Came here for dinner with a friend. Quiet, small restaurant with friendly staff. Food came very slowly. Everything was decent but nothing stood out and it was on the bit pricier side. Cooked eel was good and the fish was fresh. Okay choice for sushi.

Google
Very lovely atmosphere and staff. They were very sweet and attentive. We were visiting from Colorado for our honeymoon and were recommended this place, and it was the best sushi we’ve had! Next time we are back in this area, we will be sure to stop here again.

Google
A cute small restaurant, with all your normal favorites and some interesting ones. Try the soft shell crab, miso soup, and wakame salad for appetizers. For entrees, try the salmon sashimi, spicy scallops, squid, and the mixed veggie roll for the vegetarian in the party. The food come out pretty fast. The staff is friendly, and attentive. They have his and her bathrooms which are clean and large.

Google
Had calamari, salmon skin salad, and sunomono salad for appetizers and the sushi and sashimi dinner platters for lunch. Everything was delicious. The staff is courteous and attentive. The chef does a super accurate job making these dishes. He's a master of his skill, as you may witness for yourselves in this cozy, family-friendly atmosphere. I definetely recommend this place.

Google
Cute spot. Sweet staff with warm greetings. Rolls were perfect. The cucumber salad is my new favorite dish, very simple. We will be back. The place is small. That isn’t a bad thing but you might have to wait if your party is larger than two people.

We chose to come here after reading the reviews and were unfortunately disappointed. The staff was friendly, but the food came out very slowly. While we would give the nigiri a solid recommendation, the rolls were a huge bummer (the spicy rolls were far too overpowered with spices, and were incredibly small) the tempura roll coming out soggy, and a crisp-less gyoza. For 50$ a person, we would have expected a lot better :(

Good cod and nice service. Quiet and simple place. thank you

Google
Very happy to find this little hole in the wall. Excellent food, very quick and professional service, and extremely competitive quality sushi and other dishes. Very clean and an aesthetic that reminds me of a Los Angeles that doesn't exist anymore. I know one other sushi restaurant in LA that I would recommend, and I would not say it is better, but that they are equals - Kazunori. However, Sushi Mashiko is much more welcoming. This is the best sushi restaurant in Culver City and one of the best in Los Angeles County. Simple, professional, and exceedingly excellent.

Yelp
This family-owned sushi spot feels homey in the way that a small-town local spot feels. We ordered a variety of cut rolls and nigiri, and all the fish was super fresh and good quality, plus even the veggie rolls were flavorful. Service was friendly and quick, no complaints there. If you're looking for a quiet, no-frills, high-quality sushi spot, Sushi Mashiko is it.

Yelp
I am sad to hear that this place has closed. Is that a mistake? I was just there for the first time this past June 8th while visiting friends in Culver City! I guess I was lucky to have tried their appetizers - Dynamite, Shrimp Shumai, Baked Mussels, and Salmon Fish Teriyaki - before they closed!... Hopefully, they will reopen. It's a small place, maybe they're opening at a bigger location (wishful thinking)... One server was so efficient, she took the plate of the baked mussels before we got the chance to finish those strips of veggies off the plate... If they reopen and retain her, she needs to learn to ask first if she can take the plate off a table. But overall, food was still that good - 5 stars!

Yelp
i just heard the terribly sad news that Mickey closed his doors for good after being in business since 1990. I've enjoyed the amazing food and warm friendly atmosphere since 1998. I tried to drop in this past Saturday for dinner and we were turned away and only told "we are reservations only - nothing available". now i believe it was their way of saying "we're closing" without saying it. My daughter, who just graduated college and was just home and was dying to go to see Mickey-san for sushi. He's known her since she was a little girl and this is where she learned to use chopsticks. She was in such disbelief when we were turned away. I would have liked to have heard the news any other way but on their website. My family has had so many great memories here and Mickey-san always asked about my family and remembered something about everyone. It the end of an era and I want to thank Mickey for his delicious food and making so many wonderful memories for us.

Yelp
The salmon was like BUTTER! I know the family from my Buddhist practice and the service was friendly and warm. The atmosphere relaxed and supportive for the extraordinary experience of dining there --so sorry it has to close!

Terry Z.

Yelp
Im Blake This was my childhood place mickey (sorry if i spelt it wrong) was so nice he even gave me a beanie last year it closed and my dad and i was so sad miss you mickey.

Brooke P.

Yelp
Sorry we found this great restaurant just before the owners retired. At least we had a couple of good meals there.

Annie M.

