Sushi Dan | Studio City

Cute little sushi joint in the little strip mall off Ventura Boulevard. I was meeting some friends at residuals Tavern after and this was a great pitstop to get some fresh sushi. Cute neon lights and decor. Service was excellent. Very friendly and speedy. I had a seaweed salad and a nice hot sake. Then I got the spicy tuna cut roll with easy rice and it was perfect. Very fresh tasting sushi. I forgot to get pictures before I gobbled down half of it. Lol. Happy hour Monday through Friday from 4 to 7. A lot of items on that happy hour menu with really good prices. Will be back!

This place was a nice little surprise. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but once you step in, the atmosphere is rather nice. Their Menu has plenty options to choose from and the service was fast. Wifey ordered the Rainbow Roll and I got the Mushroom Trio. Rainbow Roll was plated to please the eye and the Mushrooms were buttery, which I'll never complain about. All together great Sushi spot.

Fresh! That’s the most important word when it comes to sushi, and Sushi Dan delivers. This is an above-average mid-range sushi spot, especially in terms of freshness and overall food quality. Some dishes are pricier than at other places, but that might be due to the higher rent area they are located in. I’ve only ever ordered takeout, so I can’t speak to the dine-in experience. But even through takeout, the quality holds up. My favorite is the miso soup—perfectly balanced, not too salty, with fresh, soft tofu and real kelp. The lobster hand roll is the most generous I’ve ever had—more lobster than rice, which is rare. My only minor critique is with the sashimi cuts—sometimes they’re a bit too thick, other times just right. Not sure what’s going on there, but the freshness is consistently excellent, and that’s what matters most.

Every time I come here, I try something new and love it! The menu is super helpful and there are so many options. The service is really quick and the chefs are great at making recommendations. I definitely recommend the baked miso black cod for an appetizer and also checking out the chef creations board. I’ve never had an issue getting a table or finding neighborhood parking but I imagine evenings can be tough.

One of our family to-go-for-sushi spot.😁 all always fresh and Yummi sushi and friendly stuff. We also love their lunch special “box” of 3 or 4 meat thingies, always leave loaded😅🥲👍🏻

Sushi Dan is the best place serving the most delicious and excellent quality fish. Love ❤️ this place. Three weeks ago I visited the place again. The quality of fish wasn't the same as first time. I asked for a spicy salmon hand roll and it was filled with spicy sauce they serve you, so you didn't taste the salmon and it was very chewing and very little salmon. There was three of us and we spent a lot of money and where very disappointed.

We were able to get a reservation on Mother’s Day for a big group of 17 with little notice so it’s definitely a restaurant that can accommodate a big group. We were immediately seated and promptly given menus with their specials. The main menu was a QR code on the table. Even though our full party wasn’t there we were seated which is always a plus with a large party. They have a pretty extensive menu with not just sushi but hot foods from the kitchen. Food came out rather quickly except for one of kid’s meals. They did apologize a few times and offered to take half off, but at some point we decided to cancel as the kid was so hungry just ate someone else’s leftovers. Most restaurants prioritize kids meals but not the case here or at least not this time. Other than that it was a good dining experience and everything tasted delicious and fresh.

Amazingly good sushi. Love it. Seared salmon belly sushi was to die for. I like my eel perfectly seared, warm, tender and crispy on the outside - not that common (many restaurants serve it cold and rubbery). Spanish mackerel is my benchmark sushi dish that lets me judge a Japanese restaurant and these guys nailed it. Highly recommend. The only thing that disappointed me a little - was the fact that they didn't have any red snapper. But overall it's a solid 5/5 - excellent value too.

Wow what a delicious roll with albacore and baked salmon, crispy onions and truffle dressing. One of the best and they made it within a few minutes Iris was super helpful

Service was pretty good, and I like their little color-changing tree inside. But the food was pretty meh. The chicken in the teriyaki chicken was ok quality and the teriyaki tasted kinda weird. Very watery and overly sweet. The shrimp tempura in the rolls we got was yummy, but the rolls themselves weren't put together very well. The inside of the rolls were just easily slipping out of the rice/seaweed. Rice was falling apart. Fish quality was decent. Overall, just OK, but kinda pricey for what it is.

