Sushi-san - Review - 12 South - Nashville - The Infatuation

"Sushi-san opens its first location outside of Chicago in 12 South. The menu features sashimi sets and makis with Balfego bluefin tuna from Spain, along with binchotan-roasted meats, a strong 65-bottle list of Japanese whiskies, and blast-chilled Asahi on draft. Expect a hip-hop-heavy soundtrack to set the mood, and a walk-up soft serve window for a grab-and-go snack or dessert." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Came here with high hopes for the sushi, and while it wasn’t bad… it was definitely pretty mediocre. The rolls were okay, but nothing really stood out or made me go “wow.” If you’re coming strictly for top-tier sushi, this might not be the place that blows you away. HOWEVER — the drinks and the vibes?? Absolutely top tier. The cocktails were amazing, well-balanced, and honestly the highlight of the night. Will definitely try again and give them a second chance. This feels more like a spot you go to for a chill night out rather than a sushi-focused dining experience. I’d totally come back for drinks with friends, or a night where vibes matter more than food. Our waiter was amazing, compared to the very dull welcoming of the hosts . They have to go option but it is to the side where you also can get ice cream .

This place deserves a 20/10! The food, staff, whole all around experience has been top notch. My husband Stan Davis and I once we tried it shortly after it opened, we have been back at least twice a week! Shout out to all the staff especially the manager Kevin, Mindy at the front, and all the servers especially Tony and Ernesto! We love Sushi San.

I was a bit hesitant to go to Sushi San because it just opened up in Nashville about 2 months ago and I normally wait to go check out new restaurants. We made reservations on a weeknight and it was packed. Started off with cocktails and we really enjoyed it. You have to get the soba noodles and Waygu crispy rice. We got yellow tail, a few different rolls, nuggets, tacos, the duck bowl. We even went and got ice cream next door and that was great. I've been a couple times now, it's my new favorite spot and service has been great every time.

I’ve lived here for 5 years and this place just became the best Asian spot in all of Nashville. The service and the people were so nice throughout the whole meal! The staff was so knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable with the menu….decor great…blah blah blah….what about THE FOOD?! Yea I can just say everything I had was delish, was perfect, was another hyperbole of greatness….the truth was that everything we did eat became my favorite dish. I legit said “I have no idea which is my favorite” Dumplings… Omg Crispy tuna…so fresh Eggplant tempura….what?! YES! Sushi….am I in Japan? The skirt steak…HOW?! *all genuine reactions* Then wrap all this up in an amazing value that was legit more affordable than most Nashville sushi restaurants.

Everyone was so kind. This was our first time and the food was so so good. The brownie for dessert was my favorite but the butter cake was absolutely delicious. Sushi was top notch and beef rice dish was awesome. Will be back!

We first heard about this spot a few months ago after visiting La La Land Cafe and had it bookmarked ever since. When we saw their grand opening pop up on Instagram, we knew it was time—so we headed over for a Saturday lunch. We arrived around 1:30 pm just as things were starting to buzz. Fortunately, we were seated right away, and by 2 pm the place was completely packed. The interior was cozy yet spacious, with a relaxed, welcoming vibe that we immediately enjoyed. Here’s what we ordered: Asahi Cold Draft Crisp, icy, light, and incredibly refreshing. Exactly my kind of beer. Sake Bomb with Asahi Draft The yuzu sake really made this—bright, citrusy, refreshing, and smooth with a little kick. We loved it. Bluefin Chili Ponzu Sashimi A server recommendation and an absolute standout. Beautifully presented, with fresh, tender bluefin that melted in our mouths. The chili sauce added heat and texture, the watermelon brought a touch of sweetness, and the scallions tied everything together with a subtle aromatic note. Complex, balanced, and brilliantly executed. Wagyu Tartare Crispy Rice (3 pcs) Perfect bite-sized pieces. The rice was crispy and lightly charred, adding great texture, while the Wagyu was rich, well-seasoned, and buttery. The perilla leaves elevated the dish with a lovely aromatic finish. A favorite for sure. Torched Salmon Nigiri (2 pcs) Juicy, tender salmon with just the right amount of char. The yuzu soy sauce added a savory citrus boost that complemented the fish beautifully. BBQ Beef Lettuce Wraps So many great elements working together. The BBQ beef was juicy, tender, and deeply savory. The miso sambal brought a subtle heat, while the cilantro and winter melon noodles balanced everything out. Wrapped in crisp lettuce, each bite was fresh, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. Overall, we had a fantastic lunch and genuinely loved everything we ordered. Our server was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, which made the experience even better. We’ll definitely be back to try their maki, hand rolls, and more nigiri—can’t wait to return.

Yum 😮‍🔥 Sushi‑San is an absolute must when you’re in Nashville. Went this weekend with the bestie and the vibes were immaculate—the lighting & music alone was a whole mood. Started with drinks: - Jungle Bird cocktail — light, balanced, and easy to sip. Also had a cute paper crane atop - Paperbag mocktail — crisp, refreshing Food (aka the real star) - Crispy rice with tuna tartare - Matcha octopus - Spicy scallop maki - Tako taco (spicy octopus, avocado, crispy nori shell—obsessed) - Hand rolls (3-pack): I chose the umami scallop, negi hamachi, toro oshinko — all tasted insanely fresh -BBQ beef lettuce wraps .. 🤤 just look..need I say more? - Two sizzling rice bowls: Peking duck + beef n’ bop - Dessert: sticky miso caramel cake (don’t skip this! Uff) Pricing wasn’t over the top expensive - made sense, service was fast and on point, and our waitress Abigail was the best—so sweet, super knowledgeable, and her recommendations did not miss. 10/10 experience, already planning the next visit 🍣✨ I can’t recommend this place enough.

Everything we had was delicious! Ponzu yellowtail sashimi tastes clean and fresh. My favorite dish was the peking duck sizzling rice. Eggplant tempura is a must try. The miso butter cake was my favorite dessert. With the cold ice cream on top with the warm cake= heaven. If you’re a chocolate fan, the mochi fudge brownie is amazing also! Drinks are tasty. I had the margarita which comes in a takeout box! and the boots with the fur. YUM~ Can’t wait to be back to try more Oh and the service is great!
