"The humble strip-mall joint has been around for 20 years, and the Japanese clientele is a tip-off to the restaurant’s authenticity. They come for Sushi Tomi’s menu of pristine, no-fuss rolls, nigiri, and sashimi – the 18-piece sashimi dinner for $33.95 being one of the best deals in town. A daily list of specials usually comprises intriguing options, whether whelk, baby snow crab, iwashi, spot prawns, or geoduck." - Faiyaz Kara

This place is truly special. The welcome, the service, the friendliness and moreover; The Food was Delicious. Exceptional Chicken Karaage; very tasty. Their Sashimi is high quality some some special Fatty Tuna variety. Seaweed salad is plenty. We liked also the Negitoro roll, Honeymoon roll and the Tempura Ice Cream. Has also good Sake (a bit expensive the Sake). Would love to have Cold House Sake though… Thanks Yoriko, Stephanie and the Sushi Tomi Team. You are awesome! 💛

Google
Truly authentic Japanese restaurant. Owners and staff actually spoke Nihongo. The ingredients were fresh and high quality. The extraordinary part was the imported rice that they serve with their meals (sushi rice, etc). Picture attached. It elevated the dishes that they served. From the sushi chefs to the fry chef, the meals were all excellent. Best shrimp tempura we've had since going to Japan. Service was friendly and very efficient. Their prices are also inexpensive, especially for what you get in both quantity and above all, high quality food. Great job!!

Google
The food quality is outstanding, and the flavors are exceptional. The Japanese rice is perfectly cooked, showcasing authenticity in every bite. This truly feels like an authentic Japanese dish. Our favorite is definitely the curry rice. I wish I lived closer to the restaurant so I could enjoy your food more often.

Google
This is the restaurant I always make sure to visit whenever I'm in Orlando. As someone who was born and raised in Japan, I really miss authentic Japanese sushi that's both delicious and reasonably priced, and Sushi Tomi never fails to satisfy that craving. From their regular nigiri to the seasonal specials, Udon noodle soup, tempura, and more, everything is outstanding.

Google
I love coming here for sushi! It is pretty small inside and it gets crowded fast. The fish is so fresh here and the service is always amazing. My fav dishes are the beef gyudon rice bowl and the salmon roll.

Google
The food was disappointing. While the service was friendly, they weren’t attentive to our needs (extra plates, utensils, drinks), possibly because they were busy. • Gyozas: Fell apart easily, and the flavor was off. • Chicken Curry: Decent but unremarkable. I’ve had better. • Mexican Roll: Poor quality. no shrimp, and the avocado was black. I went based on great reviews, but it wasn’t worth it.

Google
Sashimi is cut to perfection and is fresh, salad dressing perfect and not top sweet, appetizers cooked to perfection, service is excellent, and the draft beer is cold! What's there not to like about this authentic Japanese restaurant? Oh wait and their bathroom has a full fledged bidet? Let's gooOOOOoo!

Google
The best Japanese curry and teriyaki chicken I have ever had!! The staff is very nice and friendly and even customized my curry to make it even better.

Yelp
Came in with a friend while visiting the area. We each had a spicy tuna bowl - I've had the roll, 100 times, but never like this. Delicious. Eggplant as an appetizer. Staff was incredibly welcoming - from a nice "welcome in" the second we entered to taking our order and serving food. We arrived the minute they opened and I'm so glad we did. 15 minutes later, the place was packed. That tells you how good it is. Plenty of parking. Conveniently located. Fair pricing and, as I said, great service.

Kevin L.

Yelp
Food was mediocre - I got the sashimi combo dinner and the fish quality was disappointing. Tuna had a pale color and the flesh "blocky" - I believe this happens when it's been frozen for a longer period of time. The salmon was oddly "meaty" and did not melt in your mouth like other salmon I've had. It included scallop which was to my delight and the octopus slice was decent. Service here was great though - attentive and the staff are Japanese.

Heidi B.

Yelp
Always quality food and service at Sushi Tomi. We have been coming there for 7 plus years and some of the same staff are still serving there. It's not a trendy place, but we love it. They do have daily specials listed in addition to their menu items. Go check it out.

Ashleigh S.

Yelp
This place is authentic and straight to the point good, some of the most fresh tasting hamachi I've ever had!

