A must eat when at Ise-Shima is Tekone Sushi, which is actually a chirashi don with red fish only. In this case, I had it with bonito at Sushikyu, in Okage Yokocho for 1500 yen.
Tekone Sushi was a flavor bomb, no additional shoyu required. The bonito was already marinated with shoyu and so it tasted salty enough. The slices, fresh, not fishy at all. The red vinegar rice was also more vinegary than usual shari and act as a perfect complement to the very powerful bonito slices. The set also comes with soup and a small side vegetable, but those were pretty much forgettable, just serving as sidekicks to Tekone Sushi.
Overall, a very enjoyable meal. For someone like me who likes bold flavours, the fish and rice were unapologetically savoury and vinegary. I felt for some chirashi dons, it may be over or underseasoned, but here, seasoning was not necessary as the flavours were already bold and marinated.
One thing I would like was some wasabi to cut through especially the fish, as sometimes eating it alone was too salty. I would also like the fish to be a little more fatty.
