Google
Very calm atmosphere and an upscale interior. The staff were very attentive and kept our water glasses filled. Our waitress noticed we did not bring alcohol (it is BYOB) and offered us complimentary rice wine. The sushi rolls were prepared quickly and very tasteful. They have a unique yet traditional selection of food, many items that you may not find at a typical sushi restaurant. The miso soup was the best I’d ever had!

Bernie M.

Google
My wife and I are thrilled to have a great sushi restaurant so close! We’re big on innovative restaurants and Sushi Hatsu delivers big on variety and flavors. Plus, they were accommodating for our 2 little ones. The staff were very attentive. I don’t want gatekeep this place but they are too good not to get the recognition.

Roger S.

Google
The menu has so many enticing choices augmented by daily specials. The rolls and sashimi were of the highest quality and flavor. Reasonable prices.

Google
Very tasty suishi, our server was awesome (friendly, funny, knowledgeable). Accommodated our last minute date night. Byo w state store down the block. Slightly loud. 3 of 3 drinks. Wine, coke, water.

Corie M.

Google
5 star staff, food, atmosphere, prices, location😍 Can’t say enough good things about this place!! We were greeted with a huge warm welcome, treated like vegan royalty, and ended the night with a hot green tea - a great touch. What a great experience.

Google
Can’t believe I hadn’t come here sooner! Incredibly tasty food, with a unique menu and great vibe. Truly great place in ambler!!

Jamie M.

Google
Quality food, service and experience. My husband and I’s first time coming and we look forward to many more times ahead. The quality of food, taste and preparation was delicious and knocked our socks off. The service was spectacular thank you Briana, Elmer and Ava. Made it extra special. Highly recommend!

Steve C.

Google
It’s an awesome place. Made reservations through their website and it was super easy. The thing that stood out was the level of attention to details from everyone. Every person had their role and our waitress was excellent. As you get seated they bring you a hot towel, you don’t het to see that anywhere anymore. It’s a nice touch. The food was great. I had my hesitation about the short rib empanadas but did not regret it. The pork belly buns were awesome too, it had a smokey quality which I wasn’t expecting and threw my palette for a spin in a good way. Rolls were great too. Don’t forget to BYOB!

Yelp
Yummy cute spot for sushi in the area! Service was a little slow but the food was still good~ especially the green tea panna cotta!! Good place for a date night :D

Yelp
The food is really good. I love the green dragon rolls. However, $15 for what you see in the picture which is three empanadas is a little excessive. They should put more empanadas in the order is all I'm saying. But they were cool. They stayed open for us. We were five minutes late. That was very nice of them but five dollars an empanada. That's 40 minutes of work if you made minimum wage for 1 empanada.

Yelp
Sushi Hatsu os a really tasty sushi spot. It's on the main drag on Butler Pike. Bet you might have driven by and didn't notice. Now you will! There's about 20 tables inside. When we walked in, it was pretty loud and full. We were seated quickly. It was easier to talk after some folks left (it was 8pm). The sushi is well presented and full of flavor. You can expect to pay $8 for an AAC roll, and twenty for a really cool one. They even have "specials" which sound quite intriguing. The chicken dumplings were fabulous too! I definitely recommend this place. Not good for groups or kids (they won't appreciate how good this is).

Yelp
Run don't walk to Sushi Hatsu! The best sushi in Montco. So fresh, great service, such an awesome spot. I am not one to leave reviews but just had the best experience.

Yelp
We went to Sushi Hatsu for our anniversary hoping to do their Omakase menu - there was no information on when it was - their Facebook made it seem like it was available on weekends (we knew at one point it was weekdays only). We were a little bummed to realize that it wasn't available for us, but we found a lot of fun things on the menu to try. We mixed and matched through out the menu - with the Sashimi Premium being our "main course." We did the Maitake Mushroom Tempura and were disappointed to have more tempura than mushrooms in our bites. It had a nice salty flavor and when you got a bit of mushroom it was awesome but there wasn't enough to stand out. We also tried the Pork Belly Buns - these were super delicious and the flavors were well-balanced. Before our delicious sashimi (can you really go wrong?), we had the Tarantino roll which seemed to be popular among the people sitting around us. We liked it, but the seared flavor the of the salmon didn't really come through and the mango was slightly overpowering. I'd likely still order it again, but... Sushi Hatsu is a BYOB, so be sure to bring your favorite adult beverage to enjoy with your sushi (and without a mark-up!).

