Where to Dine Solo in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"This casual sushi restaurant (with another location in Kearny Mesa) draws crowds for miles, and especially if you’re traveling light — solo, that is — it’s an easy spot to pop in, devour a roll or two, and take off."

We’ve been coming to Sushi Deli 1 for about a year now, and it’s become one of our go-to spots in Hillcrest. For the price point, the quality is consistently great and the menu is surprisingly broad — there’s always something new to try. Our favorites are the Lemon Pepper Edamame, Coco Loco, Sunkissed Roll, Motion of the Ocean, and Island Breeze Roll. Parking can be tricky, so we usually leave the car at our gym a couple blocks away and walk over. On the rare occasions there’s a wait, we just pop into the bar a few doors down until our table’s ready — easy fix. Service is fast and efficient, even when it’s busy, and the staff keeps things moving smoothly. I also love that they switch things up with specials like Taco Tuesday and limited-time rolls you can’t get anywhere else. For a casual sushi spot that delivers value, variety, and consistency every time — Sushi Deli 1 nails it.

Google
I think there may be a misunderstanding what this place is. It is not a sushi bar, it is an American bar that serves sushi rolls and… tacos and some other stuff. So, depending on what you think it is you may be happy or greatly disappointed. Let’s first look from American bar perspective - good selection of tap beers. Tacos and other stuff on the menu. Large selection of American sushi rolls, and sets, large portions, pretty affordable, staff trained to ask “how you are doing” all the time, cleanness level of a dive bar. Second, let’s look from a sushi restaurant perspective - the key to good sushi is rice preparation. This one is a fail. Nigiri was a a dense ball of rise clogging your mouth. I would suggest the owners to send their chefs for a professional sushi rice preparation training. Fish was fresh indeed, but that is given if you want to serve sushi. One major issue. The place is dirty. There is a layer of dust on the booths. The baby booster we were given, basics glued to my hands with its oily surface. Similarly the tables were wiped but still sticky. Suggestion to owners is to sometimes run a finger across the flat surfaces and see what’s left on the finger.

Really good value for your money ! Large menu and great sushi!

Google
I had an absolutely outstanding experience at this sushi restaurant. The food was incredibly fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor, easily some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. I also want to highlight the exceptional service from Sasha W. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming throughout my visit. Her professionalism stood out, and her warm presence made the dining experience even better. She carries herself with such grace and confidence, and she’s truly beautiful in a professional and elegant way. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending this place to friends. A truly top-notch experience from start to finish! P.S. Sasha W’s service was so impeccable I will be asking for her hand in marriage and take her last name.

Google
Look at this beautiful avocado art that Sushi Deli made for me today!! What an amazing surprise! Everyone working there is so nice, the menu has tons of innovative options and the food is always yummy!

Google
Sushi Deli is always a solid choice! Fast service, good food, and plenty of affordable options. Great spot for a quick bite without breaking the bank.

Google
Very fresh sushi.. fast serve actually very very fast serve. The food will be there within minutes.. the rolls are big portions and the restaurant has offers for each month that are so good and fulfilling . Honestly one of the best and affordable sushi places

Google
Very good! Was especially impressed with the loaded fries... sushi was perfect. Service and atmosphere top notch. Go there. You won't be disappointed. Will be back! Had a blast!

Yelp
We discovered Sushi Deli 1 about a year ago, and it's quietly become one of our favorite neighborhood spots. It's reliable, affordable, and surprisingly creative for a casual sushi joint. We've tried a ton from the menu, but the standouts for us are the Lemon Pepper Edamame, Coco Loco, Sunkissed, Motion of the Ocean, and Island Breeze Roll. Every roll feels fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully made. They also keep things fun with rotating promotions and themed nights -- their Taco Tuesday is clever. The vibe is lively, and while the servers aren't overly chatty, they're consistent. We usually park a couple blocks away near our gym since there's no parking, and if there's ever a wait, we just grab a drink at the bar two doors down until our table's ready. Nothing fancy, just great food, fair prices, and an easy local feel. It's the kind of spot you keep coming back to because it never disappoints.

