Absolutely loved the omakase here. It’s a bit pricy but definitely worth it as they give you a lot of food and every item that the chief brought out for us was delicious. My favourite dish is definitely the cod, it basically melts in your mouth and I could not recommend it more. The owners and the other chef in the kitchen were all very nice and quite a character. We had a very enjoyable meal chatting with them and loved all the food. Would definitely recommend and I would come back again.

A nice little spot hidden in the corner. We stopped here to have dinner before a show at the Pantages. I ordered the sashimi salad which came with Miso soup. The salad was very refreshing and delicious. It came with a tangy ginger dressing which was so good!! The staff was very friendly and attentive. Loved our experience here, and would definitely visit again. Helpful info: Soft Drinks are by the can here.

Most "sushi" places are overrated, charge for the atmosphere, and let you down on their quality. Sushi Ike is a small private owned business by a lovely husband and wife, where the owner/chef goes to the fish market himself to make the best picks! Sushi Ike has never failed us, and always has the freshest ingredients! We've always gone for Omakase and leave it to Chef Rick's choice, which has always been incredible! We look forward to what dish he's going to surprise us with next, and of course, it's always something mouth watering! His flavors are so unique and delicious compared to your average spot, which is why we love bringing new people to share in the experience with us. I used to love Sushi Ike. I went back after a few years, and I felt the fish had lost its quality. The service was efficient, and I didn’t mind the no-frills space. I hope it was a one-evening failure because not being able to trust Sushi Ike would be a terrible loss.

This place is a hidden gem. Such quality fish and the service is so warm and friendly. It’s my go to now and am obsessed with this place.

I came here for the first time a couple weeks ago. The sushi was more expensive than your average sushi restaurant (I paid $60 for like 3 or 4 nigiris and a house hot sake), BUT the quality was slightly below average, the location was a sketchy strip mall, the ambience was below average, and to top it off I was being served water in a red solo cup. I hate writing negative reviews, so maybe I'll try it again if I'm ever in the area again and update my review, but this review honestly reflects my experience.

I positively love this restaurant. I visit alone , with family and with coworkers on a regular basis. We have always been seated quickly. The customer service is always respectful kind. The drinks selection is good . The sushi is delicious. We have tried from the basic menu as well as the special menu. The lunch special is also a great deal. The misdo soup it comes with is good, my personal favorite is the Teriyaki Salmon. The amount of positive things I can say about this little place are unlimited.

This is a legit sushi place. It’s not overly showy, and they don’t do rolls with a bunch of mayonnaise and weird kitschy names. It’s straight up sushi/sashimi for people that love fish, and it’s worth every penny. I just finished eating there, and I want to go again. Great chefs, attentive server, amazing food. It doesn’t get the love it deserves. I shouldn’t be able to get in the door.

I have always wanted to try this place and I finally did on April 3rd of this year, It was always closed when I happened to be in this shopping center before their opening time. Sorry that my review is couple of months late. But like the saying goes:better late than ever. My son and I happened to be in this neighborhood and it was around 5:30pm and they just opened their doors. So we get in and the place is empty except the chef, and the lady who owns the restaurant and does everything else. From taking orders, bringing out the orders, check, answering phones, cleaning the tables and i am sure so much more. We have ordered a lot of different types of sushi rolls, hand rolls, soup and salad. Everything tasted good and fresh. I was expecting for the sushi to be a little bit more ordinary, but it was typical Japanese style. Didn't meet our expectation, but we were very hungry and ate it anyway. Restaurant is super clean, including the bathroom. 2 big puzzle pictures on the wall. It was beautifully done. I complimented her on the puzzle and the decor in the restaurant and she said she did both puzzles herself. Very unique, and creative. Looked pretty on the wall. Service was not welcoming at first, but the lady owner started to finally talk once I talked to her first. It was expensive for our budget. $140.00 for 2 people including tip for like 5 dishes. We might, or we might not return!