Scott D.

Yelp
Small no so hidden gem. People know about this place and come from all around to try it. There was a 20 min wait at lunch which is to be expected. It's a small dinning room. The lunch special is amazing for around $15 you get Tempura Shrimp and Veggies, miso soup, rice, California rolls and teriyaki chicken! Great deal, fantastic service. I'm not a sushi fan but everyone else on my party was and loved what they got

Jeff M.

Yelp
Good value with good food. Would recommend for casual lunch or dinner. I got the chirashi don and it was really good value. Priced significantly cheaper than most places but with the same quality and quantity of fish. The lunch specials are also great value and lots of good food. It's pretty good but not mind blowing. Typical standard Japanese family style restaurant but seems like these places are getting harder to find. Wasn't that busy but couldn't get any water refills for some reason they may have forgotten about us but otherwise service was fine.

Diane G.

Yelp
The service was amazing as soon as we walked in. Everything was clean and our food was brought out to us in good time. We tried the chicken katsu curry and it was the best we've ever had! We also had the Lady's finger roll and spicy tuna rolls which were both very good. The servers were very attentive of us. I would definitely recommend this place!!

Truc P.

Yelp
Was not a fan of the Pork Curry Katsu as it was too salty for me but I will be back to try their sushi! The staffs were super sweet however and pricing is very fair. I just felt the curry portion was way too much for the pork and rice portion. It did come with miso or salad so definitely a nice touch on a winter day!

Bella A.

Yelp
Last day in orlando and we were craving sushi. Found this location while on our way to airport. The waiters were both really nice and attentive Sat us down fairly quickly and we were a party of 15 We all had a little bit of everything they offer My plate was the lunch combo with Gyoza We also had a spicy tuna roll and cucumber. It's nice inside although kinda small. When we return we will definitely stop by again

Moriah L.

Yelp
The udon was so good I felt like I was back in Japan. The prices were fair, the beer was freezing cold, and the food was fresh and delicious. I'll definitely be back again to try more of the menu. My partner said the teriyaki was super good. The ambience is fine, it's a sushi spot in a strip mall, but it's overall definitely worth checking out. The service is pretty rushed but everyone is super nice.

Bruce N.

Yelp
Come sail away, Come sail away, Come sail away with Sushi! My first visit to this cozy restaurant and the service was great. Friendly and attentive staff helping me keep the Beer and Sake flowing :) Ordered the Sushi Sashimi Boat Combo (hence the Styx intro reference, lol). It includes 16 slices of Sashimi, 12 pieces of Nigiri, a Tuna and Cucumber Roll... what's there not to love? Everything was fresh and presented beautifully. Definitely will dine in again, highly recommended!

Yelp
Prices went up as far dining in this past friday! At least $1 or more per menu item. Also it looked like they are not as busy as they are used to on a friday dinner time. Unless the time I was there was a bit early around 5-6pm ish. Only reason I know they lost diners is: - Service and food orders can be slow that they sometimes forget to order the orders via sushi bar or kitchen from my experience .. also water service is hit or miss - Long wait time for a table and they also jot down wrong phone numbers for waiting in line which I have seen in the past They were short today as far as staff in the sushi bar, They had 2 kitchen hispanic staff doing sushi chef duties along with 1 japanese sushi chef with them. They need to be careful adding non japanese sushi chefs on the floor because that is how diners perceive the AUTHENTICITY of the restaurant itself. Not saying the hispanic staff don't know how to do the job but its sometimes perception with diners especially new diners. If you want to keep it authentic diners do judge by staff how authentic the staff are. I also noticed on the nigiri the rice was not as much as I am used to having. For the price hike keep the rice amount the same. The dishes are still delicious and awesome sushi just beware of the price hike!

Ari L.

Yelp
Hidden Gem! for great Japanese food. The Pork Katsu is super close to being authentic. The last time it tasted this good was when I had it on Japan. The sushi is fresh and tasty. The restaurant was clean and bright. They also had cold Kirin Ichiban beer on tap !!! The wait staff was great, friendly, and quick with beverages and our food order. Definitely will visit again!

