I’ve always passed by Sushi O on Glenwood Ave and finally decided to try it out with a friend for dinner. This was my first time dining there. We chose to sit outside to enjoy the weather, and while the wait time was reasonable, we ran into an issue right away—there were a lot of cockroaches around the first outdoor table, which made us uncomfortable. We asked to move to another table, and the staff accommodated us. We started with the fried calamari—it was just okay, nothing special. Our server was friendly and helpful throughout the meal. We ordered Coke, but it tasted flat, almost like it had no flavor. We also got soup, which turned out to be way too spicy for our taste, so we asked to swap our soups for something else. We ordered sushi as our main course. Again, it was just fine—nothing bad, but not memorable either. The atmosphere outside was nice overall, especially if you want to relax with a drink and enjoy the street view, but the presence of bugs really took away from the experience. One other downside is the parking—it’s very limited and hard to find a spot nearby. In summary, Sushi O has a nice vibe and decent service, but the food and cleanliness (especially outdoors) need improvement. I might come back for drinks, but probably not for a full meal.

Google
his sushi was absolutely fantastic! The presentation alone deserves praise—everything was neatly packed, vibrant, and fresh-looking. The variety was impressive, from perfectly sliced salmon and tuna sashimi to beautifully prepared nigiri with eel, octopus, and shrimp. Each piece had that delicate balance of flavor and texture that only comes from top-quality ingredients. The rolls were tightly wrapped, the fish was buttery and fresh, and even the garnishes of ginger and wasabi tasted crisp and clean. I also really appreciated the thoughtful extras like the sprouts and onion slices, which added a nice freshness to the meal. It’s clear a lot of care went into both preparation and presentation. Easily one of the best takeout sushi experiences I’ve had—fresh, flavorful, and satisfying from start to finish. Highly recommend! 🍣

Google
Never ordering here again. All I ordered was a sweet dragon roll only one piece came with the avocado and the entire thing was missing the spicy mayo. Restaurant wasn’t even busy don’t understand how they could mess up my order! Had no choice but to eat because I didn’t have time to get anything else.

Google
More like a 3.5, came here today just for the $5 martini specials they have on Thursdays. I've been here to eat before but not to drink. I sat at the bar I ordered 2 different martinis. First was the Tokyo cosmo second was the tsunami . They had the hostess making the drinks which was weird and he tried his best to make the cocktails but I'll admit I've had better martinis others places. It also was a bit warm in there considering it was a 90 degree day out. I may give them another try on another day with another drink special.

the Sushi is phenomenal and the best in Raleigh. Indoor seating is also really pleasant. Would recommend this spot to anyone that is into sushi and Asian cuisine.

Google
Honestly, this was a great experience! My friends and I decided together since it’s been a while and chose this place! SO GLAD WE DID! Parking- there is a parking deck in the back and you don’t have to pay if you are dining here. Just let the host know your parking spot number. Love that. Food- TOO GOOD. So we got the Chicken Pad Thai, steak and shrimp hibachi, the sesame chicken, and hot and sour soup! Sushi- Spiderman Roll, Surf and Turf, Flamingo, spider roll (I think) and the Crunchy King Everything was really good but my favorite was the Spider-Man roll! This was some of the best pad Thai I have had and it’s not spicy at all but still full of flavor. The hibachi gave everything that it needed and the steak was tender. You honestly can’t go wrong with sesame chicken! Crispy and juicy! Now that hot and sour soup! 8/10 very good and the flavor was deep! Oh the chicken and shrimp fried rice - 10/10 for me!!! Service- the lady that served us was very sweet and attentive. The restaurant gives a great ambiance and we all enjoyed our time there! Would definitely come back!!! Check them out and #tellemGabbbsentya!

I am not from the area and decided to take a chance on sushi at this restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised. Firstly, our server, Michael was a tall glass of chocolate milk that never failed to impress. He was attentive, hardworking, and timely. We were definitely impressed by him. Not to mention he was hilarious. Second, the sushi was fresh and delicious. Third, the atmosphere was very fun and inviting. Fourth, I loved the speed at which everything came out. Thank you sushi o!!

