The Best Restaurants in Portland’s Arbor Lodge Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Sushi One offers Arbor Lodgers a prototypical neighborhood sushi restaurant, with a particular emphasis on freshly sourced ingredients and generous portions. While nigiri, sashimi, and rolls are the main attraction, Sushi One also offers excellent ramen as well as some land-locked entrees like teriyaki and yakisoba. Order takeout or dine in the small, unpretentious dining room." - Nathan Williams

A “Super Fabulous” B

Google
I was a little reluctant not knowing the area and just visiting for a little bit. But to my surprise, food was good and I had no complaints. Service was a bit slow, but it’s small and they were pretty busy. If you love sushi, you’re not worried about fancy dining this is the place to go.

Google
I usually take my time to leave review because I know how much it helps business. This sushi restaurant is awesome, not only is it fresh, the pricing and presentation are both excellent. We were having a quick bite on our way to the airport to pick up our friends, and they make everything fast and easy.

Google
We recently moved to the area and this was our first time trying this place (we ordered takeout this time). We ordered the citrus salmon and the Alaska, Denver, and Rainbow rolls. Everything was fresh and delicious! Happy to have such a great sushi restaurant in our neighborhood! We will definitely be back 😋

Google
We walked in on a Saturday evening. No reservations. No long wait. We were seated with waters right away, and the waitress was incredibly attentive. We ordered and got our other drinks quickly. I swear I blinked and our food, all of it was ready at our table! It was really good. Its in our neighborhood so we will definitely be back. It was very affordable too.

How have I lived in this neighborhood and not been here since the new ownership took over?! Really amazing sushi. The sashimi slices are so thick and fresh - we were literally stuffed with one regular order of sashimi (12 pieces) and 2 unagi nigiri (between two of us) that we couldn't even eat the MASSIVE One Special Roll we also ordered and had to take that one to go. Great sake and beer selections as well. Wonderful, sweet staff and owners as well. We will be back regularly!

Google
First time customer and I loved Sushi One. Only caveat, this was my first sushi dinner in years so if you're a sushi connoisseur then you'll need to make your own assessment. We ordered these: delicious sake, tasty sashimi appetizer, massive Oregon Coast roll, savory veggie tempura, generous seaweed salad, and standard inari nigiri, miso soup, & green tea. Comfortable seating. Attentive service with helpful suggestions.

Google
Definitely a new favorite! Extremely friendly and efficient service, thanks Andrew! Everything we got was delicious and we ended up ordering seconds then desert. The quality of the fish here is something that is hard to find elsewhere so the price is definitely worth it. I’m very happy to see that it was also very busy, so expect a bit of a wait around dinner time.

Google
The sashimi and the rolls were so fresh and so incredibly delicious! Our service was slow this evening bc a sushi chef was out sick, so it was a one man show, run by the owner. The quality more then made up for the wait. They seem to have a good, local, take out business too. This little shop rivals the best of them.

Yelp
First time trying this neighborhood spot, and it's really good! Such a nice surprise. The sushi was so fresh and tasty, and the nigiri was generous. I loved the West Coast roll with salmon and scallop. The atmosphere is pretty minimal, and there is a tv screen inexplicably showing items from the menu and even pics of the inside of the restaurant you are sitting in. This is niggling, but I asked what the chef's recommended fresh fish for the day was, and the server said, "Well, the salmon is pretty popular..." That's a very common courtesy to the sushi chef to ask their recommendations, or for them to have a board showing their best fish for that day. All that said, thumbs up on Sushi One!

Yelp
Love this place! The service is always spot on and sushi delicious.....The fam loves the chicken teriyaki

