Not only were the portions big, but the food was amazing and the service was excellent. Glad we came here. I am very pleased with it here and if I'm evert back in the area, I'll definitely be making another stop in!

Google
Sushi joy has been a family favorite for years. The tuna is always the best and fresh and Reasonably priced! We love their lunch specials but always splurge on the sweet lobster maki special roll - it’s the best around

For years, this Japanese restaurant has held a special place in my heart. It’s not just a dining spot—it’s a destination I eagerly anticipate every time I visit town. With its exceptional flavors, innovative offerings, and unmatched attention to detail, this is a place that consistently elevates the art of Japanese cuisine. Their iconic fire salmon dish is a masterpiece of culinary ingenuity. Delicate slices of salmon are suspended over smoldering coffee beans, which are set ablaze to create a dramatic presentation. But it’s not just a feast for the eyes—the coffee bean smoke infuses the salmon with a subtly rich aroma that enhances the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the fish. This dish alone is worth the trip, blending visual artistry and bold flavors in a way that’s unforgettable. For those seeking lighter fare, the restaurant offers a refreshing low-calorie option that rivals its more traditional counterparts. Their cucumber roll, crafted with precision in place of rice, is a testament to how clean eating can still be indulgent. The crunchy spicy tuna version of this roll is nothing short of phenomenal. With its crisp cucumber wrapping, perfectly seasoned tuna, and a touch of heat, it’s a vibrant and satisfying choice that feels both indulgent and health-conscious. What sets this restaurant apart isn’t just the inventive menu but the consistency in execution. Every dish, from their imaginative maki rolls to their classic offerings, reflects a commitment to excellence. Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or a curious newcomer, this place promises an experience that lingers long after the meal is over. It’s no wonder I find myself returning again and again, savoring the magic they create with every plate.

Google
Went here for lunch with my mom. Sushi was fantastic. Also, the best spring rolls, you will ever have. They were clearly fresh and had the optimal crisp. My mom got the bento box, which had a variety of good little treats. The only complaint to be had about the food is that the chicken in the bento box was tough and rubbery. She couldn't eat even one of the strips. Another protein choice might have made for a flawless lunch. Very cool atmosphere and exemplary service. Check out the fish tank and giant pixelated screen while you're there. Would definitely go back.

Google
We have passed by this place many times, but this is our first time eating there. We were not aware of the extent of their menu which contains both Chinese and Japanese dishes as well as sushi. We had hot and sour soup and luncheon bento boxes. We thought the hot and sour soup was the best we had in a very long time. We enjoyed salmon and beef bento boxes which we found to be generous and delicious. Our only complaint was that the beef was not tender. The variety of other reviews that I see here might indicate a lot of variability in experiences here. For us, everything was outstanding except for the beef. We will definitely return to try other items on the menu, and to see whether they continue to maintain the high standards we experienced.

Sushi Martini was awesome. Fresh tuna. The sushi Maki rolls were great too. The giant projection wall was visually appealing. Nice The owners were very friendly and inviting. I am

Google
We ordered take out: teriyaki chicken, lo mein noodles, scallion pancakes and gyoza. The teriyaki chicken was pale and not seasoned with teriyaki, it had a trace of a watery sauce in the container that had no taste. The lo mein had chicken in it that tasted like it had been cooked past expiration. We didn’t eat any of it and would have returned it had it not been late. The pancakes and gyoza were fine. Very disappointing, look elsewhere for take out.

Google
The rainbow tuna, and the shrimp tempura were very delicious along with the seaweed salad

Yelp
Food wasn't bad, didn't care for the grassy type green tea. Service was ok. Very quiet lighting was good
google avatar

Jamie G.

Yelp
Very good and attentive service. My sushi was very well prepared. My daughter enjoyed her noodles. Would visit again!