My go-to sushi spot in Studio City. The staff are very friendly and eager to help. The food comes pretty quick so you're never sitting and waiting for too long. The sushi tastes fresh and delicious, the specialty rolls are incredible (I eat their party rock roll at least twice a week) and they have good deals for lunch and happy hour. Love it!

Sushi Dan is one of my go-to places for sushi when I'm near work. Their fish is always fresh and they have excellent lunch specials. I love getting an assortment of fresh nigiri rolls (their salmon is exceptional) and the Bon Bon roll as a treat. The Hot Night 2 is also tasty. My friend ordered the sashimi and tuna tartare. She loved both. The staff is extremely friendly and speedy. They're very knowledgeable about the dishes and helpful with recommendations. It's also really cute inside! It'd be a great place for date night.

Bento lunch box! So much food and everything was great! Rice, salad, soup, 3 piece sashimi, 3 piece sushi and roll!? Best albacore sushi I have ever had, may even beat the yellowtail!

Review based on first time eating here. Really good. Had some food off the happy hour and tasted really good. Wife and my buddy had sushi which was also great tasting and visually looked great. Everything we ate was visually appealing and the taste matched. Recommendation was legit. I will be back to try more.

Food: 5/5 Such good sushi for the value!! We went during happy hour and we were each able to get our choice of rolls and a small plate of sushi for around $20 each. I chose the scallop baked roll and it was amazing! Full of flavor and tasted so fresh. My friend got the caterpillar roll and also loved hers. The sushi was also great, super fresh. You also get miso soup. We also got the tuna with crispy rice which was one of the best I've had. Perfect amount of crispy rice and tuna on each. Definitely come here if you want some good sushi at a great price! Service: 5/5 Such nice workers. Food came out so fast and service was attentive too. Ambiance: 5/5 Spacious with lots of seating + good music.

Stopped here for their lunch special. My sister who lives in Studio City said it is her favorite sushi spot in the area. The ambiance of the restaurant was amazing, and whoever was on the AUX needs a raise!! The music was so good lol. I got the bento box lunch special, it came with so much food and the sushi was flavorful and fresh. I love trying new sushi spots and this will definitely be on my list to return when I am back in the LA area.

First of all, parking lot is very small. Fortunately, someone was leaving as we pulled in so we were lucky enough to grab that spot. We went during happy hour. Everything we got was pretty good. It came out quickly and it was fresh. The have a couple of TVs so we were able to catch the Dodger game. I didn't catch the server's name but he was very efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. We had a couple of picky eaters at our table and he was nice enough to recommend a few things That turned out to be amazing! The inside is very cute. They have a couple of neon signs for photo ops and some really cute light up cherry blossom trees. I definitely enjoyed the vibe here. I noticed they had some macaroon ice cream sandwiches in the front that I was curious to try. Will definitely come back and try them

If you are looking for fresh sushi, then Sushi Dan is a must! The Hubby and I went for dinner, started with the garlic hamachi and wagyu beef sushi. The hamachi was melt in your mouth deliciousness! The wagyu beef sushi was marinated to perfection and very tender! Did not like that they only serve two small pieces for $22, that needs to be fixed. We then had the hot night roll 2, let me tell you, it is hot! Not like fire, like pepper! It was still very good though, especially if you like spicy food! The crispy rice and spicy tuna were amazing! My favorite though, was the Japanese style Ceviche! Lots of flavor, meat, veggies, and excellent sauce! They had several tables, a sushi bar to sit at, and fun neon signs that I wish I would have taken a photo of! Great service, several servers would buss our table as well as ask us if we wanted to order something else! The prices are a bit on the high side, for the amount of food that they serve.

DO NOT COME HERE THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE. If I could give zero stars, I would. This place is a disaster masquerading as a sushi restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were bombarded with obnoxiously loud music that made it impossible to have a normal conversation -- it felt more like a cheap nightclub than a dining establishment. The service was some of the worst I've ever encountered. No one greeted us properly, and our server didn't bother confirming a single item we ordered. Unsurprisingly, several dishes showed up that we never asked for -- and guess what? They had the audacity to charge us for them. When we pointed it out, the staff acted confused and dismissive, as if we were the problem. But the cherry on top was the manager -- an arrogant, rude, power-tripping nightmare. Instead of apologizing or even pretending to care, they doubled down and insisted we pay for the food we never ordered, threatening to call security if we didn't comply. Completely unprofessional and borderline hostile. The food? Mediocre at best. Fish didn't taste fresh, rolls fell apart on the plate, and presentation looked like a high schooler made it in a rush. Combine that with a headache from the music and the sheer stress of dealing with this place, and it honestly felt like a prank gone wrong. Never again. There are plenty of sushi spots with actual hospitality and basic competence. Don't waste your money here -- unless you enjoy being yelled at, scammed, and fed soggy, overpriced sushi.