Yelp
We really enjoyed Hatsu and feel it solidly stands apart from other Japanese options in a 20 mile radius. The vibe is simple but polished. Staff were excellent. Fun to hear them call the chefs, "chef." Basic dishes you'd expect were quite good; miso soup, seaweed salad, edamame. Special roll did not disappoint and neither did the other roll assortment we selected. We found the pricing fair for the service and food quality. And we think it's a major win as a BYO. And a very GF attentive establishment, which we always appreciate. We'll be back, likely regularly. Hatsoff to Hatsu.

Yelp
OMG!!! Ordered take out, got the "Pan Seared Scallops" for $22.00 and Got 2 scallops. That's it. So $11.00 each! What a freaking rip off!! Never again. Sushi Hatsu is off my list . I don't care if they offer me free soup, I'll never go back. And, if they rip you off on the scallops what else are they screwing you on?? I just bought 1.5 Lbs of fresh scallops from Whole Foods and paid $27.00. Screw you Hatsu!!

Yelp
This is a tale of two restaurants. Before COVID, this was a great restaurant that we would visit every month or so. Now in 2023, the portion sizes have gone down (e.g. Empanadas - they ruined them and they are half the size) and they added corkage fees and a 3% credit card surcharge - wtf? There is no way in hell I am going back to a place in the suburbs that has those charges. Hatsu needs to check themselves - they aren't Morimoto and Ambler isn't Rittenhouse Square. I'm doing you a favor going into Ambler - parking sucks and there's nothing to do after you eat. At least in Doylestown or New Hope there are interesting stores and coffee shops to visit. I didn't even get to our server not mentioning the Daily Specials - wtf. Chef Harrison Kim must have left, because those empanadas suuuucked! Bye bye Sushi Hatsu - you were once great, but you don't treat customers like that.

Jack S.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. Been here 3 times now and it does not disappoint! Each time we have gone, we have gotten the greatest recommendations from the staff, who truly know the menu and will be able to tell you about the dish. The owner is personable and from beginning to end the meal is unforgettable.

Joanna R.

Yelp
Phenomenal. We asked for an omakase experience and they knocked it out of the park. Quality was excellent mixed with some modern and creative combination of flavors.

Yelp
An amazing find!!! Came here impromptu after playing pickle ball. It's definitely more upscale but I definitely did not feel weird coming in workout clothes. Start out with a warm wash cloth to clean your hands, then dig in to the apps! The empanadas were unreal and so we'd the bao buns! Every sushi roll we had was good and the service was amazing. They had so many unique specials. I will definitely be back to try more menu items and it's byob to boot!!

Lexi D.

Yelp
Fabulous. Always. The fish, the service, the fact that you see the same faces everytime.

Arthur B.

Yelp
Food(very small amount) was very fresh we had two appetizer. and one roll each both of us walked away hungry and the bill was outrageous. Service very friendly and was accommodating will not return.

Annie L.

Yelp
Best sushi that I have ever had! All of the workers were very attentive to the table and very friendly. New favorite sushi spot, will definitely be back.

Katelyn G.

Yelp
Love it here every time we go. Don't forget to BYO. Service is lovely and the food is creative and delicious.

Yelp
This place feels eloquent! The service is prompt and profession. their sushi is on point and their non sushi dishes are amazing! my pregnant wife and I come here because their offering of non raw dishes are superb!

Madhu T.

Yelp
Portions are small, agree with another reviewer who said that the pre-covid to after Covid relaunch is like night and day. Our entre priced dishes were appetizer sized dishes. the maitake tempura is just a cloud of oily batter and minimal mushrooms. the sushi rolls looked like the nori was trimmed before forming. trying to understand why there were only 6 shinny pieces instead of the standard 8.