Yelp
Pros: great service, good sushi. Cons: food poisoning, if you order cooked dishes. You'd think it was the sushi, but nope, they have no idea how to cook a grilled dish. Went in at 7pm with a group of 5, and we'd called ahead. They told us 25 minute wait, and we got there 15 minutes later and were seated pretty quickly. We ordered individually, a mix of sushi rolls and cooked plates. I ordered the salmon teriyaki since I'm not a sushi person, and we also got a pot of green tea for the table. The teapot was refilled promptly when we finished it the first time. Food comes and portion sizes look great! They gave me a huge chunk of salmon on my plate so I was excited. However, on starting to eat it I realized that the salmon was not cooked beyond the beautifully grilled surface, and it was fully raw, translucent and cold on the inside. I flagged down our server, who immediately apologized, recognized that it should be fully cooked, and took it back to be remade. A few minutes later, another server came by to tell me they were now out of the salmon teriyaki, and offered to either remove it from the bill or make a slightly different dish. I opted for the dish (salmon collar). However before it came out, I started to feel pretty sick and excused myself to go to the restroom. I'll spare the restroom details, but I was not having a good time. I could also overhear the server in the kitchen, berating the chef for the uncooked salmon, and even saying "this is the fifth time this has happened". Turns out I was not the first victim of this issue. My table asked for a box to go for the salmon collar dish. When I came back, the original server came back to apologize again, and to also tell us they had discounted our bill for the experience. They were very genuinely apologetic and I appreciated their effort to remedy the issue. At this point we'd been at this restaurant a little longer than we'd planned to be, mostly due to the remade dish and the amount of time I'd been in the restroom with a stomachache. We left at around 9pm. I heard from the rest of my group that the sushi was good, but their experience was tainted by what happened to me. And the last cherry on top - the next day, my partner went to heat up the boxed salmon collar dish. These pieces were smaller, but also grilled. Even after reheating it, we found that the salmon collar was still raw on the inside. We threw it away. If you're already on the way here, stick to the sushi. Don't get any cooked dishes. The service worked very hard to make up for the incident, but we won't be returning.

Yelp
Bonus points to the restaurant for their generous portions of truly bad sushi. We ordered for take out over the phone and went in to pick it up so we didn't really examine the bag and it's contents. We found later at home that the first red bag should have been the irregularly cut orange slices accompanying our "Citrus Salmon Sashimi." The sashimi was basically chunks of salmon cut in no regular order - like poke cuts but worse - fitted into a hollow orange rind with the 2 ends of the orange peel decorating the whole thing like a pair of Mickey Mouse ears. There were 4 tiny slices of avocado to, I guess, pair with this whole feast which couldn't save the sashimi from having any real taste or flavor of citrus or good salmon. Second red flag was the seared albacore nigiri pieces looking like it was standing up straight from how dry it was. While I believe the intent was to sear the piece of fish, the result was a half cooked, thin slice of fish on top of rice. Unpleasant to eat. Last few things: the ratio of rice to filling/topping on the sushi rolls (we got the west coast roll) was basically 1-to-1. You'd get full off 3 pieces, no matter your appetite -- trust. Anyway, the reviews on this place has given me trust issues with highly rated sushi places in Portland. My partner and I were both fighting for our lives in the bathroom last night. Other than the exciting turn of the night, Sushi One has not impressed in any other way.

Yelp
Food was amazing can't wait to come back. Service was amazing. Ambiance was great felt right at home

Yelp
Really great sushi option in northern Portland! The proprietors are the loveliest Korean folks. We will be back. Smaller space with tight parking, but big taste. Fresh, delicate, balanced, beautiful!

Yelp
Do not order here unless you love mayo. I've had rolls elsewhere with too much mayo for my preference, I prefer a light drizzle. But I've never seen anything like this. Completely inedible. The roll is drenched in Mayo and other sauces. It's hard to see in the pictures fully but there has got to be at least 1/2 a CUP of mayo slopped on this roll. I ordered the Ocean Scallop from the "Sashimi" section of door dash. I expected slices of large ocean scallops. Perhaps I'm wrong but I was under the impression that sashimi meant just the fish. I had no idea it would be minced scallops in globs of mayo in a seaweed wrap... This is not at all what I expected from an upscale sushi restaurant. Super disappointed.

Yelp
Came here with a group of friends on a Saturday evening and it was packed. There was a constant stream of people coming through to eat, so we were pretty excited. Bottom line: great place for raw food, bad place for cooked food. The sushi dishes were delicious--super fresh and huge portions, all reasonably priced. But one of my friends ordered the teriyaki salmon and it was fully raw on the inside. The service is very good, to be fair, and the waiter and manager(?) apologized a dozen times and did get an order of salmon kama for free. They also halved the cost of the original meal. That being said, even the salmon kama ended up being a little undercooked. So, yeah, bottom line: get the sushi.

