We came here for my daughter’s bday and she had a great time. There’s so many choices of maki and nigiri sushi along with lots of desserts on the sushi train conveyor belt. It’s a lot of fun just watching my kids pick whatever they’d like and chow it down with a smile. The staff is quick and fine about ordering any sushi not on the sushi train or straight from the non-sushi options on the menu. It’s a fun place for a birthday or happy hour!

Google
Fresh food, love the sweet shrimp sushi. Friendly environment, good place for sushi lovers.

MegaB

Google
The food is okay. I gave it four stars because there's so much sauce on top of those that I would like to have my sushi without the salsa over it. Service is okay. Sometimes they kind of ignore you. But other than that it's a fun place

Google
Consistently mediocre sushi served in a sterile, joyless environment by often unfriendly employees. There are much better places nearby.

Google
This is my go to sushi spot, the staff is so kind and helpful and the sushi is so good and fresh! I really love the ambiance and I’ll happily dine in, to go is amazing too because they make everything for Togo fresh:) best nigiri and best miso soup in Portland !!

Google
I love this place because it's so easy, you know exactly what your getting, the food is good and the staff is a no-faff just good service crew. If you don't see what you want on the conveyor belt you just flag down a server and make an order and it's made fresh in minutes for you. I like the selection of nigiri, maki cooked rolls, maki raw rolls, and side dishes. I always go here before movie night at Hollywood Theatre and will for the foreseeable future.

Google
For a cheap sushi train, it's the best. I barely use the train, I order sashimi and you can get nine big pieces of yellowtail, tuna and salmon for under $15. Then I get a bowl of fresh rice to go with it

Google
We came in around 8 pm, and it was busy. we had to wait a little bit, but the service was great, and they made the rolls in front of you. You can also order rolls if you don't see any on the line in front of you that are to your liking.

Yelp
4.5 stars. My go-to conveyor belt sushi spot in Portland. Parking can be tricky, but it's worth it. Super fresh and generous slices of fish for the nigiri plates. Come during happy hour to feast well on a budget. Service is classic Asian auntie vibes. If you have issues with it, keep it to yourself.

Yelp
Sadly, I won't be back. I have eaten here for years. Sometimes, multiple times a week. But after finding a hair in my food, there are other sushi places I can go to. The food prep team does not wear hair nets. Maybe they should? I am surprised to see these pictures where the food prep team are all wearing hats, because that is not the case anymore.

Yelp
The food here is always on point, fresh fish, tasty options and excellent value. The service is easy going and attentive, and the ambiance is fun and inviting. This is my new lunch break fave (esp during happy hour). I will be coming here way more often than my wallet can handle

Yelp
No frills conveyor belt sushi spot. I always have salmon sashimi and it's excellent. I've sampled most of the other options as well. Solid. Also fairly affordable which I appreciate. Service is... minimal but the staff works hard to keep the belt full of food

Yelp
I had a good experience at sushi chiyo. The food was good and the vibe was good too. Service was quick and we got seated immediately. I personally love conveyor belt sushi places. I think the concept is pretty cool. I did notice, some specific rolls were pretty rare here. For instance, I never saw a spicy tuna hand roll, which would've been fun to try. The salmon (and salmon toro) were really good. It was cool that they had salmon toro. The snapper and yellow tail were just ok. I loved the spicy tuna, it was really good! The crispy California roll was just ok. Overall, I had a good experience here and would come back. It could be a super quick meal if you need.

Yelp
One of the few conveyor belt sushi places in PDX that still do happy hour. The sushi is fresh and the staff helpful. Typical sushi plates with a couple chef specials. One of our go to lunch spots.

Yelp
Great sushi and amazingly budget friendly. We got takeout from here the other night and it was fantastic. Many of the rolls here are half size (4 pieces instead of 8) but so are the prices, so you can get an assortment of rolls to try. We had the Spicy Crab, the Lion King, the Salmon Creek and the Philadelphia and they were all great. I especially loved the Salmon Creek. The crunchies on top were perfect. We also got the Gyoza and the Egg Rolls, and they were both crispy and flavorful. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the neighborhood. You will love the sushi, and the bill.

Yelp
Happy hour Friday afternoon was great. Fresh delicious fish ( we love salmon belly!) , the ebi was good too! Nice to be able to have the variety ( seaweed salad, marinated octopus, yum)... 13 plates later only set us back $34 plus tip of course... not bad for a quick lunch- will go back -

Yelp
What a great place for a quick bite if you're in the mood for sushi! My son and I went to a play spot close by and it was a treat to eat here. The people who run the restaurant are Chinese, but the food that I usually get is still tasty. Definitely would come back here again!

