trip to Nashville and booked blowouts for everyone here. We loved these ladies so much that half of us came back a second time on our same trip! The other half.... Well let's just say they had too much for the night before and couldn't get out of bed. Thank you ladies for being amazing!! My stylist was Kristen and she did the cutest braids on me too!!! Thanks again, we will def book again on our next trip to Nashville

I had an amazing experience with Malia at Surreal Blow Out Bar! I messaged her on Sunday if she had an availability on Tuesday and she was able to squeeze me in! She did an absolutely amazing job on my color, I got a partial balayage and base color! I left feeling beautiful! I have naturally curly hair and often times people leave me with frizzy hair and I leave dejected and in a ponytail but Malia made sure I left with beautiful curls, I highly recommend this place and Malia!

The owner and the stylists are very rude, racists, and unprofessional! My daughter is African American and was told that it took too long for her hair to be done. The owner hung up on me several times and used profanity when I voiced my concerns. They will surely have the day they deserve. I guess this is the perfect place to go if you're white. This is a horrible, racist place! Do not visit here! They are terrible. The owner was rude and was using profanity to me. She is extremely unprofessional! We will NEVER go here for service! They don't do black girls' hair. When I called to schedule an appointment for my daughter to simply have a wash, trim, and blowout, I was told that they could do it. My daughter told me that two people had to work on her hair. I called to speak to the owner, and she called me a "cheap a** b****" because I didn't tip the stylists. She proceeded to tell me that they had to detangle my daughter's hair, and it took five stylists to work on her hair for three hours. So, I was charged according to their level of experience with black hair. I will never subject my daughter to this place again and never want her to feel bad about her "black girl hair."

Gunnar is WONDERFUL. Not only did he find my elusive natural color and bring it back for me, he gives me great cuts and lots of laughs. Highly recommend him and this salon!

In town for a wedding and what a find this salon was Five of us got our hair and makeup done and we couldn't of been happier !! Friendly Talented fun staff ,super cute salon . Wish I could remember everyone's name but we are all happy and used 4 different stylist they are all talented !!

Got a last minute blowout for a family wedding in Nashville and GIRL WAS I IMPRESSED by the stylists here. My stylist I believe was heather- she's relatively new to Nashville, moved from Iowa and was just a hair WHIZ. She took my thick , long , frizzy hair and turned it into magic within 1 hour. I usually have people working on my hair for 1.5-2 hours and she was fast , efficient, kind, funny, and reallyyyy good at her job. My mother in law came with me and got a blowout as well and she echoes my sentiments - really loved her hair styling and we both will 100% be coming back here next time we visit. Did I mention someone walked around to give us cupcakes?!

Honestly have no idea how this places calls itself a blow out bar. I've been to several blow out bars with great results. Typically my curls hold, 3 even 4 days, until I wash my hair. I'm in town for a special event and Surreal was the only salon with availability, my sisters and I assumed it would be fine. Just three hours later and all the curls and volume that we left with have fallen. The entire process was very rough (she kept pulling my hair with the brush). And, there is so much product that it's crunchy :( We are all super disappointed and want to save others from wasting $40 (pre tip). This may be a good salon? But I highly recommend checking out a real blow out bar instead of this place!!

I was in from out of town and needed a blowout for a wedding. Had the best experience at Surreal. Heather did an amazing job. She took her time, gave me a nice scalp massage as we discussed what i needed done, and gave the best blowout (which lasted through a very rainy outdoor reception). Highly recommend!

