The Best Downtown Dallas Restaurants

"This tucked-away Downtown sushi bar enjoyed Internet fame after the grandson of Kang Lee, who’s worked at the restaurant for nearly 15 years, made a TikTok video about the restaurant. That fandom aside, the gem offers a respite from the noisy city with quality sushi and a comfortable atmosphere." - Courtney E. Smith

Haven’t been here in a few years, but still tastes great! Should come here since I literally live across the street, but they have an amazing choice of selections. I kept it cool this time around and only got shrimp shumai and cooked sushi rolls, but highly recommend their sashimi! Pro tip for drinkers: come in with an empty stomach and start off with a small beer (+shots if feeling extra) - food tastes 🔥

Google
Nice freshly made rolls. I'd give them 5 stars if not for that awful nonstop 60s and 70s rock pop blasting away. How you'd like to hear McCartney and CCR for the 100th millionth time while trying to enjoy your meal?

Google
WOW! What a hidden gem! Everything was fresh and amazing. The service was quick, and the vibe was chill. The sushi is made fresh right in the center of the restaurant, and the happy hour drinks pair perfectly! Try the AT&T Edamame!!

I arrived right at closing and the staff did not turn me away... Instead they invited me in and handed me a menu and were willing to stay open if I was dining in. I decided to take my meal to go. The chef did not mind making me the special roll I requested and everyone thanked me with a smile as I left. Thank for the wonderful customer service and amazing fried rice. Ill be back!

Had another great experience at Sushiya. This Japanese spot in downtown Dallas is a go-to lunch favorite. The bento box is super filling, a total steal for the price, and the pork tonkatsu is so crispy and delicious. Everyone there is friendly, providing top-notch service! Perfect spot for a quick, quality lunch break if you work nearby.

Google
Very friendly staff, great music all evening and the biggest portion of fried rice I've had in my life. Might be better to do some food sharing over here instead of ordering separate mails since the portions are really large! Will be coming back for more!

If you’re visiting Dallas with limited time, eat BBQ and Sushiya, PERIOD! This restaurant is owned by an incredibly amicable owner (Terri), who frequently checked on our table. Additionally our waitress (Elli) was knowledgeable and made impeccable recommendations. So were several sentences in and haven’t even gotten to the food yet. The appetizers are bomb, literally, order the jalapeno bomb or avocado bomb. And when it comes to the best sushi in Dallas, I’m gonna let the pictures take over from here…

Google
It was honestly the best sushi I've had in the states. Service was prompt and wonderful, and everything was perfect. My family just happened to stumble upon it on our Dallas trip and we felt so blessed! Definitely will revisit every time I come back to Dallas.

Yelp
Loved this place! They have wonderful and friendly employees, everyone one of them so so kind. Food tasted really good even took some to go! Vibe is great the atmosphere is so welcoming. The Manager, Terry, is one of the nicest people ive met!

Yelp
My new favorite sushi restaurant in Dallas! Impeccable quality sushi, beyond delicious and warm client experience!

Yelp
OMG! I am writing this review as I sit here! This place is easily one of my new favorite spots here in Dallas :) Just came here with my friend for dinner, the decor is so homey and the workers are definitely the best part of it! They're super funny and super kind. Not only this but we ordered quite a bit of food and everything was super delicious:) definitely coming again!

Yelp
Great sushi in downtown Dallas! My husband introduced me to this place after he fell in love with their "Tuna Lover" lunch special. I can agree it's a great deal for the quality and quantity of tuna they give you ($17). When i want something a little different, I get the tower. It's a lot of food! Make sure to mix it together to get the perfect combo of creamy, crunchy deliciousness. Every time I've been (lunch) it's busy. Because the hours cater to the local business professionals, if you're coming on the weekend or not during lunch hours make sure they are open before coming.

Yelp
This review is for January 23rd, '24. I went to have lunch with a friend. I've always noticed this place, but have never bothered to try it. I wanted a Mai Tai, but i the nice guy assisting house informed me that they did not have all of their ingredients which was disappointing. My friend suggested I order a Tokyo Tea, and it was honestly very delicious. I was hungry, but not that hungry so I orders as California roll and a spicy tuna roll. Honestly after finishing my meal, I could have ordered more food because I did actually indeed feel incomplete and not full after my meal. The staff were very nice, and the vibe for this small quaint place was actually very nice. I'll return.

