The 23 Best Sushi Restaurants in Tokyo, from Michelin Star Omakase to Conveyer Belt Bars | Condé Nast Traveler

"The fish, fresh from Tsukiji Market , comes in generous portions—each piece is so long that one end tapers over the rice like the train of a wedding dress. You could easily fill up on one of the incredibly reasonable sets for ¥2,000 or ¥2,500, or just order à la carte. The anago ippon-nigiri, a nearly whole fillet of sea eel brushed with sweet-and-savory soy sauce, draped over a hefty mouthful of rice, is the restaurant's signature. It's not fine dining, but the food is simple, unfussy, and satisfying." - Melinda Joe

We visited as a group of two adults and a child just before closing time and were seated immediately—no wait at all. The food was absolutely outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Service was impressively quick, and the staff were warm, kind, and attentive. Without a doubt, this is one of the best sushi restaurants in Tokyo. Highly recommended!

This place was absolutely amazing! If I ever visit Tokyo again, I will definitely make a reservation and come back here. I went with a group of 7 friends, and we were all very satisfied. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. We arrived 30 minutes early, but our reserved table was already prepared for us, and everything went smoothly. Thank you for the great experience — wishing you continued success!

Google
Absolutely amazing sushi spot! We had the tuna assortment and it was incredible—super fresh and the fish practically melts in your mouth. Generous portions that are very filling, and prices are reasonable for the quality. They don’t have gluten-free soy sauce, but I still enjoyed everything without it. Highly recommend! Walk-ins are accepted, but I suggest making a reservation if you can.

Great Japanese Nigiri food at good price! Always have good experience there. Highly recommended! Make reservation (online) or be prepared to queue around 15-30mins.

Google
Long waiting time up to 2 hours+ if you didnt take the Q earlier and if you didnt make reservation. Reservation in Japanese and only if you plan to order the omakase. Limited English speaking staff. Great food not alot of variety but good enough. Worth trying if you have the time to Q.

Google
The chutoro and otoro nigiri absolutely melted in my mouth. The rice-to-fish ratio was off though — most pieces had way too much rice. Overall, the quality was decent. You order everything through a tablet, and staff only come by to drop things off like food, towels, or water, which takes away from the experience a bit. Came on a Sunday at 6pm and waited less than an hour. A good spot if some people in your group are new to raw fish as they’ve got some American-style rolls like California rolls.

Would have happily eaten every single meal here. It was flawless and an absolute highlight of my time in Tokyo. Very friendly staff, I went for lunch and sat at the bar and was treated to some brilliant sushi by a very kind and smiley chef obviously taking great pleasure in sharing his skills with guests. This place is fantastic value for money and perfect for those looking for top quality without the stuffy or intimidating vibes of the super high end places. Wish I could eat here every day!

Google
We had a great experience dining here! Although we had to use a ticketing system and waited around 20 minutes to be seated, the process was smooth and well-organized. The wait was absolutely worth it—the food was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The furniture and overall setup are quite basic, but it adds to the casual, no-frills vibe of the place. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for great food and don’t mind a simple setting.

Yelp
Came for dinner and waited about 50 mins to get seated. You take a ticket from the machine and wait nearby. My boyfriend and I both did the omakase, which was really solid and amazingly inexpensive (like $24 each)! Highlights included the red prawn tail, uni, and eel. I did have an unfortunate encounter with a prawn head here (I may have eaten it incorrectly) but otherwise it was a fantastic experience!

Yelp
Best sushi we've ever eaten. The fatty tuna melted like butter in the mouth, so fresh and smooth. Delicious! The unagi was my wife's favorite! Love the freshly ground wasabi! Long wait for a table but well worth it as we will definitely be back! Service is also a bit spotty and slow as we witnessed a waitress try to deliver a large tray of sushi to four different tables until she found the correct table, maybe, or maybe the table was just happy to get food.

