Gimmick, noun, a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business.
Please don't get me wrong, a gimmick is not necessarily a bad thing period however, we cannot deny that conveyor belt sushi is a gimmick true and true. It's just plain fun! All the little plates rolling around on the conveyor, and if you want something specific, you place an order on an iPad, and it arrives by a train above the general conveyor.
Where it comes to Sushi Plus Rotary Sushi Bar, there is a lot more to love than just the novelty and awesomeness of conveyor belt sushi. First, the quality is 100% there. The fish seems to be of high quality, and the rolls do not skimp on protein or ingredients. The rice also appears to be top notch. Second, they have a very wide variety from your simple California roll and eel roll, all the way to a roll that somehow integrates Hot Cheetos!
Because there are often four pieces on a plate, I think the trick is to come with three friends so that you're all able to try more items. It is very easy to make the mistake of getting a little bit too much and then you're either forced to better stuff it down when you're already full. Trust me on this: if you're here alone, go slow. It is better if you do not ask me how I know.
I also want to give credit to their service staff. While to a large degree it is self-serve (as you are grabbing place from the conveyor), when you need assistance the service has been kind and attentive.
Now, I'm going to be honest with you all: I was initially going to rate this place four stars. The reason being their prices seem to be a little bit on the higher end. Then I did some thinking: and I realized that with the sushi coming 4 to a plate, two plates is effectively a serving in a non-conveyor belt restaurant (or dare I say, a box at the supermarket). Thinking through that lens, the prices are in line with what I would consider competitive, especially given the quality.
Finally, the ambiance is modern, and the restaurant is very clean. Some of the 3D wall art reminds me of things I saw in the Museum of Illusions. Awesome, and will mess with your mind a little bit if you spend too long looking at them.
There are times when what is called for is a regular sit down restaurant where one orders 2 plates of sushi, devours the 16 rolls, and calls it a day. Other times, when the mood strikes, grabbing different things off of a conveyor belt as they present themselves to you hits just the right spot. With that, I am 100% a raving fan of Sushi Plus Rotary Sushi Bar.