Yelp
I think I've found my new favorite sushi place! I've been to MANY sushi restaurants over the years, and Sushi One is spectacular. The restaurant is meticulously clean, staff is very friendly and helpful, variety is huge, and the food is absolutely stunning! Although there is no parking lot, there is plenty of easy street parking available. The sushi rolls here are unique in that most of them are not loaded with avocado, and are not swimming in heavy sauces. The chefs seem to truly appreciate the ingredients, and know best how to prepare and highlight them. I've had negi hama many places before, and Susi One's is hands-down the best. The crispy and fresh scallion in it was something I don't recall discerning at other places. The same holds true for the hamachi kama and sauce that accompanies it. The baked lobster was amazingly great, too. Not at all greasy or heavy, and amazingly fresh. The presentations are particularly great as well. Beautiful flowers and bull's eye beet (or radish, not sure which) act as adornments and serving holders for wasabi, etc. The dishes and place settings are remarkably nice as well. Each of the rolls I had here had an almost magical depth and complexity of flavor, the likes of which I'd never experienced anywhere else before. The only slight negative is that they don't (or at least didn't) have any low-sodium soy sauce. I cannot wait for my next trip and highly recommend Sushi One.

Yelp
Great fresh tasting sushi. This might be our 10th time visiting whether dining in or to go. Server was friendly and when asked about sake recommendations provided several options. Owners are always on the premise and making the sushi rolls. I like that they have both fancy sushi rolls and more simpler ones at different price ranges.

Yelp
Been before and it has been decent but tonight was disappointing. We ordered the sashimi appetizer, spider roll, shrimp shumai and unagi roll. The tuna sashimi was clearly not fresh and mealy. Really bad. Salmon sashimi was chewy, not sure why ‍ but my boyfriend totally agreed with me on this. Never had chewy salmon sashimi. Maybe it was just a bad cut? The unagi roll was put together hastily and was falling apart. The spider roll was ok but mostly just rice. The worst of all was the shrimp shumai. Would not recommend to anyone. It was just bad. Sauce it came with even worse if you're at all familiar with this should be.

Yelp
good service, nice place. good selection of sushi. the chef special was a great way to try a bunch of different nigiri for a fair price. their rolls were missing sauce and the cuts of fish weren't the best. would try it again, but not our fav sushi spot. Will say the red snapper was really good, next time we'll probably stick with nigiri only and order what we know will be good.

Yelp
My family adores Sushi One. We first came for our son's birthday, and after some jalapeno poppers (do not miss these), a few rolls, and some ramen, we were instant regulars. Any occasion prompts a sheepish "Sushi One?" from the kid, and we're always quick to accept. If we order enough, it comes served on an adorable little wooden boat which is definitely a crowd pleaser. As the years go by we continue to see new sides of the restaurant. We love to sauna, and sharing a roll and some sake is the perfect post-sauna snack. Lately, we're experimenting with a vegan diet, and while I desperately miss the various fish sushis I'd grow accustomed to (oh no, and the jalapeno poppers--this is temporary Adam, so just be cool), we were delighted/relieved to find several refreshing and delicious items in the menu. Neighborhoods need places like Sushi One that offer healthy, delicious food and friendly service at prices that allow us to keep coming back. This is what makes Sushi One a 5 star experience for us. PS: I've held off on telling anyone about this place out of fear that it will be overrun. I've lived in this neighborhood for 20 years, and seen good places get overcrowded once word gets out. I'm taking the risk here because it's been a little slow lately, and I want to give back to a restaurant that's given us so many fine memories. Enjoy, tell your friends...but not all of them, maybe? Edit: just now seeing some bad reviews based on DoorDash delivery... I would recommend these folks give the restaurant another try when they have the opportunity to enjoy their sushi while it is fresh. Fish that's been sitting in a plastic box will look and taste different than what you get at the table. I'm not saying that one shouldn't order sushi delivery, but perhaps consider ordering more durable menu items and adjusting expectations.

Yelp
Idk what that Dun lady is talking about in her review because this place was amazing.. The sushi is super fresh and delicious. The staff is very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. We are glad to have tried this place out

Yelp
Sushi craving on a Saturday Night (any night)? Say no more, let Sushi One handle it. We ordered a Dragon Roll, Sushi Deluxe combo, and Miso Soup through Door Dash. The order took about 45 minutes from the confirmation it was received to delivery. I would say that the rolls are pricy, and from what I saw on the menu so is the ramen/udon. The Sushi Deluxe combo comes with 7 pieces of variety nigri, either a spicy tuna roll (pictures) OR a tempura roll, a miso soup, and a cute lil' flower. I thought the sushi deluxe was the best value. Although pricey, the dragon roll was delicious and each piece was packed with ingredients. Our food tasted fresh and delicious. In terms of packaging, everything was neat and secured. I would definitely order from Sushi One again!