Google
Second time dining at this great establishment. Ordered the lettuce wraps again! $3 draft beers on Monday was a bonus. Such reasonable prices, large portions, attentive & kind staff. We also had the miso soup, egg drop soup, and ginger chicken, all delicious. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I last went to Sushi O but I was on Glenwood during the Memorial Day weekend and craving sushi. Outside of the restaurant Glenwood was packed but the restaurant itself was quieter and a good escape. I went to the bar and they immediately cleaned up what was left from a previous meal. Started off with the steamed shrimp dumplings, they were generously stuffed but not very flavorful. I had to drown each one in sauce. The sushi was an experimental choice on my part, The Hawaiian roll, the roll was great but the pineapple just didn't make sense for me. The lychee martini was strong and you really like the lychee flavor, just wish they had some of the actual lychee fruit in it. Service was friendly and the bartender made sure my water was never empty!

Yelp
Came to sushi o for a last minute dinner after another reservation fell through. We were seated quickly despite the restaurant being quite busy. Service was okay but it is restaurant week and was late on a Saturday so I don't fault them for that--our server was very attentive when she came by I just think maybe she was stretched a little thin. The sushi was yummy -I had the firecracker roll and the mango roll. Only critique was that the sushi could have been colder but again I think that was a symptom of it being Saturday night of restaurant week and having to pump out more orders than usual. Still our go to spot for sushi on glenwood.

Yelp
We love visiting this place. The drinks are always great (it's hard to find a good espresso martini, but they do it). The sushi and noodles are amazing and the servers are always very attentive and friendly. It feels very warm and welcoming inside. This is one of our favorite spots.

Yelp
The presentation of the green tea was so cute and the tea itself was great. Our server was so sweet, she even offered to refill the hot water for me unprompted. My sushi roll was fantastic, I'm still craving it! The restaurant itself was cozy and slightly crowded, but that made for a fun ambiance. The prices were very fair/affordable as well. I'd recommend making reservations on the weekend since it's a popular spot. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Sushi O is definitely on of my go to spots for Sushi in downtown Raleigh. The sushi and rice is always fresh and they have a variety of rolls to choose from. My favorite is the Crunchy King and their Sushi Sashimi combo. Sushi O has features drink specials on the weekdays which I think is great. The ambiance is very inviting and had plenty of room both inside or outside on the patio.
google avatar

Jessica O.

Yelp
We sat on the patio with our dog. Service was great. The menu was extensive and was mainly Japanese (including sushi). We went with the tuna tartare (yum), sushi & sashimi combo plate and the Sushi O roll. The sashimi & sushi were generously cut and the tartare was flavorful. If it weren't for my dog, I'd have probably never noticed but the patio was pretty dirty. Other than that, solid choice for a great lunch or dinner!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Was seated promptly. My server Ava was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the pineapple rice with chicken. The dish was very flavorful but much larger portion than I could finish.

Andy N.

Yelp
Took a bit to get seat but that's understandable considering it was a Saturday night. Host clearly hated their life; no one likes their job but be a professional and don't make it so obvious. However the waitress was friendly and considerate. Food 3/10. Decent cocktails. Arrived at reasonable time but quality was bad. Like the plating was good but the quality of the ingredients are cheap and distasteful. It wouldn't have been so bad if the prices weren't so steep. Good atmosphere. Okay place if you're already out drinking or plan to. Wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for GOOD sushi.

Yelp
After a couple of drinks at nearby Tin Roof, we went to Sushi O for real food. We were seated right away on a quiet Wednesday night. There's seating inside and outside, it was a little chilly, so we sat inside. Mirelle was our amazing server. We started out with water while we browsed the menu. Mirelle was super attentive. We both ordered appetizers and a roll. Everything came out in perfect timing, appetizers first, followed by our rolls. I added mango to my roll, the super roll, what an amazing choice. The roll was so good, I didn't want to finish it. The flavor profile was absolutely amazing. My mouth is watering as I remember it. The service was great and the food was delicious.

Yelp
Delicious food. Wonderful drinks & very good service. The atmosphere was chill & cheery. The music was nice & not too loud! Unfortunately, it won't let me upload all my delicious delectables!! Worth every single penny!!

Feefer N.

Yelp
Great quality sushi, truly satisfied with portions! not fanciest atmosphere if wanting date night spot, yet we have kids, so what we were looking for. Slow service tho when we went, we came kind of late after 2pm, not many tables and not sure why so slow?

Yelp
Had a date night and we decided to try three restaurants in one night. One for appetizers, one for dinner and one for dessert. This was our appetizer restaurant. We started with the Gyoza and they were delicious. We decided to get another appetizer, and we should've stayed with the gyoza. We ended up taking our server suggestion which was the crab wontons. They should be called cheese wontons, there was no sight of crab. Since I was the designated driver I just had water. My friend ordered the Prosecco which they hd two, one said dry and the other one was not. It came to the table in a small bottle but she didn't read it until after she poured it in the glass and tasted and it was a dry Prosecco which she didn't like. The waitress was very nice, oh and they do validate parking, which is a plus for the no parking glenwood ave. I did see some items on the menu I would like to try, so we may go back.