Helen M.

Yelp
We were a large family group! Everyone has been quite pleased with the menu, service, and FOOD!
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
incredible! just took out a client group of 8 for a delicious and memorable meal, would definitely return. we had a private room that still had a window into the rest of the restaurant that was perfect for our group. the meal was prix fixe with several courses of fish, rolls, mini entrees, and dessert and I was so surprised by the amount and variety of food. I appreciated the chef explaining each dish, he's clearly passionate and knowledgable and it really added to the experience. favorites were the short rib empanada, chilean sea bass, eel roll, the assorted fish we started with, and the green tea panna cotta. this seemed like a great place for a smaller group or to dine solo too, everyone was having a good time.

Yelp
I think of Sushi Hatsu. They're extremely small so try to make reservations ahead. Not sure if they're great for big groups with the COVID situation but I suggest calling. I love their unique take on sushi and flavor blending. They are BYOB and we've gone several times at this point. The one thing that is a MUST try is the short rib empanadas. Their take on empanadas with Korean short rib is to die for along with the fresh chimichurri on top. You get two empanadas per order. Make sure to order two orders because they take a bit but are delicious. You won't regret it. Here's some others we've tried that I can remember 1) Ambler Love roll is extremely different. Its pretty savory from the mushrooms with smokiness from the salmon. I would say this is a much denser roll if you want that experience with a unique combination of flavors 2) Tarantino Roll - I loved the spicy Hamachi part but the spicy apricot mango chutney was a bit overpowering for me. 3) Diablo roll tastes fresh with the combination of flavors of the ponzu and I didn't think it was too spicy so go for it. 4) Of course they will recommend the Patagonian toothfish that's extremely buttery and will melt in your mouth. I highly recommend getting this. 5) Kanpachi Carpaccio - I thought this blend of black truffle and yuzu soy was so unique and bright. I wish we had ordered our own but I could eat this forever. I highly recommend this. Lastly if you see them doing any type of specialty family meals to take out, just do it. You cannot go wrong here. We did a Christmas special take home- no pics but it was amazing. You are paying for quality and a wonderful taste pallet experience whether it be at home or at the restaurant

Yelp
What a gem! My husband brought me and the kids here for our wedding anniversary. We ordered lots of different things from the menu, but what stood out from the rest was the special Moriawase. I think we found our new favorite place and to top it off, without the city drive. Great atmosphere. Knowledgeable wait staff. The best sushi. And as my little states, "Panna cotta is my life." Definitely check it out!

Yelp
TL;DR - absolutely love love love this place and will always come back here. Everything is SO GOOD Came here multiple times already and am ready to go back again! If you like sushi then this is your place because the sushi here is fresh and delicious and not at an unreasonably high price imo. Also their service is great! Friendly staff who are helpful and courteous!! When you are seated, you are given water + warm hand towels to clean your hands. This place is also a BYOB restaurant which is a major + for me and will take care of opening your drink, etc for you. For appetizers, I have had the short rib empanada and the kanpachi carpaccio which were both very good! The short rib empanada is filled with Korean short ribs and it is very tender! Not rough or chewy but very tender and the outside is doughy which balances out the saltiness of the inside. Love it!!! The kanpachi carpaccio is amberjack raw fish topped with olive oil, yuzu soy, and black truffle. Not tiny little specks of truffle but actual pieces! It was really good!! Would def recommend both appetizers I've also ordered a few of their oh-toro and chu-toro nigiri/sashimi pieces ($12 a piece for oh-toro) and they literally melted in my mouth, YUM!! For the meal, I love ordering the moriawase which comes with 8 pieces of sushi chosen by the chef and your choice of a basic roll. I would recommend this for those who like a variety and want to try the different pieces of fish the chef chooses. I also ordered the hatsu roll which does not have rice in it but is wrapped in cucumber. It's filled with tuna, salmon, avocado, and mango and wakame. Really good option for GF and those who dislike rice. My favorite was the Tarantino roll which came topped with a spicy apricot chutney sauce on top. This roll is filled with shrimp tempura and spicy hamachi and really melted in my mouth. Diablo roll was also really good!! Comes with a side of ponzu sauce that you dip in which gives the roll a good kick! If you dislike raw fish or looking for a real entree, the Patagonian tooth fish is a great option! It was amazingly soft!! Literally melts in your mouth! I was surprised at how soft it really was! The fish is on the sweeter side so it's not salty and pairs well with the picked asparagus and truffle parsnip purée. For dessert there are 2 options available - yuzu cheesecake and the green tea panna cotta. I would totally recommend both! The yuzu cheesecake is a good sized cheesecake.. bigger than a single slice! The yuzu is subtle and not too strong which I really appreciated. The green tea panna cotta is kind of like a green tea tiramisu. Super smooth and creamy with green tea taste. Absolutely amazing I could eat it every single day!! All my visits here have been really good and I can't wait to come back to try all of the other items on their menu!

