This cozy restaurant offers an authentic Japanese dining experience that's truly unmatched. Every dish is a masterpiece and amazingly fresh, bursting with flavor. Having been here several times, it never disappoints. The quality of the food is outstanding, and the prices are more than fair for what you get. There’s also plenty of free parking, which makes it even more convenient. I highly recommend trying the chawan mushi soup, the black cod, and the sashimi. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff for consistently delivering such a delightful experience. If you're craving Japanese food, this resto is a must-visit!

The waitress was not happy because we arrived 8 minutes before our reservation, even though the table was available. The food was average, nothing to write home about. The combo served had a lot of vegetables (fried sweet potato, cucumber, avocado), some of the Makis were too big, hard to fit in the mouth, with almost no space to chew. The calamari was a bit rubbery, pale and greasy. Chicken Karaage was good. It wasn't a horrible experience but it's also not a place I'll return to or recommend to anyone.

Google
Sushi Yasu left much to be desired. The service lacked empathy and felt cold, making the whole experience unwelcoming, rushing our orders just making us feel like we gotta finish it asap. Food quality was average at best, nothing stood out or justified the hype. The combo promised and didn't deliver the flavours and mix, just plain rice and veggiess someone who truly supports local businesses, it’s disappointing to say I won’t be returning. It simply doesn’t earn more than 3 stars in my book.

Customer service needs to be improved in this restaurant. Upon arrival, it took 5 minutes to be greeted by a server who asked if we had made a reservation. When we said no reservation, she told us that we had to wait for 30 minutes or longer. Then we decided to order a takeout of sushi and maki combo for 2 people. Food was nothing special, just ordinary. There are better places to eat good quality sushi in Montreal.

Google
A casual and family-friendly eatery in the south shore, one of our rotating restaurants for years. They offer an full array of authentic Japanese dishes ranged from the comforting udon katsu to the refined elegance of nigiri. In addition to an extensive list of Entrées from cold/fried/grilled/baked, the succulent Rimouski Uni and the flavorsome Alaska snow crab have lately made theirs ways to the chalkboard menu. Since the new owner/chef has taken over, the service has seen remarkable improvement and has even undergone a partial redecoration recently. At last, the awkward black leather tablecloths have been removed and those uncomfortable round chairs have been replaced. While the new owner's culinary skills are still evolving and have yet to match those of his predecessor, the food remains quite enjoyable and satisfying.

Google
Fantastic restaurant that I have been to countless times. Each and every time, the food was delicious and the service was friendly both during lunch times and dinner times. The food does get pricey for dinner, especially if you plan to only eat sushi, but I believe the quality is worth the price. Lunch time is a lot more affordable and still offers a decent selection.

Google
Hands down the best, most authentic Japanese fare in or around Montreal. The karaage in particular is so tender and juicy; 1000/10! The staff are also really lovely! We'll definitely be back to try some more of their delicious offerings!

Google
Very bad service, we are standing in the front door for 5-10 min (table was available all time) even tho the waiter see us and we have eye contact and she just run to the back and stand in the kitchen doing nothing. Waiters doesnt seem to know whats the priority. Settling the customer first to avoid blocking the front door is it common sense? This is not the first time that happens. It takes forever to come take the order. All i can say is the food is not bad

Yelp
Excellent little sushi spot. Always busy, hence why I dropped in. Service was amiable and very kind, looked like a family business. Portions were decent for the price paid - good value for the money. I would 100% come back.

Yelp
I've heard some good things about this place...so i had some high expectations. The place is a little small, but that's OK. If you decide to go here I would definitely tell you to reserve ahead of time. We ordered the soft crab tempura, foie gras sushi, chutoro and the combo B. The soft crab tempera was ok. 1 piece for 18$. The chutoro and the foie gras was DELICIOUS! The combo B was a little bit underwhelming. There was a lot of rice for the ratio of fish in the middle. They include hot tea, which I really like helps the digestion while you're eating, something I haven't seen many sushi, restaurants do. Overall, I would say it's OK. I did hear that there would be a new chef coming in, so I'm definitely going to give it another try, but if it was the same chef, I don't think I would necessarily recommend this place.