I've known Ike since his Hollywood days and was delighted when he moved his business to Pasadena. Sadly, he seems to have folded his tent in the wake of COVID-19 and I no longer have go-to sushi within a 50 mile radius. If he's decided to retire permanently, I wish him the best. Food: The food was fantastic, we specially recommend the uni, toro and the shrimp tempura roll. Service: The service was great, they were nice and made sure we had everything we needed. Place: It's a hidden gem, It's nice and small but there's plenty of room inside. The chairs are comfortable and it's nicely decorated. Time: The food was brought to us quickly and without any issues. Price: We paid 200 dollars, you may think that's a lot but for the quality and quantity of what they serve it's totally worth it. Compared to other omakase prices it's actually a great price.

Giving the love where the lovin' is deserved. However, I hope this too goes unnoticed because I tend to blow up my local sushi joints. Keep it up Ike!!!

A colleague and I basically ran here to try to make it before the 9:30 closing. It was around 9:10/9:15 and the kind server told us that they were closing... I gave her puppy dog eyes and asked if we could still make it if we ordered and ate fast and she agreed. I'd already scoped the menu so I knew I wanted the grilled octopus and the black cod. My colleague had the miso soup, edamame, and a couple of the sushi rolls which I did not sample but that he enjoyed. I loved both of my dishes although the octopus was just a touch dry. A sauce or squeeze of lemon could have helped. It But really grateful that they let us eat here for an enjoyable meal! It was so refreshing to find a restaurant in a strip mall in this neighborhood that is typically overrun with tourists. This felt like the kind of place where locals eat. Nothing fancy, just good and reasonably priced food.

Good food, good chef. The chefs might seem quiet at first, but once you talk to them, you'll quickly enjoy their dry sense of humor. For the food, I really enjoyed the omakase. Fantastic quality. Really creative as well. I'll definitely be back.

This restaurant is in a strip mall. The experience wasn't the best ever and it was not bad either. There were four people sitting at the sushi bar when I arrived and it seemed like they were having a great time. The sushi was pretty decent. Fresh but not like the best ever flavor wise. I had the baked crab cut roll (okay), salmon sushi (decent), spicy tuna (the spice was made with a Korean spicy sauce I think, instead of what you would normally expect), albacore and yellowtail were both fine. This probably would not be the first place I go to if I'm looking for sushi in the area but it's not a bad option either.

This is easily the very best sushi restaurant I have tried in Los Angeles thus far, and I have been to quite a few sushi houses in Southern California. My friend, Lyn, treated me last month to this place and turned me into a believer. The sushi here is as generous as she is. You will not find them skimping on fish here. Each piece is nice and thick!! For all the changes so many restaurants have made post pandemic, this is one sushi joint that does not cut corners. She is one of their very regulars so much so that Nicole, the waitress, already knows what she will order. We ordered her favorites and then some. We had the yellow tail, red snapper, salmon, amongst many others. I practically had to be rolled out of there, I was so full and so happy. The freshness was really truly spectacular. The chef and Nicole will remember me because I am the dunce who accidentally knocked over my water glass and sent glass all over the floor. Good one! They very graciously moved us to the next table over where we just continued to eat even more sushi. We smartly went early at the opening of the dinner time rush so not too many people inside but it started to fill up as we were leaving. It's deceptively hidden in a little strip mall with a 7-Eleven and mercifully that night no scrubby looking people outside, and we readily found a very close parking spot. But that's the beauty of it all. -It is a hidden gem of a restaurant where the outside ambiance is forgettable, the inside ambiance is average, but the food and service is definitely 5 Stars all the way!!!!!

Took my kids here a couple weeks ago and they are now addicted to excellent sushi. No more grocery store. And Nicole and Rick to great care of us.