First, I never write reviews. While I find them super helpful, I am usually not that impressed and don't want to recommend things I wouldn't do again/all the time. But OMG - LOVE this place. I was in Nashville for an upscale wedding and wanted to do something cute with my hair (which I cannot accomplish on my own). I found this place through reviews on Yelp and they were able to squeeze me in on very short notice. The salon is super modern, luxurious, and clean. Fox did my wash, dry, and style. I literally cannot find enough good things to say about her! She was super knowledgeable, asked questions to make sure she understood my hair, and made suggestions. After realizing she clearly knew what she was doing, I told her I would like a curled look that would hold (because my hair never holds a curl) and let her be creative! I LOVED my style. It was wavy and full of volume. I think it's probably the best my hair has ever looked! I was also super happy that Fox was able to use products that didn't make my hair heavy or sticky, since I am constantly touching my hair. My hair has never, and I do mean never (even when done at salons) held a curl or wave more than a few hours. I am ecstatic to report that my waves held for 3 full days and may have lasted longer if I didn't put my hair up on the plane. Next time I am in Nashville, I'm going to see Fox first so I don't have to worry about my hair at all while I'm there! Go see Fox - you will not be disappointed!!

Fox did a great job. I had my hair blown out for a weddings. She's super fun and I just let her be creative. I'm very happy with the results.

I have been a client of Melanie's for over 5 years now and I just absolutely love her! Melanie cares about her clients and always tries to meet and exceed their expectations. It's a team effort trying to achieve your hair care goals and Melanie is always honest and upfront about the reality of what you should expect, when you have a goal in mind of what you are wanting to achieve with your hair. Melanie cares about her clients and always has a great team of stylists on staff. I watch how they always work so well together to help each other out when needed. Very clean, professional environment, classy establishment and easy to get to in East Nashville, just off Main Street. Melanie has been highlighting, low lighting, cutting and flossing my hair for over 15 years.

Had a blast here getting blowouts + lashes applied on our recent girls trip to Nashville!

Unfortunately, this business only seems to value their long-term clients, and they treat new customers as a nuisance. They also become extremely rude and combative if you have concerns about the service provided. They definitely do a decent blowout, but I honestly wouldn't trust them with anything beyond that. It's a good thing there are plenty of other places in Nashville that offer great color and cut services.

Surreal Blow Out Bar I love going to blow out bars, so when we were brainstorming things to do for my childhood best friends bachelorette party, of course, I suggested it for our Saturday morning activity! I went on Yelp to find a blow out bar close to where we were staying, and came across Surreal *Blow Out* Bar. They had good reviews, so I made appointments. The front desk was very helpful in booking my 8 appointments, 5 @ 10:00am and 3 @ 11:00 when I called about two and a half weeks before the big weekend. About a week before hand, I cancelled two of the appointments because some of the girls didn't want to do it, and the morning of, I had to cancel one more (one of our girls couldn't rally up after the long night out), they were very kind and understanding. We showed up for our appointments about 9:55, and two of the girls were taken back almost immediately. The rest of us waited. This is a small salon so there isn't a lot of waiting room and there were a couple of families with kids, so there weren't a lot of places for us to wait. The third person in our party was started at 10:30, which wasn't a huge deal because some of us were going to have to wait for our 11:00 appointments anyways. The last two blowouts didn't get started until 11:10 and 11:20. I think there was a little confusion with who was booked with who. At the end of the morning, we all got beautiful blowouts! The last thing I want to note is this is a full service salon (offering cuts and color) with certain stylists that just do bow outs. They also carry Davines for their back bar and retail line!

I showed up five minutes early to a locked door, when the staff noticed me I was let in and then ignored for ten minutes. There was a DOG in the shampoo bowl.... It was then not sanitized. The employees had a negative attitude and talked down on their own abilities as stylists, seemed insecure of their work and I should've just walked out then and there. The owner was rude and condescending towards her employees, I would never return SPECIFICALLY because of her. Unsatisfactory service, I left unhappy and didn't want to complain in fear of my stylist doing further damage to my hair. What a joke. I'm so unhappy.

I love, love, love Surreal! Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and uber talented. I always leave with beautiful hair and a smile on my face.

Funny how you comment back an entire month later. Actually I would have been less than 15 minutes late but couldn't do a dry style because my hair required to be washed. A whole month later and I finally get a response. You must have a "good memory" but your story is incorrect. How embarrassing it is as you rudely try and defend yourself. 0/10 do not recommend. They can't even talk to people with respect.

