We stopped in here not realizing Felton even had a sushi place. It’s tucked in the plaza corner with a main anchor grocery store. The menu was stacked full of options. The specialty rolls were hard to choose because of a wide variety; see pics for our choices. (Lion Roll and calamari maki.) Sapporo beer is paired best 🤤 and the ice cream dish was almost too much for two people, but - we totally polished off the green tea version nicely. Atmosphere was relaxing. Service was exceptional and quite attentive.

Great hidden secret that is worth the discovery! The owners are very sweet, quick, and helpful. The place is always clean and service speedy. We love to hit the lunch special on Bento boxes..what an amazing deal!! The environment is entertaining with the fish aquariums and likeable decor. One of our favorite places!

Update: three years later, and we're still going to Sushi San regularly. The three photos are from today: Donut Roll, Sashimi Donburi, and a combo (I forget which one). I was dragged in here and really didn't expect much, and was pleasantly surprised! Despite its location in a quiet corner of a shopping center, Sushi San was awesome! They have some unusual items, like the hamachi kama and age dashi tofu (deep-fried tofu), the pickles are awesome, and the presentation is beautiful. Next time I'll try more of their appetizers. My friends got sushi rolls, which also looked pretty good. But you could make a meal out of the appetizers and get some sake and be happy.

Great, unique rolls. Fresh fish. They are understaffed so service was a little slow but the staff was lovely. Great experience.

I’m Japanese traveling around Cali and I had the best sushi rolls here 😋 Alaska roll they made is my favorite sushi roll now ! Hawaii roll was good too! I highly recommend it!

Google
Great little Sushi venue! I ordered all nigiri. All perfect. Salmon, Yellow Tail, and Ikura w/ Quail egg. Small Sake selection but better prices than what I’ve paid at other places. The grass was edible. Zoom in. You’ll see that it’s cucumber. Also, see the crack in the Sake shot glass? Look it up in Japanese culture. It’s a good thing. Actually I don’t think they noticed until I said something. If you’re in Felton, or even the surrounding towns, why would you not come here. Just go!

I love this place. We've been getting takeout for over a year and finally dined in for Valentine's Day. The vegetable maki keep me healthy and coming back, the teriyaki salmon is hearty and tender, and the nabeyaki udon has brought me relief from many a long hard day. Sushi-san Ichiban!

The food is great. The atmosphere is relaxing. And on a good night, it's quiet.

Yelp
To be clear this is a review for the take-out service offered by Sushi San... The Katana is considered by some to be the perfect blade... but if wielded by a blind person it becomes useless. I offer this as perspective for experiences at Sushi San. The food at Sushi San is phenomenal (the Katana) the service is horrendous (the blind person wielding the Katana). This is the conclusion of two visits to this business (gotta be fair... give them a chance). Visit 1: My wife orders sushi togo and is told 30 minute pickup. She drives 30 min (we live north of Boulder Creek) and arrives and the sushi is not ready - she is told another 30 minutes. She waits another 30 minutes and after an hour total she asks about the order and is told "Oh I forgot to put in the order" and she is told she can wait another 30 minutes (please google 'definition of insanity' at this point). My wife cannot wait longer and leaves and is told "we owe you an order of sushi". Visit 2; Sushi San opens at 5pm and my wife calls in an order at 5:05. She is told the order will be ready in 45 minutes. I drive the 30 minutes to town and do some shopping and then go to pickup order. I am told it is not ready and I should come back in 45 minutes. 45 minutes later I come back and the sushi is still not ready. I sit and wait and after a total of 2 hours the sushi arrives. The owner gives me the order and says "Wow that is lot of sushi. Too much for 2 people" my reaction is surprise and I walk out... then think a moment and walk back in... I call to the owner and ask to speak to her. I then tell her this (in a calm voice). "I have managed customer support groups for 30 years and I advise that if you want to keep a customer you do not insult them after giving very bad service. Saying the amount of food ordered is too much for two people is not your business and offering insult and implying gluttony after giving horrible service will not keep a customer loyal. I offer this as advice for the next customer because today you have lost a customer." I cannot recommend Sushi San but I do advise that if you are in the mood for Great sushi AND Great service AND you live in SLV just drive the extra 10 minutes to Scotts Valley and goto Rumble fish or Otoro...both offer excellent food and excellent service ( we just went to dinner at Otoro last night for my wife's birthday).

