The first restaurant we went to after moving to North Beach, Sushi Bichi did not disappoint! We went for lunch, and while the restaurant was quite empty, the service was excellent. It was a hot afternoon and most of the seating is outside, so I suspect this to be the culprit of the low attendance.
We had our pick of tables, so we chose a shady one next to a fan. The restaurant is nestled right off the beach on the Miami Beach beach path. Sadly at the time of this review, there is construction in between the restaurant and the beach, but once the construction is complete the ambience will be just perfect! They have string lights strung as well, so the nighttime vibe is dreamy and romantic.
We got a bunch of starters, all of which were fabulous. We got the crispy rice, our favorite, which was extra crispy! The tuna tiradito was also notable - pieces of tuna sashimi in a tart raspberry sauce. The sweet and spicy edamame was prepared in a pretty unique fashion. They were topped with tajin, that red spice that is put on the rim of margaritas, and drizzled in Maple syrup. Another item that I utterly loved was the Citrus Grilled Octopus. It had large chunks of grilled octopus along with fingerling potatoes all topped with an orange citrus sauce. Absolutely perfect dish in my opinion. Highly recommend if you love octopus.
The rolls we got were very unique. The Zenbu Naruto is a soy paper roll with a bunch of components and a touch of sweetness due to the yuzu jam and the sauce that was on it. The hamachi jalapeno roll didn't really pack any amount of spice and was rather bland in taste. The jalapeno was inside the roll and served more as a means to crunch than spice.
Aside from the hamachi jalapeno roll, everything else we ordered at Sushi Bichi was phenomenal, though a bit on the pricier side for lunch if you want to share a bunch of things. I wouldn't say their prices are outrageous for dinner though and I'd like to go back for happy hour as well! The happy hour drink specials aren't great ($9 cocktails and wines, $6 beers), but they have a ton of food specials for $7, and food specials during happy hour in North Beach are hard to come by.
I would highly recommend Sushi Bichi for a nice, outdoor Japanese dinner! Their flavor combinations are amazing, and the service was prompt and friendly. Will definitely be returning often.