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Super authentic Japanese food! They serve the best pork katsu, it's unbelievable how it can be so light and crisp. It's a small place so it tends to fill up fast. Some people will come a little bit before opening to make sure they can snag a seat right away. Service can be slow sometimes but everyone is very nice. It's a little pricey but everything tastes phenomenal and the portions are solid. The sushi is amazing and you can order specialty items depending on availability. They serve dishes that you simply can't find elsewhere like Japanese curry and unadon. A must-go if you like Japanese food!

Andrew J.

Yelp
Let me start off saying we showed up at 1:30 on a Thursday and they close at 2. The menu is not a traditional American sushi menu. Sushi Toni seems to mostly have customer's that know exactly what they want. You will not have a list of 30 rolls plus sushi plus sashimi. You have a few "house" rolls and then more basic rolls and sashimi. The lunch platter allows 5 sashimi selections and a roll plus a green salad or miso soup. I ordered tuna, salmon, spicy tuna, yellow tail and a 5th I cannot remember. I also ordered a signature spicy tuna roll, tempura shrimp roll and crispy salmon skin roll. The last two were for my wife whom does not eat roe or raw offerings. She also got geoza and edamame. The lunch menu was not easy to understand but they offered many things. The ramen looked fantastic in pictures. We felt bad to keep the staff beyond 2 by about 15 mins. They were friendly and quick. Very quiet and pleasant restaurant. Worth it if you live in the area.

Joy Y.

Yelp
Ordered the tendon bowl and had some items off the sushi paper. The tempura was very light and crunchy. It did not overtake the flavor of the shrimp or vegetables, reminded me of the tendon I had in Tokyo! The ikura and uni were also super fresh! And the price was very good too. Service was great, the waiters were really attentive. The restaurant itself is nice, there are a few tables and you can also sit at the sushi bar. Bathrooms have bidets which is a plus! Would definitely recommend this Japanese spot in Orlando

Amy C.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch with my son. I ordered the sushi lunch for $17.50. I got 7pcs. Of nigiri with a miso soup. You have to order 1 of each and cannot order duplicates. My son did the chicken katsu curry and it came with a soup. Everything was delicious. Service was good. They were definitely well staffed. Good spot for lunch.

Jeff Y.

Yelp
We came to Sushi Tomi cause some of the amazing photos on yelp. I immediately wanted to try the katsu curry which was the perfect portion. The pork katsu was so tender and cooked to perfection. We also added sushi and to our delight, the prices were such a good deal!! $6.50 for fatty tuna sushi and $7 for uni! Just wow!!! We were a little worries but once we had a taste, the fish was very good quality we were tempted to order more. Staff was also 10/10 and the food came very quickly! We also had the tendon which was delicious. Definitely make Sushi Tomi your next stop if you need a sushi fix in Orlando!

Billy C.

Yelp
My favorite sushi spot in Orlando. It's simple but hits the spot. No fancy gold flakes or caviar.

Natasha S.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem in a shopping plaza with authentic Japanese dishes and sushi, sashimi, and nigiri. A small, casual dining space. Most of the patrons were Japanese. They don't have the long list of extravagant rolls of some other restaurants that load them with cream cheese and sauces. There are some special rolls, but most of the sushi is more traditional. Everything tasted very fresh. We ordered a special Sushi Tomi Roll, which was really tasty, a California roll with real crab, and a Sushi combination platter that included chef's choice nigiri and a tuna roll. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was delicious too. Service was very friendly.

Rushdi A.

Yelp
Deliciousness!!! I was looking for a new place to eat in the area and wasn't disappointed. I came during lunch and the place was packed. Fortunately there was a spot at the sushi bar. The service was prompt and polite, light jazz playing in the background. The sashimi lunch platter was delightful, fresh and savory. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of the lunch platter. So I ordered some additional pieces to top things off. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
Walking in for lunch, you are met with the faces and voices of various Japanese & Asian families, even on a Wednesday afternoon. A good indicator for the quality and type of food being served. It took a minute to get a table in the small dining room, but the staff were very kind and accommodating. My family and I ordered a good variety: the lunch combinations, sashimi, as well as my order of udon soup. The fish is fresh, cold, and of great quality. Fried items such as the tempura have a light, thin and crispy batter. The teriyaki chicken is markedly different than the teriyaki most are used to: the chicken has a more pronounced grilled flavor, and is not drowning in a sickly sweet, salty sauce. Their glaze is far more subtle, and cleaner in taste. The udon was served in a clay pot, piping hot with a perfectly runny poached egg, fish cake slices and tempura. The noodles had good texture, although I would say the soup was slightly flat for my taste. Overall, the food had great quality, and a good, clean flavor.