Yelp
Clean , good service, we have been here many times food is consistent. Good curry chicken and singapore rice noodles,

Yelp
Food: got the bento box - lettuce in salad was wilted, chicken was tasteless, tempura veggies were overdone, and the miso soup had no flavor and watery, Service: even though there weren't many people in the restaurant, we felt rushed to order and then pay. Will not return.

Yelp
Love all the sushi varieties here. Very fresh and fast service. Friendly bartenders and clean restaurant

Jenna C.

Yelp
Shoeless, sockless patron at the bar and not a word from staff...insane. I won't be back.

Yelp
If I feel like picking up some Americanized Chinese food (I.e. pu pu platter) then I often order here. Not a fan of their sushi and if you dine in, service is a game of roulette. If you do go for sushi it's not a horror show but don't expect a lot. My advice would be to not order sashimi (especially salmon), octopus or any rolls involving eel. All way too low quality.

Yelp
Service : really bad ! Popped in Saturday for a small / quick bite as huge dinner was later in day . Entered and it was empty around noonish . Was brought to table and went to ladies room to wash. As I returned to my table and I had just picked up menu I was asked for order !?! I replied : "I just now sat down ". He said order ? (Andy was the name in check ) I said:" pls give me a moment ". Then he asked me for drink ? (After asking him to speak slowly ) I ordered a mai tai - pretty good mai tai . I asked for orange beef . Got a quick retort 'no beef !' Like ever ? I asked . No beef! Was the retort again I said 'give me a minute to decide '. He pulled menu down and said pointed to an item and said 'chicken only !' I'm hesitant now and was thinking of leaving as this dude was snappy scrappy and (IMO) a bit too aggressive to feel safe after he forced the menu to the table ! I said I'll have some apps and ordered . He wrote down and walked away ! WOW ! I took a sip of my maitai. He didn't say thank you , drop dead or go to hell ! Just turned on his heel and left . Next was setting service . Followed by food . He said nothing and I replied nothing. Off to a good start eh ? (Hmm, Andy needs a lesson in manners !). So I ate my teriyaki and put skewers on table (not plate) / munched on egg rolls and ooops crumbs on table with spilled duck sauce. Oh my ! Slippery stuff ! Egg roll stuffing fell out with each bite ...oh well can't be helped ! Happens ! Time for check out : stood up to get attention . He rushed right over and demanded my credit card w/o presenting bill first ! I said "how much ?" He pointed to my Cc and I said '"how much ?" He mumbled something and waved to me to give him credit card w/o seeing bill first . I said (sternly) "you present the bill , I'll review it , then you can take my cc - that's how it's done !" (LOL woman two tables over turned and looked stunned at my reply - LOL) He came back with bill , I reviewed it all the while he was standing there with his hand out waiting !!! I presented the card and two swift he grabbed it and ran it ! I left 10% only because the food is good and the service sucked !!!" Oh well he had a very messy table to clean up ! Andy boy is rude !!!!!!!! He must have taken Rude 101 class and passed with honors !

Yelp
Everyone was so nice! I really enjoyed the food and drinks I recommend the sweet potato rolls this was by far the best restaurant I've been to in my life!!!

Yelp
Called for takeout on New Year's Eve, for my two rolls it was a 45 minute wait, also the prices posted on Yelp must be years out of date, both rolls were $3.00 more than listed here, this lead to some sticker shock at pickup, not sure whose issue this is but it wasn't pleasant. My spicy yellowtail wasn't spicy until I put wasabi on it, the crazy maki was excellent value and taste, I'd go back and just get that. They weren't overly pleasant but weren't rude at all and they were wicked busy, tables stacked with take out and a line of people waiting to pick up. I liked the crazy maki, but the sticker shock and poor spicy yellowfin are the reason it's not 4 stars. I'll go here if my other place isn't open but it's not my go to.

CC C.