Yelp
Food: lunch bento box, large portions Service: attentive and friendly Ambiance: moody red tones, chill music Went for lunch and I typically get sushi but decided to get the $16 lunch bento box. Totally worth it especially with how big the portions are

Yelp
Was visiting Raleigh for a weekend as was recommended this restaurant by a friend. The setting is pretty open and I didn't feel like customers were piled on top of one another. If the weather was better, I might have ventured for their outdoor seating. Our waiter was charismatic and helpful throughout the dinner. He knew his product when it came to drinks and food. I ordered the spicy garlic chicken wings as an appetizer. I wish I would've taken a picture of them, but they were honestly some of the best chicken wings I've had at a restaurant. For my entree, I ordered the steak and chicken hibachi. It was good, but nothing to write home about. I would have to visit the establishment more in order to get an idea of the quality of the food. But my experience says this a great place to catch up with friends or make a regular safe place to go eat!

Aparna F.

Yelp
The service here is horrible. We ordered four rolls of sushi (one not shown). The sushi was stale and obviously old with no flavor. The worst part was the preparation, those sushi rolls you see that are mangled are untouched! Some had no fish in them, avocado hanging out, and not even folded! It was disgusting. Worst of all, when we brought this to the managers attention, he acted like we were trying to scam him with free food. You didn't even serve us food, so scam you of what? We had no problem paying for the drink we bought, but he made us pay for the rest of the "food" despite it being untouched. The manager here is a piece of work who doesn't care about the food, customer service, or public health. He should get his license removed. If you like being given a hard time on a date night, definitely check this place out.
google avatar

Dina L.

Yelp
So many diners encouraged me to try this place. Service is very friendly. My salmon sashimi salad looked beautiful with bright orange segments and an avocado fan. The spicy dressing was terrible. I asked for and was given a ginger dressing without complaints. The sale was refreshing until I came across a hair that totally ruined my appetite. This place has a high health rating so probably a fluke. Still, it impacted the score and I likely won't eat there again.

Yelp
Birthday date with Bae. I loved it! -2024- Nice and quiet. Staff was very sweet. I loved my sushi . I had fried for the first time since one of my orders I didn't know it would be raw, but they fixed it for me and I loved every bit. I also got a free treat for my birthday .

Maya M.

Yelp
I hate leaving negative reviews but came here on a date night and ordered several dishes. The tuna tartar was absolute inedible. The slices were far too thick, low grade tuna and such a fishy odor. The calamari was overly breaded and seasonless. The bang bang shrimp wasn't even properly coated in sauce they just gave some on the side. The dumplings were decent but nothing to rave about. We canceled the rest of our order bc it wasn't worth the price or satisfaction

Justin L.

Yelp
Ordered Sushi Deluxe and Shrimp Tempura Roll. The food was so good, tasted fresh, and incredibly well prepared. Melissa our server was fabulous and had such great menu knowledge. She helped us with the menu ensuring we ordered the perfect dishes. The restaurant feels warm and welcoming and would highly recommend.
google avatar

Morena G.

Yelp
We tried this restaurant for the first time. We ordered the Mary Roll, chicken Pad thai, wasabi roll and sake bomb. We cleaned our plates!

Yelp
I like to go out & have lunch on Fridays after a long work week. On Friday 24Feb I went alone to Sushi O, and I was greeted with "just one"? by the "hostess" The insinuation is that "just one" means I cannot seem to have found anyone else to join me for my meal. The "just one" is possibly one of the most unpolished & rude comments someone can say to you when dining alone. Because people should have manners and understand dining alone is a thing people do, the tall white hostess with green pants & black shirt should be in tune with this. Because of her abrupt rudeness I was dumbfounded for a moment, because normally I would have said "yes, just one. Thanks for pointing out that I'm myself" My lunch was not enjoyable because at that point I was just one. Not a manager to be found, and apparently no one to care. I'll certainly not be adding Sushi O to my repertoire of lunch places going forward. One person can ruin the good name & reputation of a restaurant by using hurtful words of "just one".

Yelp
I love this place! My best friend and I came here and order so many apps and entrees and eat until our hearts content! Lol But seriously! I love their apps and sushi! Definitely try it out!