Yelp
Haven't been in awhile! Always a fun easy go to for good sushi. Sat at the bar which was a first for us. Great service. Ordered "the special" Which was 2 rolls and they accommodated change so wanted on a different roll. "The San Diego" Food was good, just relaxing, good vibe inside. Won't wait so long to come back.

Yelp
This place for the prices consistently is well worth coming here the sushi is good in some cases better then a couple of high end places I have tried. Staff very nice as well. Suggestion your poke bowl I wish you can substitute tomatoes for edamame- tomatoes don't belong

Yelp
The sushi here is very good, and the prices can't be beat. I can't believe I never discovered this place during college. I came here with an old friend from college and we loved their menu - they have a huge variety of sushi and appetizers and you can order however much or little you are feeling that way. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
This is always my go to spot when I want Sushi, and they never fail to satisfy my sushi craving. I went on a hungry stomach and ordered too much. I had the miso soup which is a must. I ordered garlic wings and of course a shrimp tempura sushi roll. So good ya'll! The service was phenomenal upon entrance. Our waitress was genuinely kind and was very attentive to us, which made the experience even better. The vibe inside is warming and cozy yet hip and fun. Never disappoints, which is why I frequent this restaurant often.

Yelp
If you like rolls with cream cheese you'll love this place. Unfortunately, I do not and as I was splitting the order with someone didn't realize over half the rolls in the samplers all had them! They weren't bad but it just wasn't something I enjoy. Service was okay; they were really confused about the sake and prices and the menu. Bathrooms were unfortunately wrecked while we were there. (Someone had #2 on the toilet seat and there were paper towels that had been used to wipe open in the trash can. Not their fault but oh my goodness). Parking was street meter - we got lucky but be prepped to drive around a bit if it's a busy time of day. All in all I don't think this is the spot for me but I can see why people like it so it would still get my recommendation.

Yelp
I ordered this from DoorDash so can't speak too much for the actual restaurant itself, but for the price and the quality of what we got, I am pleased. The sushi was tasty and we received a lot for how much we paid. Perfect for an affordable and quick meal, without sacrificing taste.

Yelp
Went here on Valentine's Day weekend and they had a special called the "third wheel". We both ordered that. It was a roll and a beverage. I got the rainbow roll and hubby got something spicy. Our drinks were a plum wine and a beer. You can probably guess who got what on that. It was a beautiful day outside and we got to sit by the window. Service was friendly and terrific. Love this place as one of my "go to" places in San Diego.

Yelp
I love Sushi Deli 1, this is my go-to sushi spot. I have been coming here for a couple of years and it's been consistently pleasant. Here is everything I got today: - Carnitas Egg Roll, 7/10 : These are okay. They aren't my favorite but others seem to really enjoy them. The warm avocado kind of throws me off. However, it comes with an amazing spicy mayo dip. - Shrimp Tempura, 9.5/10 : You can never go wrong with these! Perfectly crispy and tasty. - Mussel Dynamite, 10/10 : These are going to be my new staple when I come here. The mussels are huge! And the spicy mayo is just wonderful with it. Wow. - Motion in the ocean, 9.5/10 : Today was my first time trying this roll and I love it. It is full of flavor. I didn't even have to dip it in soy sauce. Although I loved the food and the service for the most part, I have a couple of comments. Firstly, when we first came in to be seated the hostess said we would need to wait for 15-20 minutes. However there was this table right in front of us (I included a picture). When I asked about it, the hostess said that they don't seat people there and it's a fire hazard? It didn't really make sense why it was even there. It ended being a really short wait and a table was ready for us within five minutes. Also, throughout the entire meal, the waiter failed to remove straw wrappers and empty plates. This doesn't bother me too much but it would've been nice to have a clear table.