Yelp
Wonderful foods & perfect service. The chef is making excellent sushi and sashimi. And the price is fair. My wife and I come to this place twice a month. It's one of the best sushi restaurant I've ever tried in PORTLAND.

Yelp
We haven't came here in years and this place has really changed in terms of quality of food and service. I mean conveyor belt sushi is not a Michelin rated type place, but my hubs and I came here last Saturday and the food was so unappealing. I lost my appetite and left. The guy working behind the sushi counter had his back to us the whole time, and I think he was just sitting on his phone. The selection was horrible and tasted old, we ordered scallop hand roll but it didn't taste good and we didn't bother ordering more because all I could see was the back of his head the whole time. This place used to be fun and decent to come to with the kids, but not really a fan anymore.

Yelp
Sushi Chiyo is my second PDX conveyor belt sushi experience and it was 100%! A really nice interior with both booths and counter to pick things off of the conveyor belt. There is a menu indicating the prices of different plates, plus other things you can order if you don't see them coming around the bend. Fish quality was excellent. We tried salmon, tuna, fatty tuna, whitefish and eel and all were fresh and generous. Honestly the singe best thing I ate at SC was a deep fried salmon jaw. If you don't see it on the belt, definitely order one, you can thank me later!

Yelp
Sushi Chiyo has good sushi at a great price, and customer service that leaves a lot to be desired. They really don't care that you enjoy your meal there, everything is rushed and it feels like you are on constantly on their timeline. I get it, I've worked food service forever. I have dealt with people so awful that I've stared at the back of their heads, trying to get them to pop. But come on, you have to at least FEIGN that you give a cr*p when public facing. Even in the middle of the day, with no customers in. I usually have to ask for a glass of water, and sometimes even for soy sauce and chopsticks, they often won't serve you that automatically. They close at 10 pm, I came in at 9:31 p.m. on the dot and the host says they only offer to go. Okay cool, that being said, they have a full row of people sat in the booths, still actively being served full meals. This is the first time I've ever heard of this. I've been in multiple times right at 9:30 and have sat and ate just fine. It was kind of a slap in the face. I called prior to check the hours and no one answered, twice. And while waiting for my order, I watched the host and waitress acknowledge a phone call, laugh to each other about not taking it, and then walk to the other side of the room. BONUS / CON (depending on who you are) They play EXCLUSIVELY Taylor Swift There is one server there who is always really sweet, and helpful, shout out to her! If I knew her name I would acknowledge her here. TLDR: The sushi is pretty good, The prices are great though. Overall It's okay, but I'm begging for the owner to do a quality of life upgrade for their employees or something. So they can at least have the energy to pretend not to hate you

Yelp
One of my go-to places for conveyor belt sushi. The staff is friendly, the service is always excellent, and the sushi rolls and sashimi are always very fresh and tasty. Happy hour is between 1:30 and 4:30...good stuff!

Vi N.

Yelp
First time here and I have never been so flabbergasted by such horrendous customer service. I know everyone has their days but this woman deserved no tips for her continuous bad service and RUDE attitude. Not once were we checked on, each time we would have to wave her down, it would seem like it's the biggest inconvenience for her.. She was serving another table behind me and they had some questions, as she walked away she ROLLS her eyes. I understand teenager servers acting like this, but for a 40-50 year old woman??? If you don't enjoy serving find another job.. Wish she had a name tag or something so I could tell you who to avoid when going here.

Athena Z.

Yelp
Great food, fresh and tasty. Friendly staff. I'd highly recommend that anyone who loves sushi gives it a try.

Liv S.

Yelp
Food is soooo good but the workers don't listen to you like when I try to talk to them about ordering something they either act like I'm insane or they just flat out ignore me. They've also forgotten about my udon so many times and I've had to wait over 30 minutes before, and when I tried to get waiters attention I was ignored. I gave them my payment once and I ended up having an extra dollar that I was hoping to get back, but the checkout lady said "Thank you for the tip" and put it in the tip jar without any consultation with me. Overall really terrible customer service, but good food.

Louis Z.

Yelp
Good sushi and quick easy lunch or dinner. Very family friendly. The sushi goes by on a track of floating boats. The staff is very nice about making anything we request quickly.