Yelp
What a wonderful place off Glenwood Avenue! I am so happy I chose to come here for sushi. It did not disappoint. The Bang Bang shrimp roll was absolutely delicious. Let's not forget about the 35% off sushi roll deal. I also ordered the spicy garlic edamame and it was so flavorful and light. The service was great and the inside is cute. They have their hours listed as opening at 4pm on Friday, but they actually said 5pm when we got their at 4:15pm. I'm glad we waited for them to open. It was worth it.

Mallory H.

Yelp
Dude this sucks! $70 on dry, warm sushi! Not recommended for my friend or enemy. Only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is for the crab rangoons - those are pretty good.
google avatar

Kierstyn M.

Yelp
Delicious! Great service and great food! Love the outdoor seating! I went with the boyfriend and sister. We started with the bang bang shrimp. Perfection. That was my first time eating that and they set the bar high! Next we ordered 4 sushi rolls. My sister got the mermaid roll and the super roll. I got the daddy roll and crazy fire roll. The daddy roll was definitely my favorite. Great time. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Doug H.

Yelp
This has got to be the best place in Raleigh to get Sushi. Price is great and service is #1. I have tried at least 10 other places.

Yelp
What a great find on our trip to Raleigh! We stopped by for lunch today on our way out of town and they graciously sat us outside so we could enjoy the beautiful weather on this abnormally cool June day. The server checked on us regularly, too. I've found that at times you can be forgotten when sitting outside, but we were properly cared for during our visit. The food was just amazing. The Tom Kha soup was the most flavorful I've ever had, with a depth of flavor that let me know it had been simmered for a while. The Hot and Sour soup was also a delicious treat, with just enough vinegar to make it tart and hearty. The spring rolls were made in house and packed with fresh veggies. I can always tell when an establishment uses the frozen ones, and this one was completely fresh! The sesame chicken arrived crisp and hot with a side of steamed broccoli and white rice. It was perfectly cooked. The sushi rolls we ordered were both delicious. Tightly wrapped and prepared perfectly. The Bang Bang Shrimp roll was the clear winner with the crispy shrimp and shredded crab studding the top. Mine was the Super Roll, which was ok, but I didn't care for the beef on top. Cooked well, just not my thing I guess. If we come back to Raleigh, this will likely be in our restaurant line up!
google avatar

Erin W.

Yelp
Solid spot for BOGO. Lots of patio seating and good view of Glenwood for people watching. Not the fanciest sushi in Raleigh but a good deal for the price. It's laid back and had a ton of sushi roll options. They also have cooked Asian dishes if you're not in the mood for sushi
google avatar

Saloni T.

Yelp
This is one of the best places to get vegetarian rolls in the triangle! Their outdoor dining is also my summer favorite. My order: Bunny roll : Cucumber, carrot and avocado topped with our seasoned bean curd Veggy dynamite roll : Tofu, avocado, and cucumber inside. Topped with spicy mayo. I always get their steamed vegetable gyoza too, so good! Due to Covid-19, they are no longer offering BOGO Sushi Rolls but they do have 35% off instead. Show them some love Outdoor seating & a no-touch QR code menu

Yelp
This was my second time coming here. The first time I came it was on a date so I decided to enjoy the vibes alone this time. This spot is definitely great for dates, friend outings, family or solo by the way. The hostess spent no time finding me a seat but it took quite a minute to have my order taken (about 15 mins give it take) However, given how good the food was last time, I stayed and waited. By the time the waitress came to my table I knew exactly what I wanted. I ordered the salt & pepper calamari ($8), crunchy roll ($9.50), and a mimosa ($5). It took about 10 mins maybe for everything to be brought out. The food was good per usual. The calamari was seasoned well and crunchy how I like it and the sushi was delicious. Fresh and flavorful as usual. Minus the small hiccup with taking my order I'll definitely be back and I recommend this place to anyone who wants some sushi or drinks.
google avatar

Marla C.

Yelp
Appetizers are delicious and enough for me. My favorites are the Crab Wontons, bang bang shrimp and vegetable rolls
google avatar

James P.

Yelp
The food and the service is good. I had the hot and sour soup as well as the hot sake. Both were very good. I enjoyed sitting outside people watching. I will come back again soon.
google avatar

Chelsea N.