Perfect blow out by Fox! She asked questions, and did exactly what I wanted in regards to style and product use. It lasted 4 days!!

I have never written a bad review before. People I know have told me about their bad experiences at this salon but I wanted to give the salon the benefit of the doubt. However, I was met with unprofessionalism and rudeness and quite frankly it was a waste of money. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Such a fun and beautiful environment to get ready for a special evening out! I was in Nashville for a wedding and making an appt fast, the location was easy to find, and I liked the texting reminders! I saw Fox for a blowout and makeup, and she did an awesome job! Loved chatting with her! It all started with a shampoo and scalp massage which I really enjoyed...Fox really took her time with both the hair and makeup and didn't make me feel rushed at all! My blowout lasted for 2 days, my makeup (including lip color) stayed perfect all evening!! Even in the rain and humidity!! Would definitely recommend for anyone living in Nashville or traveling there for an event!

I had my hair cut by Heather today and she did a fantastic job! I have damaged ends and I'm attached to my length as I'm growing my hair out. She took off the perfect amount and maintained a great shape. My hair feels so smooth and clean. She is so sweet and accommodating. Surreal is a beautiful space as well with a good energy. I also love that they carry Davines because it is my absolute favorite product line EVER. Book with Heather. You will not regret it.

I was in Nashville for a destination wedding and decided to have my hair blown out for the festivities. I found Surreal Blow Out Bar on line and easily booked the appointment. I arrived to a quaint, clean space with a warm young woman at the front desk. Her name is Logan and turns out she was also my blow out gal. Logan was friendly and authentic and she did a fantastic job on my hair! We had a great conversation and I feel like I met a true Nashvillian! (nashvillian???) I highly recommend this place!

We went here for a blowout and were very pleased. My daughter went back for cut and color and it was absolutely awful. The color was terrible. The cut was terrible and the stylist, Fox, refused to dry my daughter's hair after the cut and color. It was an overall lousy experience and we won't return.

My first visit to Surreal and I am staying! Kirsten you are a true artist. Your ability to cut,color and style is nothing short of genius. Thank you for landing at such an amazing salon. The vibe is calm and soothing while the hustle is bustling outside! I was there at sunset and east Nashville has never looked so good! Surreal you are the real real! Surreal Hair Studio is a friendly, low key kind of salon with world class stylists. I have been seeing Melanie Stanton-Williams at her other locations previously, and I've been very happy with the move to her own studio. Major pluses: There is direct with stylist scheduling, no snooty receptionist. Everyone that works there is very friendly and it's always a very socialable environment. Superior styling and color products flexible, and available appointments time and attention to ensuring your style is done right! Appointments can be long, but it's well worth the final results. I've never had so many compliments on hair styles as I have after I leave Surreal Hair Studio. Treat yourself to some stylish pampering.

I recently went there to have my hair highlighted I had black hair and wanted blond highlights. the salon owner Melanie let me know that we could not get my hair all the way Platinum from black and one process and I said that was okay as long as we didn't end up red. I did not want any red. needless to say $500 later I have extremely Bozo red hair you. I contacted the salon owner again let her know how unhappy I was with the color. she was extremely rude and basically kept telling me how the Kardashians color their hair like I care. we had discussed while I was in the shower chair I did not want any red and she knew that but I ended up with that exorbitant amount of red highlights. I've spoke with many other salons that said you can go from black to blond with the right color toner and stylist. so do your research ladies don't end up spending $500 and end up with red hair unless that's what you was wanting. I truly hated to write this review I thought at some point in time the salon on her Melanie would call me in offer maybe a $5 toner to put on my hair so that I'm not walking around with such bright red hair that I do not like. But no such offer was made I waited several weeks after contacting her before writing a review hoping she would try to make things right. But she did not. so do your research. If you're wanting to blow out only someone to blow dry your hair for you this is probably an okay place if you're wanting color look around a little bit..