We stopped in here for lunch last Saturday - - plenty of tables in the dining room and we were seated immediately. They have a nice sized menu with lots of fun sushi combinations plus plenty of options for your friends who don't like fish. Service was friendly and food came out at a decent pace.

The food was amazing! Fresh, flavorful, and filling. Everything we ordered was incredible The service was 5 star throughout our dining experience. Shortly after placing out our meal started arriving at our table. If you like sushi, you have to try this location, you will be blown away. The ambiance as well maintained, with a few unique places to serve as a backdrop for your Instagram, Yelp or Snapchat worthy pics. Great lunch special! $25 gets you miso soup, 5 piece Nigiri and a speciality roll. I grabbed the studio city roll and loved it- good contrast of textures and the truffle flavor wasn't overpowering. The nigiri was good, but the quality of some pieces wasn't the best in my opinion. Service was great and the place was clean.

Came here for happy hour with my partner. We got here at 2:50 told them we were here for happy hour she responded "it's at 3" which we knew but she seemed annoyed and then grabbed the menus and walked away. We ordered the Danny roll, salmon roll, gyoza and crispy shrimp I think tits called. They brought it out fairly quickly but no one ever came over to check on us. We flagged the waiter down to remind him they brought everything but the shrimp. The Danny roll was amazong( did not get pictures). The salmon roll had too much cream cheese otherwise was pretty tasty, I would return

Not only was the food so amazing you have to try the bake scallop roll. It was everything in a plate and more but the service was super amazing. I had a great time. The service was stupendous and I couldn't have asked for a way better staff. Thank you so much everyone for your hard work..

Used to go here for years when I worked in the area. And after stopping by today, it is still as good as I remember! Can't wait to come back. No food picture because I devoured it. Great customer service and love a business which keeps its quality throughout all these years. Great lunch specials.

I'm just leaving a random review because I f******* LOVE Sushi Dan. Just drove by it right now, and decided to spread some joy on their name. The vibes, the neon lights, talking to the chefs at the bar -- and the sushi, everything is on point. Always take dates there and friends from out of town. Even solo it's a blast. 50 stars

This Place Should Be Shut Down Easily one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had -- and I've eaten gas station sushi before. At least that came with a warning label. This place? Just false promises, loud music, and an overwhelming sense of "we don't care." Let's start with the service: nonexistent. No greeting, no smile, no confirmation of our order. They just slapped down random dishes like they were spinning a wheel in the back. Half of what we got wasn't even what we asked for -- and then they charged us for it. When we brought it up, they acted like we were making it up. No apology. No correction. Just blank stares and attitude. The music? Blasting at full volume like we stumbled into a failed DJ audition. I don't mind a vibe, but I came to eat sushi, not scream across the table like I'm at a rave in a strip mall. And the manager -- wow. Rude doesn't even begin to cover it. When we calmly tried to explain the issue, he immediately got defensive, talked over us, and essentially told us we were lucky to be eating there. Unreal. No ownership. No resolution. Just ego and arrogance. The food itself? Not even worth the drama. Sloppy rolls, flavorless rice, and fish that tasted like it had been sitting out since last week. If you're going to treat customers like garbage, at least serve something edible. Save yourself the stress. Go literally anywhere else. This place is a total scam with a side of spoiled tuna.

Such a good local spot! I've been here a handful of times now and the service has been great every time. This time we got the forbidden pleasure and hot night (their names are creative too, mostly related to the valley), and they did not disappoint! It's a good place to either meet with some friends or a casual date night. If you want a creative sushi spot that's also a local fav, try this place.

Sushi Dan is always great. Great food great ambience great service. One of the dishes I had tonight was the Rainbow Sashimi... its amazing! I highly recommend sushi Dan in the heart of Studio City.