Yelp
First, I'm not super picky when it comes to sushi. I crave it, but many times it takes real effort for me to be disappointed in sushi I get. I tend to eat anything, from incredibly adventurous to plain spicy tuna. Many times a little wasabi and soy sauce can give a boost to even the most mediocre of rolls. For the most part, I've gotten things here that have been pretty good. Flavors work out pretty well in many combinations. My most recent purchase was a thumbs down. Specifically the Amazing Tuna and Kiss of Fire. Where previous rolls manage to go the distance, there two don't even get off the block. None of the flavors jived well together and I could only make it through part of the tuna roll (the other I only managed 2 pieces). Very disappointing and not even worth taking a photo of either. I can eat 2-3 rolls by myself so not managing to eat even half a roll says a lot about these two rolls at least. So 3 visits, 6 rolls. 4 rolls have made the cut while 2 rolls fell woefully short. Not bad odds for finding decent sushi, but make your selections carefully.

Yelp
Great food! Better people. Always a good crowd around the bar and the service from Jess, Gary, Joe and Colleen can't be beat! Best sushi roll is Kiss the Fire and the House Singapore Noodles are perfect!

Yelp
Having lived in Plymouth and never eaten here, I was excited to try any new sushi Spot. My sister's boyfriend recommended we go here after a day of golfing and being famished. We arrived with no reservation and were easily sat right away. We came there with full appetites. We ended up having my Dad join us so it was a party of five. Our service wasn't the best as a lot of times we had to track down our server, but the food was definitely good. Located within The Colony Place, Plaza mall-Sushi Joy is fresh, delicious sushi with a great variety of menu options, mostly healthy. We just ordered a bunch of different plates and shared everything. I would definitely return here for some delicious sushi.
google avatar

Joshua B.

Yelp
Great prices on an assortment of delicious rolls. I got a spicy Avocado salad that was good too. Scorpion Maki is a great value. Service was great and lots of tables so there was no wait at lunch time. I will definitely come back to try more menu items perhaps the Chinese food too!
google avatar

Sandy P.

Yelp
Had a great lunch here. As with every place, staffing is low and waits are long but they were friendly and took good care of us! The sushi rolls are on the smaller size - so order 2 if you're hungry. I was disappointed that they didn't have hot tea, but food was great!
google avatar

Leticia H.

Yelp
Always so good! Staff is friendly, food is fresh, sushi boats are impressive. Good mai tai.
google avatar

Beverly H.

Yelp
Usually we love Sushi Joy and stop every time we travel from our house on Cape Cod to the Boston area. We have been disappointed the last couple of times. The hot and sour soup had an odd taste and my Kung Pou hi Jen had the same odd taste, like they were made with bouillon cubes or something similar. The waiter put our dishes on the opposite side of the table so we had to reach for everything, and then was no where to be found when we wanted the bill. Very disappointing.

Pam R.

Yelp
The sushi was excellent. Unfortunately the app was luke warm. The service was ridiculous they were not busy yet the staff was OTT came over 5 times to take our order (we had barely looked at menu). And couldn't give us the check fast enough. I would understand that if there was a line at the door...but not when you are not busy...
google avatar

Maura G.

Yelp
I returned to Sushi Joy yesterday simply because it was convenient to stop there for takeout on the way home from work. The last time I went (and was disappointed) was the first week of their reopening and I figured by now they've worked the kinks out. Ok, so I'm wrong every so often. For $59.85, I got a Chirashi sushi plate and 4 special maki rolls. All I'm going to say is, for $59.85, they could have put in a little wasabi. C'mon, just a dollop. There was not so much as a trace of wasabi in the Chirashi plate, let alone the rolls. You win, I've learned my lesson Sushi Joy, you really aren't the same place you used to be. Sayonara!
google avatar

Maryan P.

Yelp
Some of the waitresses don't speak English at all. After a few cocktails I totally understood what she was saying.
google avatar

Leah B.

