Sushi Ginza Onodera Toryumon

This is my second visit to Tokyo, and on every trip I come to this sushi restaurant at least twice. It’s truly delicious, and honestly, I almost want to keep it as my own hidden gem. True to its name, which represents a gateway for training master craftsmen, every piece of sushi is prepared with genuine dedication and craftsmanship. The chefs and staff are always incredibly kind and attentive, consistently delivering the best possible flavors and experience. While affordable conveyor-belt sushi can be enjoyable in Tokyo, I highly recommend experiencing sushi made with this level of freshness and true artisanal spirit. Thank you for always giving me such wonderful memories in Japan.

TAKE YOUR TICKETS FOR SEATING. I was a walk-in customer on a Sunday evening at 6:30pm. I took a ticket in the ticket machine inside the shop and had 1.5 hours waiting time, so I went shopping to make good use of the time. I came back for my meal when I received confirmation to say ‘please head to the shop’ This is a very affordable sushi standing bar with fresh ingredients. I recommend to take your meal ticket around 5pm if you wanted to dine around 7pm. I had 10 single sushi for the price around 5700yen

Entry requires a numbered ticket, there’s no reservations, and since it’s a standing sushi bar, seating is limited to the counter. Come early to grab a ticket for que and go shopping at Ginza Six and come back later when your place is ready. Your wait time is updated and you will get notification. Ordering is done via a web app by scanning a QR code with your smartphone—a very easy and efficient system. Omakase high-quality fish and the taste was absolutely delish. The price, was reasonable and affordable for the fresh fish and our chef always gave me the nice and big cut of fish !!! 😉

This is a standing only place. You enter in your party number and get a ticket. They call you in and assign you to a spot. Scan the qr code and order directly from the site. The food is great and there is match powder and hot water available at each station, which is very nice. My biggest complaint is that it is somewhat unpredictable when you will get your food and in what order the pieces will be served. It's also difficult to know whether you have received all of your order or if there is still more coming unless you are paying close attention to what you have already eaten. I also think that, although the flavors were excellent, the onigiri rice would easily fall apart and you often end up losing some of it on the plate.

Very hole in the wall type of place but serving excellent quality fish and shellfish Nigiri pieces. Ordering is made easy and accessible by using their online ordering system by scanning a QR code. Warm, quaint and local atmosphere. Nigiri 10/10, service 10/10. Highly recommend after a day of walking around Ginza.

Not sure why people rate this place highly. We came in the evening, there was no line. We were let in after 10 min or so. We didn't mind standing and eating, because we didn't think we would order that much. It was pretty nice weather outside and inside was freezing. The kitchen had 3 people - only one was mainly making hand rolls. The nigiri came out pretty quickly - the fish was fresh and delicious, but not of outstanding quality compared to other places in Japan. The rice was cold-ish, not soft and nice like in a good sushi restaurant. The hand rolls took forever. We only ordered 3. Waited over 40 min. We felt all the locals are getting better treatment (maybe they didn't order hand rolls at all, hence the better pace). After 40 min, standing and freezing, we got all rolls, but still were missing one nigiri for unknown reason. Honestly, we had no interest in waiting more and asked to cancel it. Pass. 3 stars because fish is quiet good, not outstanding though.

Tōryūmon is designed as a training ground for young sushi chefs, meaning the sushi is prepared by apprentices still honing their craft. Because of this, the prices are significantly more affordable compared to the main location, where dinner courses start at ¥25,000 and up. Entry requires a numbered ticket, distributed via a ticket machine at 3:00 PM, with service starting at 4:00 PM. There’s no reservations, and since it’s a standing sushi bar, seating is limited to the counter. Ordering is done via a web app by scanning a QR code with your smartphone—a smooth and modern system. Despite being a training-focused branch, they use the same high-quality fish as the flagship store, and the taste was absolutely on point. Considering the price, it felt like an incredible deal! If you’re looking for premium Ginza sushi without breaking the bank, this is the spot. Onodera also has a conveyor belt sushi branch in Ginza and other locations across Tokyo, so I’m definitely planning to check those out next time. Check out the photos for more details!

I arrived at around 3:50 pm and queued for about 10 minutes, receiving a ticket for the 6:00 pm seating. Walk-ins are also possible. The ingredients were extremely fresh, but since it’s a standing sushi bar, it can get a bit tiring after a while.