Yelp
I can not say enough amazing things about Sushi Hatsu! The food is fresh, authentic and downright out of this world! The service is always top notch with friendly and attentive servers! While the food is worth of fine dining, the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable.
google avatar

Kenneth N.

Yelp
Hachi located downtown Ambler is a Refreshing new sushi place with the sushi chef under the lineage of Morimoto bringing fresh new ideas and taste to the suburbs of ambler. while I feel the price of each roll is slightly pricey for the burbs they do bring a higher level of flavor and sophistication in the rolls. It's a great place on the weekend for drinks and dinner with friends
google avatar

Maria L.

Yelp
We enjoyed quite a selection of delicious sushi here. It's fairly new (open about a year). The chef takes great pride in his beautiful creations, is very artistic and knowledgeable, everything was fresh and made to order. I look forward to returning. We even got dessert to go!

Lindsay T.

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I've ever had! Each dish was so unique and memorable. They explained every single dish and made terrific suggestions throughout the entire meal. The Patagonian Toothfish and Kanpachi Carpaccio are an absolute must! I suggested Sushi Hatsu to a few friends and each of them were blown away by their meals! Our meal listed below with photos: 1. Fried Dumpling- I wish I could buy a jar of the spicy apricot sauce! 2. Patagonian Toothfish- cooked to perfection, it should be a requirement to order this! 3. Kanpachi Carpaccio- melts in your mouth, absolutely delicious 4. Hatsu Roll- the combination of flavors (in addition to the freshness of each element) made this a standout roll! 5. Dessert- wish I remembered the name but it was the perfect end to the meal- lemon citrus custardy base with granola and a berry sauce.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Wonderful service and food for a Friday night We tried lots of appetizers and sushi rolls based on recommendations of our servers and all were fantastic! Even the simple ones (edamame) were delicious and worth having while deciding on the entrees. The main server was always happy to come by to explain the basis for the dish or the family history behind each. Definitely recommend trying if you're in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Phenomenal restaurant - better than many restaurants in downtown Philadelphia. This place exceeds expectations in every mark, from professional service, chic ambiance, and phenomenal food. They are BYOB so for a perfect date night, have a wine flight at the winery next door, grab a bottle of wine to go, then enjoy a luxuriously paced meal at sushi hatsu. We had yellowtail carpaccio, fried calamari, two sushi rolls, and the sea bass which was out of thi

Laura V.

Yelp
Really very impressive. This is among the best sushi we have had anywhere. Even usual items like seaweed salad and miso are 3 levels up here. It was a great experience.
google avatar

Faye K.

Yelp
Come here for the sushi and desserts! I came here a couple of times with my husband and my friend and was not disappointed. It's a really cute BYOB restaurant located in the heart of Ambler. I love their fresh sushi and cold appetizer but I am not a fan of their sushi rolls nor their hot food. The staffs are very attentive and knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions. Since it's a newly open restaurant, the restaurant itself is very clean and so is the bathroom. When you ever visit this place, try to touch the bottom of your table. They put a carpet under the table so even if you bang your knee (#tallpeopleproblems), it doesn't hurt as much. I highly recommend the Japanese uni with quail egg and madai tiradito.

James L.

