Cajun Seafood Boil Restaurant Opening in Bob San Space in Wicker Park | Eater Chicago

"A two-location suburban Japanese restaurant concept offering all-you-can-eat sushi; the first location opened in January 2018 in Orland Park and a second opened in April in Westmont. Owned by Huanhuan 'Angela' Liang, the operator is expanding into Chicago with a separate seafood-boil concept." - Ashok Selvam

We went out for all-you-can-eat sushi this weekend with the family, and it was such a great experience! The food was fresh and delicious, and even the kids really enjoyed it. There was a nice variety to choose from, and everything was served quickly and nicely presented. The prices are reasonable, and there are some really good offers too. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere felt warm and relaxed. Overall, a perfect spot to enjoy good sushi with family or friends — we’ll definitely come back! 🍣

Google
A friend recommended the all you can eat but i do not recommend that unless you can eat a TON. The rolls are HUGE and if you order the all you can eat you get charged for anything left over… charged alot! Like $1 per piece. Just order a regular meal and sides. The “all you can eat for $33” ends up costing like $50- $60 if you don’t eat every last bit. . One roll is huge. You can get a meal with 2 rolls and soup n salad for like $18.. that is a ton of food. It was also way too dark in the restaurant and we couldn’t see the menu without using our phone lights. Food took forever too. With that said food was still delicious and we will return. Would have given 5 stars if atmosphere and service were better

Google
Went to Sushi Nova for the all-you-can-eat and it was totally worth it! Everything came out fresh and quick. The Fire Dragon Roll and Dragon Roll were both amazing — super flavorful and perfectly made. Our waiter Steven was friendly and checked in often. Definitely one of the better sushi spots around!

Google
I had such a great experience at this all-you-can-eat sushi spot thanks to our waiter, Sonny. He was incredibly friendly from the moment we sat down and made the whole meal feel welcoming. Sonny checked on us often without being pushy, made sure our orders came out quickly, and explained a few menu items we hadn’t tried before. His positive attitude honestly made the experience so much better. The service was amazing, the food was great, and Sonny definitely deserves recognition for how well he treats customers. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
My favorite sushi!!! Could go there everyday. Food is amazing! Service is even better!

Google
I am a frequent customer and I can say food is good. BUT LISTEN!. WHY Do the let the Employees to sit at the bar an eat with WE THE CUSTOMERS. Every single time I see stuff eating at the bar. I just got tired of that. I was there today and half of the bar was full of employees eating AND this guys make too much noise with their mouth eating. I thought they have a break when they close at 3pm and reopen later. BUT WELL EVERYTHING ELSE IS OK. FOOD AND ENVIRONMENT. THANKS.!! (I tried to speak with a manager but the said there it wasn't any manager at the moment)

Noor A.

Google
Sonny was the absolute best! He’s super super nice and very respectful to all customers. He made me feel very welcome at sushi nova and I will definitely be back! The drinks he makes is super delicious! Best waitress ever.

Alyssa F.

Google
I only tried the Godzilla roll, but it was a solid 10/10. It was really fresh and tasty! The smoothie was average at best. They're speedy bringing out the food, and the service was good. Really clean and nice inside too
google avatar

Yelp
Service was great, specialty rolls were fantastic, especially the mango roll. Steer clear of the plain rolls such as California's tuna, pretty average but their signature stuff is great!

Benny R.

Yelp
Very great place! Been here multiple times, and have a great experience each time! All-you-can-eat menu is worth imo, servers were very nice each time (have been for dinner and lunch), and staff was very helpful!

Yelp
The food was very good, both in taste and in how promptly it was ready. Three of us met for a birthday, and, after eating, without being asked, a birthday platter of mochi with candles was brought out. It was very thoughtful, and we had a lovely time.

Yelp
AYCE was delicious, service was very good, good value for the money. The restaurant is clean and well kept. We would definitely recommend.

Yelp
If you're not interested in really putting away some sushi when you visit Sushi Nova in Orland Park, you probably want to stay away from their all-you-can-eat menu. However, if you're like me, and you visit with some big eaters, then their all-you-can-eat menu is well worth the value. It's not the cheapest, but they include a nice selection of specialty rolls on the AYCE menu that sell for $14-$15 dollars on their own. The inside is clean and very contemporary. Our service was excellent. The appetizers and rolls we ordered were all served promptly. They aren't doing anything groundbreaking here, but if you go in a for a late lunch, you pay the lunch pricing, and as long as you bring your appetite, you can't go wrong.

