Atlanta Food Writers Name Their Favorite Atlanta Restaurants of 2021 | Eater Atlanta

"This congenial sushi restaurant also includes a selection of traditional izakaya dishes and bento boxes as well as shochu and cocktails on its menu. Make sure to check out the chef’s specials here, too. This is a regular spot for chef Thip Athakhanh, owner of Snackboxe Bistro, to dine in between shifts at her restaurant each week." - Beth McKibben

This is an excellent Japanese restaurant with fresh fish, clean restaurant, kind service, and reasonable prices. Located in Peachtree Corners it's about a 35 minute drive from where we live but the drive is worth it. Came here with my family after watching a movie at Mall of Georgia and enjoyed our entire meal from start to finish. Here's what we ordered: *Edamame *Beef loin *Bacon scallop *EBI fry *Okonomiyaki Toro power roll Toro nigiri and gunkan Negiri premium Chirashi Miso ramen All dishes were excellent but we found the Okonomiyaki was a little on the heavy side so we didn't finish that and took it to go. Parking is plentiful and this place definitely fills you up! I can see why this restaurant has been around for a while and also why they are so highly rated. Sushi Mito has become one of our most memorable and enjoyed Japanese meals in Georgia and for that I'd like to award them with this glowing review and 5 solid stars! Thank you for a truly outstanding meal. Domo arigato!

Absolutely spectacular. The ambiance is a mirror image of what you’d fine in a restaurant in Kyoto. But the real all-star is the food. Everything is delicious. Highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

After almost 2 years in the South, a Japanese restaurant to write family about! (And I will say that it’s not fair because I used to work at Sushi Hiroyoshi in Las Vegas and I’ve been spoiled and biased ever since!). This spot imports their fish from Japan and the taste of the fish supports that. The ramen is on point and the broth is great as we prefer either a veggie broth or clear chicken broth and they provide a wonderful and “hug” inducing chicken broth! The agedashi tofu was good- above average, just a bit more smothered than I can truly appreciate. The daikon and ginger grated topping was definitely plentiful and loved that. The March 2025 tuna specials are up and we shared the negitoro roll and Toro nigiri- melted like butter! Happy to have finally found a spot that is only 30 mins from us and cuts down on the travel needed to head back to Las Vegas, or continue daydreaming about that Japanese food tour in Jaoan! Thanks Sushi Mito- excited for the laughing and joking from the Japanese sushi chefs to the laughing and family dinner time for the folks around us!

This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants that I make sure to go to whenever I’m in the area. The menu has a wide variety of dishes, and everything I’ve tried from their sushi bento sets to their katsu curry rice is delicious. Additionally, they have affordable lunch prices especially for the amount of food you get. The service is top notch with very friendly staff that makes sure you are taken care of throughout your dining experience.

The service was impeccable. We were immediately greeted, seated, and waited on. The food came out quickly even though it was busy. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. The food was enjoyable for what it was priced at. It was lacking a little flavor in my opinion. I do want to come back and try a few more dishes. We got the pork belly skewers, sweet potato/yam, yakisoba, and some sushi rolls. The drink was $8 and not particularly tasty but fine for a random night. I enjoyed the Sake, it was strong. The environment was nice. Overall an enjoyable experience and curious to see if maybe we just needed to try a different set of dishes for flavor.

Great atmosphere with an authentic feel and overall vibe. The food was great and I recommend trying whatever is seasonal.

I ordered Chirashi Don and the sashimi and sushi rice are both fresh and delicious! Will come again with my friends! My friend ordered Ramen but I don’t think ordering Ramen here is a good idea. The small Udon is good too!

Google
Party of 8, we had a private room right at the front desk. The foods were amazing. The menu is very extensive, love the colorful photos. The dishes came out just like the photos. We tried everything. Fishes were high quality. Rolls were great. Vegetables tempura were very good, the shrimp tempura was average. The soft shell crab salad was a favorite, so was the toro. Desserts were awesome. 2 thumbs up.

