I've been craving sushi so bad this week since getting home from my trip. I do have a favorite spot, but didn't feel like driving so far and I'm always down to try some place new. I came across Sushi Doraku and decided I'd give them a try, which worked out great since I had other things to do in the area. The shopping center it's in tends to really be chaotic depending on time and day, lunch time is definitely a hot mess. I had to park pretty far out in my truck and was nearly hit a few times walking to the restaurant by impatient speeders whipping through the lot. It is a very small location with a couple small tables outside. Once inside I was greeted right away and told I could choose where to sit, given some menus and drink order taken. I noticed right away that the decor, paint on the walls could use some touching up. While not the best to look at I was more concerned with if the sushi was good or not. From most of the reviews I was confident it would be. I asked the waiter a few questions about the spicy roll options and decided to try out the Spicy Garden Doll as well as your basic California Roll and their edamame offered on their yelp check in for half off. There were two sushi chefs working so it came out quickly. Edamame was salted well and delicious. Both rolls looked great, but the Spicy Garden Roll almost looked to beautiful to eat...who am I kidding? I went to town ha ha . The waiter had said it was spicy, but not as spicy as a few others. He was right I'm sure there are hotter ones, but this one did have quite the kick. It was delicious. I'm not a huge fan on California Rolls..to plain for me, but this one had great crunch and tasted fresh. Hands down the Spicy Garden was my favorite though with spicy tuna, avocado, shrimp tempura, tuna, cilantro and jalepeno with special sauce. The temperature of the sushi was good as well. I don't like when sushi is overly warm, it was not super cold but just the right temp. Service was good and I never had to ask for anything. Location was clean. They also have happy hour pricing before 2pm on quite a bit of items. I'd come back again when in the area just to try more of the specialty rolls.