Yelp
We stumbled upon this hidden gem of a sushi spot in Felton, and we're so glad we did because they truly exceeded our expectations. Despite being in a not so busy part of town, this place deserves way more recognition for the quality of their food and service. We visited for the first time after reading some positive reviews and had a wonderful experience--especially as a family with a baby and toddler in tow. Our kids loved their California rolls and kappamaki, which were fresh and perfectly prepared. The aquariums were also a hit for the little ones to enjoy and the kids menu with color crayons to keep em busy. We loved the Bonnie Doon roll and the Crunchy Flying Tiger roll which was a recommendation from our lovely waitress. Both rolls were bursting with flavor--savory, fresh, and satisfying. The staff was incredibly attentive and kind, going out of their way to make us feel welcome and valued. If you're looking for amazing sushi in a warm and inviting atmosphere, don't pass this place up. It's absolutely worth the visit. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Another brilliant experience at Sushi San! I grabbed the chef's assorted sashimi dish, a friend of mine chose the salmon kama and another friend wanted a donut roll. Lights out perfection.

Yelp
This is a unique place to get sushi but it is good. Staff is friendly and the atmosphere is laid-back. They have some very unique names/rols. The 1 thing you have to try is the hot jalapeños, it is kinda like a sushi jalapeño poper!!

Ryan H.

Yelp
Best sushi restaurant! Excellent food, great staff, beautiful fish tanks, and comfortable dining.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem in Felton, great customer service and opened on Independence Day to serve customers from near and afar. Good portion and very reasonable price.

Yelp
5 stars & this place really earned it. Situated at the end of a not very busy strip mall, walking in I was surprised at how cute and thoughtful it was decorated. The woven black & tan baskets near the ceiling caught my eye as well as the open containers that held chopsticks near the cash register. We came about 7pm and I was expecting a long wait but we sat within minutes. The 5 of us hungry ladies sat down and were waited on the most patient food server ever. I don't recall her name, but I just kept thinking how young she looked. I was delighted to see the rolls were not your standard rolls. Some had mango in it, some had macadamia nuts in it & were priced generally between $7 and $15. I was looking at the hamachi kama but decided on getting my usual, the salmon skin maki. Friends said it tasted like chicharon (fried pork skin). I've had better but my two friends loved it. I also ordered the Tan Tan roll, which I expected to be a little different. It was way too spicy for me. Luckily my 2 other friends loved it and helped eat it. What I did super love was the Becca roll. It was so so so good and would get it again in a heartbeat. Sister had a roll with mango in it. I can't recall name, but although it was good I expected spectacular. The mussels appetizer topped with a mayo, slightly spicy and with a soy-ish sauce and garnished with daikon and lemon was so good we ordered a second round. Other items we got were the chicken katsu, it wasn't what friend expected, it didnt even have a real looking breading on it which is what we are used to. Friend ended up giving it away. Other friend got the Lomi salad. It was big and she really liked it. What made up for the few mishaps was the beyond amazing service. Waitstaff was incredibly patient with us middle aged ladies many requests. The decor, in particular the 4 fish tanks with exotic fish, kept us entertained, curious, and Googling the fish names and prices. So glad we came across this shiny gem in Felton. I would come back for the mussels, Becca roll, and try the other unique rolls that have macadamia nuts in it and to sit in that very helpful servers section again.

Yelp
Wonderful fresh sushi. We live in Scotts Valley but drive here for the quality and selection. I've done take out and eat in and both are always spot on. Lots of variety and delicious. Some favorites are the salmon skin roll, spicy scallop, the bento boxes are a super deal. My kids usually split one with enough for the parents to snack on too. Very sweet and attentive servers as well. A gem in Felton!

Trinity C.

Yelp
A hidden gem in Felton! The ambience is super cool and the service is great! The portion sizes are also amazing for the price! I ordered the chicken ramen and it was delicious! It was $14 and honestly big enough for two people to share. My only complaint is that the chicken was a little dry. I would probably order it with a different protein option next time. Other than ramen, they have a variety of sushi rolls and a whole vegetarian roll menu as well. Perfect place to bring a big group of people!

Miriam A.

Yelp
Amazing sushi at a great price! Try their combo tempura for starters, best I ever had. Service is great, too -- attentive but not bothersome.

Boris S.

Yelp
great family friendly restaurant with aquariums with fish that keep my kids busy. good is great and service is nice.

Christine J.

