We got kicked out.
My friend from school was visiting the city from Rochester and we had spent the evening in midtown. We ended up back down on Orchard Street, (where I have lived since 2014).
Now, I've walked past this little yellow store 1,000 times in the last couple years but, being a 50-year old NY'er, didn't often think this was a "place for me" - (a current running theme on Orchard Street).
So, a couple nights ago two young ladies were handing out free sodas in front of Susan Alexandra and my friend stopped to grab one. My friend said "OH! Pretty shiny stuff!! I LOVE pretty shiny stuff! Can I stop in? Do you mind?"
"Of course not." So, we walked into Susan Alexander - one potential paying customer, and me, my very first time, but hey, maybe I'll find something cool too!
We immediately were approached at the door by a young person who told us "Sorry we're closed for a Private Event."
Well, alrighty then. Handing out free sodas to draw attention to your business is a great idea! But, then immediately kicking out potential paying customers, in favor of a 'Private Bead-Related Event' is SO ORCHARD STREET!
So, my friend may have had to back home to Rochester beadless, but we, somehow, managed to still have a great time in "the rest of the city"...somehow.