Yelp
This is the worst sushi I've ever had. Everything was wrong and just.. weird. One thing I ordered actually made me laugh when i finally figured out what it was supposed to be. The staff clearly didn't actually want to be there and weren't attentive. They forgot part of our order but after getting what we did get it was for the best. Didn't offer drinks and didn't clear the last persons tea pot off the table when they sat us (or ever). Don't bother with this one. :(

Kristina M.

Yelp
Ordered poke on a Tuesday night and it was *incredible*. But more than that... get the kimchi. It is so good. It goes so good with the sushi and miso soup.. the kimchi is absolutely my favorite. Solid choice all around. Can't go wrong with Sushi One. Get all of the things.

Yelp
Delicious sushi rolls The rolls are big and the sushi is very fresh. great customer service

Yelp
WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?? Excellent quality fish, generous sashimi cuts, friendly and conscientious staff all result in a high end experience with reasonable prices in a convenient North Portland location. Sushi One exceeds expectations you might have for other sushi restaurants you expect to find downtown or the Pearl.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time eating Sushi One's sushi and omg, y'all, it is SO GOOD. First of all, the ordering through Yelp was fast and successful. I was able to walk to Sushi One and get our sushi. Seamless! When I got home and opened the containers, I was amazed by the lovely presentation. Each piece was so delicious. I have never seen hamachi belly nigiri on a sushi menu, so I added it to our order and it was AMAZING. So tender, melt in your mouth, clean flavor. I loved the Denver roll and the Oregon Coast roll as well, although I enjoyed literally everything. My only regret is that I had not visited Sushi One sooner. Thank you very much!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite sushi spots in town but I keep forgetting that I need to write them a review. So here it is! Staffs are very friendly and ready to offer help, I was the only person that dined at the restaurant that night so that's awesome. I had the Chirashi bowl which I highly highly recommend if you love traditional sushi style dish and you can eat a lot. All of the fishes were amazingly fresh, really love the yellowtail and the albacore! There is this really soft and sweet fish that's heavenly good but I do not know the name so that's a pleasant surprise. Portion is huge so one bowl is more than enough for one person. Takoyaki is always good and can't go wrong with it. There's a small parking lot in the back and also there is Lots of Street parking. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Missy B.

Yelp
The staff care about what they serve here and it shows. This place is clean, friendly and has great options. The sushi is just WOW and the ramen is good as well. This is such a fun place to go and or pick up to take home. I have never been disappointed in the 5 years eating here. I recommend the California Roll with real crab!

Yelp
its always a hit or miss when finding sushi restaurants. especially when ordering delivery. based on some doordash/yelp ratings and carefuly scrutiny, i decided to take a shot on sushi one. im big on any kind of toro/belly or fatty fish, so finding places that serve them on their menus can be a challenge at times. luckily, sushi one had yellowtail (hamachi) belly at a fair price. we ordered that, some salmon sashimi, the citrus salmon sashimi fusion, and the volcano roll. (the size of the sashimi pieces were pretty plump!) i requested extra wasabi but they didnt include it :-( but the fact that they didnt skimp on the sashimi sort of made up for it. majority of the avocado in the citrus salmon dish was hard, and unripe which was slightly dissapointing but not the end of the world. all in all, i could see myself ordering from this place again in the future! considering its raw fish though, it would probably be better to dine in if you can.

Nadasia G.

Yelp
Excellent food service it's me and my sons go to spot highly recommended for family night out
google avatar

Ray V.

Yelp
This was our 1st visit since a) the change in ownership, and b) the pandemic that is changing our world. Anyway we were extremely satisfied, the food was great easily fulfilling our hopes, and the staff was pleasant. The prices are still very reasonable. We are so very happy that they're open again and we will be making Sushi One part of our regular rotation of restaurants we visit.
google avatar

Jenna G.

Yelp
They sat down my friend and I despite being busy, which we both appreciate. My friend and I both enjoyed all the plates we ordered, and I recommend that you try the Hawaiian roll. The fish melts like butter on my tongue. My friend recommends the unagi don (pieces of unagi served over a bowl of rice) and the gyoza.
google avatar

Tiva S.

Yelp
Either update your phone number so we can call in, or fix your phone. Also when I went into eat it took over 30minutes to get our appetizers & another 30minutes for 3 rolls. Never coming here again. Don't recommend the wait for "decent" sushi that you can get anywhere else.