Yelp
I had a great time eating here with my boyfriend. The bento box dinner is a lot of food for the price. Will definitely be returning.

Terry L.

Yelp
Who knew you could great Sushi in the San Lorenzo Valley? Great menu, including vegan rolls. Classic little Mom and Pop place, staff are great, sometimes the wait can be long, but good things come to those who wait! A really nice relaxed place to have dinner.

Emily W.

Yelp
Great fresh fish and wonderful service - the owners are darling people. Great Felton restaurant!

Eith P.

Yelp
Have eaten here SO many times, always delicious. I recommend trying a lot of rolls, they are all sooo great to share!

Eric R.

Yelp
Meh. Overpriced, skimpy cuts of sashimi. No soup on a $26 sashimi platter?! No bueno. Waitress was not very nice and had an attitude when I inquired about some soup. Never checked on me and didn't seem to care. Never coming back. Otoro is way better....$45 for sushi and still hungry.....nope, never again.

Trav E.

Yelp
The food here is sooooo good but the last two times we've come in the wait for the food has been too long. For a family of four, the first food came after an hour and ten minutes and then it was in intervals of 15 min even though we all ordered together. We all had to eat our meals separately which wasn't great. While I am very sympathetic that they are short staffed, I would not seat the whole restaurant so the food can come quicker.

Eagle Eye C.

Yelp
So much cleaner than Mama Mia's. My husband and child enjoyed their vegan sushi. Two stars for their enjoyment. My order of teriyaki chicken was not pleasant. The poultry used not exactly grade A. Dark meat only, served pink, and drowning in some sugary syrup made this dish inedible. Not worth the price. The hostess was very kind and seated us promptly. Audrey, I think? She is a very good representative of your restaurant. Know part of my family likes your food and will be back. I won't. Sorry.

Megan C.

Yelp
I love Sushi San. My husband and I go here for dates and special occasions. I love the decor - live plants and fish tanks to watch when conversation ebbs. The sushi tastes quality- served over ice and jicama. I'm addicted to their nabeyaki udon in winter. And the owner June is just the sweetest. We're lucky to have this place in Felton!

Jessica G.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! I didn't expect that the food would be this good in tiny little Felton! The service was great, the food came out quickly, and it has a pleasing aesthetic. Definitely check them out! In truth, it took me way too long to finally try them out.

kasi R.

Yelp
I have eaten here many times over the years. The fish is always delicious. The saki tasty. The last two times (after Covid) the service is off. I see poor management of time with the servers. I saw the whole service staff at the window waiting for food. That's a terrible way of managing your time. My water sat empty for 30 minutes. No soup. No salad. No refills. We could have drank another saki but nobody came to check on us. Not one server even looked in our direction! You can't abandon your front house just because food isn't coming out. Bring water, reassure your customers food is coming! Up sale! We could have bought another saki! But there was no service! Train Your Front house! Don't leave your local customers stranded with no water! At least when the food finally came it was awesome!

Jenn C.

Yelp
I like the vibe here. Local feel, nice fish tanks, high chairs available, friendly service. We got a sushi combo, and enjoyed a spicy tuna roll, an unagi roll, and another roll with maguro. We also ordered an udon with beef. The udon was nice in the recent cooler weather, but the broth was a bit on the sweet side. We also ordered a couple bottles of Nigori. Overall, a good dining experience.

Sean S.

Yelp
They use to be 5 stars for me. I still like the quality and the selection of sushi. But unfortunately due to repeatedly bad service experiences, dropping it by 2 stars. Last time I dined in the server was pretty slow, and I know they're low staffed, but it wasn't a busy night. He just wasn't attentive. My main issue is pick up orders though. They've struggled with staffing ever since the beginning of covid. That was 4 years ago. Even now, you can expect atleast a 1 hour wait for a phone in order, regardless of how big it is. I ordered just for myself tonight and it was an hour and 15 min. They had said an hour and I waited there 15 min extra. I ordered two simple rolls, nigiri and a miso soup. They offered to walk it out to my car but didn't include any soy sauce, which I discovered later. If you order by phone they probably won't pick up. Best way is to text your order but downside with that is you can't ask questions and it can take a bit. In the future I'll come back for dine in, I think I'm done with pick up orders. They should just hire a hostess for the front who can answer the phone. And maybe another sushi chef. I was an avid super supportive customer. Now, if I'm coming home from work in town I'll order from Toya Sushi or someone else faster. If you live in the SC mountains this is still your best, and really only bet for sushi. Better than Otoro in SV by a lot. Hopefully they can hire more good help someday.

