I have been eating sushi for most my life but in my adult years I have been hesitant to try a omakase dinner due to the possibility of just getting over charged for items that are already on the menu; I believe the omakase offered here falls under that category.
I opted for the $250 tier that included 15 courses with what was initially described to me as having sake and beer included, tax and gratuity not included. A number of sake did come with the meal, beer was never offered but I also never asked for it. I do believe there is a cheaper omakase tier at only $150 but without sake, I dont know if it has the same number of courses.
My main issue with the omakase I received was that AT LEAST two-thirds of the dishes are readily available on the menu, some of them even on the Happy Hour menu. Some rough calculating I did showed that the menu items, the Happy Hour items, and the few items I couldn't accurately price roughly comes to the $150 price point (tax not factored). Which is fine; if I'm just ordering those items a la carte off the menu. I came for what was described as seasonally rotated items that had to be curated in advance with at least a 48 hour reservation; Original, custom, one of a kind, even dishes that someone hasn't had before.
Also, the number of "courses" is some what exaggerated almost to the point of being bloated. There was a number of courses where it was the typical two piece order of nigiri, a very skimpy plate of sashimi, and one sushi roll. Most of the nigiri could have been served at once, more pieces of fish for the sashimi, and a unique custom roll that isnt already on the menu. I do feel there was skimpy portions when it came to most of the sushi I ordered.
However, all the food that I ordered tasted great and seemed to have been made with care by the chef and staff. The three dishes I liked the most were the brussels sprouts, salt and pepper squid, and the blueberry creme brulee. I was particularly fond of the brulee since it was almost a savory dessert, with just the minimum needed amount of sweetness. Service and attentiveness was on point, and the chef for my omakase was very personable and knowledgeable about the dishes he served.
I definitely would not order another omakase here, and wouldn't recommend it to future patrons if they are just going to continue to slide regular menu items in front of customers. But, I would come here again to try their regular menu and Happy Hour options.