Yelp
Small cozy place, friendly atmosphere enhanced by decor. I love the sushi clock! We had the sashimi salad and sashimi plate dinner, both full of lovely cuts of fish. Very busy at dinner time, so limited interactions with servers, but they are attentive to your needs.

Karon M.

Yelp
I was looking for you yesterday and realized you are no longer there. How sad to lose this gem. Who will have the grace and joy...and saba? I wish you the best in the future, and thank you.

Joshua R.

Yelp
The food was great, didn't understand why they put lettuce in my rainbow roll, but that doesn't matter. The service was amazing, they were so kind it was to much for me to handle! Great place, very cool, 11/10

Yelp
I love Sushi Mashiko. When I first came across it on Yelp, I just had a good feeling about it. First off, from what the reviews said, this place has lasted for 30 years. I mean, that has to be an automatic 5 stars right? I ordered the chirashi bowl and a couple nigiri with my Asahi. Hubby got the sushi plate and about 3 nigiri as well to go with his Kirin. Our favorites? The clam, mackerel, yellowtail and TORO. That toro was smoother than BTS' butter if I do say so! I think another thing we appreciated was that the chef placed a small bit of wasabi under each fish; this is something we have appreciated in Japan and not often seen here in the states. Overall it was a great quality dinner (approx $100 total). Thanks Sushi Mashiko!

Camila V.

Yelp
Great find! The sushi was delicious and felt authentic. Will be coming back again. I highly recommend this place.

Nicolle C.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and this place is a gem. They servers all great you when you get in and make sure they thank you before you leave. The food is extremely high quality sushi and very well priced. Make sure you stop by and try their hot sake too :)

Vicki D.

Yelp
The people there are very nice. The sushi is fresh and the gyoza is perfect. They make a great dynamite. I wish it was open for lunch, at least on the weekends. The service is very good.

Don B.

Yelp
This is a small family owned restaurant with an amazing dining experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the sushi chef was outstanding. Every sushi roll we ordered was very flavorful and put together very well. This was one of the best meals we had on our trip to L.A. Next time we travel here we will definitely return.

Sergio F.

Yelp
Good sushi here. Kind of slow at times. They have a limited sake list. No shochu like the other sushi places I go to.

Scarlett H.

Yelp
A lovely old (30+ years) and small neighborhood sushi place run by lovely people. We came on a Sunday night and it was full - customers seem genuinely happy and there's a relaxed old town ambiance. However, the wait was quite long, there was a small mistake in our order and the appetizer didn't come until we were done eating. Food quality was okay. Nothing wrong but nothing super impressive. Prices were reasonable for the west side. Parking was super nice as they are in this huge mall (Ralph is the anchor store). This place does remind me of decades ago when sushi restaurants were run by new immigrants from Japan with traditional menu items. There aren't that many of them anymore.

Brandan H.

Yelp
Take out only! Quant little mom and pop sushi joint that tends to get overlooked in a shopping plaza that needs some much needed renovations and traffic restructuring. The restaurant in itself is very small and intimate, like most straight forward sushi bars. When you could dine in the vibe was a bit jazzy with a low light atmosphere and a warmth that made it clear this is a community hotspot. The sushi is so fresh and is very clean on the palette. Pro tip: I'm very picky about sushi and tend to tell a place is good by their ginger. Fresh, not too sweet and has a bit of a zing. They have great ginger! Hits: - Albacore - buttery and smooth - Shrimp sushi - just so fresh - scallops - delicious and creamy - Spicy Tuna - very good - California hand roll - get it spicy (thank me later) - Shrimp tempura roll (eel sauce on the side) Top to bottom all items are great. Mickey the chef is awesome and the family running it is super nice and do the best they can. Have patience with your order as they are becoming even more popular during this time and are trying to keep up. Covid safety - take out only and protective glass at the door. I'm definitely a regular.

Yelp
We come here for sushi when we are in town. What is interesting to note for visitors is that there are many loyal customers since the 90s when they opened. Sushi Mashiko has stood the test of time for 30 years!! I grew up in Culver City & sadly moved away. This sushi place is not to be missed and I miss coming here! Wonderful people running the place! Great food & service. Great local experience. The rolls are made and prepared by one sushi chef, Mickey, originally from Japan he makes the food look elegant and of course delicious. He is the owner running restaurant & making sushi over 30 yrs, very skilled. Restaurant is in shopping center by the Ralph's. Lots of good options to try out. We really like the Rainbow roll, California roll, tuna avocado roll, and the teriyaki chicken. Muy rico la comida, el lugar limpio y ordenado. Servicio bueno, gente amable. Les recomiendo. Voy volver otra vez para comer allí

Yelp
This random hole in the wall, in a strip mall, turned out to be wonderful. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed our sushi, and are so happy we found this little gem. A+.