Went for happy hour at 3. This place never disappoints. Service was quick. Food is always fresh and delicious. Beer was cold. Edamame was tasty what more could you ask for oh lemon and sriracha they have that too 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend

We have been going to this spot for years because we know everyone and the food is amazing! However, we had a pretty nagative experience today. We ordered oysters as an appetizer and our server, as she set the dish on the table, said she/they spit in all the oysters for more flavor. While we understand she was trying to make a joke, telling someone "we spit in you food for more flavor" before you eat it, is pretty unappetizing. Especially after what we spent there today. Not ok. Sadly, we will not be going back.

A very popular Japanese restaurant in Studio City. They offer not only top quality sushi but also delicious hot food from the kitchen. Lots of indoor and outside seating so still no wait even though it's busy. We decided to splurge when we had lunch here so we ordered various items for appetizer and miso soup. Then for main course we had two of Dan's Special namely: Baked Langostino $31.25 California rolls topped with baked langostino mixed with creamy dynamite sauce, mushrooms, masago, scallions, and eel sauce. Forbidden Pleasure $22 Shrimp tempura and spicy tuna inside, topped with salmon, crabmeat, red onions, tempura flakes, eel sauce, and spicy mayo. Both didn't disappoint as they were certainly delicious with wonderful flavors exploding in our mouth. The taste, presentation, and big portions justified the cost. I could have easily given 5 stars but I felt like customer service was a bit lackluster. We didn't see any smiling faces from beginning to end. No one checked on us so we had difficulty asking for water refill. I just hope it'll be a five star experience when I come back.

The meal for 5 people cost $244 before tax, plus tax of $23.18 and tip of $53.44 for a total of $330. However, they charge a tip before tax, which is wrong. I asked the waiter why they charge a tip before tax and what % the tip is. She said it was 18% and I told her , now you charged more than 20% and you still said 18%. She said she didn't know why she had to charge tips like this, and the receipt did not show the percentage of tips. I felt that this business was cheating customers.

My husband and I were hungry after a full day spent at Universal Studios and felt like having sushi so this location was the perfect find for us. The rest of our experience here besides location convenience was mediocre at best. PARKING was not great - the lot is small and shared with other businesses and it was full on a Sunday night. The street parking is sparse and many cars had a ticket on them because it's permit only after 6pm. SERVICE was pretty good. We were attended to right away and ordered items came out quickly. FOOD QUALITY was just ok, the roll we got was pretty good but the chirashi "bowl" fell flat. It didn't have much fish on it, didn't come in an actual bowl, and the price was hefty for what you actually get. It didn't come with any miso soup which usually at others places it does and we've had better chirashi bowls elsewhere for a smaller price. COST was steeper compared to other sushi spots and for what you get. I don't think we would return here - better options elsewhere.

I've been going to sushi Dan for years just in case you didn't know they call this part of Ventura sushi Alley. We usually come here after we drop off the rental car across the street so convenient So good, so delicious. #5Stars.

It's been over 4 years since we've been here and this place is STILL amazing. We came on a Friday night during happy hour and we were not disappointed. We got the Bulefin tuna sashimi and it was so good, we ordered it twice. We also go the forbidden passion and all star roll. No regrets. This is the place is our forever go to when we're in this area. Simona was our waitress, and she was lovely and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food is so so so good. The service is amazing and the employees are some of the kindest people.I've been going since I moved to LA and the restaurant just feel like home now.The interior is so pretty. I would definitely recommend the shrimp tempura roll it's 10/10 amazing.

My favorite sushi spot. Best baked longostino roll. Best Halibut caparcio . Baked lobster is great. I come here often and this place never disappoints. No reservations needed. Just walk in.

I'm obsessed with this place. Been coming for years. The staff has always been incredibly friendly, even through multiple changes in management. The garlic hamachi (pictured), is a standout appetizer for me. Along with their spicy edamame - a dish that varied greatly at different sushi spots, but this one is top notch. So fresh! Also, ask for the "great white roll". You can consider it a secret menu item. It used to be on the menu, but even still, if you're lucky, they may still make it for you sometimes! Worth the ask.