Miya S.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi we have ever had!! We eat a lot of sushi and hands down it was amazing and great service even when busy!

Hastings M.

Yelp
This was an solid place for food, just very unorganized. Water was never refilled. We had to get up and ask for things like napkins. Some food was forgotten and came out over the span of half an hour+ so people ended up having to eat without everyone else having their food. Actually food was pretty good, everyone was happy with it once received. Probably wouldn't go back just because of the service, but the food is solid. If you're considering this place I'd say it's worth a shot to visit, we could have just been in on a bad night.
google avatar

Jamie H.

Yelp
I come here all the time but this time I decided to do takeout. I placed the order over the phone and was told 35-45 min. Got there about 40min later, the guy said it would be a 5-10min wait and 20min later looks over at me and goes "ohhhhh noooo I forgot to bring out your order my bad" while he stood around talking to the cooks and had me waiting 20min while my food sat on the counter. I also order the salmon skin salad every single time, it comes with a spicy type of dressing. I got a nasty, foul, rotten, chunky yellow dressing instead so to top it off I had to pay for a disgusting, inedible salad. Use to come here every week but don't think I'll ever be back
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
We have eaten sushi from a lot of places from portland to Savanna Georgia this is the best sushi we have eaten in along time. I gave this a 5 star for the reason this by far is really good sushi. I feel it is fresh the rice is perfect. Good job all
google avatar

Derek I.

Yelp
Thought i had written a review...somehow it disappeared.... Great sushi at reasonable prices! The fish is fresh and the rolls are filling. This is the best local mom and pop sushi spot we've found since moving from So Cal. It's been hard to find places that serve real sushi, so finding this gem was very welcome.
google avatar

Wendy S.

Yelp
This place has gone through several owners. I tried it years ago and never went back. After reading the reviews with the new owners we decided to go. It was a Thursday night and it was bustling ! The service is very friendly and the food was fabulous. We shared the Gaelic edamame and that alone would be something to go back for. I have the Denver roll and it was perfect. The hamachi sashimi was a little thick cut but fresh and generous. Prices are reasonable as well. I k ow for sure we'll be back. So excited to have a good sushi spot in my hood.

Julie R.

Yelp
Update January 2020: So glad to have Sushi One open again! Got some takeout last night and was really impressed so changing my rating to a 5. I loved everything we got (Sunrise roll, Futomaki, shrimp tempura roll, and veggie gyoza). Staff were friendly and the building has been remodeled. The same Yelp page is continuing after the change in owners and menu so be sure to look at the website or more recent menu pics. Would love to see you allow takeout ordering through Yelp in addition to the delivery option!

Young H.

Yelp
Located next to a fairly large sized convenience store, but street parking and parking behind the building. It's small but all indoor dining tables were taken except 1 and I was 1 of 4 people waiting to pick up. The food was ready when the restaurant said it would be. Got home and everything that we ordered was there. We ordered 3 rolls and the sushi/sashimi combo platter. All were very good. I dont give a lot of credit to this place or any place for that matter when it comes to making a good roll. I figure, douse the roll with cream cheese, something sweet, maybe something deep fried, and a little fresh fish...you're good to go. Sushi One was no exception; it's rolls were good but like I just wrote, I'm not going to give you 4 stars for good rolls. Surprisingly the sushi/sashimi combo platter was memorable. Fish tasted fresh. The fish pieces were generously cut. So if you want good rolls, surprisingly good sushi/sashimi, and to pick up the food when the restaurant says it's going to be ready, then check out this 'hole in the wall.'
google avatar

Britney H.

Yelp
Sushi One is the best sushi place in the area. I love that they are close to work and home and provide tasty reasonably priced sushi. They have great spicy tuna and their spicy scallops are done right! All the rolls I have tried have been great. Whenever I have a sushi craving and need a quick fix I head over to Sushi One and satisfy my sushi need.
google avatar

Temari A.

Yelp
I work close by to this location. I thought, why not try it! So I headed over. The sitting area is large enough. When I arrived, there was only one other person in the seating area. I ordered three orders. Let me first say, ordering two items brought me into the $$ zone. I didn't order anything too insane, seared salmon and unagi. Don't come here if you have a price limit or are trying to save money. The food is overpriced compared to sushi go round prices. However, fairly average for fine dining establishments. I was not impressed at all with the food. It was decent at best. The presentation was nice, but that's really what you are paying for. I included a photo, they only brought out two of my three orders because my waitress forgot I ordered two seared salmon. It's decent, but I would probably not return.
google avatar

kasi R.

