Google
Best sushi in Sioux City that I have had. If you go, try the crab rangoons, they are so good, never had anything like it. My boyfriend and I come here all the time. Bud and Leon are the best!

Elizabeth F.

Google
Nice place, clean. Food was delicious. Portions a bit smaller than expected but made up for in quality, fresh ingredients. Shrimp ramen, snake roll, & crab rangoon are Chef's Kiss.

Shane L.

Google
Easy to find, fast service, and good food. The rolls are smaller than most other sushi places but are still good. The menu has quite a few options with a few vegetarian choices. They have daily specials that they run. If you're in the area it's worth stopping in. They also offer order ahead for pickup dining. It wasn't too busy at dinner time, so if you're looking for good food in a quiet location check it out.

Google
First of all, Sushi Bamboo has consistently delivered quality sushi. I’ve always had a good experience with the environment and friendly staff. Choose this restaurant for your next sushi experience. Today I enjoyed edamame and Spicy tuna roll.

Lindsay C.

Google
The food and service are both amazing! Everything tasted great and the employees were extremely polite. We will definitely come back.

Google
Very good service, mediocre food. Maybe I should try the sushi next time. I didn't much care for the chewy beef I ordered. The flavor was ok, but the beef was too tough. The poke bowl itself was pretty unimpressive, too: Rice, corn, soy beans, beef. The end. It wasn't terrible. I just expected it to be good. It was just fair. Maybe it's my fault; beef isn't their speciality. But I was so excited to see Korean food on a menu, I had to order it. Now the guys working really showed kindness and courtesy. It's counter service, but for counter service, it was 5 Star. Because of that, I'd be willing to consider going there again.

Jalynn E.

Google
Food was amazing and fresh. Staff very friendly and helpful. I will definitely eat here every time I am back in Sioux City!

Google
My husband and I love eating here. We love the teriyaki chicken bowls and steamed pot stickers. Food is made fresh, great flavors. Restaurant is always clean, owner and staff are always very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
The service was very good. Polte and hepful. It's a clean place with counter ordering but they brought the food out to us. Japanese or teriyaki beef was disappointing. I'll get sushi next time.

Courtney B.

Yelp
I go here atleast 3 times a month they are my favorite sushi place in Sioux City. The people who work there are super nice and accommodating. The restaurant has really cute seating and nice tables.

James S.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was exceptional. They even gave us free ice cream at the end the place is a little small. We had a large group and took up most of the place
google avatar

Yelp
No nonsense sushi restaurant with additional Chinese kitchen entrees. Fuji Roll and Teriyaki Salmon(well done) were absolutely fabulously flavorful with lots of sauce! I felt amazing after eating some veggies after a day on the road. Helpful friendly staff and lots of tables!

Owen K.

Yelp
Amazing food and great customer service. Worked fast and was very clean and nice when taking our order and giving us our food

Yelp
Great small little sushi joint in a strip mall outside of the downtown area. As someone who eats sushi on a regular basis... it is somewhat of a surprise in an area not know for their sushi. Great selection of dishes from an attentive and skilled sushi chef.
google avatar

Irene P.

Yelp
Poorly explained food brought out hot steamed rice instead of cold sushi rice. It was so so for starving girl. Some fish is tough like rubber and tiny bit of tuna and salmon on bowl. Talking with girl, then told her just to sit down and relax without paying.

Yelp
LOVE the sushi here! I've only ever dined-in and have loved every roll I've tried. If you do dine-in they give you a soup while your sushi is being made...the soup is gross. I've tried every time to use salt, pepper, soy sauce, etc. to improve it...nope. Tastes like old man bath water. Seriously. It tastes the way an old person's home smells. Bathrooms are NASTY! Hold it if you can. They do take a good while to make your order, but it's made to order and it's always so good. Hope you can use chop sticks! No forks here! Drinks are standard. Decor is weird, but I come for the sushi, not the surf board and tv playing cartoons. Try the tiger roll!