I was in Studio City, tons of places to eat. I wanted sushi so Yelp app came up with 2 highly rated places so I flipped a coin. This is located in a small strip mall. It is very clean. May have trouble finding a place to park. This place has Happy Hour on Saturday and we happen to go at the right time. Vegetable tempura, batter very nice. Rainbow roll Beautiful roll with Ahi and I think salmon. A work of art, has a flower. Yellowtail Scallion Roll This was exceptional, did not look like much but so tasty. This is the best bang for the buck. Crunch Roll shrimp tempura, avocado, crab meat topped with tempura flakes and eel sauce. Very good. Fish very fresh, rice texture perfect on all the rolls. Filtered water. Service very good. This place is a find.

Pretty good sushi and decent pricing, we got take out and they made the order really fast. The forbidden pleasure roll was my favorite. Crispy tuna wasn't exactly crispy but maybe that was from being in the box with some other warm rolls. I think the salmon roll had cream cheese in it and I wasn't a fan of that. I would try this place again but would dine in since the rolls didn't travel so well.

Called ahead and placed an order for pick-up. Strike 1: They want your credit card information over the phone for an order under $50. Strike 2. We had to wait over 20 minutes even though we arrived when they told us to. Strike 3: They charge you a 10% take out fee because "they got recyclable takeout packaging." I'm a regular at this place, it's close to me, but these newer changes will have me looking for another spot. It's insane to charge customers for your packaging choices.

I do love me some Sushi Dan! However there seems to be a few consistent things I've noticed. One thing I have noticed for a few visits is that their Salmon is always severely fishy. It is very off putting. I have ordered one spicy salmon cut roll every time I go and then I say to myself, "oh yeah, the salmon is fishy here." Another thing is that the water cups are always dirty. And when you taste the water it always has a flavor of tempura. And every time I go I say to myself, "oh yeah, the water is fried here." On the plus side, the service is quick and the servers are always efficient and kind. I would suggest the Crazy Dani Roll and a bottled beer here. Still definitely worth a try! But sit outside because inside you end up leaving smelling as if you worked the fryer all night.

Nestled in the busy street of Studio City, this place is notable for group dining. It's so popular that a group of deputies from LA County Sheriff was dining during my visit. I love law enforcement officers, but dining in close proximity and ordering a beer made me doubt if it was worth the trouble. That thought of having them pulling me over for a DUI (I swear, officer, it was one drink) would not be an enjoyable evening. HAPPY HOUR MENU: MONK FISH LIVER (ANKIMO): The delicacy came in four slices, and the texture was rich and buttery, similar to foie gras. It is mixed with ponzu sauce, chopped scallions, and masago. BAKED SALMON ROLL(Cream Cheese, Gobo, Avocado inside Masago, Scallions, salmon on top with dynamite sauce and eel sauce) Another item from their happy hour menu. Excellent choice for salmon lovers. Since the roll was drizzled in eel sauce, there is no need to dip it in soy sauce unless you're that person who dips everything and anything. CRAZY DANNY ROLL (Spicy Tuna, Avocado, Whole roll deep fried with eel sauce) - This roll was also on their Happy Hour menu. I was surprised by the massive size. Rather than having it small and long, this roll was large and compact. Super delicious, as this was my favorite dish from their Happy Hour menu. After the Happy Hour ended, we ordered something upscale. The posting was on the wall, and similar to an omakase, the order came with six Chef's Selections, a light appetizer, and Matcha Ice Cream. For the price under $100, this dish was AMAZING. The sushi (Toro, Tuna, Salmon, Red Snapper, Uni, and a mixed roll) was presented in a neat square box of six. Overall, I had a great experience at Sushi Dan and would return for more.

Service and waiters were great but the food is not good enough for the price. I can get the same quality of food (or better) for much cheaper at a place like sushi stop.

Dollar for dollar the best overall value for sushi. Good sized portions, and excellently flavored creative dishes, the premium rolls are truly "premium" and the sashimi is fresh and delicious.

Came thru the other night during happy hour for an early birthday dinner celebration after having not been here in years and they have not missed a step. We ordered the garlic edamame, several hand rolls, sake, the studio city roll, the crouching tiger and various other items on the menu and everything was excellent but most importantly the service. I wish I still lived in the area so I could come here more often but I will definitely be making the trip back again soon. Thank you for an excellent evening and your amazing service!

I absolutely love this restaurant. The people are so welcoming. The food is always so fresh and delicious. Overall the atmosphere in this place is such a vibe. I've brought my friends, family, clients and solo dine regularly. It's just the best!