Yelp
It's true, 1 hour wait among friendly people at 6:30 pm. Thank you for having a great system. Get a number and grab a seat at the long bench. Thank goodness the weather was mild. Catch up on your trip planning. QR code tells you what number is being called. This helps to wait calmly. The food is well worth it. The tablet has English. It took us 15 min to decide what set menus to pick from. The table of 4 were eating a feast. We ordered miso soup and egg custard. Crab paste salad was delish. Green tea warmed us up. The loll, waiting for our setting menu. Drooling at the sight of the feast. Ours came and we were happy campers. 12 pieces of freshest sashimi. Eel. Scallop. Shrimp with It's head. I say suck the head. Tiny uni. I have never seen sashimi spread this beautiful. Tiny roe slivered cucumbers. Zest of lemon to bring out the flavor. Fresh Wasabi. ginger. The wait was worth it. They welcome you once you step through the door like CHEERS. Happiest spot in Tokyo. We did have a hard time locating this place. We literally found the line not the Google address.

Yelp
Best sushi of my life!!!! Wait was not too bad but we had a feast including Uni and Hotate - so fresh so delicious - was like $65 for two - so amazing- LOVED this place - favorite meal in Japan - Favorite meal of all time!!!!!!

Yelp
As with any good food in Tokyo be prepared to stand in long lines. This place was totally worth the wait, recommend coming an hour before opening and taking a number. This was so fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. Ordered a whole omakase platter which came out to around the equivalent of $30. Great fish to rice ratio. The vibe is casual. Highly recommend

Yelp
Wow, had an amazing meal at sushi no Midori! Highly highly recommend making a reservation on table check and getting the seasonal omakase or you'll have to wait forever in line. If you make a reservation you can bypass everyone and give them your name. It was 3960 yen for a great meal. The fish was incredibly fresh and presentation was stunning.

Yelp
I have waited over 5 minutes and I have booked this reservation 1 whole month ago and we are still not being seated do not come here unless you are craving bad service. If I could give this horrible, horrible place a zero star review I would.

Yelp
Sushi here was good ! I wouldn't say it was the BEST sushi I've had ever because I feel like I've had better, but this was definitely trying and the wait. The fish was fresh and i loved the presentation! It's a small place so we waited about an hour to be seated. They open at 5PM for dinner and we got there like a minute before and there were already like 15 parties waiting so that was on us lol but we grab a number from the front where you check in and just wait for your number to be called! It was raining when we went so it wasn't fun waiting but I think the rain probably deterred people so the hour wait could've been longer. I was nervous that we'd miss our number since I assumed the person calling only spoke Japanese as a lot of people who entered walked up the moment he called the number out in Japanese but thankfully he also called out the number in English !!! The man who sat us down was very friendly and sweet. He let us know the special going on and also opened up a bag for me to put my wet umbrella in. The inside was a bit small but they still managed to make it work where it didn't seem cramped. Or maybe my view was skewed since we were lucky enough to get a window seat so we had plenty of space. We got an assorted plate of nigiris and rolls. My favorite was probably the scallop and tamago! The scallop was huge and so fresh and flavorful ! The tamago was soooo eggy and big too!! I loved the fish to rice ratio here. It was definitely worth the price! I would pass on the yellowtail again if we came back. It wasn't the best yellowtail I've had. The salmon also wasn't the best, but it was still good! They topped it with some ginger and green onions, which I don't love ginger lol so. They do ask if wasabi is ok so that they put a dab underneath the fish! We weren't aware of this and assumed the waitress was asking for something else but no all our nigiri had a dab of wasabi under it hahah I don't like wasabi but i was able to eat them just fine with it surprisingly! There was almost no spice that I tasted. Our total came out to about $35 a person which was good for how much food we got! We were so full at the end of this meal. Highly recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
Excellent sushi, generous slices of fish, wide selection, and fast service. Slight wait to get inside, but definitely worth it.