Yelp
Food is ok, but definitely over priced. (FYI because it's not on the menu anywhere, the lunch menu is not available on sundays). Service is crap. We've tried them a couple times now, so it's not a fluke experience. Service is always really slow. But they are also not very nice. They forgot our drink order. Ok no big deal, I asked for our check sans drink. They ignore that request so I ask again and finally they act like they did me a favor by removing what I never got from my bill. This last time though, they just put us in a corner and ignored us. We left.
google avatar

Steven C.

Yelp
I'm a fan of this place. I have come with sons quite often and find it to be one of the few places that does Chinese and sushi acceptably. Tonight I was flying solo. Hot n Sour to start and it was good. Followed with sashimi and Uni. The fact that they offer Uni is a huge plus in my book. Friendly staff, good food will have us coming back.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
Sushi is great but can be a bit pricy if you want it any way other then the way they have it on the menu. Always fresh and decent
google avatar

Bill R.

Yelp
Very good food at Sushi Joy. Fresh ingredients. Very friendly staff. They do a great job with take out. We eat here 2-3 times each month.

Yelp
I'm new to the area and was in the mood for Chinese food. Saw that this place does it, so I dropped by. Plenty of parking on a Tuesday afternoon around 3 PM. It was not busy at all inside, which was great. Upon entrance, I was immediately impressed with the interior. It was better than I had expected. The decor meshed well and the seats were great. The staff was tremendously friendly and attentive. I decided to order General Gau's Chicken to dine-in and to order Sesame Beef for take-out. Both dishes were clean-looking and the chefs seemed to use high quality ingredients. However, the taste left something to be desired. Maybe it was too clean? ;) If I'm in the mood for Chinese again, I'll try another restaurant. Otherwise, I'll be back to try their Japanese!

Shelly L.

Yelp
It's alittle werid having paper plates but the food is amazing.. Great bar tender she is incredibly personable

Lisa C.

Yelp
Even though I've been coming to Sushi Joy for years, I've only had the Japanese food here because I love it. Great bento lunches. Really good value. Dinner is not such a good value. The food is still good, but prices are high for dinner. Also, the service is inconsistent. Sometimes service is fine. Other times not so much. I keep going back for the lunches tho.
google avatar

NellyD R.

Yelp
This was a great find. Family is camping in Plymouth Massachusetts and we found this great place. The food was incredible. We tried both regular Chinese food appetizers as well as sushi. The spicy tuna and Krazy roll we're outstanding. Will definitely hit this up next time I'm in the area

MJ V.

Yelp
I can't express my disappointment enough.. I vacation to Plymouth every year and look forward chrissie's Mai Tai's. I ordered one when we were there last week and it just wasn't the same. The prices have increased and I swear the portions got smaller too.
google avatar

Kendra E.

Yelp
My Order: $9.58 unagi bento box lunch price PROS: - Take out available - Waiting area consists of a comfy couch and bowl of tootsie rolls - Bar stocked with wines and hard liquor - Nice decor, not busy, plenty of parking - No wait for food (less than 10 minutes on a Tuesday @ 3pm) CONS: - Plentiful but such a let down. The unagi had tiny bones in it and the miso soup lacked flavor. The mini salad was okay while the California roll & tempura were the highlights of my dish. I craved for sushi and I'm still craving it after dinner. I really wanted to find a place on my way back home from work that could fill my tummy with happiness. Better luck next time I guess. Should I try something different?

Mary B.

Yelp
Hello, We have been coming here for years. The food is great. Selection of sushi is awesome, hence the restaurant name. In the last 6months to a year the service has gone downhill. We feel rushed and hurried. The waitstaff are not pleasant. It is more like they are bothered that we come in. They drop the plates down on our table. They do not refill drinks. When they drop the check on the table, they are too quick to pick it back up. We hadn't even looked at it yet ! We will not be returning Thank you
google avatar

Andrew N.

Yelp
Have gone here for years and always found it good to excellent. Within the last six months to a year this place has gone down hill. It's horrible. Food is ok but service is pathetic. Wait staff sucks. They are rude, arrogant, impatient and incompetent. Stay far away from this place.
google avatar

Ele F.

