Sushimama

Favourite restaurant in Ljubljana. Get the black cod... we have never tried anything like this in our lives. This fish litalerally melts in the mouth. Sushi is also great... but this black cod dish is out of this world. The waiters are very friendly and professional. The main dish takes a bit of time to be ready, so do have patience.

I called the restaurant in advance because I wanted to reserve a table outside on the terrace. However, they informed me that reservations can only be made online and did not accept my booking over the phone, which I found inconvenient and not very guest-friendly. When I arrived without a reservation, I was seated inside instead. On the positive side, the food was as tasty as always, and the wine selection by the glass was also very good.

Food was incredible, especially the flour they use for shrimp tempura was so special. Service was very average, with everything was set at a luxury level, and predefined tips % at payment, this is quite disappointed.

Honestly, we expected more. The restaurant didn’t feel much different from typical sushi bars around the world. On the positive side, a good selection of quality raw fish. The California roll with real crab was fine, but nothing special. We also enjoyed the miso soup with crab, the broth was excellent. The hot yellowtail dish came with too much salty sauce, and we ended up scraping it off to eat the fish. The high price point did not feel justified for us.

We had tempura udon, teriyaki chicken with mango, california and alaska roll. The soup for udon is magnificent, it’s rich and tasty without MSG. The tempura chicken is also super tasty! Mango is super sweet and soft and the chicken skin is crispy. Ginger tea has strong ginger in it. Last but the least, the service is great. Our waiter is attentive and considerate. 10/10

The place was nice, clean, and relaxing. Aside from “westernized” selection such as the boston roll, the sushi is what you can typically expect from sushi places in Japan. I got the nami and my husband got the jou. The portions were just enough for lunch. The picture attached is the nami but swapped the mackerel and octopus with my husband’s ama ebi and hotate. The miso soup with crab was also ok, contains real crab meat as well.

The atmosphere in this restaurant is unlike any other. Everything in the decor makes sense and creates a calm environment that makes for a good conversation place. I love it. I ordered the salmon and tuna sashimi. I also had a picture of some sushi I ate in Belgrade but had no idea what it was. The waiter and chef were happy to help and took time to figure out what it was. The service is impeccable, the waiter was attentive and the food came out in less than 20 minutes. And it was insanely delicious! The fish practically melted in my mouth. Would definitely recommend!

A perfect experience. The staff were friendly, fun and welcoming, the food and wine was really excellent. We were a family of 4 with 2 children and everyone found something they liked on the menu. A Michelin star restaurant but the prices were very reasonable,, the same as a standard restaurant in France. A special mention for our waiter Marco who made our evening very memorable!