Yelp
Wow! A truly hidden gem of a place! This is what I like for sushi. They had good service, and I was seated immediately. The place is small and casual and a bit romantic. They don't deliver, but while I was there I saw lots of locals picking up orders they called in. It's a small place, so if you're looking for it, look for the UPS store a few doors down. Inside was comfortable, kinda quiet, and mostly clean. Decor is cute and contemporary. I had the Sashimi Salad and hot green tea. Total was about $20, maybe a little more. The tea was good, no aftertaste. The salad was AWESOME with good amounts of sashimi in different varieties on it, on a large breed a fresh, crunchy salad with a vinegar based dressing mixed in. I was very full from just this, and very satisfied. Presentation of the food is attractive and thoughtful. You can tell they care about their food!

Yelp
Located in a ubiquitous American shopping mall, Sushi Mashiko is a small restaurant. One needs to be in the know, otherwise it's easy to be overseen. I am lucky enough to have a friend who lives close by and who recommended their sushi. We have ordered a few times. During the pandemic we called in the order a few hours before opening and picked up. No dining inside at that time, just picking up. The sushi was devoured so quickly that no pictures were taken! It's super fresh, classic sushi. Service is friendly as most Japanese restaurants. It's a small place, so I am glad they seem to have survived the pandemic stress so many restaurants faced and still face.

Taylor K.

Yelp
Man, I feel guilty for giving this place a 3 star, but it truly was not a good experience. It's family run, and I know they are trying their best, but it is what it is. came here on a wednesday night with a friend about an hour before close. The restaurant was empty. We both ordered chirashi bowls- the portfion was very small for $20 , and the rice was kinda sour- not fluffy and sweet the way sushi rice should be. the octopus tasted a bit rubbery and the sushi in general just tasted a bit old, like it was from the market. Won't be returning unfortunately.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Really good chirashi bowl with all the fish selections you would expect: Salmon, Tuna, Clam, Yellowtail, Octopus, Whitefish, Shrimp and Tamago all on top of delicious sushi rice. Considering that the chirashi bowl was just shy of $20 as well, makes for a great option for chirashi. Plenty of parking in the lot, and would definitely come back here!

Taya L.

Yelp
Placed an order for pickup. When I arrived the food was ready, but when it was time to pay I had to wait 20 minutes. There were only 2 other people in there. I inserted my card 5 times, swiped it 3 times, gave a different card, and tried one of their other pay systems, nothing worked. (The internet wasn't down so can't blame that). It ended with them writing my card info down and running it later. Although they were apologetic, while I was waiting they didn't offer me something to drink, or add something to my order, or any other thing businesses do to make up for mistakes on their end. And someone else walked in behind me to place an order and they just let her! Hope she had cash so she didn't have to go through what I did. The real kicker is the sushi was mid at best after all this. Wholly underwhelmed and disappointed.

Raye R.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant for years now, of late for take out for my sushi cravings. Mikey, and all the customer service, Kanai and others are very kind and helpful and the sushi is spot on fresh and wonderful.

Kira K.

Yelp
I absolutely adore this place. Friendly, simple, efficient, and reliably so so fresh and delicious. I especially love the sashimi salad and black cod. This is high quality sushi served in a local no frills fave.

Dano T.

Yelp
Great little place for sushi! The food was tasty and the service was so pleasant. Not a huge menu but they have all the sushi basics. You'll be very happy with your visit!

Terry J.

Yelp
Not great sushi at all. I like the salmon skin salad, but would not recommend the sushi

Melody W.

Yelp
Stopped by to have sushi for the first time since March! They are takeout only so I ordered and went over to the market to grab a few things while my order was prepared. Fish was very fresh and well prepared. They even tucked in a couple fried whole shrimp (so good! Better than shrimp tempura!), which was a nice surprise. My only complaint is that the rice was mushy, but I'm picky about rice and it was not 100% fresh by the time I picked it up, brought it home, and sat down to eat it. Can't wait to try again once I can dine in.

Lisa L.

Yelp
First time here and thankfully arrived (6 pm on a Friday) early because it filled quickly. I had warm sake, several sushi rolls, and oysters. Everything was fresh and delicious. I'll definitely return.

Jay J.