Yelp
Everyone who ate the food with our party ended up sick. I will NEVER go back. 1) it was INCREDIBLY HOT inside. I'm not sure if AC was broken or not, but it was humid and unbearable. 2) they refuse to make anything without the raw ingredients. All of their sushi rolls had the * indicating it was raw even if it wasn't prepared with raw fish. 3) the service was incredibly awful. All the staff stood around talking and playing on their cell phones and it took AT LEAST an hr to get us our food and then the waitress never came back. 4) the waitress literally set down every dish she handed me in front of my 11 month old child. I know it's his fault for trying to grab it but she did it MULTIPLE times. 5) also- you pay a decent amount for these rolls but they're overwhelmingly small compared to some places. Spend the extra money at sushi blues down the street. This place just isn't worth it.
google avatar

Jada C.

Yelp
Amazing sooooo good you have a forever costume so clean and fresh I will be here with all my friends.the service was so nice a fast I was shocked I'm just in love great service keep it up.

Brian G. M.

Yelp
This place is pretty mid. The food tastes on par with something you'd cook up from the grocery store and not that fresh. The waitress got my order wrong and the way the seating was set up, it was hard to talk to the person sitting across from me without having to lean across the table. The wait staff was extremely polite and friendly, but I wouldn't come back here again.
google avatar

Cherish B.

Yelp
OKAY THIS WAS THE BEST SUSHI I HAVE EVER HAD!!! PLUS all of the rolls were BOGO! Honestly run, don't walk, to Sushi O, because it is worth every penny. These were the freshest rolls I have ever had. I ate so much that my friend basically had to roll me out of the restaurant.
google avatar

Britnique 'Lola' H.

Yelp
Sushi O has great sushi for a reasonable price. They do have buy one get one free....so you get a good deal. The price range is about $10-$18 for one roll. The more seafood packed the roll is the more you'll pay. The sushi menu definitely gives you options and if you like sushi you should be able to find a winning roll here. If you don't like sushi...there is something for you too. They have other entrees. Note: They no longer have a children's menu. On the weekends parking can be difficult...it is located on Glenwood; a busy part of downtown Raleigh! This does have its perks though...there are plenty of bars, clubs and social houses in walking distance if you want to go out after dinner. I recommend sushi O!
google avatar

Crystal V.

Yelp
Have not been disappointed! Their sushi is reasonable priced and delicious! Their pad Thai was amazing! Their green curry delightful! Service is always great!!! We love sushi o!
google avatar

Lucas B.

Yelp
me and my mother just came here and it was delish, the service was great and the sushi was spectacular
google avatar

Clay A.

Yelp
TRY SUSHI O!!! Was an avid sushi blues goer for so long until Sushi O stole my heart. The wait times are unusually short and always baffles me. I'd expect to wait 40 minutes on a friday night but I'm typically seated right away. My favorite drink is the midouri martini is to die for. For appetizers we always get the spicy edamame, With their sushi being all rolls for 35% off this makes a affordable date night! I have yet to have a roll I dislike.
google avatar

Mitzi V.

Yelp
Bomb! Oh My Goodness... Stopped in during Restaurant Week we grabbed a couple of rolls and the Garlic Chicken Wings and I felt as if I had been missing out! Those Garlic Chicken Wings are delicious!!! If one enjoys crispy, garlicky, tender fried wings in a sweet garlic sauce... Then this place will not disappoint. We ordered the Bang Bang sushi roll and it too was delicious. I must say, we were somewhat like "okay, let's see", simply because the server a few different cuisines, but next time I'll try the Pad Thai Not to mention, the customer service was exceptional was well!
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
The food was amazing. My waitress went above, and beyond what I asked and did a great job. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who likes sushi

Arion S.

Yelp
By far the best sushi I have had in quite some time. Definitely recommend a visit here.
google avatar

Anissa W.

Yelp
This place has gained a repeat customer from me! The sushi was amazing. Tasted so fresh, so many options, great value, and great presentation. When i went they had a special half off bottles of wine, which sold me completely!
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
We tried these rolls and they were all great! Tigress roll, Daddy roll, Sushi O roll and crunchy king roll.
google avatar

Kate W.

Yelp
Went here for dinner and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of outdoor seating they have added! My wife and ordered some sushi and a meat entree which were both delicious! They have an ongoing special for 35% off sushi (dine in and take out). The service was a little slow despite there being a seemingly good number of staff but all interactions were pleasant. We didn't try any drinks this time but will definitely be sure to do so when we return!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty cool spot, service was average but the sushi were good. My rolls were a bit too large but super tasty, we weren't a fan of the Tom yum soup but love the egg drop and wonton soup. Our favorite was the nigiri and sashimi. The mackerel was amazing.