Yelp
Overall decent experience. Nothing special. The employees are beyond welcoming and very polite. Hard to give this place a low rating but it's just not what it is. Sushi was actually pretty good but some areas were empty or lacked some ingredients. Also the price was very reasonable but due to the inconsistency of the rolls, felt off. Plenty of seating and definitely not too bad of a wait on a Thursday. Lots of the sushi was great, beer was a little flat. Just too many inconsistencies. But I will return!

Yelp
You get what you pay for! Everything here is super inexpensive, however, the quality reflects that. Miso Soup -- I've never seen anyone put tempura in their miso. At first I thought it was cool until all I could taste was tempura chunks and green onions. You couldn't get much of the actual broth & flavor. Crab Lagoon -- It was basically imitation crab + green onions. I personally felt like it needed cream cheese + other seasonings. Shogun Special -- $19 for a rainbow roll + 5 nigiri The thought of this special for the price is great, however, the quality wasn't. The fish on the rainbow roll was cut SUPER thin. (My boyfriend got a different sushi set that came with the same roll and his fish on top was thicker) The quality of the tuna on both the nigiri and roll were questionable -- it was a light pink color. The salmon nigiri tasted fine, but visually you couldn't tell it wasn't the best quality. April Sushi Special -- The Crunchy Bunny really surprised us. It had a great flavor. The Caterpillar Roll was decent. The eel in it was pretty thin and slightly fishy. The rainbow roll and spicy tuna were standard. This was our first time at this location. They have a decent amount of tables. Waited about 30 minutes on a Wednesday night. Our server, Jose, was super friendly. I haven't been to Sushi Deli in years. I used to frequent the Armour location when I was a teen and on a budget. People will be drawn to the prices, but I do recommend spending a little more to get a little more.

Yelp
I ordered in as my to go sushi place is closed on Sundays. I ordered shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura and monkey brain. It was just ok. Veggies cut roughly and the monkey brain could have more sauce.
google avatar

Cathy G.

Yelp
The quality and value continue to hold. I am surprised they don't have better scores. The chicken teriyaki bento of the month was tasty and filling with a nice variety of items. The miso soup has tempura crunchies on top which makes it extra savory. I also enjoyed the new sushi roll, Sunset Cliffs. It was spicy and a little sweet from the fresh mango. They also have lunch time specials that rotate through the week, which are also an excellent value. Good and friendly service as well.

Jamie D.

Yelp
Food is pretty solid, especially for the price point. Every once in awhile I'll get a loose roll but ingredients are fresh (except for the ginger) and the flavors are good. Here's where they could do better: - Lately they have been using flimsy paper lids on the miso soup in a plastic bag. It inevitably spills and disintegrates after about 15 minutes which is how long it takes for me to pick up my food and drive it home. They switched to tight-fitting lids for a few weeks. It was glorious! But short lived. - A few times I wasn't able get through by phone (busy signal); I mentioned it when placing my order in-person and staff told me it was intentionally unplugged. This happens every few weeks. - Ginger isn't complementary with all rolls so I pay extra for it. Most of the time it's old, it has started to brown clearly has been sitting on a shelf for a while. But sometimes it's fresh and tasty. So unpredictable.

Yelp
10/10 it was so delicious and very affordable!! Our server Christian I believe his name was, so friendly and gave great suggestions!! Check out their monthly special rolls!! The Carnitas Eggrolls were good but slightly underwhelming... they could be a lot more flavorful and there's only one piece meat but it's still good, everything was good!

Yelp
We visited on a weekday night as a group of four and were able to walk in and get seating without any wait. The food was fantastic! We ordered a variety of sushi to share around the table, and everything was so delicious that I completely forgot to take any pictures. Is it an authentic sushi spot? Probably not, but it's still amazing and perfect for those who might be a little hesitant about trying sushi. The service was excellent--friendly and attentive. No complaints at all.
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
Jose went above and beyond with his service. He was extremely knowledgeable on the entire menu and recommended the best apps and rolls! Absolutely love this spot. The most reasonably priced sushi while still amazing quality. Will be coming back, not just for the great food but the service was unforgettable. Thank you so much Jose!