Yelp
We finally visited after years of promising to see if all of the great feedback was valid, and we were not disappointed! As with most sushi joints, it's not an inexpensive experience, but unlike most sushi joints, this one truly delivers an outstanding product! For instance, the premium toro dishes were made with legitimate toro, not some approximation that costs more than regular tuna.

Yelp
Now that was lovely. Had an impromptu birthday celebration with some friends and had an excellent time. First of all, you should definitely make reservations. Host staff and servers were all friendly and thorough. You can tell they want to be sure you have an excellent experience. The internal environment is comfortable, with Japanese stylings, and is quiet. It was easy to hold our conversation without competing with music or crowd-noise. But if the staff and the comfort of this place isn't enough, you will find yourself in appreciation of the food. We went to have sushi. I was pleasantly surprised to find an izakaya menu alongside the sushi which provided all manner of Japanese cuisine and comfort foods. You'll be able to get everything from very traditional sushi to innovative sushi rolls, to Japanese curry, tonkatsu, or ramen. And I haven't even had the saké. I'm looking forward to my next visit. Holler if you're coming with.

Yelp
My favorite sushi restaurant in our neighborhood!Don't let the bland exterior and shopping center fool you. This restaurant is perfect for private lunch or dinners. Every table has its own very private booth. There is also a bar area for more casual seating. The food here is fresh and delicious. They have a variety of "bento" entrees if you're feeling a bit of everything. My personal favorite is the Lady's Bento. Service is always amazing. Very friendly and fast. Prices are reasonable. Definitely a neighborhood favorite!

Yelp
Very fresh sushi and lots of options in the menu like udon soups, bento boxes, skewers. Large parking lots with lots of seating inside. It gets busy so get there early!

Yelp
Sushi Mito is a solid Japanese restaurant. It's located in a little strip plaza right across the street from Publix in a small plaza. Parking can be a little crazy during rush hours. We arrived promptly after they opened for dinner service, as we heard it gets packed - and it sure did! A crowd started trailing in after we were seated. We ordered a few things to all share.. Nigiris are always my go to, the UNI was so sweet and tasted SUPER fresh. OTORO and Sweet Shrimps are AMAZING! The volcano roll here is always a hit for my kids s Overall, from the service, presentation, and quality was stupendous.

Yelp
My family's favorite sushi place. The ambiance is really nice with booths. Service is on par and very attentive. Kids got salmon bento and tempura and husband got the soba nigiri combo. I got the roll and nigiri combo (was too hungry and didnt take pic of mine). This place is authentic meaning they do Japanese dishes very very well while mess up on americanized Japanese like cream cheese or fried rolls. I also got the ladys lunch last time and it came with mini chirashi and it was also very delicious. Their soba was done right where it was cooked to perfection. I just it was closer to buford/suwanee area~ having to drive 40 min with kids for a meal prevents us from going as often. We have peanut and treenut allergies and we ate here without any reaction.

Yelp
Very good sushi, and really Japanese people (owners are Japanese), I think his daughter is working at receptionist, and so nice and friendly. The food arevery reasonable price and i can't wait to eat there next time. They just had new renovation too.

Yelp
Went back to try Udon! Wow!!!!! So good! Service so good! We love Mito! Kitchen closes at 2 pm on Sunday.

Yelp
Amazing Japanese food and wonderful lunch at Sushi Mito! We love the green tea, salad, and miso soup served as appetizers. Then, the various bento boxes including the ladies lunch has a variety of food. I also recommend the sashimi and tempura set or the chicken teriyaki! I recommend for a cozy ambience and consistent service.
google avatar

Kelly T.

Yelp
The food was wonderful!! We were seated in a booth area which was still spacious surprisingly. Everyone in my party got the Lady's Lunch except for myself, and we all truly enjoyed our meals. For appetizers, we got the spicy crunchy salmon roll, the volcano roll, and the bacon wrapped scallops. All the food items we got were delicious, and the portions were generous. 10/10 would recommend this place to other people.