Yelp
Great food, but pricey. You get what you paid for though. Good service, our waitress was kind of all over but she did her job. Manager was very friendly and sees the needs for customers even before asking. Again, good food and good vibe.

Libby P.

Yelp
Yes. Just yes. Please go. Get the maitaki tempura and calamari to start. And you can't go wrong with any of their specialty roles. We went around valentines day and they an Ambler roll that was amazing! I'm not sure if it was a special though. And obviously try some interesting sashimi where you are there, the have a great selection!
google avatar

Jackie V.

Yelp
Really lovely upscale-type restaurant with great service and ambiance. I loved the minimalist but stylish interior, and the elegant table setting. I went here for a Valentine's day dinner a while back, when it was very busy, and my fiancé and I were both really impressed with the level of the service. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and another member of staff--I believe the owner--came out twice to check on our meal. I felt that he genuinely cared that we had an excellent experience with everything we tried. The food was also excellent, and I really appreciated the different dietary options, as well as the fact that they were clearly noted on the menu. Later we dined here during one of Ambler's restaurant weekends in 2020. It was outside, and once again the service was very attentive, and the staff took great care to keep everything antiseptic. The owner also came by to check up on everything and with some great recommendations. Another plus is that it's BYO, but they also have specialized glassware for sake among other things. So even though they don't have a bar, you still get the full elegant restaurant experience. Overall, delicious food, stellar service, and an elevated dining experience you usually only get in a metropolitan area.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Every experience of every visit at Sushi Hatsu is fantastic. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5. And they have many options, clearly marked on the menu for those with dietary restrictions, and knowledgeable staff to top it off.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
We have tried Sushi Hatsu twice in the past year. I am a bit surprised at the high ratings after both of my experiences. I have tried no less than ten items off the menu and nothing was memorable. The portions are small and the flavors are basic. The fish is fresh, but it doesn't make up for the other short falls. I am a big supporter of local business, but I know there are other restaurants with superior sushi and flavors in the local area. Looking for options, but nobody comes close to my local favorite.
google avatar

Kenneth Z.

Yelp
I was thinking about 4 but am putting 5. Overall the fish seems fresh, pretty good selection, and definitely welcome in this sushi desert of the Philly burbs. Look, Ambler is not LA or NY so a restaurant like this is almost community service. Having only tried the moriawase (nigiri / roll set) and a few other rolls can say I'll definitely be back. However I have to mention the rice was hard and didn't seem "fresh," which was disappointing for a sushi joint. Also the roll pieces were not all cut to the same size but that's what happens when you are ordering at 6pm on Friday. Lastly wow we are missing out on BYOB, but hope to do that in the future. PS open only Thu, Fri, and Sat for takeout during COVID
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Ambler is lucky to have Sushi Hatsu. High quality, great service, and your money goes far. They offer a wonderfully diverse menu with a great selection of cold and warm options. I highly suggest the small grill items (Kobe beef, shoshito peppers, scallops, and pork belly) as a great way to start your meal. They're priced as a single item, but that means a single skewer. You'll get 5 peppers or a pair of the others. They're perfectly seasoned and grilled with a delicious sauce accompaniment. The duck confit shumai was absolutely divine. Perfectly steamed and a luxurious flavor. You get 4 and can share if you don't gobble them all up. The standout winner was the Pantagonia Toothfish. The cookery on the fish was sublime and every element accentuated the flavor. Another dish it was hard to share. I will also say this is the best service in Ambler. Highly attentive staff and on top of everything. Top of their game. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
Update: We have since been back from our first visit, and had another exceptional experience, including the food and service. We highly recommend the Tarantino Roll, all the sashimi/sushi, and the Korean Short Rib Empanadas! Original: Wow! We had one of the best dining experiences at Sushi Hatsu. The food was amazing including the taste, presentation, quality, and speed; service was phenomenal including very attentive, accommodating, and kind; atmosphere was cozy, clean, and engaging. We had a wonderful time and are excited to come back. We would all highly recommend it! I specifically would recommend getting a lot of fish-- more sushi and sashimi versus the rolls, but everything was amazing! We had one person in our party who is gluten free, and everything on the menu is clearly marked-- and they do offer gluten free soy sauce. Our table particularly enjoyed the hamachi Serrano, the unagi (eel Sushi, and the chu-toro Sushi.. and don't forget to get dessert! The Yuzu cheesecake and the Green Tea Panna Cotta were absolutely delicious and unique desserts! Thank you Sushi Hatsu!

