Google
Finally had the pleasure of trying Sushi a Go Go with a friend last week. Overall, things were fairly decent. We ordered a lot of items to try and the price was right! I was even given an order seaweed salad “on the house” because he told me he didn’t have enough for a full portion. I was shocked because I feel like the amount he served me was standard. It was a very kind gesture. As for the rolls, I thought they were okay! Everything seems a little too “saucy” for my liking. We ordered: • seaweed salad • *cupcake B • *cupcake C • salmon poke • captain crunch There was only one guy working and doing everything, but he was still very prompt. We were in no rush but he continued to be apologetic.

Google
Really enjoyed our meal. Everything tasted delicious and so fresh. We had a few different rolls, a sushi cupcake, a tuna poke noodle bowl and a miso soup. Cleaned plates and for a great price. Service was also really friendly. We will be back!

Google
Quick in and out sushi a go go. Got the California cupcake and smoked salmon cupcake sushi 🍣. Very good. Very friendly owners

Jacob B.

Google
Love this place. The food is top notch and It’s reasonably priced. In an area of BBQ and Americana, this is a nice break for some variety. We got several sushi rolls as well as some noodle bowls. Just so tasty. My only critiques are the service was a little longer than expected (worth it) and most rolls were just slight variations of California rolls or had mango. So not a lot of variety, but I didn’t care as they were all so good. The owner even noticed I had an Utah area code and connected over it. Great place!

Google
Sushi was very good! The fish was very fresh as well! With the quality and the prices, it was very well worth it!

Google
he sushi at Sushi A GoGo is hands-down the best in Des Moines! Every roll was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully crafted—truly a cut above. The appetizers and entrees were equally impressive, bursting with authentic flavors that made every bite a delight. If you’re a sushi lover, this place is a must-visit. That said, don’t expect a fancy atmosphere or lightning-fast service. The vibe is casual, and the wait can be a bit long at times. But trust me, the incredible food makes it worth every second. For the best sushi in town, Sushi A GoGo is my go-to spot!

Taryn S.

Google
Wonderful! Only one man working, but he was very timely and polite. The food was all terrific and the special rolls were unique. Some of the best seaweed salad I've ever had.

Allen H.

Google
Sushi was very good and flavorful. The place was very clean and one employee was always cleaning/scrubbing when not doing anything else. Very polite and prices were very good (2 rolls at 8 pieces and 1 roll of 4 pieces cost $25). Service was very good, we did have to wait for our food a bit, but we were there at noon on a Friday and I am willing to wait when it's busy and there is very good food. This was my first visit and I will be back.

Yelp
The sushi was fresh and delicious with tons of variety. The gentlemen who took our order and made the sushi was very kind and courteous. We will definitely be coming back!

Will K.

Yelp
Great service and great food for half the price and some of the best sushi in the metro

Paige K.

Yelp
Best sushi place in town! Always fresh, high quality, and friendly service. Rolls are very affordable and bang for your buck. Rivals popular sushi spots in the metro.

Giovanna S.

Yelp
Love this place. Family owned business. Sushi is always fresh! We love the cupcakes

Yelp
What a great evening. Getting to slip in before a meal rush on a Wed evening. Checked out the menu and then walled right up to the counter. I was craving the miso soup and the SUshi Cupcake C. Hubby tried one of the bowls and spoiled us with a couple more rolls. We are like kings for under$40. Every bite was delicious. The establishment was well lit and clean. We would recommend to anyone.

Yelp
I'm really digging this. I really enjoy having and eating sushi, but I dislike the expense, and I don't need the experience every time I want sushi type foods. This place delivers in the gap I like. Great quality food without the high prices and expenses. We had a poke bowl, soup, and a small cooked sushi roll. Everything was very good and when I went to pay I was even more satisfied. We will definitely be back to get our fix again. Food was very fast at 445 beating the supper rush in the door.

Yelp
First time here. Pretty solid menu and prices in my opinion. Sushi really isn't my favorite but my husband picked it tonight. He got the dynamite roll and I chose the teriyaki chicken crispy roll. He really enjoyed his and I loved the creativity of mine. We then ordered a spicy tuna and mango roll. There was A LOT going on with that one. I have a texture issue and that was just too much for my palate but my husband really liked it. The place is small but the staff we interacted with were pleasant and I thought prices and wait time were fair. I would definitely return and try their noodle bowl next time!

Mariah K.