Yelp
Came here with a party of 5 for a quick work lunch. The restaurant itself had a nice intimate ambiance and nice tasteful Japanese design. They had a wide variety of lunch items with a great value. I got the sashimi lunch platter. It came with soup and salad, not of which were a great way to start the meal. The fish itself tasted very fresh and the rice paired well with it. The service was a bit slow but still very kind and good. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
One of my favorite spots for Japanese food in ATL! I love sushi mito, from the ambiance, service and especially the food. They have many Japanese dishes including sushi, udon, curry, etc. Everything I have tried here has been great, and the quality has kept up over the years.

Yelp
Really nice sets, service was fast, food was tasty and filling! Both sets came with miso soup and salad

Yelp
The menu offers a diverse selection, catering to both sushi connoisseurs and those new to the world of Japanese cuisine. Whether you're a fan of traditional favorites or eager to try something new and innovative, Sushi Mito has something to satisfy every palate. The service was impeccable, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff that added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. The waitstaff was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that every need was met promptly. Moye Colquitt / digital sense 2024

Yelp
Mine and my son's favorite restaurant. We eat here about once a week. Food and service is always good especially their bento boxes and lunch sets. Hendrix is the best!

Yelp
Loved the sushi and the service. Sushi menu is elaborate and I've tried 6 different rolls this far and all have been fabulous.

Yelp
As of writing this, sushi mito is my new go to sushi place. I was impressed with the food and the service. Hendricks was our waiter and was so kind and jovial and attentive. He made the dining experience all the more pleasant for us. Sushi mito knows how to do sushi. The fish was clean and delicious and served at the appropriate temperature and was cut the perfect thickness. Get the toro and otoro sashimi platter. My mouth was watering during every stage of this from the anticipation to having that first bite legit melt in my mouth. It was some of the best toro I've had for the price point. Their menu has different combination of items which allows a lot of flexibility of choice. While it can be overwhelming it was organized well and allowed the diner to choose their experience. We got four rolls which were solid. Diverse enough in flavor and texture profile but i would probably try some new ones next time. The orange blossom roll was probably my favorite of the four. The caterpillar roll i wish had cucumber of some crunch to add complexity of texture. I'm not a fan of sriracha on my sushi rolls so would likely not get the dynamite roll again personally. The happy roll was huge and had so much fish in it. The fish in all the rolls was in chunks and not just mashed up piecemeal which was a refreshing aspect that i have not always had at other casual sushi places. Loved every bite and can't wait to come back. Also their water tasted good. Usually places and people overlook the taste of their water but to me it makes a difference. High marks all around. 100% will be back many times.

Yelp
I've eaten at Mito at least once a month for quite a long time, their food is always tasty and fresh, as well as reasonably priced. I've tried their Bento boxes, Nigiri, Udon, roll combos...they're all outstanding. It's my favorite sushi within striking distance from my Peachtree Corners office.

Yelp
Came here multiple times over the past year or so. I have consistently gotten one thing here - a positive experience that invites me to come back time and time again. Their menu would suit any taste palate that comes your way. I personally love indulging in their tempura udon, yum yum roll (both because it's ascetically pleasing and YUM!) I believe the portion and taste to price ratio just screams value. Yes, their dinner menu is huge, some may say it's overwhelming, but I love options. It's also another excuse to come back to try another new item. The inside is elegantly simple. Noise ambience is quite normal despite it being so busy with other patrons. Service is impeccable as you have multiple servers running around. I've been seated in the furthest corner of the restaurant and still had great service. You have servers from other tables just oversee if your table needs anything as they pass by. Overall, I think you can't ever go wrong with Sushi Mito. They are usually packed so just be mindful of the wait times.

Yelp
This is turning out to be one of our favorite places to go for a Japanese lunch. We came here to celebrate Mother's day and it did not disappoint. The quality of the food is great, prices are better than most other places, service is fantastic, and ambiance is cozy. Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Ajay H.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but the food is really unimpressive particularly given the higher prices they charge. We ordered 8 rolls of various types and 3 entrees. So, we certainly had a variety to taste test. The fish was chewier than normal in most cases. I did bite into a bone once, but that can be forgiven. I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 because service was good and friendly. I would not recommend this place to friends. There are better options all around Atlanta.