Yelp
Phenomenal customer service. The owners are such guys. The food is amazing. Your missing out! Check it out!

Yelp
We had dinner here last night for the 1st time and it was SOOO good!! the service was great and the sushi was the best it was sooo fresh and wasn't thickly packed with rice like most places we could actually see the tuna!!. The salad was fresh and way bigger than most sushi restaurants. We also had the miso soup and it was seriously amazing!! Our go to place for sure!!!

Yelp
Came here for date night. To guarantee seating, make a reservation. We were greeted right away. We arrived about 10 mins ahead of our reservation time but they sat us anyway. We brought our own bottle of sake but because it was happy hour, they offered us a complimentary glass so we tried their sake warmed and had ours chilled. The food is served tapas style which I loved because I am notorious for wanting one of everything. That's pretty much what we got...we ordered a pork belly skewer and short rib empanada to start. Then we just kept ordering food...Hatsu roll, Diablo roll, Kobe skewer, spicy tuna roll, oshinko roll and another Kobe skewer. The gentleman who brought the food over explained how everything was prepared and what ingredients were used. He even shared what his wife inspired from the menu. My guess is he's either the owner or head chef. For the first time in a very long time I can say we didn't have one bite of food we didn't like. Everything was fresh, bursting with flavor and made with care. We would have gotten more food but wanted to save room for dessert. If I had to only order one dish from her forever, it would be the Kobe skewer. Honestly, if they had a main dish that was a larger version, we'd have both gotten that. We will be back...often. What a great addition to downtown Ambler! Parking is a project so pack your patience for that.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner experience with my friends on a weeknight. We were seated outside under a tent. Service was fantastic and they were very attentive. Sushi was fresh and delicious. They gave us a complimentary dessert and it was delicious!! Just the perfect end to our meal. We loved the variety and will come back to try more on the menu! Big hits: spicy calamari, Tarantino Roll, chirashi supreme, moriwase, and basic rolls (spicy scallop and yellow tail)
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
We did it again! We went back and we brought some friends. They, too, loved it. We enjoyed a few things off the menu and of course the special. The special was a white fish tartar roll. YUMMY! YUMMY! Once again, would I come again? YES Am I planning another visit? YES Would I order the special of the day? YES, there hasn't been any errors thus far! Service as always was impeccable!

Yelp
Excellent Japanese Sushi!! We had a delightful Saturday evening. Staff , food and ambiance all great!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Staff is soooooo friendly and can't beat the BYOB. It's gonna be a staple date night for us!

