Sushi Maru Japanese Restaurant

Food was solid. Sushi chef behind the counter was great to chat with and made me a roll with mackerel and jalapeño that was the bomb. Of the two waitresses I got the wrong one. Will go back.

Fantastic sushi restaurant, small intimate atmosphere with excellent service. High quality sushi presented beautifully.

Second time visiting Sushi Maru, and yup, it's great! We ordered veggie tempura, Las Vegas roll, and Crawfish Baked roll. It was all fresh and delicious. Definitely ate way too much because it's hard to stop! I appreciated the variety of "cooked" rolls as I'm not into raw fish. The service was extremely friendly and attentive. They checked with us multiple times and even offered to adjust the thermostat to ensure I felt comfortable! That's unheard of but so appreciated. I do wish they served sparkling water such as Topo Chico or Pellagrino, but given everything else, I can easily overlook this. Definitely recommend checking it out!

The sushi is SO fresh and delicious! Great presentation also! Didn’t get a pic of the nigiri, but the salmon and yellowtail melts in your mouth. Will definitely be back

The service the food the atmosphere was phenomenal. Unmatched for Dallas by far. I travel a lot and had sushi all over the US and I can promise you; you will not make any mistake ordering off this menu. Quality very fresh fish all around. Their yum yum sauce is not heavy like most and it’s very smooth taste; I can almost drink it. Great family restaurant and date night place. Their music choice set the whole mood. Loved the wait staff and Chef Ray! Thank you all so very much for great hospitality. Our family will be back!

Came in with my wife and my baby! They took care of us to the fullest! We came at 6:40 and their happy hour ended at 7! They gave us a little extra time for happy hour prices! We really appreciated that since we were dealing with our baby at the time! 10/10 would recommend super fresh sushi! Really good deals on beer and sake! When I tell you that the yellow tail rolls and tuna rolls were super fresh and they were huge unlike most places!! We will definitely be coming back and telling our friends! Thank you so much for a great experience! Landon was our server and he went above and beyond!

Delicious food with plenty of options. My mom got a bento box and it was a great size and came with plenty of food including soup, salad, rice, meat, tempura, etc. I got the veggie tempura sushi and I was impressed with the size of it and the fact that it also came with additional vegetable tempura - definitely a meals worth.

Each roll comes with plenty to enjoy, and the sushi is incredibly fresh and full of flavor! The staff is kind and welcoming, even while juggling phone orders and taking care of the entire restaurant. I’m really happy to have discovered this hidden gem nearby—definitely a place I’ll be coming back to!

Friendly staff and a in eclectic menu make this a nice addition to this Allen strip mall. The chicken gyoza we tried were crispy with delicate and nicely seasoned filling. The rolls were pretty large, so a good value for the price. My spicy tuna roll was very tasty and not too spicy. We'll gladly come back.

It was my first time here and I enjoyed it. The waitress was very helpful. The place was clean and the food was good. Had the hamachi Kama and some sashimi and also the waitress recommended the fried rice. It was filling and it tasted good. Come and check them out.

This restaurant is not too big but very welcoming. Nice and neatly decorated. Very warm and calm. I didn't expect too much from the food, since I believe it's a chain, but I was surprised! The gyoza and sushi we got was amazing! I had the veggie sushi and my husband the spicy tuna. Big portions. The gyoza was crispy and had a wonderful rich flavor. We were not too hungry when we went so didn't get everything we would have liked to try SO we have to go back. I know, poor me, right? Lol!

Our go to sushi spot was closed for takeout so we decided to give this spot a try! Portions were huge and the fish was delicious. We mostly got salmon dishes but it tasted fresh and I loved all the flavors. I'm glad we were able to try it out.

This is a hidden gem. Large pieces of sushi which have a high level of skill and art in each creation. Bites taste delicious. Will always come here for sushi.

Wow! So, upon walking in...I really didn't expect much. It's a very modest place w/ limited tables for seating. But, OMG....first impressions were deceiving. Our waiter was so nice, friendly & helpful. The sushi rolls were *chefs kiss*! SOOOOOOO GOOD! And huge! This is our new favorite sushi place in the area. We're excited to come back to try the whole menu.

We came here to try their lunch bento. The place is not busy, since we came in after 1:30 pm on a weekday. I ordered Salmon Teriyaki Bento and Wifey ordered Chicken Teriyaki Bento. They're delicious. Fresh Miso soup, tasted not like instant. Serving staff is good and helpful. Well decorated and lighted place. Will bring our family here next time.