Yelp
We had a very good experience at this restaurant from the wait staff, food and management. We went for my husbands birthday and all the food and service was perfect. One person in our party does not eat sushi but there are plenty of other items that they were excited to try. Please give them a try and you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
I started a monthly mom date here with the moms at my sons school. Food is great for the price. We always love all of our orders, very warm and cozy place to eat and chit chat. We'll be back next month!

Yelp
Food is amazing! Excellent sushi. Service is good. Parking is tight in this plaza so I have a hard time navigating and parking my F-150, just fyi.

Yelp
Had a very unique experience during my visit here. FOOD: I think this place was way too hyped up for me or I just chose the wrong menu but I was very disappointed in the quality of food. The curry was really watery and tasted a bit off. Seems to have been right since I got sick later on that day. The tempura was so also very oily. The agedashi tofu and steamed egg was soft and flavorful though. It was just unfortunate that the main dishes were not up to par. SERVICE: When I went, it was very hectic. They were understaffed so service was very slow and we only got to order after 20 minutes of sitting there. Unfortunately, there was also a power outage which led to even more chaos since the POS systems were down and they couldn't get the bill for customers. I give props to the staff for trying their hardest to get things running back to normal. Overall, I think I just came on a really off day so I hope to be able to try it again soon.

Yelp
Ever since I visited Tokyo a few years ago I've been wanting to eat a traditional Japanese breakfast. Sushi Mito's bento boxes are the closest thing I can get and I was pleasantly pleased. We visited on a Friday afternoon 30 minutes before lunch was over. We quickly ordered bento boxes and the portion sizes are huge. I had the salmon bento with tempura and it was delicious. I wanted to try the lady lunch with looks like a traditional breakfast but panicked and got the salmon teriyaki lol. I can't wait to go back and try the lady lunch.
google avatar

Brettny J.

Yelp
I got abunch of food for a group of people to-go. I ordered a cali roll for myself, which wasn't in the order. But we got the right amount of items, so I think they did another spicy salmon instead. The spicy salmon was really good.
google avatar

Gavin N.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi place in Georgia! Love the sushi here very high quality and delicious. There is so many options to choose from and all of them are so good!
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Second time here at Japanese restaurant, we like their Una Don which is eel and flavor rice. We also order salmon Benton for lunch , delicious ! miso soup and salad are accompany with my lunch . We recommend this local restaurant in Norcross for you. Service was attentive order green tea and environment was quiet nice and very comfortable with air condition in this hot weather.

Jessica K.

Yelp
First time and will definitely not be the last! Went in with a group of 6 including 1 toddler and were accommodated quickly even without reservation. Portions were more than enough, so come with an empty stomach and an open mind if you don't eat authentic Japanese food often. We love raw fish and Japanese cuisine so everything was enjoyable. Prices for quality was fair. This was just mine and hubby's side of the food spread. Highly considering coming back for lunch. I tried reserving online and none of the phone numbers seemed to work, called and suddenly automatically disconnected. Hoping management has fixed it since my February visit since I'm writing this late review.
google avatar

Yelp
Up until recently, this place was one of my favorite Japanese spots, but my last visit was disappointing. My mom and I bother order a set. My mom got hers and I didn't get mine until she was done with her food. No one came to check on us when I was still waiting on my food, in fact, I couldn't even get anyone's attention. When I got my food, no apologies or explanation. My set that came with udon and the broth was weirdly sweet, and I did not enjoy it at all. The sashimi was alright. I would understand if they are shortstaffed, but at least let me know what's going on. I didn't know if they forgot about my food or the kitchen is delayed. It'll be a while before I come back unfortunately.
google avatar

Jordan L.

Yelp
Very homey and low key spot with solid food. Good service too. We got one of the udon, the katsu curry, and some sushi rolls and it was a good amount of food for 3. Keep it up!

Ayumi C.

Yelp
Great food with friendly service. The quality of the food is outstanding. We go there once a week!
google avatar

Karla C.

Yelp
It's been a while since I have been there, but this was a solid Japanese restaurant. We had a late dinner so we were starving and might have ordered more than we should have from the menu, but it allowed for us to try multiple things. The food was very delicious, and we did not have to wait long to be served. The prices can be a little up there, but the vibe of the restaurant and staff was great. Loved the sushi, it was fresh and tasty as were the appetizer size dishes.
google avatar

Le Q.