Yelp
Excellent sushi! Awesome variety of rolls, and very fresh. I love this place. Highly recommend!

Sue N.

Yelp
Always made fresh with a wide variety of rolls, noodle & rice bowls. Perfect for lunch or dinner and the entire family. Dine in, take out or grub hub delivery service is also available.

Natasha H.

Yelp
Sushi Bamboo has been our favorite sushi place in Siouxland for the past 9 years! The atmosphere is a lovely beach, surf, and bungalow vibe. The service is excellent--always very thorough, considerate, and kind. The sushi is beautifully made and delicious every time. 10/10 would recommend and hope to keep supporting this local place for many years to come!

Maren C.

Yelp
Not ordering from here again. their selection of sashimi is basically salmon, eel, and 4 kinds of tuna. Their miso soup is sub-par, and their tempura is not tempura at all, more like small katsu, a rip off for the price. Their rolls are fine, but nothing else is authentic or well done.

Yelp
There are four dedicated locations for Sushi in Northwest Iowa (not weekly "sushi night" restaurants), Sushi Bamboo, Japanese Steakhouse, Mr. Stir Fry and Fuji Bay, all in Sioux City. There are pros and cons to all, however if you are looking for a "fast food sushi" type of location that has great food and great service, where you don't have a table server and consequently are not socially obligated to pay higher dollar server gratuity, Sushi Bamboo is your best choice. "Leon", the owner and manager and his assistant and cousin "Jade" do a tremendous job keeping you happy- which becomes quickly evident when they bring out your complementary cup of tasty miso soup with every meal. I have had GREAT sushi in many locations- Buddha Sushi in The British Virgin Islands, Sushi Roku in Phoenix, Ra Sushi in Atlanta, Sushi Dan in Los Angeles, Tsunami Sushi in Salt Lake, Sushi in the Raw in Nevada City California, to name a few greats. Although Sushi Bamboo is not a gourmet sushi location by any means, their great selection of rolls, wonderful service and value make it an excellent choice.

Yelp
Not a review of the food but of the people... I've travelled 7,200 miles and 30+ states on a motorcycle in the last three weeks. I can honestly say that talking with Leon and his wife was one of the absolute highlights. Conversation ranged from British vs American English education to literature, The Hero's Journey to the notion of there only being seven core story concepts, writing journals to writing fiction, families to travel. The hours at until 9:30. I got in at 9:15 and they told me I was welcome to stay until 10. We actually talked until well after 10:30. I wonder how many locals, as I'm sure I do at home, must come in, order, eat and leave without ever thinking about the people serving. Take the time to talk and there are wonderful experiences to be had. It's these things that elevate a place from a place to eat to a place to visit with friends. I highly recommend talking with these great people.

Yelp
I like this place for take out sushi rolls. The rice is sweeter than I'm used to, but is OK for the price. My husband thinks it is great. The rolls are mostly less than $6 or $7 and the other items are around the same price. Everything is made fresh and quick, but I've never been in when it is busy, and all I've ordered is rolls and edamame. Decor is definitely tropical feeling but CLEAN!!! Maybe it is because it is new, but is refreshing. You order at the counter and then pick up your order at the counter. I don't know if they serve you if you are staying. There is a fast food feeling about it even though I know it is all made to order.

Kelsey C.

Yelp
Very disappointed. I spent $100 on grub hub to order some sushi. It took over 2 hours to arrive ans delivery time kept getting extended. We were missing out crab rangoons and veggie tempura. One of my sushi rolls was incorrect and the orange chicken was literally chicken nuggets and sauce on the side. The sauce had no flavor
google avatar

Shannon T.

Yelp
My sister and I drove here from Vermillion, SD for sushi one night last week. We had a shrimp tempura roll and a spicy salmon roll. I also had a seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was pretty standard and didn't stand out compared to others I've had. It was a large quantity for the price; I could barely finish it plus 1/2 of a roll. The shrimp tempura roll was OK; I've had much better. But for a small little place in Iowa, this place is ok. The staff tries hard to please, bringing you complimentary miso soup. The prices are reasonable. It's cute and clean inside.
google avatar

Lacey T.