We came in for a lunch and we were pleasantly surprised by how good the rolls were. The house rolls are a bargain for how large they are. These are certainly not your average sized rolls that you would expect. They aren't HUGE but they are certainly chunky boys. The speciality rolls might seem a little high on the cost but they do not go easy on the ingredients that are in them. Overall, we were very satisfied with our lunch and we will be back. Sorry, no photos this time.

Great little sushi place in Allen!! Thought I already found great sushi in Allen but then I found Sushi Maru! Ive only done take out/pick up but always is very fresh & great portions! Quick too! So nice that they have promos & customer rewards! Need that in this economy! Can't wait to dine in- looks cozy! Go here- you wont be disappointed!!

I went here at about mid afternoon on a Thursday and I would have to say they were steadily busy. It was pretty easy however to find parking and the service was great. The staff were really friendly and very attentive to your needs. The restaurant itself was very clean and is a great spot to go out with friends for lunch. I ended up getting one California roll and one Texas Roll. I really love California rolls so I really enjoyed this however for the Texas roll I wasn't a big fan. They both however were big portions and I was only able to eat half of both. It was about $30.00 for both which was not too bad - they do have lunch specials but it is only for certain items on the menu. Definitely can see myself going back here again!

this place is SO good. their rolls are the biggest I have ever seen (and I eat a LOT of sushi). their fish is so fresh. the restraining is small, can probably seat about 40ish people but it is so clean and it's nice and quiet. we had the sushi burrito, philadelphia roll, panic roll, some sort of shrimp crunchy roll, and the spicy yellow tail. this place is really great because the speciality rolls are worth the money. they are actually somehow bigger than the regular rolls. i love this place. i will 10000% be back. the waitress even warned us that the rolls are big, and she was so right. one of the best spots in DFW for sure.

Portions are large, sushi is delicious, very friendly staff, and well priced. Highly recommend. I will be returning!

Quiet and authentic. If you want loud music and overpriced sushi, this is not the place. If you want delicious food, fresh fish, excellent service, and authentic Japanese sushi, this is for you. Best in DFW by far.

Sushi Maru, did you change owners and staff? We ordered the hibachi fried rice w/2 protiens. I asked if I could pay extra for an additional protein and you told me no. Wtf???? The dish is swimming in oil. No flavor. Very little protein the chicken is dry and chew. Where are the vegetables and egg? There is always vegetables and egg in fried rice. You used to be our favorite but now you like Panda Express.

Needed to do something different for lunch other then eating pho on a super hot summer day. Allen needed a place like this. Seating is limited, but certainly worth the wait for a table. A few times I've had to sit at the bar. This area is always stacked high with styrofoam to go boxes. The first time this happened, it left me unsure if I was to wait to order with a waitress or the chef. Much confusion! I don't think I will sit at the bar after these last few times. It's annoying looking through styrofoam boxes piled 4 feet high. I recommend waiting for a table till they make sitting at the bar more pleasurable. The pieces of sushi are thick and worth the price. My bill, most times with a tip, are between $30-$35 dollars. Water only too! Hubby brought me home some items from the take home menu. Personally, I suggest you eat any sushi fresh when it's made. Otherwise, its not pretty, still good, although the pieces become shriveled in the fridge after a couple of hours. Mine looked like slugs....Unappealing for sure! I recommend that you eat here at least once! October/2021

Unassuming strip mall Japanese restaurant with excellent food. We've had the Hamachi collar, sushi, Teriyaki all better than you'd expect. My mom chooses this for her Mother's Day outing. Give them a try, I think you'll be pleased.

I got the salmon bento box and squid karaage. Food is very good. Service is impeccable. I highly recommend this place.

This is now our go-to stop for sushi. My teenage son loves their rolls and towers. He leaves so full, and it doesn't kill my wallet. Win-win.

Spicy tuna- tuna was not fresh Philadelphia- salmon was not fresh and avocados were hard Rolls were huge which I don't like- it wasn't a one bite sushi Also ordered teriyaki chicken/hibachi/ chicken were tiny chewed up pieces, fried rice was bland Restaurant smelled weird

Everything is fresh and cooked to perfection I love this restaurant !! I get there sushi and hibachi fried rice and it's just perfect everytime and the shrimp sumi

Small space in strip mall but fantastic, friendly staff and service. California roll, baked salmon roll, crunch shrimp tempura roll, Japanese nachos and combo fried rice - ALL DELICIOUS! Waitress was awesome, answered our questions about the menu and was very responsive. We went after church @ 12 and was not crowded yet. Will definitely go back!