Yelp
We made a reservation 2 weeks in advance, but you don't have to make it that early. It was nice that we got to skip the long line when we got there because it would've at least been an hour to two hour wait had I gone at 1pm without the reservation. Since we made a reservation, we had already preordered our meal. We got the kisetsu no itasan omakase nigiri set for 3,300 yen. For $25 per person, it was more than worth it. The quality and service was better than some of the omakase restaurants I've been to near LA. We were able to finish everything on our platter, but we were stuffed by the time we left. I'm giving a 4 star instead of 5 because there were a few pieces that I wasn't that fond of. Other than that, I'd definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Omg we waited 2 hours to eat here. It was worth it. The sushi was amazing and so fresh. You go to the machine and enter how many people and get a number. There is always a line lunch or dinner. It's non stop here. The sushi is so fresh and for a great price. Staff so nice. Love it and that is why we are back for more.

Yelp
HIGH QUALITY & AFFORDABLE?! Say less. This sushi shop completely blew my mind. I wish that I had more time in Japan just so I can eat here again! The wait was roughly 2 hours so my bf and I decided to walk around to the shopping areas until it was almost our turn to be seated. I don't really know Japanese so finding a restaurant with an English menu is a must. Luckily, this place has a Japanese and English menu which made it so much easier to order! How was the food? It just ~M E L T S~ in your mouth!!! This place serves high quality food in big portions that don't break the bank. My favorite was the Salmon set! I spent around two weeks in Japan and this was the BEST meal that I had. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Yelp
Came at 12:30 for a table and waited until 13:30 to be seated, and ordered at 13:41 and still nothing to be had at 14:28. There is no server came and say anything about when the food will be ready. Therefore we are becoming pretty impatient since we have been seated for so long without food. The line was cut for the midday close at 15:00. Other than the very long wait, the ambiance is average as there are various soy sauce stains on the wall and the decor is a bit outdated. The guest WiFi does always work. The price is only the expensive side. Would not recommend if it is with a kid because of the long wait. However, the seafood appears to be fresh.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Both quality and price are excellent and surprising!!! Electronic order system is well designed and organized for everyone. Servers are also friendly. What else should I add to give full stars?

Yelp
We found Umegaoka Sushi No Midori on Yelp. The line seemed reasonable so we took a ticket and waited. Our wait was 45 minutes. The wait was well worth the time. Umegoaka Sushi No Midori (bar none) was the best Japanese meal we've ever had the privilege to enjoy! The freebie Egg Custard and Crab with Crab Butter were great. The Sushi they served were amazing. The Mackerel Sashimi, Sea Bream Head and the Welk with Garlic were incredible.

Yelp
Great sushi in Ginza! Waited outside before opening for about an hour and it was well worth it!! Some of the best sushi I had while I was in Tokyo, was lucky enough to sit at the bar which made the experience better! Great busy vibe at lunch mid week!
google avatar

Razer X.

Yelp
Been coming to Midori sushi for the past three days straight while staying in Ginza. We have good sushi places in Los Angeles California and Midori sushi is high up there in terms of food quality and service. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Carol N.

Yelp
Sushi no Midori was biggest win in terms of value. I was first in line at 9:30 am & pulled a ticket at 10 am. Doors open at 11 am. This 20-piece meal cost about $24 (3600¥). The meal also includes chuwanmushi & crab paste salad. I was extremely full & almost regretted ordering shirako on the side (ask for it seared).

Yelp
COME EARLY!! I'd been hearing so many good things about Sushi no Midori so wanted to squeeze it in on my last day in Tokyo before my flight. Came here 20 min before it opened at 11am and had to get a number outside of the shop. I was #19. There was a whole line of both tourists and locals waiting outside of the shop already. I thought we'd be seated pretty quickly since the restaurant looked relatively large but sadly wasn't seated until 1.5 hours later, at 12:30pm. Now onto the food. It wasn't "make your heart flutter" type of sushi but everything was super high value. I ordered their lunch set which comes with 10-12 pieces of sushi, chawanmushi, miso soup and salad...all for 1900yen which amounted to $15USD at the time. Everything was super good, esp the chawanmushi, and I loved the variety of fish on my set! I ordered an extra piece of uni on the side since my set didn't come with it and that was also so tasty and fresh. I was definitely bummed that the wait took a lot longer than expected and ate into my shopping time but would recommend coming here for high value sashimi! It looked like some people were able to get a res but I'm not sure how - might want to research more online.