Yelp
Brilliant sushi place, a bit of a far drive from downtown montreal, but one of the best sushi places in the area for sure. It is owned and operated by a Japanese family, and among the many "fusion" new age quirky sushi places that are all the rage nowadays, yasu is one of the few that are really authentically Japanese, without being excessively expensive. They have a wide range of options on the sushi menu, and also have seasonal options and specials that are changed up (check out their facebook page for updates and yummy photos). They are one of the very few restaurants that serve uni (sea urchin) that is sourced locally from Quebec, and it is absolutely splendid in their rice bowl, and sells out quick. I've had uni from some other restaurants and it was not as fresh and sometimes tasted even off...but I've never had that experience here. They also had a whelk (tsubugai) dish special previously which was very interesting to try. Definitely give this place a try. It's a fantastic family owned business and they are super friendly, and their takeout is always prompt and packaged neatly.

Yelp
This place is the go to sushi place in Brossard for many people in the shore. It has been here for as long as I could remember and it's always packed! From experience though, it's either hit or miss, depending on the night. I went with my family on a Sunday without reservations, it was packed but luckily there was one table of four free. We ordered the usual regular makis - kamizake, spicy tuna, spicy salmon, avocado, tempura shrimps and avocado, imitation crab and cucumber. The taste was good but presentation could have been better - the rolls were not uniform and the rice didnt hold that well so def had to either put it on your plate as soon as you picked the maki piece from the plate or in your mouth lol We also had the seafood tempura appetizer and tuna tataki (portions are pretty small) but definitely tasty.

Yelp
It's a little restaurant with friendly staff. We were seated very quickly and offered the menu. We ordered a few a la carte items as well as a sushi set. The sashimi were very fresh, sushi tasted good. Overall everything was great. Except I personally liked the AYVE better as it assured you could leave with a full stomach. This visit, I left with an 80% full stomach.

Yelp
So I'll start off by saying that this place came highly recommended to me. Somehow, I had missed this place and always went to Sushi Kamikaze in place Portobello when in Brossard with my family. I went with my siblings on a Sunday evening. It was pretty crowded and this place is pretty small. We were seated on the last available table and the service was courteous. We ordered appetizers and sushi for our mains. Everything was good - and I love that they bring complimentary edamame to the table, a nice touch. The sushi combo we chose was 38 pieces for $38 which is a great deal. What gets a little pricier is the appetizers. We ordered 2 different tempura plates + the fried chicken. Everything was yummy but didn't wow us. I've had better sushi overall but for Brossard, this place is pretty great.

Yelp
Great authentic sushi/japanese food on the south shore! Not only can you get quality sushi here, but they also offer your more classic homey japanese dish like Ebi Tempura, Katsu Curry, Croquette, Oyako Don, Tori Kaarage, Chawan-mushi, which are all delicious and served with good portions. On top of that you can try their awesome japanese fusion dishes like Tsubugai Mikadoyaki, which is this melt in your mouth clam gratinées seasoned with miso sauce and japanese mayo. If you are on the Southshore and you are craving for some good sushi/japanese food. This place is a no brainer.

Yelp
If youre looking for some decent sushi/sashimi, this is where you should go! Depending on the season, they have specials: uni, soft shell crab, black cod etc I mostly go there for their sushi and sashimi, since price is reasonable for a non all you can eat place and quality is amazing! Owned by japanese!

Yelp
It was the 3rd time we returned to this place. All sushi nigiri, warm entrees, main dishes are all delicious! At dinner time, service was a bit too quick. We ordered three ((3) hot starters: deep fried skate fish with ponzu sauce, crispy fried chicken and steam egg with seafood in a custard cup. Delicious! Then we also ordered a few things from the sushi list as well: unagi, mackerel, tamago, ebi, kanikama and avocado maki. Fish very fresh, and the rice between tender and chewy texture. As far as main courses, we had a curry pork katsu don and a chicken and soft egg on rice. Very good. both our palette are satisifed.

Yelp
My friend told me it's one of the best Japanese restaurants in south shore and it really is! Normally we have to line up there to get a seat in the evening because the place is packed, but when we went there last time it was quite okay and no line-up needed (Friday night at 7PM)! The SASHIMI was the BEST, cannot go wrong with that, they have the plate only or the table d'hôte for you to choose. Didn't try their sushi (they are à la carte) but my friend said that their nigiri are amazing. The dishes are prepared by a Japanese chef and you can see him working on it while you wait patiently for your plate. It was quite an amazing dining experience!