Yelp
A gem!!! I almost don't want to post a review so I can greedily keep this place to myself. Small good menu, great prices and a small business. Owner is kind and sweet.

Bill G.

Yelp
Unassuming building but the food quality and flavor is top notch. My go to when I am on that side of town. Sushi cupcakes are amazing!
google avatar

Mary N.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Our sushi go to place.. my family enjoys everything about Sushi A Go Go. Great food, great service and quality ingredients are always used.

Ally V.

Yelp
This is our favorite sushi in Des Moines. It is always so fresh and made to order. I am gluten free and they are so great to modify for us! My favorite is the spring roll style baked salmon. I hope this place stays in business a long time!
google avatar

Dee W.

Yelp
Loved everything. This place is unassuming and very tasty. Calamari salad was a good balance of flavor. Tuna cupcake without mango had a good amount of tuna and rice with a lot of avocado. I love Thai basil but have never seen it in a sushi roll. It was interesting. I liked it but the basil almost took over all the other flavors. I am not complaining just saying, wow! I will be back.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place. Finally, a place where I could go to get poké bowls! I've been waiting for this for so long. And this place didn't disappoint. I've been here a couple times and ordered a different poké bowl each time. I've tried one with salmon and one with chicken. I have to say, I like the salmon one the best. And I really love the sauce. For me, it's all about the sauce. It can make or break a dish. Theirs is zingy and has good flavor, and there's just the right amount. My husband ordered sushi, which he liked, on our first visit, and a chicken poké bowl on our second visit. He enjoyed both meals. I like that the place is casual and you order at the counter and then they bring the food to you. The only reason why I didn't give this place five stars is because I thought the bowls were a little pricey and it was freezing in the restaurant both times. Also, if it's busy, expect to wait awhile for your food because there's only one person making the food. If you're in the mood for something light and fresh-tasting, try this place. The flavors are yummy and it's something different that is a welcome addition to Des Moines. It's one of my new favorite places.
google avatar

Deren S.

Yelp
This place is very interesting and If I'm correct one of the first places like this around the Des Moines area! This place offer sushi more of the raw variety versus the cooked kind which I personally prefer. The poke and sashsimi was very fresh for both salmon and tuna. Another way to see if the ingredients are fresh is to get the seaweed salad and see if it taste fishy or not and it wasn't! This place is more of a fast food type where you order first at the register then a person will come out and serve it to you. I been here three time and it seems they always are trying new menu items. I'll be back if I'm in the area and craving poke!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm a "sushi" fan (I only eat cooked rolls!) and I'm a big fan of baked salmon rolls. I knew all of my favorite sushi spots back home but when I moved to urbandale, it took me quiet a while to find a sushi place that a.) had cooked rolls and b.) didn't have junk in it (cream cheese, mayo, creamy sauces, etc). I was so excited to find the blackened salmon roll at sushi a go go! It was just what I was looking for. I first did carry out and realized they did actually put cream cheese in the blackened salmon roll BUT when I came back in person I just asked for it without and they made it with no problem. I'm dairy free so it was very nice of them to do. I brought my husband back here and he loved it as well. Friendly service and delicious food!
google avatar

Yelp
This place has variety that Sushi restaurants need!! I have always loved Sashimi but most sushi restaurants just have the usual sashimi option in comparison to a million options for sushi. This is a great place for sashimi lovers! There's a sashimi cupcake and many poke options! The poke has large chunks of sashimi! There's also good rice bowl or noodle bowl options. The service is pretty quick. It didn't take long to get our food and the staff is very friendly! If you're looking for a refreshing new sushi restaurant, this is definitely worth stopping in.

Yelp
What a lovely hidden gem! I was lamenting the fact that Des Moines doesn't yet have a place like Pokéworks (NYC, Chicago, etc) where I could get a poké bowl or a sushi burrito, so after a Yelp search for poké, I landed upon Sushi A Go Go, which happens to be very close to me. I ordered to go: a salmon poké bowl with noodles. It was ready to pick up in just 10 minutes. The décor of A Go Go is super cute, even though it's in a small strip mall in Johnston, it's a nice change of pace for the area. They have a varied but solid menu, and a case with different type of Ramuné sodas, if you're into those, which I hadn't seen too much in Des Moines. The dish itself was just what I was looking for: a bed of well cooked noodles (Not overdone, with a nice mouth feel) cooked in a flavorful, light sauce, avocado, a bit of salad, edamame, salmon (tasted very fresh), and a bit of sesame seeds. It came together wonderfully and was satisfying. I will be coming back to Sushi A Go Go to try the rest of their dishes. It's a good day when you find a place that exactly hits the spot with what you'd been craving!