Yelp
My coworker told me about this place and the amazing meal he had here, so I definitely had to make reservations. We pre-ordered an omakase which was less than $30 US dollars. Overall, it just didn't blow my mind. A few of the pieces were not things that I would normally eat so I realized, I am just not that adventurous of an eater. I think the meal would have been much better if I just chose the pieces I would normally eat and skipped the omakase.

Yelp
Good & fresh food but long wait, got there At 5:51 pm o. Sunday, did not get seated until 8pm, food served at 8:40pm. Price is very reasonable in comparison with California.

Yelp
Always a line here and for a reason. They serve great high quality sushi/sashimi at great prices! Not only that, they also accept credit cards which most of the places I have been to when it comes to dining for sushi/sashimi is cash only. I've typically been making the pilgrimage to the Tsukiji and now the Toyosu fish market to get the freshest sushi/sashimi Japan offers but now after dining here I feel it has officially been too touristy for my liking and not worth the long waits as you can get equivalent if not better options here. My recent visit to the Toyosu fish market left an annoying after taste as not only did I have to pay cash for the meal, upon choosing the premium omakase sushi set, the items not only differed quite a bit from the picture (in the past, it did not), we were served a cooked shrimp instead of a raw fresh one which was pretty disappointing. Plus we were served what I felt were much lower quality pieces than what was being advertised. With that disappointment I made a point to find another sushi to dine before I left Japan and this place more than made up for it! Will no longer need to go out of the way to Toyosu or Tsukiji for my seafood/sushi/sashimi cravings! I can choose whatever I want here for a great price! After even doing the math, I felt it was a much better deal here. I got all the premium cuts and ended paying less than what I did at the fish markets and they accept credit cards here! WIN WIN!

Yelp
Sushi no Midori - Ginza. Wow best sushi ever. Go here. Wait was like 20 min (not bad, just spent time buying snacks at a konbini haha) it's filled with locals and tourists alike, trust the reviews! I got an aburi piece sushi meal which was perfect. Favorites were the torched tuna and salmon. The size of the fish over the rice was almost double portion on some pieces. Bless.
google avatar

Elsa C.

Yelp
It was a crazy line. I waited about 45 mins to get in. Everything taste super fresh, and the portion was big, prob I order an extra eel lol. Definitely worth to wait, and the quality is much better than kaiten-zushi.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Heard so much about this place but always dreaded the queue. Luckily, we only waited for ~20m to get a table, and maybe another ~20m for them to bring us our Sushi. EVERYTHING was SPLENDID (as expected). HIGH QUALITY sushi that WON'T BREAK the BANK! =P Ultimate Tuna Sushi Assortment 2,800¥ Chef's Special Sushi Assortment 2,600¥
google avatar

Yelp
They have never disappointed me! If you have a chance to be in the area and lots of free time to wait, I recommend it.
google avatar

Elaine C.

Yelp
My first sushi experience in Japan (aside from the conveyor belt sushi)! You grab a number using the ticketing my machine and no worries- it's in English! Jumped in line and took about 45 minutes to get in. Long line, but it moves quick. Sushi here is so worth it! Being from CA (USA), Japanese food can get expensive. Food here is about $20.00 USD and the quality of the fish is very fresh. My all time favorites are toro, fresh shrimp and the scallops. The uni however was nothing special here. My meal also came with a very crabby salad and savory egg pudding. Check out my photo! Hands down had a good experience here. Everyone is so polite and food comes out quick. I will be back!!
google avatar

Shirley T.

Yelp
Well worth the hour long wait. You take a queue number from the machine and choose to have them call you when near your turn. Of course that applies to only local mobiles. It's a frenzy of activities once you get inside and we were lucky to get a counter seat where you get to watch all the action. One of the few 5 stars I've given for the food, excitement of the place and also location (located under the JR train tracks?