Yelp
I've come here before years ago, this place was around when sushi restos weren't everywhere yet... not much has changed here. Anyhow, it's still one of a hand full of restos owned and operated by japanese people in mtl. The menu here hasn't changed much since then, it veers more traditional japanese cuisine, so no you will not have the montreal roll or some funky new spicy mayo fufu roll. It's quite a full fledged menu, sashimi, nigiri, and some makis, nothing fancy. Appetizers include agedashi tofu, tori karaage (still not up to my liking, still in search of good tori karaage in mtl!!!). They have teriyaki, grilled yakitori and jap style chicken curry. One more staple of traditional japanese cuisine, chawanmushi, which is an egg steamed in broth with mushroom and seafood, the flavors are subtle and an acquired taste. They also have ramen !!! The standout dish here is the grilled black cod, it is juicy and buttery, nicely done. The sushi is fresh, and stands up nicely, sometimes it's nice to go back to basics and just eat some fish and rice, no mayo, no spicy, no tempura. Agedashi tofu, bland and the tofu texture was bit soggy and dry inside, it wasn't silky soft inside so for me it's a fail. Tori karaage, fried chicken which wasn't too crispy and it was bland not salt at all... chawanmushi was also bland, prok belly skewer was dry and bland. Ramen and chicken curry were average. It's a nice quiet resto, and we lingered a while and had a very long conversation, it's a nice ambiance to sit and chill.

Yelp
After almost a year, my family finally returned last week for the din in. The quality of the sushi have not change, the best here in South Shore area. Most of the old staff and kitchen chef still there. The service still good. The only reason I give a 4 stars this time is because we booked the reservation at 5, and she want us out by latest 6:30, kinda ruined the night before we even sit down. Oh, during the lock down, we did a few pick up, the food was ready on time and the sushi was as good as din in. For sure going back.

Yelp
Real Japanese restaurant ! We tried bento box and fish sashimi. Everything is so good and fresh. BBQ eel and rice is the best part of the whole bento box. We will try noodles and Japanese curry next time!

Yelp
The food was ok. The staff was nice and attentive, though they forgot our drink order.

Yelp
We found this little gem when visiting the Montreal area. The staff was friendly, the prices were very reasonable and the sushi was some of the best we have ever had. We had maki, sushi and sashimi and all was amazing. Fresh and very well prepared. Only wish we could live closer.

Yelp
Very wonderful experience, the waiter is quite cute( according my boyfriend lol) can speak English japonaise Spanish and français :) The food is fresh, hard to believe the crab sticks are REAL! ! !not by flour mixed! Super love it!

Yelp
My go-to sushi place!!! It's a bit out of my way but always worth the trip. Their lunch menu is very affordable and the quality is just superb! Always a satisfying meal. I really recommend you this place.

Yelp
We went to Sushi Yasu with a group of 22 (maximum they can accommodate). The food is excellent and very fresh. I was told the 2 sushi chefs were Japanese. There is no comparing this place with other "buffet" sushi restaurants. The restaurant itself is very small. The decor is a bit outdated but the food is so amazing that you don't even notice.
google avatar

Anis K.

Yelp
Sushi Yasu is a Brossard institution. Started by the Yasu family many years ago, this authentic Japanese family owned restaurant is one of the finest sushi places in the Montreal area. The quality is simply excellent. I highly recommend the sashimi lunch special, for around 15$ I don't believe you can have better sushi within a hundred miles. If you live in Brossard and haven't tried Sushi Yasu yet, you need to, because you're missing out.

Ale G.

Yelp
Decent selection. Grilled squid good, edamame were cold. 2 rolls were decent but unimaginative and non memorable. Pleasant but slow service. Would be a 2 star (best case)in any foodie city.

Yelp
Hand down one of my favourite places to come here for dinner! I went one time during a busy lunch day and only have two waitress on the floor, it took about 15-20 mins to get our food but it wasn't too bad and I do love their lunch menu but I prefer to their lunch sashimi set. Dinner time wise is the best in my opinion, the food here is top quality in Brossard. I'll start off with apps which is short for appetizer, the miso soup has more dashi than miso which is great to start your meal it isn't too heavy on the pallet and let you enjoy the rest of your food, followed by the salad which is delicious you have your greens, seaweed, white rice noodles, hard boiled egg and the salad sauce. The sauce itself is amazing with the miso and garlic combination. For my main I usually go with classics, cucumber maki, salmon maki, tuna maki, salmon and tuna nigiri with a large sashimi set depending on what fish is in season. The fish here for sure is fresh, if you can tell what Canadian fresh fish is like.