Yelp
This place is a "Grab a sheet, mark what you want and pay upfront" type of place. You grab a table and your own drinks and silverware, plates, napkins etc. Which was fine with us! We had two kids in tow. We wanted Poke, but we didn't want to go somewhere fancy for fish. The employees were nice and helpful. The place is small but tidy. Okay, this place is more of a 3-1/2 Stars for me but because they have Poke bowls, I rounded up to 4 stars. Their rolls, bowls and menu all-around are their own take on things. Some are REALLY good, some are okay. It's a hit and miss here for me but I've mostly gotten tasty components here. I'll explain. The Poke bowl was fantastic the first time we went! Not too saucy, although over-priced for what you get, it was delicious. The second time we went, it was too much of a ponzu flavor or just too much of a, I just couldn't put my finger on it, but it was drenched in the flavors and it was not as enjoyable. Even the lettuce was drenched and limping. Each time we ordered a tuna and a salmon bowl. Both were made similar in tastes. So, we both noticed it. Even still, this place has POKE BOWLS! I will be back just for this! Lol The Cupcake Tuna Poke Sushi was really good. It's cute and filling. Next time I come, I'd order either the Poke bowl or this, depending on how hungry I am. This one had chunks of mango in it as well. The Chicken Teriyaki Noodle bowl was okay. The chicken teriyaki was good. Our son loved it. Cooked perfectly. The yakisoba was a tad over-done, so kind of mushy but nonetheless, they had yakisoba! Still decent! And a good portion size. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was not what we expected but we should have read the description above it better since it came wrapped in rice paper but it was a good mishap! It was really delicious! Would get it again! Simple but yummy! Our son liked it. The dynamite roll was not what I was expecting and what I'm used to. I would never get this roll again. It tasted like canned tuna with Japanese mayo on top. But this was really my only disappointing meal item that night! Everything else had great points to it to make up for what it was lacking. There were two other simple rolls I ordered another time to go and those were disappointing as well but I forgot the name.

Alex W.

Yelp
Tuna is fresh , rice is top grade and teriyaki sauce is fantastic. Portion is a little small but for the price , it is fair. Cali rice crispy is a little mushy (maybe due to long distance delivery). Never thought you would get this top quality poke bowl in Des Moines. Highly recommended .

Yelp
My favorite sushi in the Des Moines metro! Try the tiger roll...you won't regret it! Delicious

Yelp
This is a great addition to Des Moines. We stopped in for lunch today and we were pleasantly surprised at how quick the service was. They have some interesting dishes (i.e. Lettuce wrap sushi called sushi tacos, rice bowls, avocado sushi, etc). We tried the rice bowl and sushi taco (both were tuna). They even give you an option to order it spicy! Both were very good, but slightly on the saltier side. Other than that, everything was perfect. I wish that they will eventually branch into sushi burritos since they have the ingredients and it's basically just the rice bowls wrapped in seaweed! I've been waiting for a sushi burrito joint in Des Moines for some time now. The prices were reasonable for most items -- except the sushi taco which imo is about $1.50 overpriced. Overall, I am so happy to have this addition in the DSM area and we will definitely return!
google avatar

Richard W.

Yelp
Went with the salmon poke yakisoba bowl. The salmon and noodle was delicious. Didn't eat the cabbage/lettuce.
google avatar

Baylee O.

Yelp
Sushi A Go Go was delicious! We had the Tuna Poke Cupcake Sushi, Rainbow Roll, Salmon Poke, and Spicy Crab Yakisoba. We definitely loved the cupcake sushi and the Spicy Crab Yakisoba. This was cheaper than normal for a sushi place. There are not many other places in the DSM area with Poke Bowls. Would highly recommend!

Amanda J.

Yelp
Fast, friendly service! Good food and inexpensive. Wasn't the best sushi I've had and the environment is meh, but not bad!

Mary P.

Yelp
Nice family owned business, with great food!! The prices are great too!! Go often enough and they'll remember your name and what you like to order.
google avatar

Samm D.

Yelp
Love this new place. It is small. It seems to be owned by a husband and wife. Service was a little slow (the husband is the only one that makes the food). The rolls were fresh and delicious, so worth the wait. You also cant beat the price. This isn't a fancy sushi place but it is yummy and my new favorite sushi place!
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Smoked salmon sushi cupcakes and the tuna poke salad. It. Was. AWESOME! If you're in the north Merle Hay area, do yourself a favor and eat here!!!
google avatar

Craig Z.