Yelp
*They have Dinner deals *Lunch specials *happy hour Mon- Thu 5PM-6:30PM * happy hour FR-Sat 2PM-4PM * drink specials * sushi combo deals * casual ambience * friendly customer service We came in on a Friday surprisingly not to busy we got seated right away. We had appetizers, some rolls and drinks For a descent price. The lime time was delicious as well as the San Diego roll. They also have drink combos pretty cool however we notice the Sapporo beer comes open and as we served it had way to foam my husband thought it had a flat flavor he questioned if that came from bottle or if it was Tap? Either way We love coming here and we will definitely be back!

Natalie M.

Yelp
We came here on a very busy Saturday night and although we were quoted 40 minutes, they got us in super fast! We of course, came here for the green onion, fried miso soup, but ended up sharing so many other good things! Maria our server specifically made our visit so great! She was super attentive and so calm and helpful. It was refreshing to have service above and beyond! We can't wait to be back and hope to sit in her section again soon!

Yelp
Good price Fast service Meh sushi, kinda bland Fell apart a tad too easily Lots of options Big place Very popular

Yelp
A solid lunch option! Especially if you like bento boxes. The sushi is mid tier but very well priced. Menu is easily found on the website (and it's up to date!) Lunch bento boxes run $10.99 and includes a drink, miso, and a huge bento box. It is huge. There is also a rotating set monthly sushi with halves of 4 types of sushi for $15 which is a great deal! It can get busy sometimes with a wait out the door, so get there early! Service is great. They also have a HH as well.
google avatar

Angela R.

Yelp
Food was great but horrible service the waiters are just standing around chatting, you ask them to bring you something and don't bring it. Really sucks cause food was great but not the service !!!
google avatar

Marcus B.

Yelp
Amazing sushi spot for a quick & delicious lunch! PROs: Easy to walk to or park near. I was immediately seated, greeted and had my beverage within 90 seconds of walking in. I placed my food order and had some of the bet Miso soup I've ever had within 3 minutes of walking in. I had the Bento Box special and it didn't disappoint. It was also very good. There is plenty of seating, near decorations, and the bathroom was clean. My server Madilyn was also a Rockstar! CONs: None
google avatar

Curt T.

Yelp
This location is Definetly better than the Kearney Mesa location. Decent sushi if on a budget and good value. Not as fresh and delicious as other places but for more than half the cost it's worth it. Service tonight was a little lackluster. The server kept running away to get something and then would come back without it. They were busy so that could be part of it. Lots of indoor seating
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Although I prefer the other Sushi Deli location (parking is easier, in my opinion) this location is just as awesome! Great prices for great tasting food and it comes out quick! Service is not that attentive (I think a lot of the servers here are new) but you don't really need a lot of fixes when it comes to sushi, so I think that's fine! They're typically quite busy around dinner, especially on the weekends, so I recommend that you come right when they open. It also can get loud in here sometimes! So people with sensory issues regarding sound be aware of that.
google avatar

James K.

Yelp
Came here as I was working in the area. The fish was fresh and the service was great. It's a chill spot and wasn't crazy busy for lunch but busy enough so you know they don't suck Hahha. I'd definitely come back!
google avatar

Kevin Z.

Yelp
I wouldn't say this is the most authentic place, but for its price the food is an amazing deal. The sushi is fresh and I got 16 pieces of specialty roll for $12! Service was nice too and they seem to have a good happy hour.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Best happy hour in town!! Literally the best staff, freshest fish with cold beer. It's on our weekly rotation living in mission hills

Jose L.