The food was not great, we had a mix of things from the grill to the sushi and there was nothing that stood out. The chicken was over done and dry, the steak was mediocre and the fried rice was nothing to write home about. The sushi was very low quality and I have had better come out of a grocery store. Not sure where the great reviews are coming from but it was not worth making a return visit. They also need to fix the air conditioning, it was 82+ in there and only got hotter as more people showed up and they started doing heavy cooking.

Don't overlook this little sushi spot. It's located in a strip mall and can be easy to miss, but the food here is excellent. The server warned us that the rolls are enormous - challenge accepted! Everything was delicious. We didn't have to wait to be seated at 7:30 on Friday night, nor did we need to wait very long for the food to arrive. I highly recommend this place for a local date night.

This place is my family's go-to for sushi. Been there quite a few times and never disappointed. Attentive service. Close quarters seating arrangement. My only slight issue is that there is perhaps some sort of plumbing issue and the smell is a bit noticeable.

Most people come for the rolls, but their hibachi fried rice is amazing. Portion sizes are good. Service is quick and friendly.

This place is great. We got vegetable tempura as an appetizer & it was the crispiest & freshest I have had maybe ever? They also gave tempura dipping sauce which you don't normally get at a lot of restaurants!! That was very pleasant. We also got the combo fried rice, a dragon roll, a cherry blossom roll, yellowtail & egg sushi & a miso soup. All were phenomenal, but I want to call out the Dragon Roll in particular for being warm, delicious, fresh, and full. They definitely do not skimp on portions or fillings in the sushi here! & The food comes out FAST!! Yep, I will definitely come back. Just wanted to flag though that you might have to be patient with the staff if you come while it is busy- the place is small & I only saw two servers in the whole restaurant. So happy this is close to my place!

The service was fantastic. Food was so fresh. We ordered the bento boxes and there was so much food in their bento boxes for lunch. Inside was so clean. The prices are reasonable.

Service is good. Food is good. The restaurant is clean and well lit. They have a mix of common and fun rolls on their menu. Just be aware the portions are big and the rolls are too!

Their food is good but it smells like shit in here. Their grease trap or bathrooms must be backed up. It's disgusting

Nice small cozy spot. Super clean, service is good. The menu has quite a bit to choose from. I came in solo, like I often do and ordered quite a bit to try. The waitress was like are you sure? That's a lot of food... so yeah note to the waitress don't question how much someone orders. The portions are super hefty, which is rare with sushi; so that's a plus as in getting your money's worth in sushi. The presentation is very lovely. I ordered my favorite nigiri sushi; albacore, salmon and scallops spicy. (The scallops were good, but this place doesn't chop the scallops up and mix in a spicy sauce like I usually get it) I ordered the heart attack roll, which was tasty but plain. I assumed there would be more fish in it but it was mainly crabmeat and cream cheese, so for the price and description, that one was disappointing... but huge portions. The mussels were delicious, the miso soup was good as well. I also ordered a cherry blossom roll; that I misread.... Thought it didn't come with rice.... But it does. It was okay, didn't really taste the mustard sauce that was advertised on the description. (Note the sauce was served on the side; just never got to me) I do love that they serve pickled cucumbers and radishes with the sushi. All in all, I'd definitely come back to try their cooked food and try some other sushi. But unfortunately the two I ordered today weren't the greatest.

Food is great just gets hot in evening and their a/c can't keep up with the outside heat Sushi and Roma are always spot on

This place was alright all around. The food portions were said to be really big. But not at all. Salad was awful the miso soup was decent. And everything else came out pretty good but this place isn't huge. Very small place and probably won't be back. Food wasn't amazing but it was mid and pretty pricey for not being delicious

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! If I could I would give it negative stars. Server was excellent but the reason for the negative review is both my daughter and I got very sick eating there. I had the spicy scallops and with in 20 minutes of eating it I started to sweat, became light headed, and gave my mom and wife a big scare. They were trying to call 911 because I passed out at the table and when I came around to walking out I threw up right outside the door. When telling the manger what happened and advising them that they should stop serving the scallops the excuse we got was "we open a fresh one everyday". It almost cost me a ride in an ambulance. The least they could have done was pull the scallops and compensate us for the event. I guess $8.50 refund for the scallops was enough for a $100 worth of food. Then at 1AM my daughter threw up.