Yelp
Another restaurant in Tokyo with super long lines.. can't go wrong as long as you don't mind waiting. Actually my local friend told me about Umegaoka Sushi a couple years back, but I turned around everytime I saw the long line cos I was too hungry.. anyhow I finally made it, at the Ginza location. We waited for about one hour, in the rain, on a weekday in the afternoon! Can't imagine what it would have been like dinner time on a Saturaday.. anyway, the wait was worth it. Good sushi for a very affordable price! We had very fresh toro, uni, some sake all all that. The check was about $50 per person out the door. Not bad at all for what you get. Of course it's not the Jiro or Michelin class which you will have to pay $3, $400 per head. So we were very happy with the meal for the price we paid. Yup.. Solid 5-star!!!

Yelp
My favorite local sushi place in Ginza. We've been here every time we visited tokyo. There is always a line. If you want to be the first to get in, come when it opens at 11am. Get a ticket number at the machine and wait for them to call your number to get seated. Prices are reasonable. They have a variety of different seared toro. Soooo good.
google avatar

Sam K.

Yelp
This place gets busy-busy. A lot of locals eat here and for good reason. Honestly best bang for the buck (or yen in this case). I came on a weekday about half hour before opening. Once 30 minutes passed, I was seated at the bar and was ready to chow. A lot to choose from but I decided to go with the chef's special for 2600 yen. I was able to witness the chefs go to work and put out these amazing, simple, pieces of sushi together. I enjoyed every piece that was from the chef's special. It was also very nice to get these various appetizers that I did not expect to receive. Overall a really good dining experience that did not dent my wallet at all. A must visit if you're in Ginza.
google avatar

Kenson K.

Yelp
There was a long wait to get in. We must've waited 1.5 hours, and we got the last seating. You first have to get a ticket from the automated kiosk outside, then wait your turn as they call numbers. I don't know how they do the numbers because at times it seemed as though they were calling numbers at random and in no specific order, regardless of party size. I didn't understand the logic, but whatever. I heard that this place is a very famous sushi chain in Tokyo and I guess word got out because there were quite a few foreigners standing in line; i think moreso than Japanese. I heard American/Canadian English and Chinese being spoken while waiting in line. So we finally made it in. A guy with a handheld POS comes by and takes our order. They came back twice to tell us that some of the stuff had already sold out. Kinda disappointing but at least we got the bulk of our orders in. OMG, everything was so delicious. We started out with some chawanmushi, a small salad, and seasoned broiled fish. which was complimentary. Following that we had grilled conch in the shell and conch sashimi. I prefered the sashimi style, but the grilled one was also very umami and tasty. We ordered a set platter filled with all types of sushi which included o-toro, akami tuna, ika, ebi, ikura, ankimo, uni, crab, kazunoko, 3 hand rolls that I think were o-toto, anago, another white fish, and my favorite, akagai. We also had additional nigiri orders of ebi, sayori, tako, ankimo, and a sashimi platter. Oh, and some sake. We ordered a shit ton of stuff and I left quite satisfied. The bill only came out to $125 for everything for 2 people. Unbelievable. That would have cost more than double in California and not be nearly as fresh.

