Extremely well priced Omakase, in fact one of the best for the prices. The fish is all quality. Uni was amazing. Ivory salmon was unique. The ambiance and atmosphere make this restaurant both warm and cozy. Small place. Hands down, would highly recommend to anyone and absolutely will be coming back.

Nicely prepared sushi from Zawa Japanese restaurant in UES. It is a true hidden gem in NYC. I enjoyed it a lot and there was nothing I could fault which means they've done it all very well. My first impression especially, was great! They wrote the name of each fish on the lid. It is a small detail, but very hospitality minded. I can identify most of the fish, but I can't tell which is salmon and which is trout! Now I know where to go in UES for a nice sushi Omakase!

We walked in for dinner one night since we were in the neighborhood. The restaurant was cozy and intimate. For appetizer, we got edamame, which you could tell it was of great quality and freshness, but they were too salty. For entree, my husband got the shashimi platter and I got a salmon bowl. I am a big fan of uni. So I also requested a uni sushi. Both entrees were good. The uni sushi, I am not too sure as the color didn’t look fresh and there was an after taste to the uni, which for me, that is definitely another indication. The service was good and price was on the moderate expensive side. Overall, we enjoyed the dinner minus the salty edamame and uni sushi. 3.5 stars ✨

Zawa is a hidden gem and I highly recommend checking them out! Not only do they have amazing service but their food is always incredibly fresh. Tonight we had their sushi for two - it’s not on the menu so ask next time you are there. It’s only on Saturdays and only $89!

The quality and freshness of the sushi blew me away! Came for lunch (they have several lunch specials). Pictured is the sushi lunch special - $25. Worth it. Service and ambiance is lovely as well.

A pleasure to be reminded of the variety of flavors and possibilities beyond sushi. Only 4 stars because my friend found the sushi rice a bit too tangy, but my udon was perfect.

Google
Among the best sushi I’ve had in Manhattan. Definitely a nicer restaurant than many other ‘sushi spots’ in the city. 100% a good place for a special dinner. Very professional waiting staff. They have a good selection of sushi and sashimi dinners, as well as a la carte options and kitchen entrees. I didn’t look too deeply into the wine list, but at a glance it looked good.

I was searching for a Japanese restaurant in the area and I stopped in recently. I enjoyed the chicken udon. The seaweed was also good.

Yelp
Had a great dinner at Sushi Yoshizawa. Had the set menu at the table seat. Delicious sushi. The rice and fish blended together in perfect harmony. Excellent service and attention to detail. Will definitely be back to try the Omakase next time. Truly a hidden gem in the neighborhood and highly recommended!

Yelp
Excellent meal from Chef Yoshizawa. Nice restaurant with ~8 person sushi counter. Every piece of fish was extremely fresh and delicious. Great value for the quality and quantity of the food. Highlights include red snapper, tuna (lean, medium fatty, fatty), cherry salmon, eel, uni (best I've had in a while!). Chef Zawa was extremely kind and engaged in full conversation with us. He's an expert at his craft! We'll be back.

Yelp
Best sushi I ever had in all of Manhattan! Their quality is really unmatched, every piece of sushi melts in your mouth and is served at the perfect temperature. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Incredibly flavorful and very fresh fish! Taste like it was freshly caught, I was impressed by how darn good everything tasted. 100% worth the price for the quality of nigiri and overall meal. Highlights include the uni, which was a creamy briny flavor bomb and the baby squid! The ambiance is such a vibe, nice upscale. Great for date night! I would certainly be back.

Yelp
Zawa Japanese has been reborn as an elevated omakase sushi restaurant. My wife and I are both half-Japanese, grew up in Tokyo and visit Japan regularly because we crave the food and miss our friends. In our opinion, Sushi Yoshizawa is the best value for very good sushi in NYC. We've tried many of the well-known sushi restaurants, but Sushi Yoshizawa is our favorite. One may find better sushi in Manhattan, but it will cost 2 to 5 times more. The decor is simple, intimate, with only 7 counter seats, and comfortable. The owner-chef, Makoto, is friendly, knowledgeable, skilled and professional. Service is warm, welcoming and attentive. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious sushi dinner in Manhattan that doesn't cost a lot, go to Sushi Yoshizawa. My wife is flying to Japan next week where she will be eating every meal out for over a month, but wanted to dine here tonight anyway. We had a delicious dinner and delightful experience. I wanted to post more pictures, but Yelp limited me to 10.

Yelp
Same owner as previously known as Zawa Japanese. Now he is more focused on sushi omakase. Today he served more variety of fish and added appetizers between sushi so my tastebuds didn't have time to get bored Absolutely loved sea urchin from Hokkaido.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant, very lovely chef and ambience. I frequent Omakase spots and this one ranks in the top.

Yelp
A few weeks back, I was craving sushi and wanted to go to our regular haunt, Zawa. But I was utterly gutted to find that they were closed permanently! However, we decidedly to walk over to the restaurant just to check it out and luckily discovered that Zawa was getting revamped as Sushi Yoshizawa. Chef Yoshizawa decided to focus his attention on getting the best ingredients for his sushi & sashimi and it shows. We had the 12 course omakase and most of the fish was flown in from Japan. The cherry salmon, which is only available for 2 months, was refreshingly sweet, almost like a peach. The tiger prawn was succulent and the Hokkaido uni was on par with the freshest uni you get in Japan. The chu toro and otoro were also just the right level of creamy goodness. The sushi is Edomae style, and Chef Yoshizawa lets his ingredients and skills shine through in spades. We had a delightful evening back in the hands of Chef Yoshizawa and will definitely be back for sure! p.s. They also recently added table service (and take out) focusing on sushi and sashimi, in addition to the omakase.

Yelp
There are countless sushi bars in the city but to me nowhere hits close like Home (japan) except Sushi Yoshizawa. Formerly known as Zawa Japanese, sushi chef Makoto delivers the best sushi in town with ease. 8 seat counter with a few table seats, it is very comfortable and the ambiance is very much like a homey traditional sushi bars in Japan. Chef Makoto is extremely knowledgeable with his fish and delivers the finest quality of Edo-mae style sushi. So good that I refuse to eat sushi anywhere else for a couple years now. Highly recommend, 10/10, you will leave content and full. Give it a shot and it just may become your favorite spot for sushi!

Austin S.

Yelp
An easy decision if you live on the UES. You must come to Sushi Yoshizawa and watch Makoto prepare your omakase. Always the highest quality of fish straight from Japan. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great to see this neighborhood spot reopen. The Omakase was superb and the cherry salmon was phenomenal. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Seriously, this the finest sushi on the Upper East Side and you should go now while you can still get in. All fish from Japan - it's just so damn good! Yoshikawa is a master and his omakase is next level. There are a lot of places that charge more for less quality. This guy is the real deal.