Jim M.

Yelp
I agree with what has previously been stated... ...if you walk in and you are the only non-Asian; buckle up Dorothy, you are not in Kansas anymore. This place ranks up with the best I have had on Earth, and i am a sushi snob! Thinking about going? Only a fool wouldn't. How's that for incentive? Do it.

Chris K.

Yelp
Always a great dinner when visiting this authentic Japanese restaurant. The servers are in traditional Japanese clothing and the food is always fresh and amazing. The daily specials are a must as well as the pork katsu curry. The prices are a bit on the pricier end but it is worth it.

Anousha M.

Yelp
This was an amazing authentic Japanese place. I loved the Japanese curry . The purple sweet potato was also the highlight of the specials. Made our grandma very happy.

Emily H.

Yelp
Authentic and delicious Japanese food & family owned! It's a small and homey vibe restaurant right when you enter. My bf and I got their boat and pork katsudon. I loved their fresh sashimi and nigiri. It filled me up. My bf also wanted to try their pork katsudon and he really enjoyed how savory it was. For me, I preferred the seafood more! I would love to come back and try other items on their menu :)

Chi T.

Yelp
Love love love Sushi Tomi! I have been coming here for a long time, and it never disappoints. They serve authentic Japanese food so don't expect that 2 page menu of rolls drenched in spicy Mayo or eel sauce. They have the real deal like Katsu, udon, and rice bowls. Their fish is always fresh and the frequently have specials (blue fin Otoro and ChuToro)! I typically do the sushi menu and choose a bunch of nigiri. Most recently I got sweet shrimp, uni, tuna, salmon, yellowtail, smelt roe, salmon eggs, spicy tuna, negituna, spicy tuna roll, and scallop. All were delicious! Their spicy tuna is fantastic here! It also comes in a rice bowl. Other items I like are shrimp tempura, hamachi Kama, beef teriyaki, sushi combinations, Katsudons, and udon. It's a small place, be ready to wait for a weekend dinner. Hospitality is always awesome, the sweet Japanese lady makes me feel like I'm in Japan.

Jillian R.

Yelp
#1 Japanese restaurant in all of Florida! Fresh, authentic, and delicious food! Better get there before it opens if you want a spot! The ones who know, KNOW!

Greg D.

Yelp
We had an amazing time at Sushi Tomi - the sashimi, sushi, and edamame were all excellent. The spicy tuna roll was especially fantastic. All the staff were extraordinarily welcoming, friendly, and attentive. We will definitely be back any time we are in the area.

Hideko M.

Yelp
We waited 30 minutes before opening to make sure we would be the first since I had to leave there by 6:30. Unfortunately they took all the other customers orders before us. By the time they took orders from us, it was already 5:50 pm... 6:30 pm, still no food for all of us. I had to leave, and my group got food like 6:40 according to my friends. Not worth driving for 40 minutes from Maitland. I ordered Oyako-don. Not impressed, well I ate it like 10 pm when my food was brought it back by my roommate. It's "Kanto" / East Japan style donburi, which is soy sauce base. I grew up in the West side of Japan, "Kansai" which is fish/seaweed broth base donburi.

Christina S.

Yelp
A bit of a small place with a little bit of a wait but it was a Friday night. Service was excellent & so was the food!! I would definitely visit again.

Bethany L.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night - we walked in 7 minutes after they opened and grabbed one of the last two tables available! I ordered the sashimi dinner (12 pc.) and really enjoyed the miso soup and the ginger salad. However, the sashimi itself was okay. The octopus was delicious - but I've certainly had more flavorful salmon and tuna. I will say the portions were generous! On top of that, service was a bit slow and chaotic. Two people in my part ordered beers, which weren't brought out until some of us got our food! Additionally, we ordered gyoza that were never put in (so we ended up canceling that after they offered to make ASAP). Overall, I would go again but would opt for a roll or one of their other entrees, rather than straight sashimi! Other diners seemed to be enjoying their experience, so maybe I didn't order well that night!