We had the Yaki Soba with chicken. The noodles were the thick spaghetti noodles. It was very greasy! The chicken tasted like raw fish. Awful!!

I had the Sashimi Sampler, good presentation fish was fresh. Waitress was very friendly and timely, place was clean. I will go back.

Great sushi at good prices! I had 2 rolls, summer roll (very tasty and good quantity of fish), and butterfly kisses roll which was a substantial amount of salmon/crabmeat for the price. I also ordered the salmon tower which was decent, I have had better, but I have also had worse. Definitely worth trying this sushi place out!

I already been to this place 3times, since they opened recently. Their foods and service have made me satisfied Everytime. Sushi, hibachi, teriyaki, rice bowl and ramen. They got everything. Their portions are Texas size and I could tell they use quality ingredients. I love this newly opened Japanese restaurant in Allen. Check out their lunch bento special~

Wow. Glad I found this place. Got three salmon rolls with tempura flakes and ell sauce baked they are fabulous. Also chicken teriyaki and edamame and a salad and and :). Not a small portion. They need to fix themselves so they comes up on Apple Maps on the iPhone under sushi otherwise I would of found them sooner I went cross the street to a sushi place last time. Not so great and high pricing I found them on Apple Maps looking for a sushi place but this place did not come up. This place it's so much better. Plus you can dine in here where across the street can't. This is my new favorite place.

My new sushi place. Second time doing carry out and they haven't disappointed. Rolls good sizes, very filling. Highly recommend trying this place out. Noodles were full of flavor, and they provided enough sauces for the rolls.

The fish here is very good. The food here comes out with care and love. I recommend their omakase. Very good and worth your money.

Great food and exceptional service! Guy who served us was by himself but he never missed a beat! Clean and cozy ambiance. We had the bento beef and chicken teriyaki, california roll and shrimp udon. Everything tasted great! Will definitely come back.

Not knowing what to eat but decided on eating something healthy, but also not wanting to cook, my husband and I decided to order Japanese takeout for dinner. We've been meaning to check out Sushi Maru for some time, because FUN FACT: our beloved puppy is named Maru (and because of this, this place is already an instant favorite). We ordered a chirashi bowl and a phone order pickup special which was 3 house rolls for only $14! We ended up choosing the salmon skin, shrimp, and tuna rolls which had 6-7 pieces each. The chirashi bowl came with rice, wakami salad, and different types of fish (including salmon, tuna, albacore, yellowtail, shrimp, and tamago egg). For about $30, this was truly a lot of food, and we enjoyed everything! The rice was really good. I would say most of the fish was fresh (except for the yellowtail, which I was a little disappointed with because I love yellowtail). The extra condiments (soy sauce, ponzu, pickled ginger, etc) were also really good to have with our meal as well. Overall, we enjoyed our last minute dinner with Sushi Maru and plan to come back for the same house roll special and other items! The hibachi plates look good as well. Mmmm. Enjoy!

Great little local sushi spot near McDermott & 75. I ordered the 3/16 deal and few other things which were good bang 4 the buck. Flavor was a little lacking but all in all would recommend if your in the mood for something different.

This place is hands down within my top 3 favorite sushi restaurants. Even their Cali rolls are better than everywhere else. The fish is fresh, service is great, they have an awesome selection of sake, and their apps are incredible. We got the squid karaage, gyozas, and miso soup to start with. Delicious. All of it. And then our party of 5 split 5 rolls. These rolls are MASSIVE. Like twice the regular size. And the pricing is about the same as most sushi restaurants. You're getting more for your buck. Highly recommend!!

A great local sushi spot in Allen. This isn't one of those places where it's 80% rice and bit of fish. They are very generous with their portions here and tastes good too! Check out their to go specials-$16 for 3 house rolls. That and an ahi tuna tower is enough for us!

Wow! This place is awesome! Cool avant-garde take on sushi presentation. We ordered the Dynamite "roll" and the salmon tower. Kudos to our server. It was our first time here and were originally planning to order 3 rolls. He said that's a lot of food for 2 people so we ended up with 2 rolls. The portions are HUGE!! We still had leftovers. But he saved us from severely over ordering! The dynamite roll is laid on its side and piled into a tower topped with bay scallops, sautéed onions and unagi sauce. Absolutely delicious!!! Our salmon tower was just huge. Bottom layer of rice with salmon and avocado layered in the middle and topped with faux crab. Drizzle of sauce and fish eggs around. Beautiful presentation and delicious!! This place is a find. Small. Non descript. In a shopping mall. Great food. Great service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