Yelp
Yes, there will always be lines here, but the real question is, is it all worth it? In my humble opinion, it is definitely worth it if you can get into the line within an hour's wait. Come here for breakfast, and you will not be disappointed. From what I remembered 2 years ago, I only waited ~30 minutes during a lunchtime on a weekday in January, and it was very organized too. There were tickets for our spots, and the line went by smoothly. Now, for dinner time, I'd expect the lines to be longer and more stagnant due to the leisurely pace that dinner involves. My words of advice? To come here right when it opens and don't be mad when there are lines formed already. That simply means that many locals love it, so just be respectful of the ambiance and diligent servers. They work really hard and as tourists, we should set a good standard of patience and empathy. Anyway, my order consisted of the California roll and the chef's set of assorted sushi pieces. I don't think it was omakase, but it was just an 1800 yen (at the time) sushi plate. It was so good! I loved every piece as well as the authentic Japanese California roll. No fake fish there, only raw and fresh standards. Ofc, the dishes came with some miso soup, and we ordered some hot green tea, which was delectable. The layout of the restaurant is quite small, so I suggest to either break apart your big party or go in with just 2 people, in order to be seated quickly. My mom and I got a full-sized table to ourselves, which was nice. The establishment is very clean and bright, so you can have many opportunities to see what others are eating. But do learn how to hail your waitstaff anywhere in Japan. They were SO SLOW here for some reason, perhaps because they serve many tables at once, so maybe learn to call them over in a polite way. I picked up "sumimasen" (soo-me-mah-sen) early on, and this will be a good way to attract attention without being snobby. Overall, my experience here was pretty good, and the sushi quality was fantastic for that relatively inexpensive price. It was enticing to come back the day after, but alas, my trip came to an abrupt end. In my next Japanese journey, I will definitely stop by for more pieces, and perhaps try the other location in Shinjuku too.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday at 6pm and found out the line was literally 1h+ long, so decided to pass on it and come back again on a weekday at 3pm when there was no line. The interior is quite spacious, with both bar and table seats. I ordered their salmon nigiri set, which was 4 different types of salmon pieces (2 seared, 2 raw), for 780 yen. The set was spectacular -- the salmon slices were so long and thick, compared to the very small amount of rice portion (almost 3:1 fish:rice ratio). Each piece was unique and the taste of the salmon was just so fresh and juicy. I also got their shrimp katsu roll, for 500 yen. This was a 4 piece roll but about 2-3x the size you would normally get in the US, so this was really filling. This was decent but not particularly memorable (well except for the portion size). Highly recommend! Try to come during off times to avoid the lines.

Yelp
We found this place via Trip Advisor while wandering around the city. Although there was a long line of customers outside waiting to be seated, we decided to join them given the great reviews on Trip Advisor, and our schedule was open. There's a machine outside of the front door where you grab a ticket number to secure your spot in line to be seated. We waited approximately 40 minutes to be seated at a table for two. I ordered the Upper Chef's Assorted Special which came on a wooden platter. Everything from the Tuna, Shrimp, Roe, etc... looked fresh and tasted good. Although there was a huge line outside, the inside was quite roomy so it's nice to know that the owners are considerate about their customer's dining comfort rather than squeezing everyone in to make more cash-flow. All in all, I would recommend this place if you don't mind the line and want to enjoy some sushi with a little elbow space. Four star because the inside of the restaurant (tables, chairs, walls, decorations) were just mediocre.

Yelp
Sushi No Midori is within walking distance of the Shimbashi, Ginza and Yurakucho stations. When you arrive, make sure to get a ticket at the machine by the door. For locals, there is the option to get a spot on the line using a mobile app; if getting a ticket on the machine, there is the option to provide a cell phone number to receive notifications. The machine will ask if you prefer to seat at a table, bar, or either. If you get a table, you might have to share it with others. As mentioned by other reviewers, lines can be long. Employees are used to foreigners eating there and are able to provide service in English, although communication might not be perfectly smooth and service might suffer. I ordered the Salmon Sushi Assortment, the Sushi Assortment with Salt and Lemon Taste, and 1/2 serving of the Ultimate Tuna Sushi Assortment. The quality of the fish was good. I ordered too much food for one person; probably I should have skipped the Sushi Assortment with Salt and Lemon Taste, which paled in comparison to the two other dishes ordered. I was unlucky and my order of the Ultimate Tuna Sushi Assortment was poorly prepared; the other guests we were sharing our table with, a Japanese girl and her grandmother, received the same dish much better prepared. Vegan options are extremely limited, but vegans will be able to put together a meal ordering from the nigiri sushi and rolls a-la-carte menu. We had to wait 2 hours and 10 minutes to get a table. The meal was not worth a wait that long. In my opinion, it is worth waiting at most an hour; if the line is longer than that, you will have a more enjoyable overall experience going somewhere else. TLDR; good food, good prices (for the quality), long wait time https://thomassu.smugmug.com/Food/2019/190922SushiNoMidori/n-Kf5Zg3/

Yelp
Alright, be prepared for long lines but a delicious, rewarding meal afterwards. We waited in line for approximately 40 minutes on a Friday evening for a group of 3. They give you a ticket number and you are expected to be there when they call your number. Once we got inside, it was quite busy, but service was still quick and the food is fresh and delicious. They have a good omakase option (pretty cheap, around $25 USD), along with other a la carte sushi and other dishes. I highly recommend their omakase, as everything was very fresh and well made. Also, that price can't be beat!

