New favorite AYCE sushi in the burbs!
Came here with my boyfriend on a Friday night, and the place was packed. I thought it was going to be an hour wait like most AYCE sushi places in the city, but we were actually seated within 10 minutes. The restaurant itself is moderate in size and decorated beautifully. There is bar, booth and table seating depending on availability. I'm not sure if it's BYOB, but there are plenty of wine shelves in the back corner of the restaurant and I saw a few people get up and choose a bottle to drink at their table.
Dinner is about 25$ and lunch is about 18$ per person. Everything on the menu from appetizers to special rolls is included in the AYCE. I truly believe that it should be at least 3$ cheaper; 25$ for AYCE sushi is Chicago pricing. On a side not, if you plan to have lunch on a weekend, be prepared to pay dinner prices.
The menu is rather different than a lot of other sushi places I've been to. We had the Edamame and Chicken Yaki as appetizers. The sauce or marinate on the chicken was really good and the portion was generous for an appetizer. For rolls, we ended up only trying their special rolls. You can get a California Roll at basically any sushi place you go to, so why not try something different? The order took about 30min or to come out, so be prepared to wait.
We had the following sushi rolls and I recommend each and every one of them - if you can handle all that food.
1- Torched Dragon - the lemon wasabi sauce on top is delicious and makes the whole thing come together perfectly.
2- Blu-Sky - have you ever had blueberry mayonnaise? You will if you try this roll! I was skeptical at first, but it tasted extremely refreshing.
3- Godzilla - Very similar to the dragon roll, except no lemon wasabi sauce.
4- Angel Roll - this roll is topped with a lot of fake crab and is a mouthful.
5- Turtle - very similar to the caterpillar roll. The only reason I ordered it was because it showed that it is shaped like an actual turtle. I thought this would make a perfect yelp/Instagram picture, but it came out as a regular roll. That was disappointing, but it still tasted really good.
Bottom line, the sushi here is great, service is somewhat fast and kinda friendly, but make sure you finish all your rolls or you will be charged for every PIECE you do not eat.
Another side note, if you plan to eat dessert, I did not see any on the actual menu. I am not sure if there is another menu for dessert, but we never asked and one was never brought to us. Normally, AYCE sushi places include dessert, but I guess this one doesn't.
~Till next time!