Q O.

Yelp
The best sushi in Orlando and one of top sushi restaurant in the country. The quality of sushi and sashimi is excellent. They make their sushi to melt in your mouth. The rice and seaweed is authentic Japanese. Their other dishes from donkatsu, grilled octopus, and everything on their menu are awesome. It is our go to spot when we are in Orlando. We would only eat here if our hotel is near by. You will be very happy to eat here.

MY V.

Yelp
Was recommended to check this place out for some good sushi and chicken katsu curry. I've never had chicken katsu curry and always wanted to try it. It was a hit for me and I would come back for it. Nice crispy chicken and it went well with the curry. CAme right when they open and they filled up quick for dinner. Place is a bit small with limited amount of tables. So I suggest coming right when they open. Service was great.

Vincent N.

Yelp
Very small and authentic sushi restaurant specializing in sashimi and Nigiri pieces. For a starter, we ordered the sashimi appetizer. I would consider it neutral and nothing special to write home about. For the price ($16) there was value in what you got but the quality did not stand out to me. This can also be said about their special rolls as well. Not amazing, but not terrible. Where they shine, in my opinion, is their service. Very quick, understanding, and friendly! Great atmosphere and decent quality food will definitely make me a repeat customer. Lastly, get the egg Nigiri because it is simply divine and that is one thing that I do not regret getting. We ordered two and had to get two more! I would have ordered even more if I wasn't too full!

Julie B.

Yelp
The beat I have had in Central Florida. The drive is far for us, but everyone enjoyed their sushi and bento box! The sake is amazing also!

Eugene Z.

Yelp
The small restaurant is packed during lunch and you'll know why. Everything from walking in to walking out was fantastic. The staff explained everything should you have any questions and treated us well. Pork Katsudon was a bit too salty for my tastes. Sushi Lunch is probably your best bet for some quick sushi for lunch. Nama Chirashi Bowl is absolutely the best. I think I could've ordered this one dish and be happy.

Ramesh S.

Yelp
Best find for fresh Sushi and Sashimi with a diverse hot food options at Sushi Tomi. Very attentive service as well. Only problem is the limited seating and waiting time. If you avoid peak hour you may find quicker seating.

Hope M.

Yelp
The only thing I've ever gotten here is the pork katsu curry but it's my most favorite curry ever! It's so much better than the one you can make at home with the golden curry blocks The meat is crispy and tender and the sauce is thick and extremely flavorful but not too salty or anything. Also I love the short rice grains. The portion is quite large with the hearty sauce and rice, which is great for the price. I can't speak for the sushi since I've never gotten it (even tho it's in the name lol) but just based on the curry dish it's 5 stars for sure !

Isis Y. C.

Yelp
I am not a big fan of sushi, but I tried theirs and loved it! Definitely worth the drive all the way from Texas!

Carlie V.

Yelp
So, I BELIEVE that I have found the Japanese/Sushi Hidden Gem of Orlando and it is called SUSHI TOMI!! Let me tell you when you walk into a Sushi restaurant and ninety percent (90%) of the diners are of Oriental/Japanese descent then you've probably found the holy grail. Just saying. Now this place isn't in a ritzy part of town with a glamorous building façade. Its located in a Strip Mall and if you were to know nothing about the place you would maybe keep on going. Boy howdy would that be a MISTAKE!! When you enter you'll find they have about 8-9 tables and about 7 chairs at their Sushi Bar. That's it. All of the tables, but one, were filled when we arrived and we got seated at the only open table. Our waitress came and took our drink order. When she returned we gave her our food order. My wife ordered their Seafood Tempura which comes with 2 Shrimp, 2 Pcs of White Fish, 2 pcs of Squid, 3 pcs of Scallop, and 3 vegetables one of which was pumpkin. Her meal also came with a Miso Soup, a Salad and rice. My wife also ordered a roll called the Ultimate Florida Roll which was a Krab (Kani Kama) salad roll topped with Eel. I started my order with a Seaweed Salad followed by a Sashimi plate with 12 pieces of raw fish followed by my own Seafood Tempura. The Miso Soup and Salad were the first to arrive. The soup was hot and had loads of flavor and we both enjoyed it. The salad was fresh tasted good as well. Then the wifes Ultimate Florida Roll came. The roll had a good flavor but my wife did say she would probably try something else the next time we come back. My Seaweed Salad was the next thing to arrive and it had seaweed, sliced cucumber and sweet vinegar in it. The flavors were wonderful and totally enjoyable. At this point the only thing left was our Seafood Tempura and it arrived and looked beautiful. IT was lightly battered and fried to perfection. A lot of times when I've ordered tempura from other places I got the feeling its not fresh. Kind of like the batter and the fish are commercially battered and frozen. Sushi Tomi's tempura looked and tasted like it was freshly and locally made. It wasn't greasy or oily and had a wonderful flavor that my wife and I both completely enjoyed. All I can say is that the next time we are back in Orlando we will be heading to the Japanese/Sushi Hidden Gem of Orlando that's called SUSHI TOMI!!