Yelp
This is a reliable place for Japanese fare. It's our third visit. The sushi rolls are fresh but bluefin tuna nigiri was JUST ok. The agedashi tofu tasted better the first time we came, when it was less busy. The mushroom skewers weren't well seasoned or juicy but they were fresh. There is one person in our group who is vegetarian. The rice sticks were good and they hit the spot. The curry portion is huge but it is always good. The service is excellent but you might want to come during less busy times. We were four and it was hard to get our server's attention. We will return because we live OTP and the food is reliable and fresh with excellent service.

Yelp
A very solid place with a great price point , but not "amazing" enough so that I'll trouble myself to go out if my way..so I can't quite give 5. But the price and choice of menu is so good, and it's close to other places I frequent (H Mart, Marriott, Korean hair salon..) A friend of mine recommended this place (she prefers it over a few other highly rated sushi places on Yelp). I went with my husband and son, and we ordered quite a few things. Favorites: Chirashi delux (I wish it had 1-2 more kinds of fish, but it was still very fresh and we'll presented. Mackerel was the best), salad dressing, miso soup, black cod with miso that came in the "Lady Dinner" set Good: toro temaki (although it was a bit sloppily made), chawan mushi and agedashi tofu in the Lady Dinner. Tonkotsu ramen was pretty decent, considering the price ($12) and the fact this is not a ramen place Ok: fried chicken and meatballs, mini chirashi Our server was very nice and helpful, but it was busy and our dishes came out a little out of order. Overall it's a very nice neighby place with many things to choose from, and we liked a lot of what we ordered. And the price point is great - maybe not great for Atlanta? But chirashi with very good qualiry fish+soup+ salad at $27-28 seems pretty good to me.
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
Excellente! I think this should be considered world famous. It is that good. Love all the spectacular dishes.
google avatar

Tina H.

Yelp
We've been hear multiple times and everything is pretty solid The fish is fresh and their set meals are not only delicious, but also fairly priced. Before COVID, they had weekday specials so hoping those come back soon! Some of my favorite dishes include toro & otoro sashimi/ nigiri, udon, soba, lady's set, sukiyaki, kushikatsu, and tonkatsu curry. With regards to their kushiyaki (skewers) and grilled salmon, I think the ones from Shoya Izakaya's are more flavorful.
google avatar

Ky W.

Yelp
Great food. Best tuna in the area, maybe even Atlanta/suburbs. Not a sushi sommelier lol but definitely great sushi. This go around, I ordered udon off the lunch menu. Once again, was not disappointed at all.

Bernard D.

Yelp
Best local Sushi! Always packed, usually 2 Chefs working side by side fun to watch them do their thing

Mark H.

Yelp
I'm reluctant to provide a review because this Peachtree Corners Sushi joint is a nicely kept secret. However, they deserve to see another 5-Star customer review based on the incredible sushi and service.

Caroline C.

Yelp
I've been going to Sushi Mito for over 10 years, and I can confidently say that it is one of my favorite restaurants! The waiters are very polite and the sushi is always consistently fresh. In addition, it has a very relaxing ambiance. P.S the manager (Hendrix) is awesome!