Yelp
I've been to many sushi bar before, But this place is the best so far ! I sat on a bar, ordered sushi from a daily prepared fish. Rice & Sushi was bigger in size compare to other sushi place I've been to, and taste of a sushi.... WOW ! it melted right before you even chew on it !! Soft texture with flavor of fish itself continue to flow ! I would come back for a dinner next time for sure. Thank you for Great Sushi !

Regina N.

Yelp
Trying a local spot to begin my new Friday fish night - sushi vs. my old fattening standard fried fish. Had their mix Maki and caterpillar roll - with their miso soup. The miso was rich, the rolls were fresh, elegant and satisfying. Definitely returning soon!! Service in this Covid19 world was friendly, prompt and very much appreciated! Bravo!

Linda C.

Yelp
This food was delicious! Everything is yummy and authentic Japanese! A hidden gem in this neighborhood.

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Was having a crazy craving for sushi and/or Japanese food. I didn't want to travel too far, and Sushi Mashiko was literally 5-10 minutes away from my apartment. With all the great reviews, I had to come try it out for myself. One thing, the address on this is misleading. If you use Google Maps to get directions, it leads to you to a residential community. Sushi Mashiko is actually in the Ralph's and Denny's shopping plaza, closer to the back. We walked in, and I loved that the decor was simple and comforting, very small and quaint. It felt like you were going into your friend's dining room. We decided to sit at the sushi bar. The chef was right behind the fish cases, going about his business. I decided to get the Chirashi, my friend got a number of rolls. Since there is only one sushi chef, the food can take a little bit of time. However, there weren't many people in the restaurant, so our food didn't take too long. I first had some miso soup and then happily went to town on my chirashi. The fish tasted really fresh and was delicious. I was kind of bummed that it only included one piece of each type of fish, but that's okay. The sushi rice had all the right flavors, and he even added some of the seaweed flake/sesame toppings to give it a kick. My friend inhaled his sushi, which led me to believe that he enjoyed his meal. Towards the end of our meal, the waiter started talking to us. He asked us our names and wanted to know if we were Japanese (neither of us are). He seemed like a sweet old man, who did this for a living because this was what he loved. I will definitely be back to try all the other items on the menu. I had a great time chatting it up with the chef.

Koel B.

Yelp
Not a fan. I went there excited to try a new place, and was even happier when I discovered it was a mom and pop shop! But it really didn't perform for the price. I ordered the deep-fried crab which tasted oily, fishy, and gross. The nigiri was not the best quality either. The uni was salty. My fiancé and I both came home feeling a little nauseated.

Nina C.

Yelp
My family and I used to come here fairly frequently when I still lived in Westchester. I went home for a visit and my parents suggested we have dinner at Mashiko. It had been years since my last visit, but I'm happy to report it was just as good as I remember. Mashiko is a small, but welcoming, Japanese restaurant. The same sushi chef has worked there for many years. This time, my mom and I shared a few plates of nigiri sushi (mackerel, yellowtail, and salmon roe) and entrees (teriyaki black cod and mixed tempura). My dad ordered the chicken bento box and my friend had the hot udon soup. We also shared an order of cucumber octopus salad (tako-su) and edamame. Everything was fresh and tasty and the prices are very reasonable. I am happy this neighborhood business is still going strong in Culver City. I look forward to returning.

Mark C.

Yelp
You know... After writing so many Yelp reviews, I find it particularly difficult to write about average places. There's nothing about the place that stands out; either negatively or positively. Sushi Mashiko is one of those places: average. I came in for some lunch and got myself their lunch special which was 8 pieces of California rolls, a bowl of salad, and a bowl of miso soup. They add thousand island dressing to their salad, but it wasn't scrumptious enough for me to finish it. The miso soup could have been better... And the rolls itself weren't anything extraordinary either. This "special" cost me $11 which included the tip. The service was stellar, but there was only two customers, myself included, so it's expected that service should be at least above-average.

Jean A.

Yelp
Small restaurant, only doing take out now due to COVID. I had sushi on the spur of the moment. I had California Roll, Ebi nagri and Unagi Avocado roll. All were excellent, as was the miso soup. A bit more wasabi, a bit less ginger would be nice, but that is a personal preference and I forgot to mention it. On me. Service was fast, even though they had a huge order in front of me. Very friendly as well. Really good, well priced, local. It felt so good to do something normal. My thanks to them for giving me that experience. Go there and support a local business.

Mahon L.

Yelp
Great authentic sushi, and it's a family ran business. Very reasonably priced too! Definitely will be coming back.

Chanette D.