This is such an extraordinary place. I've been coming here for over 25 years but this is the first time i've written a review for anything. Sushi Ike deserves some serious Love. I'm a bit of a sushi snob and have gone far and wide in Los Angeles to compare sushi restaurants. This is still my favorite place. The fish is so fresh and Rick is truly an artist in combining so many delicious and unexpected flavors always with an exquisite presentation. He also has an extremely dry sense of humor, and an amazing memory for what each of his loyal customers like. It's a casual neighborhood spot that people still travel from all over the city to go to. Small but very authentic in its aesthetic as well as the food. Treat yourself and sit at the sushi bar and let Rick make the magic. You will not regret it. Raena

Sushi Ike has amazing sushi. The owners are incredible and thoughtful. Every dish prepared is fresh and highlights each of the fish's unique flavor. We have been going here for years and this place is one not to miss. Highly recommend.

The food here is absolutely fabulous. It was a difficult time finding something on the menu for my picky eaters with me (that do NOT eat raw fish)--but in the end, they were pleased. We ordered the soft shell crab, combination tempura, dynamite, california roll, and yellowtail collar--everything was delicious. It was enough to satiate the hungry mothers that were with us for their dinner before the show (at Pantages down the street) and they loved everything they ate. I ordered a salmon hand roll and some bay scallop sushi, all were delicious as well. Seems everything they served even used REAL crab as opposed to imitation crab--always a sign of a high quality restaurant in my book. I would love to come here (with people that actually eat sushi) and try the chef's omakase sometime.. I bet it will be delicious. Why did they lose a star? Well, when they put our tables together, one of the wrapped chopstick sets fell off the table and onto the floor. The waitress picked up the chopsticks, and I expected her to walk away with it.. but instead, she placed it on top of the clean napkin. What the? So the part that was on the dirty floor, is now touching my clean napkin I am expected to wipe my face with? I asked the other waitress to bring us another set of chopsticks and napkin and she immediately did, but.. seriously?? A little common sense would go a long way...

I have a real soft spot for Strip Mall Dive restaurants. For some reason the divier the place the better the food. My list of strip mall dives is extensive: Hayat Kitchen - North Hollywood Luv2eat Thai Bistro - Hollywood Chego - Chinatown Dumpling House - Koreatown Mom's Bar-B-Q House - Van Nuys Joe's Falafel - Universal City The list goes on and on and on! Well, tonight the list got longer and better with Sushi Ike. Tuck away in this dive strip mall is this dive restaurant, Sushi Ike. It was fantastic. We ate tonight some of the freshest fish this side of Osaka. The four of us all chose to do the Omakase "A" which was a tremendous amount of really good sushi for just $40 a person. I mean the food kept coming well after we all hit the wall. This choice "A" had a bevy of gourmet sushi's, standard sushi's and high end sushi's. It was a feast. The staff were this super professional, very patient, good natured people making sure your experience at Sushi Ike was a pleasent one. Living in the SF Valley, all I have to do is drive down to Ventura Blvd. and drive 2 miles east or west to hit upon a dozen really excellent sushi restaurants. That is a no brainer. So to get in my car and drive the 15 miles (one way) to go to this destination sushi restaurant I heard about in Hollywood, it better be darn good and worth the drive. Sushi Ike, was totally worth the drive and I'll do it again, very soon.

A hole in the wall hidden sushi gem! Don't be fooled by the location and expect low prices though - this is legit sushi and you will pay for it. I definitely prefer Ike to places like SugarFish, although you won't get the same ambiance here. This is for real sushi lovers, not the beginner types. Get the Omakase!

Don't let the strip mall setting fool you, Ike is excellent sushi. The fish is top quality and very fresh. We hadn't eaten there in a while and were surprised to find that seating at the sushi bar is omakase only, thus my rating of 4 starts, rather than 5. The place was empty, but we still could not sit at the sushi bar. Service was polite and efficient. We will definitely eat here again.

Not nearly as good as Sushi Ike as yesteryear. I was underwhelmed and it was overpriced for what you get. Also don't come here for any sort of ambiance.