Yelp
Sushi Mito offers high quality fish and perfectly balanced dishes. Today, I had the opportunity to visit this restaurant without a spending limit. I went right on ahead and ordered all of my favorite pieces of sushi... Mostly nigiri, but some sashimi as well. To start us off, Thomas brought us miso soup and the ginger salad. They were refreshing and savory, giving us a good appetite for when the main course came out. I also ordered a piece of Saba...which was perfectly crisp, but still juicy and buttery on the inside. I think it could've used a touch more salt, but it was delicious nonetheless. I ordered quite a bit of sushi, so I won't necessarily list at all here... However I wanted to mention a few pieces in particularly. I only got one piece of Ika (squid) in the sampler plate, but it was perfect: it gave that nice pop when biting through it, yet was still able to give that melts-creamy texture and it was beautifully white and skillfully carved. I ordered three different kinds of Toro and bluefin tuna. to be honest well the color and look of the two different types of fish were easy to tell apart, the flavor was different in a delicate way. The blue fin was perhaps a touch sweeter, while the toro had something of a twang at the end. Both were delicious and melted on the tongue. The hamachi's rice was dabbed with a bit of wasabi, to give it that extra kick. It was also good and fresh and had an excellent coloring. The fatty salmon that I ordered was very rich and melted just as well as the fatty tuna. Honestly, I was surprised at the quality of all the fish. While all the fish, itself, looked very good, The sushi wasn't exactly arranged in particularly artistic ways. The sampler plate was artistic only in that each piece was a different color. While each piece was fairly uniform in size and shape, there wasn't any real panache about the plating. Luckily, looks aren't everything- even with sushi. When I mentioned that the fish was very good and fresh, our waiter, Thomas, let me know that the reason he suggested some of the fish to me, was because every Tuesday and Thursday they receive a "surprise" shipment from Japan with new/fresh ingredients and they never know what will be in the box! Cool- and maybe a bit scary as a sushi restaurant... His suggestions were great too! The service really is great at sushi Mito. They refill the teas quickly and efficiently and always asked before they attempted to walk away with a plate. We actually arrived approximately 30 minutes prior to their closing time for their lunch hours. They seated us with smiles, let us know the final orders will be going in at their 15 minute mark, and were happy to help explain things to some of our newbies. On our way out, they all lined up and thanked us for our visit as we think them for the fine meal that they served us. I definitely recommend sushi Mito... As you can see, I gave them five stars. The freshness, flavor, and wonderful sets are just a few good reasons to visit them, and again! I certainly will.

Yelp
After many months of not dining out, this was my first real sit-down Japanese dinner. I had so many things I wanted to order, but of course that is not possible. I went here without a reservation on a Wednesday night. Parking was easy because it is in a strip mall. When I walked in the restaurant seemed busy and I had to wait for a little bit before I was shown a table. Upon sitting down the server serves me my hot tea which I requested for and dropped off a couple of menus and drinks list. She was very polite. I'm perusing the menu, there were loads of delicious looking pictures therefore ordering me it easy for people who are not familiar with the Japanese cuisine. As it was both of us, we ordered a few items to share. I had a bowl of chirashi, he ordered a salmon sushi as his entree, we shared a seared mackerel, a medium rare piece of steak with garlic dressing and a dish of agedeshi tofu. Prices at this restaurant was very reasonable despite the very posh decor. I was pleasantly surprised. At the end of the dinner they served green tea ice cream as a complimentary dessert Overall the service at this restaurant was good, it was busy so that night we had to get the server's attention several times to top up our tea and water. At one point everything came except the steak and the fish and we had to wait about 30 minutes after we were halfway through our entree, we enquired, and when it finally came, the server apologized and explained that the kitchen was super busy and she too was busy and did not follow up. We appreciated her honesty and did not much up a fuss because honestly, the restaurant was busy.

Yelp
** update*** thanks for the promptly response from the business. I would definitely consider this a communication issue, and not a taste/quality issue. I will ask next time to avoid this kind of unexpected experience. I would never thought a shrimp cost x3 more than salmon...Thanks! **** This is our regular sushi place, long time customers. Great food. However, in recent visit, the price of sweet shrimp sashimi went insane. On the sushi menu, sashimi is 3pcs per order, so we wrote one for salmon and sweet shrimp (one each). 3 pcs salmon and 1 pc sweet shrimp show up on out table. By the time check comes, it's $15 per shrimp. We used to 3 pcs per order, not a $12 per shrimp. Thanks Sushi Mito for serving us all these years. I may need to think twice before going again.

Yelp
Very good!! my teenage daughter and I were in the area and we love going to dinner for sushi. We are excited to try this place is that had good reviews. We had the pork Japanese pancake appetizer. Amazing!! And then we shared the Yum Yum roll and the bagel roll. Usually when we share rolls there is one we like better. But these two were so good in different ways. So bottom line everything we ate was delicious and we cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
Good food been going there for over 20 yrs. Only place like it in the immediate area.
