Made a reservation days in advance to dine here on NYE and wish we had skipped. Upon arrival it was utter chaos with UberEats drivers filling up the rotunda to get into the restaurant. We check in a few minutes early and wait for our table. We then see the hostess, asking every party in front of us, whose reservations were earlier, if they would sit at the sushi bar as other tables would not be ready for at least 15 to 20 minutes. They ask us the same and we say no problem, we’ll sit at the bar.
Upon being seated, we are at the actual bar, not the sushi bar. We are greeted by the bartenders and then realize we are in a complete splash zone. Drinks are flying everywhere, they are fighting for their lives to eat on top of orders. We were offered comped drinks for giving up our table. I don’t drink, they still offered a comped Diet Coke which was very nice. They also delivered edamame to us, as if it were comped, come to find out it was not our order and they take it away from us. The host said they would bring us one on them, apologizes for the confusion.
We then had to flag the bartenders down (they were literally standing in front of us, but wouldn’t acknowledge that we were waiting to order, menus closed and giving eye contact) so we had to ask to place an order. I asked a question about the difference between two dishes, which I got a run around over and over, but never the answer I was looking for. I saw my server from last time dining here and asked if I could speak to him to ask the question. He was much more attentive and asked if we had any additional questions on the sushi menu as well. We re-order the edamame, and our meal. Edamame never comes out, and my hot food comes out about 20 minutes later. We are told the sushi is coming out in a minute. We then were told that they were extremely slammed and doing their best to get the sushi out. I finish my meal and about 20 minutes goes by and the sushi finally comes out. While we were waiting for the sushi, we watched multiple orders for takeout be prepared prior to people who were dining in the restaurant. They kept “checking in” on us asking how everything was and We repeatedly said we are still waiting on her sushi. At the end of the meal, we were asked if everything was OK and I said honestly no. This is a very expensive restaurant, we understand that it’s New Year’s Eve, but our meal was horrific and we were better off staying home. They did not offer to take anything off the bill, and I had to tell them that this was completely unacceptable service. They kept trying to push alcoholic beverages on us after I had said multiple times that I do not drink. We get our bill and the sushi is taken off, but the “complementary” Drinks were still on the bill. I told them that the hostess offered comped drinks (we watched her tell them this, and soda too!) for giving up our original table and sitting at the bar. They then adjust our bill, and still left the soda on. It’s not about the money, it’s about the principle. We were so fed up that we just paid so we could get out of there. On the way out he hands me (the one who said multiple times that I don’t drink) a bottle of sake “on them” as if it were an apology… every table received one. Needless to say, it will be hard to justify coming back here. The food is good, but not worth the hassle.