Yelp
Heard that Sushi Chiyo was among the better conveyor belt sushi restaurants in town. Didn't live up to expectations. Minimal service and flat-out bland and somewhat pricey food. Of the plates we tried there were maybe two that we actually liked, and one was the edamame. Most disappointing was the rice, which lacked that slightly sweet vinegary taste particular to properly made sushi rice. Nothing really to recommend here. Tried Sushi Chiyo once, won't try them again.

Yelp
We are not from Portland, but we are here for vacation. I had a great time with my wife on a Sunday evening. It seems busy but we got sat down quickly. Food was delicious! Service was excellent! Yasmin?(if I remember correctly) she was amazing! She was friendly and able to satisfy our needs. THANK YOU for serving with a smile! The bill came out surprisingly, it was cheaper than what we expected!

Yelp
Have you ever had food that was so bad, you wouldn't eat that type of food for weeks, months or even years? Well, this sushi stays in my head and I lost my love for sushi at least until summertime, I hope. I ordered about 7 different rolls and not one was fresh or even rolled correctly, the rolls were literary falling apart, I am not a sushi expert by no stretch, but I have eaten plenty from all over the USA. The avocado was black, how does one even put the avocado in the roll in that condition. The fish smelled fishy and not in a good way, I even found a bone or cartilage in one of them... Yikes All & All ; I will not be returning and hoping my love for sushi returns.

Yelp
It's sad when a place you've frequented starts failing to meet your expectations. Throughout the pandemic we've ordered pickup from Sushi Chiyo and they've progressively taken longer and longer to fulfill the orders. They've got a great online system to order directly from them, but it is incredibly frustrating when you receive a notification stating your order is ready and you arrive to find out it will be another 30-45 minutes. Once... ok, stuff happens. Twice, hmm... I'm thinking maybe not. Three times??? I think I'm going to wait out the pandemic and order from you when you aren't so overwhelmed with orders you can't keep up. Note: My most recent review of Chiyo is in relation to direct orders for pickup. I highly suspect they place UberEats and Grubhub as priority, and make everyone else wait. I waited 1 hr and 10 minutes past their original quoted pickup time last night. Not acceptable at all!

Yelp
Much better than the other conveyor belt sushi places we go to. Real crab, quality overall simply better. We will be back!

Hope M.

Yelp
This place was alright the sushi chef was speaking so loud to the staff saw him spitting all over my rolls he was making. Totally grossed out!!!
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Not much in the way of customer service.... but really good fresh sushi that you don't have to wait for. Never thought I'd like conveyor belt sushi, but this was really good and inexpensive. Well be back.

Adam L.

Yelp
The people were reasonably nice but the food wasn't particularly good. Probably the least good conveyor belt sushi I've been to in Portland.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
Received a gift card to Sushi Chiyo as a parting gift from an ex-roommate and finally stopped by today to redeem it. I believe they've been closed for dine-in recently, so it was great timing anyway. They're a fairly standard sushi conveyor option. And I'm a fan of standard conveyor sushi! Watch the sushi go round, pick what you like when you see it, and pay based on plate color. Makes for a fun little date night.

Yelp
NOW MORE BETTERER! I think I was last here 2 years ago. And it was gross. Just wayyyy off. It's so much better now! The selection is standard for these places with a few extras you never see like fried salmon collar. The flavors are solid. I've been here 3 times recently and it's not a fluke. Nothing gross. Just yummy. It's a sushi conveyer belt place. You know what they're like cuz they're all the same (except the one on Mississippi. That one stands out) And this is a good one. So come back if you were like me and wrote this place off. They're doing a much better job now in every way. Even the vibe is better. Feels less depressing.

Mary D.

Yelp
I ordered via UberEats. My salmon toro , escolar, and masago nigiri are all delicious and well prepared. I also ordered the salmon roll and found it quite tasty. Highly impressed with the escolar, the flavor was amazing & it almost melted in my mouth. This has to be in my top 2 restaurants for it now. Well packaged and paid attention to my request for no sauce on anything. No idea the ambiance of the restaurant but well worth a trip to find out based on the delivery.

Jason S.

Yelp
Food was okay-ish. Nothing special for carousel sushi. 2 stars instead of 3 simply because the selection was terrible.
google avatar

dee w.

Yelp
Always good service. Love the different yummy sushis they offer. Reasonable prices! We go at least two-three times a month.
google avatar

Maurialee B.

Yelp
Let me tell you.. the people are nice, oh the sushi is Devine !!!! My favorite place
google avatar

Farshad M.