Yelp
This place was ok. I'll need to try once more but I guess I'll try it when things get back to normal. Sushi rice is a big deal to me. I absolutely didn't like the rice. I actually pulled all the insides out of the roll. Also if you don't care for mayonnaise you might not like the rolls. Next time I'll have to order without mayo on everything. Even If you don't think it'll come with mayo, it will.
google avatar

Yelp
Was looking for sushi near our hotel and noticed this place in YELP. There was a banner hanging in the front of the restaurant stating, grand opening. So we wandered in about 6:00 p.m. for dinner. The place was full of young people and families, good sign. We ordered both from the sushi menu and dinner menu and were very pleased with our food. The restaurant uses a laminated sushi menu and you use a dry erase pen to mark your sushi order. What a great idea! The food came out quickly and we ate every bite. New restaurant, good food.
google avatar

Liz A.

Yelp
They're back! I was so bummed when they closed for a bit, but noticed their new store front a couple weeks ago and finally stopped in. Super chill neighborhood sushi joint with a solid sake selection. Take your family here for unpretentious food and try the takoyaki!
google avatar

Rick W.

Yelp
Excellent sushi, sashimi, poke, octopus balls and a few other things we ordered. I've wish they had some domestic craft beer choices. Service was very prompt and friendly. We'll go back.
google avatar

K W.

Yelp
This sushi was super delicious. But we had it delivered through Postmates and it wasn't at all clear that the nigiri was going to be only one piece. The price was higher than it was on Grubhub when we looked later and more expensive than at the restaurant itself. One piece of salmon nigiri was almost $6!!! Hard to enjoy the food when you feel ripped off.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
The employees were really rude was super condescending. They messed up my order twice as well. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Terrible service!
google avatar

Samantha R.

Yelp
We're so happy that Sushi One is back open! It's for sure our favorite sushi place in N Portland. Never had a bad experience here, the food is always fresh and delicious, although we mainly order veggie dishes so I can't speak to much of the fish menu. Even before the management change we've always felt like this is the highest quality and best deal for sushi around. We got three 8pc, one 5pc, an appetizer, and two teas and paid around $55 including 20% tip. This place is so amazing, give it a try!
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
I've eaten here 3 times. One time dining in and twice for pickup. I got the rock and roll with the curry katsu for pickup. They were very attentive on their cleanliness and no contact pick up. But when I ordered the katsu, the menu online said it came with miso soup and veggies. No miso soup or veggies :( When I opened up the curry sauce to pour over this very good looking katsu it was my biggest regret of the week. That curry sauce was not too tasty . I ruined the katsu with it. The rock and roll was very tasty. I would still get food from here again, just not the curry katsu.

Yelp
Updated review: I saw that there was a change in ownership (we have a very bad experience last summer) so I ordered some takeout. The prices are very good and the sushi was fantastic! We will definitely be coming back here for our neighborhood sushi spot!
google avatar

Mathew K.

Yelp
Perfect local sushi spot. We came here after hearing they were under new management and had a great meal. Fish is fresh and flavorful, service is friendly and fast. There's a nice variety of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. Everything I want in a neighborhood sushi joint. If you're skeptical and have been before (under old management), give it another shot.
google avatar

Monica C.

Yelp
Really solid sushi. So happy that this is our neighborhood sushi place! The decor is so cute too. When it's safe to eat inside again, this will be a great date spot for us.

Yelp
I am beyond thrilled that Sushi One replaced the old sushi place in that location. The sushi chefs at Sushi One are the best in town, the servers are kind and professional, and the to-go orders are put together nicely. Some people may not like that the rolls are not gargantuan in size, but I prefer sushi that I can eat in one bite, so I have no complaints about that. All in all it's my favorite sushi spot in North Portland, and I think it is up there with best in the city.

Yelp
Typical American sushi joint. Food and rolls are very typical. Flavors and portions are spot on. The waitstaff were friendly and accommodating. Restaurant was very clean. I really didn't like how sloooow everything was. Even the miso soup took 30 mins to come out. We ordered lunch specials. We waited sooo looong for our food--Lunch is supposed to be quick! We were only 1 of 2 tables, so it's not like they were super busy and hustling... Definitely not a place to go if you're looking to get in and out in 30 mins. And not a place if you have an impatient kid.