Yelp
Food and service was great. I would like to see some better pricing for the size of the rolls.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Very good sushi. A little slow getting our food but the sushi was definitely worth the wait. Highly suggest this place. I had the California salad and the Philadelphia roll. Both were delicious.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
I visited the sushi a gogo and had 2 rolls. They were amazing. The amount of time within the roll was a nice solid amount and it was very tasty. The creation of the roll too longer than I thought it would take; but, the service was friendly and the rolls were worth the wait. I will definitely eat here again!
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect spot for Poke. Hands down the best in town. It's a simple little place but you can taste the love and pride in every bite. This place is a must visit if you are on this side of town. We drive from Ankeny to get this goodness.
google avatar

Genevieve W.

Yelp
First off they have a huge menu with plenty of selection! The location is super easy to find!! And being in a strip mall there is plenty of parking! You start off by selecting items on sheet then take to counter to order. We started off with Miso soup. Super salty but good. Large pieces of tofu. It's a large portion in a big soup mug. The Rainbow roll is a California roll with salmon tuna and shrimp on top and avocado which the California roll is delicious and packed with crab and avocado and cucumber. The Shrimp tempura roll was delicious. It was rolled in crunchy tempura bits and had a tangy sauce. Tried the Sushi cupcake mango. Avocado. Salmon crab. It's basically pressed rice with toppings and sauce, which It had a nice kick from sauce. The Sushi Spring roll was salmon avocado mango and instead of seaweed it has a spring roll wrapper that kind of gives it a sweet flavor. They have so many other things I want to try, Rice bowls, Noodle bowls, Sushi, salads. There is plenty of variety with both classics and modern twists Staff super friendly and goes out of their way to give you a good experience!! This will be somewhere I definitely want to try again.
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
Who would've thought sushi and fast going hand in hand. The food is fresh and restaurant is very clean. From start to finish I was in and out in 30 minutes. It's close to my office so am sure I'll be a regular soon.
google avatar

Hannah T.

Yelp
Delish! After finding out that this is the only place in Des Moines with poke bowls, I hopped in my car and was there within 10 mins. I got the tuna bowl with mixed greens instead of rice and it was divine. The ginger sauce was a little spicy, but just how I like it! I can't wait to try it again and again and again. I think I live there now.
google avatar

Brooke K.

Yelp
Food was super fresh and service was friendly. Very reasonable prices for the portion as well. Will definitely be back! The cupcake sushi, tuna poke bowl, and dragon roll were all on point!
google avatar

Dillon T.

Yelp
I'm a big supporter of local business so when Sushi A Go Go opened in Johnston I was excited. With that being said I was conflicted about writing this review. The facilities are nice and clean however you could smell a weird odor. The dinning dynamic is confusing as we were asked to pick up a menu at the counter and then told to sit anywhere. It's a strange mix of fast food sushi and translational sit down. Overall I was left confused if we were at a fast food place or sit down restaurant. Now let's get to the food. We ordered three rolls. The first was a sushi roll called mango spicy tuna. The second was the smoked salmon crunch. The third was the shrimp tempura crispy. I only had once piece of the mango spicy tuna roll as the fish had a weird texture and lacked any flavor. The smoked salmon crunch had a spicy sauce on it that was good however the salmon seemed to be old or too warm. The shrimp tempura was ok but nothing to write home about. All these rolls seemed to lack freshness and presentation. They also seem to use a larger kernel of rice which just canceled out any of the flavors within the roll. Again I was conflicted on wiring this review. I really wanted to like to Sushi A Go Go but that just isn't happening. There are several places in Des Moines I would recommend over Sushi A Go Go. Don't be distracted by the other reviews this place isn't somewhere you want to eat.

Dj J.

Yelp
Great place for sushi. They are very polite and the food is wonderful. We have never had a bad meal here. This is our go to spot for Sushi.
google avatar

Chong V.

Yelp
The food itself was great and freshly made to order in front of you, have the basic sushi rolls so dont expect any specialty ones. The place was very pleasant and open, however what disappointed me was the lack of service. You walk in and they stare at you without greeting or telling you were to sit, then you actually walk up grab the menu yourself and check mark what you want to order. No one came by to check on us and essentially the lack of customer service is their downfall.
google avatar

Lane H.