Justin N.

Yelp
I make it to Orlando/Central Florida a few times a year and always do my best to carve out time to hit up Sushi Tomo. Wonderful staff, wonderful and authentic food, and good variety. The price tag is nowhere, near some of the "fancy looking" places closer to the tourist-trap areas. Weather you are local or just visiting, take advantage of this gem.

Kalvin K.

Yelp
A no frills super authentic Japanese restaurant. I was a huge fan of Aki before it closed and was happy to find a good replacement! Sushi Tomi serves fresh sushi and delicious Japanese staples like katsudon, ten don, and noodle dishes. I've been here for lunch and dinner - the quality is exceptional. My favorite was the sashimi dinner which had fresh cuts of tuna, yellow tail, salmon, mackerel, conch, and snapper. My favorite were the snapper and yellow tail. Dinners come with soup and salad - the miso soup was hot and not too salty. Wonderful for a cold day. Service was good and friendly. Will definitely return. Just a tip - it's not a large restaurant so make a reservation or prepare to wait, especially on a weekend.

Alex T.

Yelp
Tucked away in a large strip mall, Sushi Tomi is unassuming and easily passed by. If it wasn't for coworkers in my employer's office taking me there while I was in town, I never would have given it a try. I ordered the lunch combo and it was excellent! Apparently Sushi Tomi is a go-to lunch place for many people in the industry I work in. It's important to get there early because it's rather small and it will full up fast, even for lunch. My coworkers say it's one of the best sushi places in Orlando.

Johanna Y.

Yelp
My favorite no frills authentic Japanese spot in Orlando and part of my regular rotation of go to places. The ramen is delicious, the sushi fresh and tasty and tempura lovely. I have not ventured passed these items yet The staff is always friendly and I feel happy coming here.

Sarah B.

Yelp
One of my all time favorite experiences eating out. The staff were so kind and generous. Greeting us and saying bye all with smiles on their faces. The food was delicious they did not skimp out at all. The lunch special came with such a great assortment of items at an amazing price. Me and my friends were raving about it as the day went on. I wish I had a picture of my meal but I dug in too fast to remember!

Angelica K.

Yelp
This place is great. The tempura udon soup and the sushi are so fresh. The is a very nice little place and clean, the service is always very good and friendly. Thank you

Ruoyun W.

Yelp
Three years ago, I came across this restaurant when looking for Japanese cuisine in Orlando. I became a fan immediately after one visit. The taste of the food is so delicate, flavorful, fresh and balanced. Everything is beyond good, but I particularly recommend their sashimi/sushi. One bite, and your mouth tells you the difference. The taste of high quality. It reminded me of my trips to Japan. The owners are Japanese, and I can tell they hold themselves to high standard. Anyone who values authenticity and quality should visit Sushi Tomi.

Rafaela M.

Yelp
The food was so great! I went to have lunch with my family and the lunch prices were super affordable; the portions were well-served. The servers were also extremely kind and very sweet. Try the vegetable tempura, it was my favorite!

Freddy C.

Yelp
We went there after a long day at Universal studio. Searched up most authentic Japanese place in this place did not disappoint. We went in early aceta right away the food. You can tell that it was run by local Japanese management. Orders came out fairly quick. We like everything we ordered would recommend if you're looking for authentic Japanese restaurant in Orlando in my opinion, for being in Orlando. Like i state on other reviews, I'm not a big fan of pretentious BS places. This place is it legit. Try it out!