Yelp
Very nice server Anton, not his fault. I was here 45 minutes, arrived just after they opened, so hardly anyone here. So far, I've gotten nothing but my 2 appetizers, which took almost 15 minutes, and nothing else. I'm going to be here 2 hours at this rate. It's $30 for AYCE; I shouldn't have to be here 2 hours to get even close to my money's worth. Shame cuz precious trips were great. Also, the baked mussels were barely warm & topping now browned like it usually is. What is happening??? Update: finally got first roll after 50 minutes: it was good, dragon roll. Ordered two more cuz by then, figured I'd better hurry. Spicy 2-in1 says "tuna & salmon;" no mention it's cut HEAVILY with crunch so can't taste the fish, and it's also very bulky/heavy (soy wrap doesn't even fit around it) so now I've ordered too much and have to pay for the extra. Without the added filler, it would have been good, I assume. Also forgot to say no cream cheese in Fire Phoenix (my fault but IMHO cream cheese has no place in sushi, and it was a LOT); otherwise that roll was very good except that, like the mussels, not actually torched as described. Anyway, I whined to Anton about the incomplete description on the 2-1 roll & he took pity so didn't charge me for the leftover not-great pieces. I felt bad to complain at him but I was being honest. Anyway, not the best visit here, and did take over 90 minus's for one person for lunch . Will have some better plans in the future, if I come back.

Yelp
Awful experience here ! The manager is rude and they pick and choose who they want to serve in a timely manner the only thing that came to us in a timely manner was the water. One of the drinks that we had came to us after our food was served We had three small plates, no silverware no chopsticks no napkins We had to repeatedly call and look for our waiter or some server to bring us the sauces that go with the sushi, fresh menus, pens, to top everything off. They brought the sauce, the spicy mayo, and it had hair in it. All of this when you go to have dinner with your family is exhausting instead of enjoyment. We could not finish eating because of the long wait the baby had finished her food and wanted to run around. I don't even make comments but the behavior we endured here today was awful and rude

Yelp
Zero stars Place has absolutely the worst service! Gave them another chance after waiting over an hour for my carry out order only to ask for a refund. Tonight went in, was seated fairly quickly and sat at the table for 15 minutes and not acknowledged by any server! While 3 other tables in our section were seated after us and served drinks! Walked out! Will never go back to this place again!

Yelp
Sushi was tasty. They have an all you can eat option for 29.99 per person, which is great. The place was packed with all sorts of guests, large parties, teenagers, couples and the sushi was flying out of the kitchen. We had the jalepeno bombs, which were okay. They felt very greasy and heavy fried for Japanese food compared to my previous experiences. The Spicy Tuna and Boston roll were tasty. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely worth the visit. We'll be back in the future.
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
Sushi was pretty good. You need to be willing to eat ~3 rolls of sushi for the all you can eat to make sense during lunch and ~4 for dinner to make sense. Good atmosphere and service.
google avatar

Arkadiusz S.

Yelp
This is great all you can eat sushi restaurant. The selection of specialty rolls, and house rolls is great and the serving size is very generous. They don't have a kids menu but have some a la cart items like fried rice that my daughter enjoys. There is a liquor menu. All you can eat includes small selection of mochi ice cream. Service was fast and very pleasant. The main dinning room is great but doesn't have much of light. The back room has this weird led light that makes everything too bright. Hoping this is just temporary and more inviting lights will be installed. Overall, great experience. We were celebrating my son's birthday the last time we're were here and the server came out with an ice cream desert and a candle.

Yelp
First time at this location.. the one in Westmont has pretty good food too (even tho their service at that location is 'sometimey') The food here was alright. We did the all you could eat & ordered from that menu all night. Calamari was too chewy for me. Miso soup was fine. Service was fine. We'd probably go back & get sweeter tasting sushi to try
google avatar

erica m.

Yelp
Came in for an impromptu date night and wow this place did not disappoint. We had to wait 15-20 mins to be seated it was crowded but I didn't feel crowded once we sat down. We had the fried calamari and at first glance I thought I ordered onion rings because the batter was so thick. Then we share a few rolls. They were absolutely delicious. I didn't do the all you can eat sushi but I think I definitely have to come back to try it.