Yelp
I was discussing with a friend of mine about good and affordable sushi restaurants. He sent me a link to an article from LaPresse regarding this place... I had to try. As some have noted the service can be a little slow and disorganised. Seems like anything coming out of the kitchen might be a bit slow to get which seems to make some patrons impatient. The sushi preparation was truly superb. If you have a chance to sit at the bar, you will see true Itamae at work. These are not your average sushi chefs but actual master chefs... not to be confused with what you see in 99% of Montreal's restaurant (other than my beloved Juni). As I was with a few friends, we all decided to taste different items. I decided to try the Chirashi (as mentioned in the article) and I have to say was not disappointing. My mind was blown by how beautiful and tasty the fish was. This restaurant isn't the flashy type we've come to see in the city. The plates aren't covered in mayo (if any) , It's very humble and very close to what I remember seeing many times in Japan (+1 authenticity). But if you're planning on going there for a romantic evening and want a trendy place to impress your date, I would not go here. It can get noisy and the service can really be slow (-1). I got to taste the curry rice and tonkatsu and both tasted exactly like what I've tasted in Japan. Conclusion: I fell in love with the food here. But if you're looking for a trendy place to go this isn't it. here is the link for those that are interested (its old but stilla accurate): http://www.lapresse.ca/vivre/gourmand/restaurants/201103/28/01-4383890-yasu-sushi-la-ou-vont-les-japonais.php

Yelp
Very fresh sushi, and authentic japanese cuisine. I have never been here for dinner, but I really enjoy their lunch specials. The sushi chefs are Japanese, and one of the waitress is also Japanese. They are all very nice! Overall, I would eat here every week if only it was not in the south shore :(
google avatar

Danny L.

Yelp
What we expected was very different from what we got. The service was unsatisfactory and the food was unacceptable. For example on the menu for one of the combos the description says there is rice and variety of different sashimi. Firstly, we didn't get the rice and the "variety" it says there is was nowhere to be seen! This was not the only thing that was disappointing to our dinner. The starting part of our dinner we saw other tables have little beans in a pod and we didn't get it at all! Yet other tables got it. Next when serving to us she looked like she was mad at us the whole time which made us very uncomfortable and made the experience horrible. So if you and your family or friends want to come I highly don't recommend it and hope you can find a different place.

Yelp
Wonderful food and extremely friendly staff. I know when I want a great japanese meal, this is where I will go to get my fix.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Sushi yasu has some of the best sushi around. Space is limited so you will want to make a reservation.
google avatar

Nelson L.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The sushi and noodle lunch special is quite reasonable.

Max D.

Yelp
The decor in the resto is bland, but once you try the food, it's all you can think about. The sushi is fresh and all the food tastes authentic. I had the bento box which comes with soup, salad, and a box of sushi, maki, tempura and rice with barbecued eel. It was all delicious. The resto is very small though so you need to make reservations.

HK H.

Yelp
My friend introduce my family to this place 2 years ago, and we has been returning regularly. Good (real) sushi in Brossard, not your Chinese sushi buffet quality if you know what I mean.
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Excellent and fresh sushi on the south shore of Montreal. But I will advise: go there for Sushi only and order in advance during weekends or be prepared to wait (30 minutes to prepare your sushis when house is full). 2nd advice, do not buy anything other than their sushis (really not tasty and not worth it). Sake + Sushi is the best! They are friendly though

N S.

Yelp
Love Sushi yasu-they are the real authentic deal!! Really lovely service and fantastic food. Lunch special is a great value!!

Yelp
they really know how to treat there customers. such a nice experience will definitely come back.

Claude H.

Yelp
Best Japanese restaurant in the Montreal area. Food is authentic, prepared by real sushi master, and if you are not into sushi, plenty of other traditional dishes to enjou

Mike G.

Yelp
The menu was quite varied. There's something for everyone, even for those that don't like sushi. Very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The chefs are Japanese, which came as a surprise, since many sushi restaurants around Montreal are owned by Quebecers of Vietnamese origin. Went there on Valentine's night with my loved one. It was pretty busy, so service was a bit on the slow side. We both ordered the table d'hôte. For those looking for a quite full and hearty meal, this is definitely the way to go. It's a five course meal including dessert. It consists of a choice of soup, salad, tempura vegetables, followed by the main course (quite a choice) and end in a scoop of ice cream with tea. I ordered the tempura vegetables as side dish but got the grilled tofu instead. No big deal for me since I like both. That's where I found that the staff was bit overwhelmed with the massive amount of orders they were getting that night. The food was really good. Not fancy but good. The seating wasn't very comfortable. If you're lucky enough and they're available, do ask for a bench seat on the sides. I wanted to give it a 3.5 star rating but yelp doesn't allow for half star ratings. My recommendation to all, go there on a slow night. Avoid Friday and Saturday nights. You'll probably get better service and better seating.