Yelp
On a whim, I visited this place and had the Chirashi. The fish was large portions, quality mid grade and the rice was plain white rice, not sushi rice. This isn't a place to go for a Japanese dinning experience, however it is a place you will get good portion, quality for the price.

David J.

Yelp
I have been here several times. I always get Sushi and find it inconsistent in preparation. Flavors are good and portions standard. Service is very aloof. I always feel they want me to eat and scoot. Other menu items are good but nothing to write home about. Typical Americanized Asian food. Hit the City for the real deal. One of my favorites Gourmet Dumpling on Beach St.

Nancy N.

Yelp
Food was delicious and presentation was lovely! All servers were masked and very polite
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
Super gross. We went for lunch because we had a gift certificate. So disappointed in our tidbit platter and chicken pad Thai. Everything lacked flavor. The pad Thai was watery with rubbery chicken. The tidbit plate had average crab Rangoon, fatty boneless ribs, and a bland spring roll. So glad our bill total was the exact amount of our gift certificate. Will not return.

Yelp
I come here every Tuesday to have lunch with the bartender, Chrissy. She's a sweetheart and always takes great care of me. The food here is delicious. I've never had a bad meal or anything close. I'm very picky about sushi and this makes the cut. Great flavors. It's exactly what you expect from good sushi. Come in and sit at the bar. You'll have a great time.

Denise P.

Yelp
I used to go years ago when they were new. Back then and food and service was great. But something has changed. The Food is usually fresh but NOW consistently the staff is angry and generally annoyed with customers. Its palpable. I cant figure out why. I DRED CALLING THEM SOMETIMES FOR TAKE OUT. Anyone else feel this way? They seems annoyed that they even have to answer the phone.

Bianca P.

Yelp
This was my first time ordering sushi through take out so I wasnt too sure of what the name was for the sushi I like. So I order something which had the same ingredients. I picked up my order and realized its not what I had intended to order fair enough I ask to order another order the lady at the counter basically shooed me away while another employee was trying to help me find something similar. I was not rude or anything but a first time customer who was willing to pay for the second order. Wont order again

Kathy C.

Yelp
I'm wondering if this place has changed hands. It used to be great, but the last couple of times it was a major disappointment. They changed the menu, taking away a lot of our favorite dishes. The house special fried rice, which used to be moist and flavorful, is now dry and tasteless. Same with the lo mein (how does one even make dry lo mein?). And can we talk about the price increase?...$79 for takeout for two people, really? And we didn't order anything expensive - just some apps, rice and lo mein! Total ripoff. We will not be back.

Art F.

Yelp
At sushi joy today for lunch. As always great food, drink and friendly service. If you're lucky you will eat at the bar when the Celtics are playing and Gary is Bartending! Hendricks Martini w cucumber amazing Thank
google avatar

Kristen B.

Yelp
I have been to sushi joy MANY times and have always enjoyed it. The other day I went there on lunch and sat at the bar, there was maybe 6 other people...we were handed menus and sat for 15 minutes and the bartender still had not asked us if we would like anything to drink or to put in an order so we decided to leave. Very disappointed in the service.
google avatar

Bailey M.

Yelp
Once was good. Now staff is rude and way to quick. They got my takeout order wrong and rudely went back to take it out with telling me that's what I ordered. I explained to them over the phone what I wanted exactly. When I got there to pay my total was way too much for just one roll. She told me that's what I ordered... I got home and ate my sushi but the quality is not the same as it use to be. Sad to see a nice place start to fall apart because of food quality.
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
Sushi Joy is my new favorite place for sushi in the Plymouth area. We stuck to the Japanese side of their menu on our recent first visit and enjoyed everything we ordered - especially the tetaki tuna, which is stellar here. Yummy avocado and spicy tuna rolls, light crispy tempura that didn't make me feel greasy - everything was super enjoyable. Even their mai tai was pretty good, which is rare outside of Hawaii! The space is large and attractive, and the service is great. Overall it's just really pleasant and above average for a suburban sushi place. We are also fans of New Tokyo, but I don't know if there's room in my heart for both after our great experience at Sushi Joy...we'll have to go back and compare. One important thing Sushi Joy has over New Tokyo is their lack of hibachi - so I don't even have to smell like burning meat when I leave! Bonus!