Yelp
The sushi is so good but the wait is always 20+ minutes. If you order carry out and someone behind you orders dine in they get their order before you.
google avatar

Raun L.

Yelp
Great food, great staff. We love the Sushi and the Crab Rangoon but have liked everything we have had there. Clean environment & flavorful yummy food. One of the best places to eat in town. Fresh Ingredients. The location is small but comfortable.
google avatar

Vladimir L.

Yelp
This place is to sushi is what McDonalds is to hamburgers. The only exception is that they are charging top dollar for food that gives sushi a bad name. If you ever had a friend who does not like sushi, chances are they ate it here. On the multiple occasions I have gotten it, the rice was terrible. Most sushi aficionados know that rice is the most important part of sushi. This rice was inconsistent. Some pieces were too sweet, some dry, some too vinegary. On a positive note, the place is clean and I did not get food poisoning. They also have a happy hour menu that lowers the price of the sushi from ridiculous to just expensive.
google avatar

Mario R.

Yelp
Best sushi in town. Has me coming back every week, only the freshest ingredients are used in their sushi rolls.

Mark M.

Yelp
Very disappointed. The prices seem reasonable, but the pieces they serve are TINY. The fish is also not very fresh. And the one thing that makes me most angry about restaurants like this is when they BLATANTLY LIE to their customers about what they're serving. I ordered "albacore tuna" nigiri off of their menu, but what they served me was escolar. We all know that it's a garbage fish that is NOT tuna at all...and certainly not albacore. It's not the worst sushi I've ever had, but it was bad enough that I would never go back here. Anyone giving this place 5 stars is either not being truthful, or they just don't have any clue what good sushi is (or even decent sushi).

Kayla D.

Yelp
This place sucks. It's overpriced ($8 per roll and almost $5 for edamame) and it's not good. I live in California, so I might be a bit spoiled when it comes to sushi, but this place is far from authentic. They put pickled radish in our rolls and my Philly roll had cream cheese with chives. To be honest, I didn't mind the chives, but the pickled radish ruined the rolls. Next time I want sushi in Sioux City, I will go back to Fuji Bay.

Michael G.

Yelp
Sushi Bamboo is a surprisingly good little Japanese restaurant. The restaurant offers a varied menu with a large selection of items to choose from. I especially like the steak rolls. The decor is a little strange, with Southern California surfer motif mixed with Asian touches. Parking is ample and free. The staff is helpful and seems genuinely happy to see you as a customer. It's not unusual for the staff to bring you items to try for free. I usually prefer this Japanese restaurant over Fuji Bay here in Sioux City.
google avatar

Mitch L.

Yelp
The sushi was high for the quality you got. We asked for eel sauce and it was extra, this after ordering almost 45$ worth of cheap sushi. Atmosphere was ok. Wait wasn't long, but any where else they will give you eel sauce with a meal your paying a lot of money for. Just struck me as odd.

Soggy B.

Yelp
Service was amazing. The cashier was so friendly and even helped me with my card. We received our sushi in a timely manner. The cashier was very chatty and seemed to genuinely enjoy what he was doing. (Which is a good thing) I would recommend going. The California roll is delicious!!!! I will definitely go again in the future.
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
Do they cook their rice in coconut milk or something? Their sushi was barely palatable because of it! It was way too sweet, lacked vinegar, and was mushy. I can't believe they have 4 stars, the small sushi joint at the mall is better than this place! Service was excellent though, super nice people.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
To begin with, it's sushi in Sioux City... I have had better in coastal cities, but for the mid-west Sushi Bamboo is very good. The store front was very clean, the customer service was polite & friendly, and the spicy tuna roll was delicious. I wasn't impressed by the crunchy shrimp spring rolls, but the peanut sauce was top notch.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
A good little sushi place! The spring rolls with the peanut sauce are great and taste very fresh. A good selection of all types of rolls. It's a family run place and they are super friendly and helpful. Is it pricey? I would say average for sushi, you aren't going to get cheap sushi and enjoy it. I wouldn't go off the poor reviews of this place, my wife and I come here fairly often and have yet to experience anything bad. Like on reviewer said, it's a good everyday sushi place and I agree!!!
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
It's sushi in the Midwest. It is defiantly better than I expected by the looks from the outside. Clean restroom, fair price for rolls. Sashimi and nigiri cut very thin.