Barry N.

Yelp
Had dinner AYCE at Sushi Nova and everything was pretty solid. The Fire Dragon Roll and Mango Tango Roll were definitely the standouts--really flavorful and nicely put together. Also enjoyed the avocado salad, miso soup, fried scallop, and calamari--all tasty and fresh. Great variety and everything came out at a good pace. Service was friendly and fast, and the place has a clean, modern vibe that made the whole experience even better. Definitely a good spot if you're craving sushi and want to try a bunch of different things.

Yelp
Love their Westmont location so much that we had to try this location. This location looks slightly larger and more open. Our host and waiter were friendly and stopped by our table often. We had the "all you can eat". Love their signature rolls. The 2 in 1 spicy, volcano, and godzilla rolls are delicious. The restaurant is clean. My only gripe (if you can call it that) is that the restaurant is dimly lit. My bad eyes had trouble seeing the menu #laugh There were 6-8 other people there. We didn't wait long. Our sushi was out in ~15 minutes. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Arianne J.

Yelp
I ordered from here yesterday through Uber eats. My food was packaged properly to protect it, made perfectly and they followed the notes(I have allergies). We ordered 3 different rolls and they were all a very good size and tasted fresh. Update: Ordered again today 7/10 and it's a completely different story. They did not pay attention to the notes and most of my order was incorrect. Shrimp tempura also tasted old
google avatar

Jesse M.

Yelp
We tried their AYCE sushi and it did not disappoint. Our server was great as he kept up with our groups demand. The food quality was up to par and they had a great selection from the giant fried oysters to the desserts. We would definitely repeat in a heartbeat.
google avatar

Yelp
I'm pretty upset. We order from sushi nova all the time- we even travel a bit just to go there. Tonight we placed a large order (per usual) and there was absolutely zero wasabi in the order. I called the location and the manager said there was nothing they could do since they just closed. I have never had sushi without wasabi- nor do I want sushi without wasabi- I asked for a refund since this order is no longer good to me and she said she needs to talk to the owner that she couldn't do a refund for that.... I'm very disappointed- this order is now a waste.

Katie N.

Yelp
We come here a couple times a year for all you can eat sushi. It's always great. It's Affordable, the service is quick and atmosphere is very lively

Teresa C.

Yelp
This is our go to for Sushi in Orland because it's always fresh and fantastic. Weekends can be a long wait but it's well worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Can by for a second try. Was not disappointed. Lunch special is All U. An Eat & 23. Huge selection. Had cucumber salad and miso soup to start. Ordered Saba, hamachi, unagi, smoked salmon and salmon skin roll. All fresh and delicious. This is the only place I come now for sushi when in the South Burbs if Chicago Friendly staff and very clean restaurant.
google avatar

Judy S.

Yelp
Sushi is delicious. All you can eat and I think we tried it all. There are also off the menu items. Service was a little slow, but good. The all you can eat for 30.00 is an incredible price. Nice ambiance, I did t think much of the back room. That area had a big annoying light thar was very out of place. Thar said if you are hungry for sushi. .. this is a great stop!

Lis P.

Yelp
We tried sushi nova for the first time and we were not disappointed! everything we ordered was delicious
google avatar

Robyn T.

Yelp
The sushi was decent. Definitely not the best I've ever had. The rice didn't have much flavor. The miso soup was tasty and so were the octopus balls. The mai tai was delicious and they didn't skimp on the alcohol. The service was good and they were very quick getting the food out. For $30 AYCE, I would go back again.
google avatar

Shareef Y.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and the place never fails to provide top-notch food with quality service.
google avatar

Andre A.

Yelp
We ordered food for delivery. The food was decent but nothing special. We had sushi rolls (maki), fried rice, crab Rangoon. The sushi was the best part. I wouldn't mind checking out a dine in experience here sometime.
google avatar

Kerease E.