Yelp
We came here for our first meal in Japan, and the sushi was remarkable and reasonably priced. I think this place really set the bar high for the rest of our stay. Umegaoka can be difficult to find because the signs are in Japanese, but if you see large crowds, you are most likely in the right area. It seemed like we were the only tourists among the restaurant patrons; it's always comforting to see swarms of locals. Since we had arrived during peak dinner hours, we were notified that the wait would be about an hour long. The attendant calls the numbers in Japanese so we frequently had to show the attendant our tickets to determine our place in the queue. Once we were finally seated, we requested an English menu. We weren't exactly sure what to order but we looked around at the surrounding tables and noted that the most popular entrees were the sushi sets. We ended up ordering two different sushi sets along with a few a la carte items based on the suggestions of the friendly Japanese customers at the table next to us. The sushi was delectable and made for a very nice welcome meal to Tokyo. Each bite was heavenly. We ordered a lot of food (maybe a little too much), so we were surprised to find that the total bill was only $60. Our dinner would have cost $100+ if we had ordered the same items in the US. Umegaoka offers great sushi at a wonderful price. I fully endorse this place!

Yelp
I know this place through a YouTube video that I watched awhile ago. Midori is a chain so the one I saw is located near Shibuya. But it was renovated at the time we went, so we came here instead. And we found out later Ginza is like Beverly Hills in the state. Waiting Time They have a machine outside for you to put you on the waiting list. DO NOT COME HERE ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. We didn't know how popular this place was till we got there. It was raining yet people STILL wait 2hrs for it. They closed the waiting list at 8P.M even though they closed at 10P.M. We came back the next day during lunch and it was only 40 minutes. Servers Everyone in Japan is nice so no complaint there. We sat at the bar both times so we got to see the chefs in action. Even though I might not have understood what our chef said, but I'm 90% sure he was smirking & telling the other chef how I eat ginger more than fish itself. Hahahaha. Food Mmmm-mmmmmm. The 2hrs did seem extremely long but my stomach was so satisfied once we got the food!! Everything we ordered taste sooooooo goooooood. We had to come back one last time before going back...so you know it's a MUST EAT for sure. Them fatty tuna soooo melt in your mouth. Gosh, when am I ever gonna get it again??? Oh yea stick to the combination sushi plate. I ordered chirashi bowl the second visit and it was just okayyy. I think I'm not adventurous enough to try another fish. I like my tuna& salmon.

Yelp
Finally had the opportunity to try out this place. The lines can be long but there's a number system you can grab one and mosey around instead of waiting in the queue. The wait seems to be shorter for a weekend lunch - if you come 15 minutes before opening, you should be able to get in with the first seating. Anyway, Midori is really economical and great value of the price you pay. ¥1300 gets you an awesome set with all kinds of fish - the most expensive one is about ¥2800. Everything I had was fairly fresh and I'd put it one level above budget sushi bars. Also, this place should really be ¥¥ and not ¥¥¥.

Yelp
Had the special....after a worthwhile 30 minute wait. The lady next to me helped me navigate a little through the sushi chef as I was at the sushi bar. Started with 3 dishes as an appetizer. Salmon with bone in. It seemed steamed and melted in your mouth. The baby squid was the second and it was accompanied by seaweed and baby fish... With a ponzu sauce. I love it but not for everyone. The crab paste was phenomenally fresh and tasty! Then the feast began.... Bonito like I have never seen. Red snapper Japanese cut. Omelette. Nice looong cut of salmon negiri. Ebi. Toro times 2. Uni. Entire sea eel and tuna. Wow. What an infusion of Tokyo. Everything was superb. The tuna melted in your mouth and the entire experience said welcome back home....where have you been. I have missed Tokyo. Coming back and having this as the first meal brings it back "home". It's good to be back.