Small and unassuming, Sushi Ike is hidden away and slightly invisible in its surroundings. I would have never stepped foot inside, if it was not recommended to me but thank goodness it was. Sushi Ike is fantastic. The service is friendly, the prices are not too bad but the fish is fresh and tasty. Get the Omakase, its a good deal and its filling. I wish I had known about this place earlier but better late than never. I Like this place and I now have a chance to recommend Sushi Ike to others. I'm a fan!

Sushi gave me and my friend food poisoning. Not sure if it was the rice or sushi maybe left out too long but it was really awful and made us sick for about 2 days.

Went here based on the high score on yelp. However, the salmon and tuna is not that high quality and fresh. Also, the location is closed to hollywood in a 7-11 plaza. The parking is only 45 minutes. Went here at the noon of a weekday. i was the only customer. Do not recommended if you drive there on purposely.

Me and my friend found this place after a concert we were going to got cancelled and we had such a great experience! The spicy yellowtail hand roll I got had such a nice crunch to it and the seared albacore sashimi had such a unique flavor! I was super happy eating here!

This little place in the bottom level of a crappy looking corner stripmall has got to be the best hidden gem in the area. I happened to see it as we were looking for parking for the Pantages Theater, and since one of the lots is within the line of sight of this place, it was perfect. Even more perfect was the solid Yelp rating, which puts them above Katsuya - the place we were initially considering. We walked in and were robustly welcomed by the sushi chefs behind the sushi bar, and opted for a table. At this early hour (6:30-7pm-ish), there were lots of available seats and we had plenty of time to eat and walk to the Pantages to make our 8pm show (Book of Mormon, yay!). All our food hit the table fast: Ankimo sashimi - perfect, rich, fresh, accented with green onion Toro sashimi - melt in your mouth buttery! Salmon sashimi - unctuous, oily, fresh, yummmm Yellowtail sashimi - big thick slices, super fresh, buttery Albacore sushi - no ponzu as per my request, and it was so good it didn't need it Salmon sushi - pristine, super fresh Skipjack sushi - accented with a dab of yuzu and pepper, yum! Unagi sushi (3 orders) - SO good, cooked perfectly Spicy scallop hand roll - very fresh plump scallops, lightly spicy-sauced I'm a big fan of traditional sushi, which means I'm not into the fancy rolls much these days. So this dinner was right up my alley, and totally hit the spot! Add a soda and the bill came to $140 without tip, so not a cheap dinner by any means. But considering the perfect temperature of all the fish, the remarkable freshness of everything, the perfectly-sized warm rice pieces under the sushi fishes, and the generously-sized slices, this was worth every penny! Our server was SUPER polite and warm, and anytime we needed him all it took was a split second of eye contact to draw him over to us. He and another server kept our water glasses constantly filled, and checked in with us to see how we were doing. Top notch service! Another good sign about this place was our star sighting: Michael Rappaport. If he knows about this place, I definitely feel like we stumbled upon a gem! Friendly service, a big sushi bar and several tables, some of the freshest sushi and sashimi I've ever had, and an easy and free parking lot? These are the qualities that embody an excellent dining experience, just waiting to happen. This is going to be my go-to pre-Pantages dinner spot from now on, and I'll choose it over Katsuya any day. But I'll definitely be back even when I don't have show tickets!

The best of the best, my hidden gem sushi in Hollywood. Ike gets only the freshest fish, his standards are high and you can tell the difference. He's a hilarious guy, will probably crack jokes and have everyone at the bar laughing.

Went on a Friday night. Bottom line - served unfresh fish. The mackerel was clearly past it's life span. We all took a bite and immediately rejected it. The salmon sashimi looked good, but the salmon used on the sushi was dull and not fresh. Extra star for the delicious Japanese scallops. Service was OK. Not great, not bad. Considering the prices, I wouldn't recommend this place nor go again.