Yelp
Quality and portions have really gone down recently. I ordered the monthly bento box and I was surprised to see how small the portions of everything were. I mean, for sliced chicken thigh, rice salad, tempura vegetables, like COME ON NOW. I rather go pay a couple dollars more for a normal sized bento box. Sushi rolls were tiny and extremely small portion of fish. Yup.....After coming here for over 15 years, NOT coming here again.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
I had a pretty decent lunch here. It's decent for a variety of reasons. 1. Because the price won't cost you an arm and a leg. 2. There's a ton of options on the menu 3. The menu changes each month to reflect what's happening with the seasons or holidays 4. It's never overly busy but just a good amount of foot traffic to make you feel like this is a decent spot to stop. 5. Service is quick. I spend just about a hour here or less each time. There are things however that won't ever make this spot more than a 3. 1. Although there are a ton of sushi options. I feel like most of them revolves around salmon or tempura. I'd love some more variety there. 2. Although the staff is nice. We repeatedly spoke Spanish to our waitstaff. Since it's our native tongue. And they responded back to us in English. But then we heard them speak Spanish to everyone around us. 3. The ambience is okay. Nothing too spectacular. I do like the back wall which had bamboo on it. 4. The food was decent. It was good for the price we paid but if it was a dollar or two more. I would have given this place a two star. We had the miso soup, monkey brains appetizer, shipwreck roll, and the motion in the ocean roll. Monkey brain was my favorite out of all of them. The rolls I ordered, I probably wouldn't order again. I didn't really care for them. After two or three of each, I pretty much got the point. It wasn't a strong profile or unique taste. But after finishing a roll and two appetizers, I did feel satisfied. 3 stars no more no less. For 40 bucks, it was a decent lunch and im certain that I could have found much worse places to head to.
google avatar

Chrissy C.

Yelp
Updating my previous review to drop a star for service. Food is still great, including the gluten free options, and the ambiance is still very cool. Unfortunately, service is hit and miss. As soon as I see which server I've been given, I know if it's going to be a disaster. Some of them AVOID EYE CONTACT when drinks are empty. They will walk by six times and never look up, like seeing an ex out in public. Even worse are the ones who disappear. The longest I waited was 25 minutes for my check before I begged the awesome bartender to put me out of my misery by grabbing my check. I truly love this place. And the service can be extremely slow and inattentive. The rolls also sometimes come out wrong, so I always check first...
google avatar

Mat M.

Yelp
What a cool spot! I've never seen anything like it where I'm from on the east coast. The shop felt like a pizza or burger joint, it didn't have the usual Asian restaurant feel that most sushi places have. Katy, the bartender was so friendly! There were 10 beers on top and the happy hour deal put the price of a beer to $4.50! What!? I ordered a rainbow roll and a hot hot roll. Everything was super fresh. The rainbow roll was delicious and beautifully presented. The outside of the roll alternated pieces of salmon, tuna, and avo sashimi style to create an alternating color "rainbow" pattern. It was a neat detail to an already great bite. The hot hot was fairly mild and tasty, would definitely order again.
google avatar

Eden S.

Yelp
It's always busy given the affordability of the menu. Food is great but not amazing. Service is fine, they check on you adequately even tho they almost charged us twice for a drink we'd gotten once. I definitely recommend the curry over the rolls. Portion was generous and chicken was very crispy and flavorful and the sauce had a nice kick.
google avatar

Calina N.

Yelp
I came here for a date night! And now it is probably one of my new favorite sushi places! The service is amazing and they have so many awesome Japanese options for a such a good price! These days most sushi places charge 15+ for one roll but the most expensive here I saw was less than that! Most rolls were about 10-11 dollars. They also have a ton of specials (one almost everyday) their monthly special was amazing. You get 4 samplers of 4 different rolls and a miso soup for $14.50! I was so full from it I had to take some home. Personally, they also have the best miso soup I have ever tasted! It wasn't too salty and I love how they put tempura flakes in it! My favorite rolls that I would come back for is the San Diego roll and the Hot Hot Pearl (baked scallop roll).
google avatar

Zuli M.