Yelp
We went to Sushi Nova on a Friday for dinner and took part in the AYCE option. We were comfortably seated at a table that was able to accommodate 6 adults and 2 infants. The waiter was very nice and the food rolled out at a comfortable pace. The shumai and miso soup were standard and enjoyable. I was only able to try two rolls as they were so large and I was full from the appetizers.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Disappointed by the ambience and the food. Dimly lit made it difficult to read the menu. Restaurant was also chilly inside. My wife had to leave her coat on during the lunch meal. We had the all you can eat sushi special. Very reasonably priced but not quite up to other sushi restaurants. The eel nigiri was icy cold and the rice was also cold. The rainbow roll was also very cold. I asked the waiter if it was made fresh or premade. He really didn't give an answer, but my tastebuds knew. My appetizer was shui mei. I requested steamed instead of fried. They also had a little chill to them. Tasted like they were the ones I purchase out of the freezer at my Asian grocery store....only I steam them to be piping hot. I will not return I noticed a sign when I entered the restaurant. It said they are going to open a new restaurant in Lincoln Park West. If they duplicate the quality of the food product for the Lincoln Park crowd they will fold fast. There is too much quality competition in the area for them to survive.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
I have been to their sister location in Westmont, so I decided to give this location a try. This location is straight up. They put signs on the door that with all you can eat, if you don't finish, you will be charged. Great way to cut down on food waste! Keep in mind that you can order more if what you started with doesn't fill you up. This location is a lot nicer inside than Westmont. Great friendly service. Delicious sushi. It was a little dark inside, but other than that, I had a great experience.
google avatar

R J.

Yelp
Get here at 1230 on a Monday (bad timing), they close at 1 to get ready for dinner rush. The staff will tell you to hurry and order. I didn't research Food was good, rolls were good quality. The ambiance is a bit dark and the booth we were in looked lived in and that a child was let loose with a pen. This might be a better take out option.

Jake L.

Yelp
Servers are always very attentive and polite. The sushi itself is very good and never disappoints. This is my favorite spot for all you can eat sushi without a doubt
google avatar

pablo a.

Yelp
I'll start with the food, sushi was delicious. I like the all you can eat menu it allows the customer to try new and different type of sushi or appetizers. Service was very fast and the waiter was okay. The ambiance of the restaurant is good as decorations and art in the restaurant are cool and bring the restaurant color. I definitely recommend for sushi only and appetizers. I don't recommend the noodles as they had a weird taste but other than that we will be back for SUSHI!!

Nick B.

Yelp
The food is fresh and is cooked perfectly every time we come here. Our server Fauzi is also extremely friendly and you can tell he is very hardworking. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi.
google avatar

Marco F.

Yelp
Decided to try this gem again and see if their fruit fly problem was gone. Big improvement...saw 1!! As for their food..... GREAT! The service was great too. Place was busy.
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
This is the best AYCE sushi spot in the suburbs! (I been to 4 already :/). Went in a Friday night the wait was an hr. They had a great selection of hand rolls and appetizers! They had cook cocktails too! The place does get a little loud at night, but over all the food and the service was great! You can also do a la carte, fyi.. they don't have a kids menu.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the 'all you can eat' option. Very good quality. Very fresh. Great service. I'll definately go back, and bring friends with me!!!!

Jasmine C.

Yelp
The Angry Dragon is delicious! My all time favorite. Customer service is excellent as well! The restaurant also looks clean. 10/10 would recommend.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
The imaginative signature rolls make this Asian fusion restaurant worthwhile. One of my favorite was the dancing eel roll. I enjoyed the sauce on it, though some of the sauces used on other rolls were too sweet. What's not to enjoy? The spring rolls were pre-made from a box and I had heart burn later on. I suspect it's the oil that was used. The fish was average quality, which is fine for the signature rolls. I would not order a sushi or sashimi dinner here, just have the signature maki rolls with their sauces.
google avatar

Maricel J.

Yelp
I came here with my dearest friends and to celebrate one of their birthdays. We chose items from the All-You-Can-Eat menu because we wanted a little bit of everything, plus groups are allowed to share. Everything was plated beautifully and was delicious. I especially loved their crab rangoons because they are lighter than most other restaurants and their shrimp shumai was just as tasty; same with their sushi. I will definitely be back to try other dishes.

Damien B.

Yelp
The food was terrible customer service was terrible and I heard the owner of the place is under paying there employees

Christie Y.

Yelp
This was the best sushi ever. Service was outstanding and the restaurant ambiance would be great for a date. I went with my daughter and observed couples, friends, families and business associates eating there.
google avatar

Tori P.

