Sushi Taka

"Since 2016, this upmarket sushi-ya in a prestigious hotel has been prized for their authentic sushi made with the freshest and most seasonal fish flown in from Japan. The Japanese chef is specific about every detail, including the sushi rice from a town in Niigata. To experience his culinary vision in full glory, opt for the omakase menu with 10 nigiri sushi, appetisers and sashimi. Oenophiles should check out the well-curated sake list." - Michelin Inspector

Kuala Lumpur: Southeast Asia’s Next Gourmet Destination?

"For those looking for a MICHELIN Guide recommendation, try Taka by Sushi Saito, the Kuala Lumpur-offshoot of three-MICHELIN-starred Saito in Tokyo. Here, there are only 16 seats hugging a counter made of 300-year-old Hinoki wood and produce is flown three times a week straight from Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market." - Azimin Saini

Visited Sushi Taka and finally got to try their renowned sushi—and wow, it did not disappoint! While the prices lean toward the higher end, every bite was worth it. The freshness of the fish was unparalleled, as if it had just leapt out of the ocean. Honorable mentions: Grilled Cherry Salmon (Sakuramasu Yuanyaki): So soft and silky, it practically melts in your mouth. Sea Urchin (Uni): Incredibly creamy with no hint of fishiness—a true delight. Sea Eel (Anago): So tender, it fell apart strand by strand with each bite. I was seated near the chef’s station, watching every sushi masterpiece come to life—superb! To top it all off, the staff surprised me with a cake for my birthday! The team was warm, and the chef kept us entertained throughout the meal. An unforgettable and thoroughly enjoyable dining experience!

First experience with omakase. Very good sushi, looking at master chef at work with his two assistants and other hotel staff. Good quality sushi.

I lived in the St Regis and was lucky to get reservations at this restaurant at a short notice. Chef Yazawa’s attention to detail and preparation of food are mesmerizing and admirable. The sushi is top notch and on par with high end sushi in Japan. If you are craving quality sushi and Japanese renown service without going to Japan, this is the place to be. I chose the Omakase option, for lunch and dinner. I highly recommend going for the Hana and Tsuki omakase. The Tsuki has a delicious seafood rice bowl as one of my favorites and the Hana has the delicious pufferfish Milt.

My experience at sushi Taka,a Michelin two-star establishment, was incredibly disappointing. We paid 5500 RM for an Omakase experience for three, expecting culinary excellence. However, the food was average at best, not justifying the steep price tag. Hygiene was also a major concern, with flying bugs present and one found in our sake. The staff then scooped out the bug and returned the contaminated sake to us. The manager's dismissive attitude towards our concerns further marred our visit. Overall, a regrettable experience that fell far short of expectations for a Michelin-rated restaurant. You can see another bug on the wasabi and all the chef and staff just ignored us when we informed them of it

My first Omakase experience was here! Amazing food with the best ambience. The head sushi chef was really witty and friendly. For me, the rice was absolutely amazing 💯 If you are ready to splurge and try Omakase for the first time, try here !

We were fortunate as it was only my dining partner and me seated at the wagyu counter on a weekday night. I had the Ozakigyu Omakase menu with a bottle of sake. It was fantastic. The cooking style of the chef really showcased the natural flavours of the Ozaki beef. The best part of the experience was Chef Yosuke's clear explanations that followed the preparation of each dish, including his helpful suggestions on how best to enjoy it. Taka Ushi gave me one of the best omakase experiences I've ever had. I highly recommend the 8-course Ozakigyu Omakase menu. This restaurant deserves a Michelin star in the upcoming Michelin Guide for Malaysia.

The intimate counter seating allows you to appreciate the chef’s skill and artistry up close. Highlights included the buttery otoro, delicate uni, and perfectly seasoned rice. Service is impeccable, creating a truly refined and memorable dining experience. A must-visit for sushi lovers seeking top-tier Japanese cuisine in KL!

Exceptional ambience in a private room with very attentive service. The restaurant has 2 main dining areas - the sushi counter and the grill. Excellent ingredients. Highlight was the first dish serving minced tuna neck with seaweed and the grilled Hokkaido scallop. It was a wet day, so the room was slightly chilly and temperature could not be set higher due to the central air-conditioning.