Yelp
We were hitting the Des Moines area with less time to eat than we had hoped, so while looking for a spot to eat this recommendation popped up. I'm glad it did. First of all, it is a hybrid combination of fast food and sit down. I have seen this done in other concepts as well from Culver's to The Spicy Foccacia and I like it. You can go up and order quickly and set down and they deliver your food to you. No, they won't check back to see if you need anything but neither will McDonalds. The facilities were bright and clean. Very simple and streamlined. I liked the order forms near the door so if there was a line you could fill it out while you wait. Lucky for us, no line at 5:30 pm on a Tuesday. Now I've had sushi in a lot of places and this lands firmly in the middle. No better, no worse than most sushi places in Iowa. Previous reviewers mentioned the lack of anything "unique" on the menu and I will agree it is limited. However, I totally understand that because of the cost of sushi quality fish. I had several menu items and I tried a few others in my group. I really enjoyed the rice bowl and if I go back I'm looking at the poke bowl. Good luck Sushi A Go Go!
google avatar

Leah A.

Yelp
Lots and lots of choices-- sushi, rice bowls, oh my! My new fave sushi joint in the metro. They allowed me to make modifications because of food allergies that other places scoff at or charge me extra for. It took a bit of time to get our food after ordering but they only had two working. It's casual dining, but one of the staff came around to check on us. We plan to go back soon!

Katy L.

Yelp
Best sushi I've ever had. Flavors are well balanced and super super fresh. Love coming here when I'm in town

Jasmine S.

Yelp
So good! Sushi is fresh, and customer service was great. If you happen to pass by, or you're looking for a good sushi place. This place is for you!
google avatar

Sasha K.

Yelp
This was an extremely pleasant surprise. Hole in the wall in a small plaza in Johnston, Iowa is not where I expected to have some outstanding sushi. Basically you grab a sheet and mark what you want to order and take it up to the counter. It's basically a self-service place although staff is very friendly. We started with Miso Soup and Seaweed Salad both of which hit the spot with generous portions. We ordered some of the classic Sushi rolls including California and Philadelphia which did not disappoint. Everything tasted fresh including the Salmon rolls and Shrimp Tempura which had the perfect amount of crunch. My two younger kids went with Rice Bowls which is a combination of meat, rice, and vegetables. In our case the meat was crab and chicken teriyaki. Kids seem to enjoy it! This place is far from fancy but if you want good Sushi it's so worth it. Only minor complaint I have is the amount of wasabi provided was on the conservative side. We will be back!
google avatar

Jeff J.

Yelp
Awesome value, good quality fish, and tasty rolls; this place is underrated. Come here if you want to get your roll fix but don't want to max out your card. Sushi A Go Go is for those who like to eat and bounce, none of that table candlelight and dimly lit dining rooms. This is a quick lunch or dinner spot that's great for carry out sushi night too. It's fast service but the sushi hits the spot and tastes fresh. I definitely have to try out the poke bowls, especially because this is the only place that has it in Des Moines.
google avatar

Corey P.

Yelp
Very good for a no frills sushi place, with a sit-down meets fast casual vibe. Very clean, modern, and reasonably priced with prompt service. Decent menu with many options, but doesn't have the more adventurous rolls or loaded specialty rolls.
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
All sushi rolls were very good, staff was very friendly, average to long wait time for rolls to be made (we did order 10). Quality was great but shrimp tempura roll was different than others we have tried before, not bad, but also a little spicy. Value for the money I would rate 8.5/10. The California roll being the best bang for the buck at a solid 8 pc roll for 4.50. Also they did have daily specials.
google avatar

Katie T.

Yelp
Staff was helpful and nice and the interior is really cute. The prices were reasonable and the food was great! It's one of the only places to get poke in West Des Moines, and it was really good. The only thing was that it was really quiet in the restaurant and we felt like everyone could hear our conversations.
google avatar

Jerri L.

Yelp
A great addition in Johnston! The service is very friendly and servers are personable. We have been there when there has been a line and people waiting for to go items, and have also been there with no one else in the place. Sometimes the wait can get longer than it seems it should, and once when ordering three noodle bowls, they seemed to make them and bring them out one at a time, leaving us waiting for others to get their food, or eating alone. The timing of serving the items seems to need to be better thought out. The noodle bowls are absolutely our favorites! But the avocado bowls are delicious as are all the rolls we have experienced. It is nice having a nearby sushi location!

Yelp
This is a great Sushi place. They have very fresh products - our family loves to order take out from here. Family owned small business and personal service. Give them a shot!!