Yelp
An iconic SD sushi staple. Delicious food. Great service. Affordable price. A classic that you could never go wrong with. Came in with a group of 10. The hosts all did their best to get us in fairly quickly, which was insanely appreciated since we were starving! Each roll was so good and flavorful. The fish tasted fresh and good quality. Someone from my group did order ramen and said it was "mid" so that's good to know.

Yelp
I met up with a friend recently on a Monday evening for dinner. She suggested Sushi Deli. I have been to a different sushi deli once, many years ago, buy never this location. We met up just before 6:00. When we arrived, the place was bustling, but they had space and we were quickly greeted. I was looking forward to wine or cocktails, but learned quickly that they don't have a full liquor license, so I asked for wine. I was offered red, white, or plum... which me is a good reason to skip the wine order. I ended up drinking the house nigori, which was just OK. If you like beer, it is probably a decent place to drink. The menu is huge. Unfortunately, most items were fried or creamy rolls, which are just not my favorite. I could have ordered the sashimi to avoid that, but wanted to share with my friend, so we ordered the four by four, four pieces of four types of a sushi roll. We chose that because it didn't have anything fried. It was OK. Usually, I eat all of my sushi and want more, but it just wasn't interesting, so we left some on the plate. The miso soup was pretty good. Honestly, I didn't eat much that eventing. I do want to say that the service was excellent. Our server came by regularly, and my water was regularly filled. Unfortunately, I really didn't care for the food or drinks. People talk about this place for cheap sushi, but I guess this is an example of getting what you pay for. I don't plan to return.

Yelp
Quick service and a decent selection of Vegeterian sushi rolls. Shauna rolls are great but please bring back the sunshine roll. We miss it!
google avatar

Daniella S.

Yelp
This place is great for sushi dinner. Affordable and delicious, they always have happy hour deals as well, different days of the week. The service is always great. I like the rolls with lemon and yellowtail are my go too.
google avatar

Christine R.

Yelp
So good I forgot to take a photo of any of the food! Sushi was fresh, service was friendly, cute vibe, and the variety of food was really unique. I was really surprised at how fair the prices were, seems like an even better happy hour. I will absolutely be back!
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Where to start...! This is by far the best location/best casual sushi restaurant in San Diego. The wait staff are on point every time I come here! I live in the neighborhood, and I brought my partner here for our first date... We have now created a bi weekly routine coming back for a sushi. Garlic Shishito peppers, and a large drink special are the first thing to check off for our order! They are having a two for one sake special until February 29, 2024 ! Triple threat is my favorite role... It covers all bases and if you haven't tried it yet, you must try it ! My partners favorite role is hot, hot pearl, but only because I introduced her to the hot hot Shana first 10 out of 10 stars for sushi deli... I will wear their 40th anniversary shirt proudly (the one I earned with their 2023 stamp card raffle lol)
google avatar

Liz A.

Yelp
This location is my all time favorite! They're currently celebrating their 40th year anniversary and I'm so glad this place is still here! You can't go wrong with Sushi Deli. They have great tasting food, plenty of seating, friendly staff and the music is always good. We never have to wait too long for a table, if anything parking is what takes longer to find in the area but that's Hillcrest. I love their monthly specials because you get 4 different rolls for the price of one and never feel like you're missing out. My son loved the sushi deli fries and how fast they got our food out. Always a great spot for date night or a bite out with the family.