Yelp
Called in a to- go order, driving back from a snowboard weekend. Wanted a small order for a light supper for my daughter and I. Communication challenges occurred and I arrived to find an order totaling 71.00. I misunderstood the girl taking orders on the phone. Lesson learned, read the menu first rather than ordering on the phone w/o a menu. The edamame was good as was the delicious salmon sashimi and nigiri. The tuna hand roll not to my liking. Unagi was great. Still serving horrible pink dyed ginger.
google avatar

Karen F.

Yelp
We came to Sushi Joy with high hopes and once we walked in, I thought wow - what a nice place (for a strip-mall!). Prices for the lunch bento boxes were reasonable - sushi prices were on the high side. Service was fine. Decor about 4 stars. Food - just awful. My 6 year old got a perfectly fine Chicken Teriyaki bento box - but the chicken was a bit dry and had nearly no sauce (which may have been a good thing). I had the salmon bento which made me so sick about 6 hours later, I thought I was going to die. It was either that or the 2 pieces of hamachi that tasted like catfood. I could not eat the 2nd piece. Even my husband's meal - (Chinese) - "Orange Beef" came in a gloppy brown sauce and he said it "sat in him like lead". So sad. The menu looks great and the staff is very nice, but the food just didn't cut it.

Alyssa S.

Yelp
I was expecting great sushi from Sushi Joy since their location is in Plymouth, where some of the best seafood is! However, after my visit a few weeks ago, I would categorize their sushi as good, but not the best. The fish was not as fresh as other restaurants I have been to recently. However, their creative maki rolls were quite enjoyable. My date and I ordered four makimono rolls for our dinner: the Jade Roll, Spicy Tuna maki, Spicy Lobster maki, and the Kiss the Fire maki. None of these rolls were significantly outstanding, but they were still pleased my pallette. My top two would have to be the Spicy Lobster and Kiss the Fire makis. For the record, I order the Spicy Tuna maki at almost every sushi restaurant I dine in, and Sushi Joy's was not the very best I've had. Overall, I experienced average sushi with pretty good service on my visit. The restaurant is fairly large and can seat many parties. There is a full bar, but on the night we were there, the bar was out of some juices/mixers; so I didn't get my first choice drink. Rough. I was not excited about my visit to this restaurant, but I am not complete turned off either. I may come here again if I feel like sushi and am in the area...Afterall, there aren't that many places that have sushi in Plymouth! For my "Sushi" list: just under 3 stars.
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
I had been waiting for a long time for a Japanese place in Plymouth. I was excited when Sushi Joy opened. Unfortunately, I have been disappointed. They have very few vegetarian choices (2 if you count veggie sushi). The tempura is much too thick and sometimes greasy. The sushi rice is always warm. The wait staff are friendly, but often confused. If you want sushi or Japanese in Plymouth, New Tokyo is your better bet.
google avatar

H L.

Yelp
So I have never been a huge fan of combination Chinese/Japanese restaurants but for some reason, they just seem to go hand in hand around these parts. I find that in these situations neither cuisine is done well. Sushi Joy follows the pack. The sushi is very average. I also had the tempura udon. The shrimp tempura was too greasy and the batter was a bit too thick, but the soup and noodles were fine. My husband ordered the bento box of curry chicken. The curry was terrible -- watery, with bits of veggies. Hate to be disgusting here but it looked like regurgitated food. The gyoza and spring rolls were ok. What I do like is the space. It is actually quite large inside with a good size bar. A small sushi bar located at the very back of the restaurant can also accommodate a few diners. If you go, stick with the average sushi.