Yelp
Sushi Hatsu is located in the former Ambler Cabaret right on Butler Ave which has sat vacant for at least 20 years. The building required extensive renovations to turn it into a restaurant. The owners did a fantastic job turning an eyesore into a sleek modern restaurant. Overall this new addition to the Ambler restaurant scene is a good one. While sushi is in its name this restaurant is more of a tapas fusion then straight a typical sushi restaurant. The benefit to this style is that there is something for everyone. If you don't like or want fish they have options like short rib empanadas or several types of dumplings. They also offer several options from their raw bar. My wife and I had a reservation for 7pm on a Friday night in May at the sushi bar. This was the the second weekend they were open and the restaurant was totally full. A large glass wall provides a great view of the restaurant as you walk up to the front door. As you enter the hostess stand is directly in front and there is a three person bench to your right along the wall. The dining area is shaped like a backwards L and the large sushi bar is along the left side wall. Gray is the predominant color through out the restaurant with white subway tile along the left wall at the sushi bar. The decor was simple, modern and had a warm feel. This restaurant is a great example of how Ambler has really turned into an upscale restaurant scene. The lighting in the front was dim compared to the sushi bar and seating area along the right side wall. One thing that is very obvious when you walk in is that this place is very loud. As far as seating goes the tables seemed to be a bit too close together and looked like people were almost eating with each other. The tables along the right side wall seemed to have a bit better spacing than the rest of the dining room. The sushi bar is large and its the best seat in the house. One thing that I didn't like is that the Sushi Chef's didn't really acknowledge anyone at the bar. This isn't a big deal but it feels more corporate than local to me. They had plenty of staff working. From a quick count they had seven people in the kitchen and seven working the front of house. Our waitress did a great job and our food arrived quickly. Some of our friends were seated behind us and they had a few issues with the wrong food coming out and so did the people next to us. No major issues though. All new businesses have to work out the kinks in the first few weeks. After we were seated our server came right over and took our drink order. She promptly came right back with our drinks and explained the night's specials. Our first course was a house salad with miso dressing. It was large enough to share and their dressing was one of the best we've had. Our dinner choices included a dragon roll, diablo roll and the sashimi plate. The dragon roll had thin sliced strawberry's on top and my wife enjoyed it. The diablo roll had spicy tuna, seared albacore, avocado, scallions and a spicy ponzo sauce. I enjoyed everything about this roll except for what I think were carrots. They were uncooked so when you bite into the roll it feels like there is something inside that doesn't belong. I'm sure the purpose was to give some texture to the roll but I didn't think it worked at all. Personally my way of judging sushi restaurants is by the quality, size and cuts of their sashimi. I figured the 17 piece sashimi plate ($30) would be the best way to have a nice cross section of fish. When the plate came out I was really underwhelmed by the portion size. Umai in Lansdale is still my go to for comparison and their version is also $30 which comes with 4 pieces of sushi, 10 pieces of sashimi and a large spicy tuna roll. The plate at Hatsu was about 35% smaller than Umai. The quality of fish was high and I did enjoy it. The only fly in the ointment was that the salmon still had the brown flesh on it. I've never seen this before when ordering sashimi. We will be back to try some of their cooked options and I will update my rating as needed. Sushi Hatsu may not be the best sushi restaurant around but it is one of the better ones. I think it will quickly become one of the more popular restaurants in Ambler.

Yelp
So very excited to have such an amazing option for sushi now in Ambler! It's been a long wait, but it was well worth it. We had to try a bit of everything, but we'll certainly be back to eat our way through the rest of the menu. I'll update here after we do to express any new favorites. I've always been told to judge a sushi place off its uni, and though I'm not really a huge fan of sea urchin, I had to give it a shot. It was really delicious. My usual sushi favorites are toro (which I always thought was just fatty tuna, but they had several different toro, belly-fat options) and unagi (eel), so had to give those a try, too. What we tried: -Uni sashimi -Sake toro sashimi (salmon belly) -Chu toro sashimi (bluefin love handle) -*Oh toro sashimi (bluefin belly) -*Unagi sushi -Scallop sashimi -Ambler Love Roll (mandatory gringo roll: tempura, smoked salmon, cream cheese, not-spicy jalapeño goodness) -*Pork belly buns -*Duck confit shumai (fois gois, truffle decadence) -Scallops (from the grill) -Pork belly (from the grill) -*Kanpachi Carpaccio (white fish with citrus, olive oil, shaved truffle, fresh and amazing) All were really good, but the starred items were *insanely* good and are absolute musts to try! Of everything, we could've passed on the 'from the grill' items. BYO - so bring your favorite wine to pair. They also played great music!! Hours: M - Closed Tues-Thurs - 5-10 Fri-Sat - 5-11 Sun - 4-9 The only bad thing is that Dave and I only live a mile from here, so we'll have to start budgeting for this new restaurant addiction. Dammit. Such a good problem though.. We'll be back soon enough!

Yelp
First time but not the last. Started with the pork belly which my husband said was the best he ever had. The mussels were delicious in the Miso broth. He had the Moriawase (chef selection) and Dragon Roll were both great and VERY filling. Everyone raved about the Empanada but we were so full! We will be back. Maybe even regulars. Welcome to Ambler.
