After a relaxing day at home, I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to grab sushi for dinner and maybe try somewhere new to us, and we decided to try Sushi Koma. I wish I could say nicer things about this place, but after trying several menu items, I just wasn't impressed and won't be returning.
The nicest part of the restaurant is the decor. It's trendy and looks great! But that's really all they had going for them.
Service was OK, but not great. They didn't have a full house, but it took a while for servers to come by and take food orders. The folks that came by to clean up plates were very quick & thorough. Our waters were kept full, but it seemed like they didn't want to come by and take food orders. For an AYCE place, that's really disappointing.
The food is really what's giving Sushi Koma a low rating. There wasn't any consistency. I don't love seaweed, so I stick to ordering nigiri. The first plate came out and it tasted like it was marinated with a great fish to rice ratio! It was delicious, so then I ordered the same nigiri again and it was different - no marinated flavors with more fish than rice. Ugh. All of the appetizer dishes were really, really hit or miss too. Gyoza was delicious, though very oily. Cucumber salad had a dressing that was different than anything I'd had before on a cucumber salad, and it was just ok. The teriyaki beef was very, very fatty and not very tender. Seared tuna carpaccio was good. My girlfriend LOVES spicy food so she ordered several rolls off the "Spicy Rolls" menu and none of them were spicy.
Overall, it was just a really disappointing experience. I've had better AYCE sushi elsewhere in town. Sorry to Sushi Koma, but I won't be returning.