Yelp
This was the first restaurant we visited when we arrived to Japan and we were not disappointed at all!! We arrived around 5:30 pm and was expecting a long line but the wait didn't take longer than 15 min. The sushi were soooo good. We ordered quite a variety of the set sushi platter and it was nice they had so many options! Our favourites were the different types tuna. They just melt in your mouth! We were so full by the end of the night and only spent less than 4000 yen!

Yelp
came here on our visit to Japan. The guy working at the bar work so fast and was amazing watching them make the sushi's. The sushi portion was VERY big & so inexpensive for the quality they serve. We can never get this kind of quality sushi in the US for the price we paid here. My hubby and son love their Salmon. I had the grilled fish & clam soup. clams portion was small and the clam broth wasn't to my liking. but the fish was delicious and all 4 of us was able to eat for just $80. We arrived at 10:40am bc they open at 11 and the line was curved around the block & we still had to wait til around 11:30am. Crazy busy but worth it!!!

Yelp
Unbelievably fresh sushi, great value for the price. Tip: get there at 10:30-10:45 to get a seat when they open at 11:00 to avoid a long wait.

Yelp
Favorite restaurant of our entire trip to Tokyo!!! TIP: As soon as you arrive, GET A NUMBER from the kiosk to the right as you are facing the front door. The nice lady calling numbers and seating people will help you, if you are linguistically clueless like us. We wanted an assortment of sushi, so for the two of us, we ordered one Ultimate Tuna set, two 3-piece salmon sets, two of the lightly broiled fish sets, two lemon and salt fish sets, and a two ala carte unagi (my idea of desert sushi!). We were stuffed! Boy was it amazing. The staff and other patrons were so nice here!!! The lady to our right at the counter had folded the wrapper from her disposable chop sticks into a chop stick stand. She saw us eyeing her creation and she showed us how it is done. Now we have something to show off next we go out to sushi with friends! The gentleman sitting on our left saw me dipping my sushi in soy sauce, which caused the rice to almost immediately fall apart. He showed me how to use the pickled ginger as a paint brush to "paint" soy sauce on the sushi. Neat trick. Loved this place so much!

Yelp
Was it worth the wait for dinner? A 1.5 hour wait. I would say yes and no. No because we were seated near the end of the dinner service so we had to rush all our orders in. The second was that they ran out of some of the seafood that we wanted to have...akagai. Other than that, the meal was great. We ordered the large sushi platter which only converted to $29 USD. Holy F...that is insanely cheap. Back in the USA, this platter would have been $70USD. It came with different types of hamachi belly, ebi, and the best was the anago. I could eat anago all day. Sea ell that is less oily that unagi. Overall it was a great dinner that put my sour wait mood to rest.

Yelp
This place was great and you can tell by the queue outside. Put your name down via the machine reception outside with picture instructions posted. They give you thick pieces of Tuna and good salmon.

Yelp
Great sushi and attentive service. Didn't seemed to be English speakers but doesn't matter when the food is great. Each table has a easy to read menu.

Yelp
A local Japanese friend of mine recommended this place and definitely had to give it a try if all the locals go! Opens around 11AM, I arrived around 11:15AM and there was already a big line. You go to the machine to get ticket, super convenient and the waiter will come out and call your number when it is your turn. I waited for almost an hour and got seated. They have many choices here and prices are very reasonable! I highly recommend ordering the omakese set, it has around 13 pieces of sushi and comes with a steamed egg pudding and crab meat salad. It was SOOOOOO good, some of the best sushi I have had during my trip! It only cost around $23 USD, SO worth it, you can't find anything like this in the states. Also order different kinds of fish that you can only eat in Japan, super fresh and tasty, cost only $8 USD. Recommend ordering the steamed eel with egg, it's one of their specials. When you look at it, it seems pretty mediocre, but when you eat it, it will blow your mind! It has fatty eel and the soup is super tasty with a hint of ginseng. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this place! It's a must go and you will be satisfied!