Yelp
DO NOT GO HERE!!! Honestly at this point it's too late! I feel like so many people know about sushi Deli because this place is hands down the best sushi spot in San Diego! And if you disagree fight me! Honestly I've been going to sushi deli since 2006(sushi deli2 on Broadway) when I was a senior in high school and haven't stopped since! It's the most consistent all around sushi spot you can find, challenge me on that... it's has fresh ingredients and good rice for the rolls and it has some top secret items! Like the garlic Garlic Edamame!!! ITS ALL IN THE SAUCE! They held the record for the best garlic eddema you can find at a sushi spot!! They are the only ones with this sauce!! Order extra and pour on everything!!!! I don't care if it was $5 for a small amount it's so worth it!!!! And if you drink don't get me started!!! Sake Sapporo combo! You can keep it going all night and barely break the bank!! All in all Sushi deli is the only spot that they could raise the prices but the way don't but they could because of how good the sushi is!! I only have one complaint!!!! BRING BACK THE MO's ROLL!!!! This was the most iconic roll that ever hit the menu, I was in tears when they took it off! If you know you know if you don't stay ignorant! I love you sushi deli!

Lina R.

Yelp
It has been awhile since my family and I have been here , from the moment we walk in we were greeted and sat pretty quickly, we had perfect timing today since we had no wait ! Our food was order and came out quickly so that was a plus! Everything taste delicious I got the bento box and garlic chicken wings so delicious The only downfall I would say is the waitress shift was over and she didn't say hey like my shift is done and so and so will help you with anything! So we needed refills on our drink since they sat there empty for awhile so in the future just say hey my shift is over and so and So Will take over other than that everything was great

Yelp
Sushi Deli 3 is my usual location, but happened to be working close to this one. Sushi Deli is where I began my love for Sushi. It continues to be my favorite, maybe due to nostalgia but always good. The best? No, but pretty good. It was good enough for me to want to try others.

Yelp
As a busy person I can only order takeout, I decided to try this location since I always go to the one in Kearny (that's a 5 star, people should ditch this location and go to Kearny) I'm greeted with a rude hostess I asked him I wanted to order takeout and he just said "oh okay" nothing else, so I just said I would like to order something to what he said "oh no I don't take orders, you have to ask someone else" and headed to the people on the register, now I'm greeted with a girl that had a nasty attitude and wouldn't speak up (there's a lot of ambient noise) no eye contact, lack of respect and sluggish mannerism, I told her what I wanted to order and she just grabbed the receipt where you have to write a tip amount, tossed it on the counter and left (she's not busy, she was standing there the entire time) so I had to write 2 big 0's on it, I had to wait until she came back to ask when or how would I know my order will be ready, she just said "25 mins" and left. I'm waiting to try the food from this location, Kearny never fails but I don't have high expectations for this location... If you don't want to be at work and you're only going to have a nasty attitude just stay home, places like this need to hire the right people! (I work customer service as well and I know what it is to put up with people but come one, staff at this place is ridiculous) kitchen staff were definitely working their *** off, there was a TON of plates waiting to be served but they were just sitting on the bar! Is it so hard to find decent servers and cashiers ? The jack in the box next door has better service! *update* I came back inside to grab my order, I told the girl my name for my order and she grabs it, hands it to me and then pulls it away and goes "you didn't pay" after she swiped my card 3 times earlier when I ordered, I told her exactly that "yes I did, you swiped my card 3 times" and she just leaves with my food then comes back and didn't say anything just gives it to me and leaves... Not coming back here again Name on the receipt for cashier says Giselle, not sure if that's her as they don't wear name tags.

Yelp
Overall, I'd say this is a very average casual sushi place. I can tell the fish quality is not the best. I always get miso as a starter and it was a bit bland. They have a nice variety of rolls but many of them had more filler ingredients than fish. But we did enjoy the rolls we got! We got the Tourmaline, Sunkissed, and Fire Fire. We liked the flavors of these, with fresh lemon and/or dynamite sauce. We also ordered a few salmon sashimi and the salmon looked super lean, lacking the white lines that makes salmon buttery and rich. The wait was shorter than expected (they told us 25 min, but we got sat within 15). Staff was super nice and accommodating, which saved my dining experience. Overall, they have a vast menu and looks like some great deals for combos and bento boxes! I think I would try those next time :)