Yelp
I can't even say the service was bad because I didn't get any service. Not even the usual "what do you want to drink". Nobody ever came by. Food is ok. You get what you pay for. It's just super convenient. Probably not a place I would go back to unless they can find a way to look you in the eye and offer some sort of service to help make your experience worth it.
google avatar

Tobin T.

Yelp
Great value, okay atmosphere and the sushi is honestly pretty good. Everyone working there is speaking Chinese, so you might say it's not terribly authentic, but if you focus on the cost-value, it's a generally a win-win.

Jason T.

Yelp
Usually very good but tonight everything I ordered taste rotten or spoiled it was disgusting I had to throw everything in the trash
google avatar

Analia M.

Yelp
After eating there I got sick. Fish didn't taste fresh. The smoked salmon they use is very bad quality.

Ceri S.

Yelp
Customer service apalling. No menu and after placing a glass of water on my table the server left, ....didn't ask me what I wanted or even say hello. I waited for few minutes, feeling distinctly uncomfortable and finally got up and left. It's a pity because I love sushi and I work only a few blocks away. Can't comment on the food coz we didn't get that far. Won't be going back.
google avatar

Tim R.

Yelp
Solid rotating sushi, if you're into that kind of stuff. They have a large selection and the prices are a bargain. But with the prices, expect what you pay for. It's good stuff for the price point and better than many, if you compare to other rotating sushi joints in the city. Just don't come here expecting bamboo quality fish for a quarter of the price.
google avatar

Sonja H.

Yelp
We've eaten here for years - it was always decently good for the price. Tonight was awful. It was all cold and stiff- like the sushi had been prelate long before our order was placed. And the fish and roe didn't seem right- really strange -something is really off. I couldn't eat it and threw it away.
google avatar

Jacob D.

Yelp
Great spot to dine-in at portland as I was craving sushi at the time. The staff is really nice and attentive to showing me how the place works since I am still new to sushi bars in different cities. The prices were fair that had great selections to choose from as it was not busy at the time. They had great rolls at the pricier plates but is worth it no doubt.
google avatar

Leconte L.

Yelp
Meh not worth the price. It's okay my sushi wasn't holding together well. And the fish was brown like cooked I guess that's what I ordered.
google avatar

Casey L.

Yelp
Decent sushi, but most were room temperature due to it being pretty warm inside. Their customer service is poor. Came in solo on a Sunday afternoon for a few spicy tuna hand rolls & a cold Coors Light, but was never once asked if I wanted anything. I tried getting the attention of the hostess, but she never acknowledged me. I'll spend my money elsewhere.
google avatar

Doris W.

Yelp
Saturday morning I was driving to Pip's donuts and had passed this place. I remember it becuase I was sitting at a stoplight reading their happy hour sign. Then when I was back at my friend's place, she mentioned she had a favorite rotating sushi spot, and I was like "Is it Sushi Chiyo?" Turns out, it was! So we stopped by after 2pm on a Saturday. I am pretty sure we got happy hour prices. I think had 5 plates and it came out to less than $10 and I was stuffed! I enjoyed their nigiri, rolls, baked mussels, I thought everything was tasty for rotating sushi! And great price! I would come back!
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Just had my first delivery from Sushi Chiyo! Philly roll and Vegas roll were the best of what I ordered. The miso soup was too salty, probably won't get that again. The rice in the sushi was HOT, I think it's supposed to be room temp. Next time, I'll separate the pieces and let them cool down before consuming. The sweet potato roll - the yam was just a teeny tiny sliver, so I won't be getting that again. Will definitely order from them again though - great delivery service!
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
$$ One of the best sushi go-rounds I've ever been to! Great quality and options! Will visit again.

Ming L.

Yelp
Really inconsistent with their service for takeout. Several times the menu app has given a pickup time and I still have to wait for my order for over 30 minutes! I know many places are short staffed but I never even got an apology or even a quick "order is almost ready" from the staff. Giving 3 stars because we've never had an issue when we ate in the restaurant- cheap and cheerful, quick and decent sushi. Great place when you have hungry impatient kids!

Em A.

Yelp
Not very good. Couldn't bite through my sashimi, never experienced that before. Very offputting, still can't eat sushi a few weeks later. Plus rolls only come with 4 pieces, not cool.

Andrea B.

Yelp
Watch out! This restaurant with its non-existent service and openly hostile wait staff tags on a tip automatically to your bill. Will not return for this reason.