Doni G.

Yelp
The service at Sushi Bamboo was excellent. However, they don't have menu's and for people like me that means I have to ask a million questions, but the women taking my order was very friendly and suggested a few for me based on my taste. If you know your sushi this shouldn't be a problem though. I recommend you don't order the crab ragoons, there is no crab in them, they are pure cream cheese and greasy. The sushi was very good, but the rice is very sweet. I don't have the opportunity to each sushi much to compare a whole lot, but I have never had sweet rice before. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't a big fan of the sweetness. It does have a fast food feel to it. You order at the counter and get your own drinks, but they do bring your food to you if you stay. Price wise, I thought it was a little expensive for the environment and quality. Overall, I recommend this restaurant as long as you are expecting what these reviews tell you.

Camilla S.

Yelp
Sushi Bamboo--ok sushi for the price and quality. Staff friendly and restaurant is clean. From my understanding, the staff (or owners) used to work at a local grocery store preparing sushi that is packaged and sold. Anyone who's eaten grocery store sushi, this is what you'll get. Is it bad? No, but I think the quality of the product is higher at the other sushi restaurant in town (Fuji Bay). Fuji Bay has better tasting california, spicy tuna and dragon rolls than Sushi Bamboo, and this is why I go to Fuji instead. Sushi Bamboo is open on Sundays while Fuji is not, therefore their hours are more accessible to the public (Fuji also closes between 2 and 5pm).

Jeffrey M.

Yelp
I stop in often after a workout and it us by far the best sushi in town. It is located in what used to be a taco del Mar, so it definitely has a non traditional vibe. Nonetheless it is still an excellent restaurant.

mel s.

Yelp
This place is more causual then Fuji bay. They had descent sushi; the rice was just a bit too soft though. Their caterpillar roll was good as was there spicy tuna. They were friendly and open to giving suggestions. We ate in restaurant and they were quite prompt about bringing us our sushi. They brought us a cup of miso to start with, and it was good. It had the usual tofu but it also had some nori (seaweed) squares.

Cynthia C.

Yelp
This place is Clean!! And the service is really good, granted we are the only ones there for lunch. I like the seaweed salad, especially for it's price. The sushi deluxe is good, where the scallop was much better than expected and the rest pretty ok. Given that I have been spoiled by San Francisco sushi scene. However, I will definitely not recommend the miso soup. But you should try their chicken on a stick thingy.

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Friendly staff, large selection, reasonable prices, and great tasting sushi and crab rangoon!

Nikki K.

Yelp
Not much to look at but the food and service were awesome! It's set up like a subway where you order at the counter but they bring it all out to you. Was worried when we walked up but as soon as we got our meals I was pleasantly surprised. We had a hot meal, soba soup and 2 rolls. All were good. We will be back.

Ian M.

Yelp
The restaurant is always super clean which I appreciate every visit I make. The sushi platters have a good spread and can be pricey, but you seem to get a better quality sushi from this establishment. I recommend this to anyone who wants sushi in Sioux City.

Sarah P.

Yelp
This restaurant is not only very tidy, clean, and comfortable, but service is great. The sushi is delicious. The other dishes are great tasting and presented beautifully. it is fresh. It is always enjoyable to go and eat at Sushi Bamboo.