Tracey Z.

Yelp
Staff is super friendly and fish always seems to be great quality. They have a lovely selection of rolls. Our only downside is the sensor doorbell when you walk into the restaurant. It will go on constantly if someone is waiting for take out or a table and standing in the doorway. If you can ignore the doorbell sound, I highly recommend! Haha

Sky H.

Yelp
Fantastic! Excellent Quality sushi. Proud to recommend this family owned Sushi restaurant to anyone. Creative and delicious rolls at reasonable prices.

Bridget L.

Yelp
We had the best sushi rolls, and a soup, to go. Traveled here for the night and found this delicious place because I got a nail in my tire while driving from the Bay Area. The owner and her daughter were so sweet and helped by giving their help and offered a few ideas based on her asking us questions of the foods we do like. These are the rolls we ordered and totally enjoyed!!! So impressed and wish we lived closer! Golden Fire Roll Crunch Flying Tiger And Spicy Tuna Roll Grateful they were open today!!! Thank you for making such delicious quality food! Five stars!!!!!!

Jonathan J.

Yelp
We discoved this place one night when the power went out. We love Sushi and have our favorite places to go. This is now one of them and just down the road! The food is great, the service is great and the prices are spot on with others of our favorite places to eat.

Katherine T.

Yelp
Sushi San far exceeded my expectations for a sushi restaurant for Felton! The rolls were super creative and delicious. The inside was clean and they have comfortable seating . The staff was so friendly and accommodating. I went twice within a couple of weeks and the second time I brought a couple of the kids along and they were so friendly with the kids, they even brought the toddler some rice and cubed up tofu to keep the little guy happy. My favorite roll was the Basil roll, also excellent rolls were the ultimate mango and the special tempura roll. 10/10 recommend this place !

Alex C.

Yelp
This is very shocking for a 5 star reviewed restaurant, The waitress had attitude and the wait for food was extremely beyond long like 45 minutes, unacceptable with no check up or refils, when the food came it just was plain out not attractive seems like old ingredient's were used, - what was really shocking was the couple got there food first before us and we were seated first! Hopefully this was not a ethnic issue. Be cautious.

D L.

Yelp
We've been eating here for a few years now. The food is good and most of the time the service is fairly good. Today 7pm (they closed at 8pm) several seats available inside, we're still told there's a one hour wait??? ... blah blah blah will be the excuses (and I guarantee they'll toss in COVID). Well you lost two long term customers. We no longer give our hard earned money to COVID-stupid business. We will never set foot in this place again!

Kate L.

Yelp
Wonderful all around service and so delicious!! Have dined in and it was great, another time I ordered another to go and the hamachi nigiri was fresh and wonderfully prepared. I came in on a Monday night last night and they were so very busy but they prepared my to go order in only 20 minutes! My son and I enjoyed being there just ordering take out as their beautiful aquarium in the front of the restaurant was so nice to watch these super amazing fish swimming about. You can really tell that they care at this restaurant when you're greeted so nicely and they take your order and let you know the pricing, the pricing was very reasonable for what I got and the quality of the fresh fish! Oh, and you won't get any surprise tacked on 20% gratuity for take away AND they won't inflate the prices of your order like another restaurant in Santa Cruz. Also to see such a clean and well maintained aquarium with happy healthy fish swimming around proves that they do take care and are thoughtful in every way. I only wish they could stay open later than 8:pm I will be back again soon. We were so happy to come here.. it's worth the drive up the mountain!

Delia C.

Yelp
Such a Beautiful Japanese food restaurant hidden in the valley. Very clean amazing fish tanks throughout the restaurant. The staff is very attentive. The food is fresh & excellent and presented beautifully. Excellent salmon belly, Deliciously created specialty rolls. Basil roll is just amazing and delicious. Family owned business so much attention to detail. Their Hamachi Kama dinner is to die for as is everything you order. Their miso soup is the best I have had, as is the Shrimp & vegetable tempura. The best part of it all it's local and so reasonably priced. Try for yourself you will not be disappointed. Joonie and her family will provide you with a great sushi experience. Oh you must try the fried bananas and coconut ice cream for desert So good...

Michael R.

Yelp
A consistantly good experience. A wide variety of fresh, tasty sushi, served by friendly, smiling people.