Yelp
This is our go-to Sushi spot for the past couple years. We make the drive out from Braidwood, IL to come here and treat ourselves. They kept the all you can eat sushi even through the pandemic which was a must have for us (I have a 6'3 220lb boyfriend that eats like a dump truck). The servers are always attentive and polite. The restaurant is big enough that I think we've only had to wait 10 minutes once over the years we've been coming here. Best place to come for a date night with your loved one and pig out! The highlight for me has to be when they were giving everyone a hello kitty metal chopsticks and ramen spoon set sometime after the new year. I still have them and I love I got it from my favorite spot!

Cupid S.

Yelp
I tried again today and got ill. I can't go here ever again. I shouldn't have tried again but the location is good for me. I will never return.

Jordan ..

Yelp
We used to love this place, been going to it for years, but tonight was a massive disappointment. Both rolls we ordered were not even close to the quality or flavor we have come to expect. I have no idea what happened, but I doubt I will give it another try.
google avatar

Kimmie R.

Yelp
This is not a 5 star sushi restaurant, but it became one because of their all you can eat sushi deal. I've never seen an all you can eat sushi offer that came with speciality rolls, sashimi, caviar, appetizers, and pretty much anything you could imagine. It was like $26 or $28. I had a whole pot of green tea. The little pot was so cute with the bamboo handle. They brought the pot to the table for me to serve myself and I enjoyed it. I wasn't going to get the all you can eat deal until I noticed their specialty rolls were $18 each and I wanted two, so I got the all you can eat deal. Once I got the deal the waitress reminded me I could use the menus to see the different types of rolls. Big nod to them for making such a a great menu. Rolls can have the same name and be made very different so if you have food allergies you need to see a picture and a list of ingredients in English. I felt comfortable ordering. Their food was pretty good. What do they need to do to improve? How about if someone has the all you can eat deal they can order a half or roll? The rolls are so many pieces. The bathrooms are decent, but one toilet stall for the entire restaurant was a bit much and caused a wait. The layout of the restaurant makes it a great place to catch up with friends and talk. We weren't pressured to order more or less. They didn't force alcohol on us, and we didn't feel judged for wanting more. Lastly, I am so impressed that pieces of sashimi comes with their all you can eat sushi deal. Most all you can eat places try to get people to fill up on rice so they don't allow single pieces of sushi. I was very happy with the deal, parking, customer service and the hot tea. Now in the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, I will be back!
google avatar

Ashleigh S.

Yelp
Update: we have not returned to the restaurant but we did go ahead and give other local restaurants our business. I get the notifications when my review is "helpful" yet what would be helpful is if Skylar kept her promise she made over the phone .If you want a better deal on all you can eat sushi plus good service go to koi bistro in Bourbonnais. They made up for the disappointment. I wasn't looked at some type of way by the others in the 2nd restaurant compared to the first. Server was also way nicer at koi bistro compared to sushi nova! Guess you have to constantly "look in the 10's" in order to be treated with respect.

Yelp
So my kids love the CHICKEN yaki Udon noodles from this place my wife had sushi with her sisters here last year so she loved it, myself I'm a little skeptical about any sushi in the south side of Chicago but hey you have to try it before you knock it. Anyway my kids wanted the noodles we place two orders $30.73 total I was like did I brake a window what happen here, hey kids love it prices are going up let's do it I arrived home they open one order and then my wife mention to me what happen to the chicken and I was what do you mean, she was it had like no chicken at all. I was well let me check the other order and I took out all the vegetables then all the noodles and bam the chicken ratio to beget and noodles was very very low....it should be called vegetables Yalu udon noodles. I know prices are up but if you going to charge more you have to give out more as well this is not acceptable, the chicken was cut paper thin! Not cool at all owners have to see this!

Yelp
Amazing interior! Staff is very welcoming and knowledgeable about the food and beverages. Holy cow these rolls are huge!!! All appetizers and sushi was incredible. Priced very well.

Gabriel C.

Yelp
This is the sushi place! The all you can eat sushi is a good deal, and it has a lot of options to choose from. Fish is fresh and the rice is cooked to perfection. Sushi Nova does get packed on the weekends, so I suggest going on the weekday. The drinks are great as well! Overall, it's a great place and perfect for a date.