Yelp
I absolutely love this sushi restaurant! I love the relaxed quite atmosphere & how the sushi chef greets everyone as if they're old friends (whether he knows them or it's a new customer). Sushi is always fresh & the restaurant is clean & pleasant. Reminds me of my years on Guam USA

Kimi L.

Yelp
Great service, great sushi! Very sweet people running the place and will definitely come back! We were sat right away, drinks/food ordered & appetizers were all great! Leaving with happy & full bellies!

Robert F.

Yelp
Just moved back to LA. From NY. and back to my favorite west coast Sushi bar and I have to say that the sushi bar has been in business for over 25 years and it's just as good as it was 25 years ago and better. It's the best kept secret in Culver City California. The name of the sushi bar is Mashiko the corner of little strip mall of Overland and Jefferson, if you find it, you're lucky people! it's a five-star place with a mom and pop operation!!! it's lovable and really friendly that's all I can say! - Bobby

Dapper L.

Yelp
The entire experience was amazing last night. We can't wait to come back and try other things on the menu! We were seated right away. We had a couple of questions and were given good recommendations. The miso soup, shrimp shumai and black cod were delicious appetizers. We also ordered the Scallop, shrimp tempura, yellowtail, spicy tuna with avocado rolls. They had a lot of flavor and weren't jam packed with rice. Our waitress was really nice and you could feel the family vibe.

Mirna T.

Yelp
Food is amazing!!! I love the sushi, love the hot items and salads!!! Everything is great, the people and service are so wonderful! The chef is quiet and has been here for over 28 years but super nice when you get to know him! It's a small mom and pop, authentic and isn't about all the fusion Japanese foods! You know a place is good when they can make great rice!!! I definitely recommend this restaurant! It's super authentic and people are so nice! Love everything about it!!!!

Christie K.

Yelp
Came here over a year ago for the first time and thought it was pretty good but never came back until recently. I had been too enamored with Sugarfish and Kazunori to venture out all these years which kept me away from exploring most other sushi places. Over the last few weeks though, this has become my go to place for a simple sushi dinner. We usually come after 8pm and there's never a wait. The fish is fresh, the sushi rice is goooooood and the owners are nice. Plus it just feels nice to support a local business. The only downside is that the food can take awhile to come out but what do you expect from one single sushi chef working the whole restaurant. I give the old man props btw. Just don't come when you're strapped for time and you'll be good.

Dan G.

Yelp
Well, it was my second time going here. I really wanted it to be good because it is right by my house. I ordered 4 rolls. 1 was good, 2 were ok, and 1 was not good. The 1 that was good was pretty simple - spicy tuna - and hard to screw up. One of the ones that was just ok was a caterpillar roll - one of my favorites, normally. This time though it was doused with the eel sauce and that sauce tasted funny. It affected the overall taste of the roll. The other one that was just ok was a softshell roll - my biggest complaint about it was that it was mostly rice with very little crab. Finally, the roll that was not good was a rainbow roll. I am not sure what they put in it to give it such a strong after taste but boy did it ruin the taste of the roll. I think it was some of the filler they used which may have even been clover. It didn't taste good whatever it was and ruined the roll. The pros - the service was good and it didn't take them long to get me my food. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this restaurant. What I paid for my four rolls I could have paid elsewhere for much better quality.

Benjamin L.

Yelp
This is three star strip mall sushi. I went with two stars here because the price was not in line with the quality. I spent $50 on 1 split sashimi, 2 nigiri, and a spicy tuna hand roll. That is too much in light of the quality. Also they refused to do any substitutions on a basic sashimi bowl which seemed ridiculous. So first, salmon and albacore were ok. They tasted bland and like they may have been a tad old. The yellowtail was definitely thee highlight, it was delicious. The spice tuna was also solid. This is decent 3 star sushi at a 4-5 star price.

Cindy C.

Yelp
Holy shit this is literally the WORSE sushi I had this year or maybe in past 5 years. Omg how does this place have 4 stars?!? I am utterly confused. I assume it's people who aren't nigiri eaters?? Or haven't had good sushi before. This is literally soooo bad. I never had sushi this bad. Omg so much for trying out a new place and supporting them. NEVER COMING BACK!!!!!!!!!!! First of all I called and ordered they said it will be ready 20-30 minutes and they made me wait another 18 minutes and there was no one else there. The staff were nice but customer service still sucked. I saw the head chef take off his mask in middle of making sushi too. Talk about risky. Overall I did not enjoy the sushi at all. I would rate it a zero if I could. We could hardly finish the sushi it's SO BAD we struggled to eat it. Honestly I'm considering like disputing the charge Bc it's soooooooooooooooo bad.