Heather has been doing my hair for 5 years She does the best job coloring my hair and Love the way she cuts my hair. The salon staff Are friendly and helpful. She always works with You to get a appointment that works for you. So glad I found Heather at Surreal. She does all my family. !!!

LOVE this place. I was recommended to go here by a co-worker and I am so happy with my service and what Laura Beth did to my hair. The color and cut were perfect and the price was great. I was going elsewhere for awhile and my hair turned an orangish color from the balyage I got done. Laura Beth fixed it perfectly! I also paid so much more at the other place for half the time spent and less of what was done to my hair than at Surreal. I can't wait to go back :)

Heather has been my go to for over 5 years. I absolutely adore her and so glad that my sister found her. She always does a fantastic job and wants to make sure that her clients are satisfied and happy. I greatly value the fact that if I ask her opinion on a cut or style, that she'll give me her opinion...... and she always ends up being right :). Highly recommend her!

This is not a blow out bar, it's a salon that also knows how to wash and dry hair. My hair looked decent for an hour. Now it looks like it always does when I let it air dry myself. Typically blow out bars give you tons of volume/curls/waves that last several days, a relaxing environment and you leave feeling like a million bucks. I'm incredibly disappointed with what I paid for and am leaving this review to save others from a similar experience.

We had a bachelorette party and booked 8 of us to get a blow out weeks in advance and put a card on file. We had an appointment at 4pm, the day of the owner called at 11am to say that a couple of their girls got the flu and it was going to take longer. They then asked us to split up all of our appointments. We still wanted to send a few girls there and found another place they could accommodate all of us. When we called and said we could still do three there she said she was charging us and hung up. We immediately got charged and couldn't speak with them again. The owner was extremely rude the entire time and didn't seem like she wanted to do our hair at all or try and fix the problem. I Would definitely not recommend this place! And don't put your card on file! Very unprofessional business and seems like the only thing she cared about was the money and her convenience

My two girl friends and I were two minutes late to Dryhouse and we're turned away from our appointments! We saw Surreal down the block and walked in. Though they weren't able to take us on a busy Friday afternoon, Melanie called three other local salons that offer blow-outs to get us appointments. She went so above and beyond-- we will be back to Surreal on our next trip!

I love this salon. I have been a Surreal customer for 8 years. I love my stylist, Heather Wells, and would not trust anyone else to keep my blonde hair looking amazing. She does my whole family's hair now! I also love coming here in between cuts and colors for blowouts, especially for special events. The salon is gorgeous, clean and everyone is so friendly and fun. I would never go anywhere else!

I am so excited to hear that she is joining Surreal Salon and I highly recommend you book an appointment TODAY with her In the few months I have been coming to her she has completely transformed my hair. Her recommendation of the products I should use to not only make my hair healthier but also grow quicker are amazing! She never offers anything that is not something to benefit her client. Ashley also has taken the time (on several occasions) to show me how to use additional products and style my hair to be the best me I can be! Her color is natural and gorgeous and I always love my haircut as well. I am putting a picture from May of last year through just last month so that you can see how well my hair is turning out. Go to see Chelsea Hardy. She is the best! I always feel confident about my hair after seeing Chelsea. She is great at listening and figuring out exactly what you want. Not to mention, she is hilarious and fun to visit.

I have been a happy Surreal client for years! I started going to Heather regularly when they were located in Green Hills, so the drive to East Nashville is a little longer for me- but absolutely worth it. She is an amazing stylist and so attentive to detail that I never have to worry or second guess how a cut or color will turn out. If I want something specific, she will make it happen - but she will also give me great suggestions if I come in with no clue what I want. She and the other girls are all awesome - and I always look forward to my visits! Would definitely recommend!!

Horrible business and horrible people! Never go here or book! Takes an hour for a blowout apparently not to mention they are not typical nice Tennesseans

The owner needs to be more clear about cancellation policy. Absolutely rude and bad business. Will not be going back.