Rob J.

Yelp
This has become our Friday night ritual. The sushi is fresh and delicious, and the staff is amazing. This seems weird to point out but they cut a triangle into the top of the carry out box for veggie tempura. This allows steam to escape and keeps the tempura crisp as you travel home. Stopped by tonight and they are now offering indoor seating. Definitely worth your time.

B. D.

Yelp
Excited to see a sushi restaurant but it was very disappointing... Very slow service! Tempura was awful...there was a ton of fried coating which made it taste like fried bread...that's all. Go a little farther to otoros, or one of the many restaurants in Santa Cruz

Michelle L.

Yelp
The Tori Udon is fantastic! Perfect take out dinner on a cold, rainy day.

Khalid S.

Yelp
Fish quality was pretty good. I do wish they cut their nigiri a little thinner. Tekka maki was great. I'd stick with more maki and specialty rolls than the nigiri. The pot of green tea was a must. Only $3 and the genma flavor was great. High marks for sustainability. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.

Mister A.

Yelp
Still my favorite sushi. Love the owner, good food and cold beer.

Scotty D.

Yelp
Great Sushi, good price and excellent service. Definitely recommend. Try the soups and the chefs will make you custom rolls and sashimi

crystal s.

Yelp
Hidden gem! This sushi spot is excellent! Great service, good atmosphere and delicious fresh sushi! Definitely will be back

C A.

Yelp
I called in an order to go and they informed me that it would be ready within in the hour because they were short staffed. I said that's fine. So after the hour was up, I went into the restaurant expecting to get my order after I paid for it. I sat for 5 minutes thinking they were going to the back to get my order. After sitting there for another 10 minutes, I asked the first waiter when I would receive the order. They said "Oh the salmon is taking a little longer." So I said oh ok. Hopefully it should be done soon. I waited the 15 minutes more thinking I would have my order by then. I asked the second waiter staff and I heard the same thing. "Oh the salmon is taking a while longer." After a total of 30 minutes of waiting, I asked the 3rd Staff waiter for my money back because it was taking too long. Lo and behold, five minutes later I got my order and they gave me a couple orders of miso soup to compensate for the long wait which I think wasn't enough.

Blake H.

Yelp
Best sushi in the santa cruz mountains! My favorite will always be the Guide Roll.

Victor C.

Yelp
The best sushi! Great service too, and very relax ambiance! My wife and I have been going to that place since we start dating and the quality hasn't change a bit,

Lia T.

Yelp
Super delicious, highly recommended!! The ingredients are very fresh. I've become a regular.

Jayson K.

Yelp
Great local Felton restaurant! Good sushi and also other dishes as well. It's definitely worth it to try their udon and maki roles. We usually, at least during COVID, order takeout and our orders are always ready for pick up quickly. Also, the owner is very friendly as well.

Kelsey H.

Yelp
The best kept secret of the Santa Cruz Mountains!! Sushi San has a great menu, good prices, and a really considerate staff. I get sushi very frequently (a self-admitted coping mechanism for stressful days) and I have tried just about every sushi spot in a 10 mile radius of my house in Santa Cruz. I tried Sushi San for the first time before going to a movie in Scotts Valley and was floored by the food. I don't usually order veggie rolls, but this place has the BEST ones. I highly recommend the Guide Roll and the Yam Yam Roll. You will not regret it. And they have fresh wasabi! Also, a note during COVID times, Sushi San has a really great takeout procedure that is very mindful of possible contamination through pens/cards etc. They wipe down cards and have new pens for each client. I'm really excited for them to reopen to enjoy their lovely restaurant again, but until then, content with takeout!

Stella P.

Yelp
Super nice staff, great ambiance, and everything is always amazing. They have the best miso soup in SC county by far. Highly recomend.

Sean S.

Yelp
Awesome sushi! I've lived in Felton since 2019 and this has become one of my all time favorite sushi spots. The fish is fresh, great selection and fair prices. Staff is friendly. The downside would be long wait times for phone in orders sometimes. And once they actually stopped taking orders for the night so I couldnt make an order. But that's a testament to their popularity and also I know they had struggled with getting enough staff during Covid. Dining inside is a good option now and the interior is nice.

Shekahna D.

Yelp
The food is great EXCELLENT customer service! Prices are fare and honest. NO Sushi establishment locally can BEAT Sushi San with the service, quality and price! Will be returning to this establishment OFTEN!