Who knew there was authentic, amazing sushi in a strip mall in Hollywood? We ordered a la carte and the bill came out to be a little under $120 for two. We had live shrimp, Japanese scallop, blue fin tuna, toro (fatty tuna), spanish mackerel, Japanese amberjack, red snapper, seared albacore, seared salmon and yellowtail. All the fish were fresh. Yellowtail and toro were perfectly buttery. Live shrimp had amazing texture. Each piece was carefully assembled - the scallop and red snapper come with a shiso leaf, and some of other nigiris paired with yuzu. They actually sear the fish on the grill instead of using a propane tank. The chef will tell you whether the piece needs soy sauce or not. I was incredible happy with my meal, and I can happily say that this is my favorite sushi restaurant in LA as of now! My friend (also Japanese) says the best sushi he's had is from sasabune in WLA (I've never been there), but Ike's wins second place. All the employees here are Japanese. Service is perfect, and like all Japanese restaurants complimentary dessert - fresh fruit! It's definitely an indulgence, but I would love to become a regular. Prices are fair, for the quality of food they serve! If you want a cheap-but-tasty sushi fix in the area, I would recommend sushi stop on franklin, right around the corner. Otherwise, COME HERE!!!!

Yes, Ike is not here any more - but the sushi is still the same quality and same great service despite some of the other reviewers are saying, to me, it's still awesome. I think the employees keep up the Ike standard pretty well. I have never been disappointed when I come here, wether it's packed or if it's empty. honestly I prefer to come here when it's not that crazy, the place is small, and it gets filled up quickly, waiting is kinda uncomfortable as the shopping plaza is kinda shady looking. But once you sit down, the wait is worth it. Their spicy tuna hand rolls are a must try... sometimes I want to just swing by and get one to go... but it's best eaten in the restaurant because you want the Nori to be fresh and crunchy. The fish is always fresh, and the sushi chefs are always pleasant to talk to... always really awesome dining experience.

Finally I got a chance to check this place out. I've been following the "50 things to eat in LA before you die list" from thrillist and this place was recommended to try and get the seared salmon. We came here with the mindset to just to try a few things, but ended up getting a lot of food since everything was so fresh. I do highly recommend the seared salmon. They also had live sweet shrimp which was delicious, especially the fried head portion. The yellowtail was also amazing. They had jelly fish on the menu, I hadn't tried that before, kind of a wired texture and it was ok, but everything else was really good.

I love Sushi Ike! The sushi is spectacularly fresh and expertly crafted. The chefs and staff are kind and thoughtful. The Omakase is the best around. This is a classic sushi place like in Japan.

Fish was ok. I got the chirashi bowl with a few sushi nigiri and I wasn't impressed. Maybe I should've gotten the omakase? Not coming back again.

Based on the reviews here we ate at Sushi Ike, and it was great. We tried the grilled octopus and it was easily the best octopus I have ever had. The fish was some of the freshest I have had, and the portions were large, thick slices. Many sushi places have a lot of rice, to provide fill, not the case here, it is a lot of fish and a little rice. Also, the Miso was cooked just for us, hot & fresh, very delish. I called for reservations, which were necessary, I wish we could reserve a parking space, the tiny lot only holds about 30 cars in this shopping center. It was a little pricy, but worth every cent. $60 worth of sushi for 2 people.

Where do I begin? I stumbled upon this place by accident. I found myself with a flat tire in Griffith Park one Saturday afternoon, and ended up spending the evening at Pep Boys. After waiting a few hours for Pep Boys to consider looking at my car, I wandered across the street to a dirty strip mall with a Subway, a Domino's, and a nondescript Sushi place. I discovered Sushi Ike; one of the best sushi joints I've ever been. Not knowing what I was walking into, I asked to see a menu before I sat down. A friendly couple at the bar smirked at my hesitation and advised me to take a seat and prepare myself for a treat. They introduced me to a friendly sushi chef (they came often enough to know him by name) and I asked him what I should order. I started with scallops with mint (unusual & delicious) followed by yellow tail and tuna. He made each piece taste slightly different and advised me how to eat them (soy sauce with some bites but not with others). Another couple near me was cooing over their tempura, so I ordered that too because I was ravenous but didn't want to break the bank on an unplanned "night out." The food and the service were perfect.
