Yelp
I wanted to put 4.5 stars.... 5 stars for the experience, 4 stars for sushi.
This review is for New Year's Eve dinner.
Shout out to the staff for being so understanding and accommodating. I actually made the reservation on the wrong date, I wanted to make it on the 31st December but apparently from Friday to Sunday they were offering New Year's Eve menu...dumb me made it on Friday. I got the confirmation email and then I realized my mistake, I emailed them and they gave me a same day response so I didn't have to worry about it for long time. No extra charge thank god
Ambiance 5/5:
First you will be seated in a dark outdoor area with the rest of your stranger companions, I'm very lucky to have a nice batch of friendly talkative people as I came a party of one. So there's like 8 strangers chatting with each other and they served us a pregame yuzu cocktail in a teacup, super delicious, they also serve us a welcoming bite. I guess after everyone has arrived we are to be transferred to the dining area, a small room with a large bar counter with three sushi chefs and a sommelier. I really like the transition it was like teleporting to another place. I really enjoyed that part. It says arrive 30 minutes earlier to the reservation and I guess it's to give guests time to interact with each other to enjoy the experience together. The ambiance is cozy and bright, the chefs were cheerful and funny.
Food 4/5:
This is innovative sushi so it can be hit or miss. It's mostly hits for me, however I must say some sushi with the heavy sauces are a little bit acidic there were 1-2 pieces that didn't work out for me. Also the truffles didn't really have much truffle taste as it's probably frozen truffle I suggest putting truffle oil or truffle salt on the piece instead and then adding some truffle for decorations.
The pieces that did work out though were spectacular. The nigiri with the pineapple was creative and tasty, the akamutsu is my favorite nigiri, it'a like an otoro that melts into your mouth, im glad they had that tonight. All the fish tasted fresh as it should for the price point and their brand. I wished there was a soup or something cooked in between the nigiris. It was just starter sake, one small bite a chawanmushi, nigiris, then dessert. I was full so I'm not complaining but perhaps taking out some nigiri and putting a different course there would be better and more variety. The dessert was also very delicious but I again I wish there was more that dessert was so small :/ I can eat like 2-3 of those
Service 5/5:
I wasn't served by the main chef but my chef I believed is the best when it comes to service, he wiped my plate every single time a new piece came, I have a thing for crumbing I like my table spotless all the time if I'm out eating fancy. I look over to the left where these guests are served by the main chef and he didn't wipe their sushi board for every piece their plate was dirty like all the time, I'm glad I didn't have to take pictures using their plate. Look how clean my plate look. I'm really thankful for him, he did it without me requesting. The sommelier was really nice as well they had wine pairing I didn't order but I ordered a sake and a cocktail, I would skip their sake, the cocktail was really delicious. I think I ordered a beehive? They have mocktail option too hehe. The chef introduced each course though in a fun way it wasn't boring or dull, he tried to feed us knowledge with a sense of humor. So it was fun throughout the dinner. Everyone had small talks with the chefs and the people around. I didn't feel like I was dining alone at all.
I would recommend going here as they said the menu will change often, it's exciting to see what new flavors they will pair the nigiris with. I hope they will take all the criticism and excel. I might not be coming back for awhile as it's a long drive, but I do wish them the best. Please remember that you are paying for the experience. The food and drinks is good but don't solely judge them for that. Remember a nice dinner includes the environment, the atmosphere, the companions, the food, the experience, and the service. I had a wonderful time here despite maybe not enjoying 1-2 piece of nigiri.