Yelp
Louisiana roll, combo fried rice. Thank me later. Ducked off location with a cool ambiance

Yelp
It's definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Amid the looming concrete buildings of downtown, it's easy to miss this restaurant, which is at the bottom level of a parking structure. Inside, it feels pretty warm and homey. I could tell that there were some regulars here. One large extended family of regulars was occupying both sides of the sushi bar (it's a square in the middle, but the seating is only on two adjoining sides). It was very noisy! I could hear basically everything they were saying, and it kind of ruined the vibe. But it's not the restaurant's fault, and I didn't expect them to try to quiet them down or anything. The family shouldn't have been shouting (kids can't help it, but adults can). I sat at the bar, being on a solo trip, and they were very attentive and friendly! I got a mai tai to drink, and it was deliciously fruity, as those often are. My sushi rolls were delicious - the spicy tuna featured on one tasted fresh. Their menu isn't super extensive, but there are a lot of options all the same, and restaurants with enormous menus often are more uneven in execution (and might have more ingredients prepped that are past prime time as menu variety expands).

Yelp
Very relaxed atmosphere. Greeted as soon as we walked in the front door and seated right away. The server was very easy to talk to and our sushi came out very quick considering how busy they were at lunch time. Both of our sushi's were fantastic! I had the dragon roll and my son had the spider roll. We demolished them!

Leticia G.

Yelp
Wow... few words come to mind when describing my experience at THE Sushiya! From the moment I walked in to the moment I stepped back out; excellent service left and right. Every expectation immediately superseded. Food was amazing! Don't even let me get started about the ambiance.. how wonderful. Feel free to reach out personally for a detailed review.

Yelp
My hubby and I came here on our very first weekend away together almost 10 years ago. It was my first real sushi and he fell in love with the chicken fried rice. Nothing has compared for him since! We finally got to come back last month at it was just as delicious! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Love this place been going for years!!!! The food is great and its easy because we live downtown. Service is always great as well.
google avatar

Beau H.

Yelp
Very good quality sushi - authentic on every level - there is no happy hour but the prices are great for the quaity you get! Thank you for emulating this sushi - I felt like I was back in Tokyo!
google avatar

Alexa C.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I hadn't gone because the outside looks unassuming and you just can't trust a lot of downtown eateries. I went and they have the best fried rice! It's so good I haven't tried anything else, personally. But I do plan on trying the noodles. My husband has had the sushi and being that he's picky, he said it was good. There are only a few dedicated people that work there and support the owner, that says a lot about ownership. They are very friendly. It's on my regular rotation until I move.

Tim P.

Yelp
Best sushi spot in town - super fresh and delicious - excellent service - owner makes you feel at home and special - not to be missed sushi venue downtown.
google avatar

Yelp
This little hole in the wall was such a pleasant surprise. The food was amazing and so was the service. A must try when In Dallas

Yelp
We thought we'd give this place a try on our visit to downtown. We ate early and really enjoyed the calamari and 4 rolls. The house wine was pretty good! The service was polite, quick and attentive. We appreciated the cleanliness and attention to detail. We would go again for the above average sushi.

Yelp
I found a sushi replacement . thank goodness because i love sushi. have been a couple of times and both times - melt in yr mouth sushi for what i tried. Also, the restaurant lighting is soft/ halfway. love that; chance to chill at the bar after work. the sushi pieces were larger than yr typical sashimi which i was happy about. good sake as well to include junmai. overall i have found a new sushi home.
google avatar

Yelp
Good service and sushi. Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Lunch specials are a great deal here!

Kari P.

Yelp
My daughter and I visited this place one evening for a to go order. We got fried rice, and it was amazing. Great service and the food was great as well! Thank you!

Jan P.

Yelp
First time here for dinner tonight. Won't be our last! Great sushi. Super fresh fish, beautifully presented. Generous portions! You must try the Salmon Lovers dinner. They have the most unique sauce that compliments the salmon perfectly! Perfect for a date night, dinner with friends, or a group.

Yelp
Sushi was absolutely phenomenal. Terry our sushi chef was absolutely dynamite with the knife. Good food even better company. Pookie really outdid himself!

Amanda A.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing - from the service, quality of the food, location. My boyfriend and I love trying new places and new foods together, and we were given exceptional recommendations. The Toro and avocado bomb are a must. Terry is the BEST - we experienced Soju with him for our first! Definitely worth the visit - cozy, quaint, and yummy! 10/10

Yelp
Ordered take out for dinner. I ordered Bento #2 with tonkatsu. It was a more americanized Japanese spot. Food was decent but the variety of food included in the bento box was worth it. I enjoyed the tempura the most because they fried it well.

Robert H.

Yelp
Great sushi ,quick service with a laid back atmosphere. 60's 70's playlist not pretentious or trendy. No valet parking lol I'll get a picture next time
google avatar

Ray H.

Yelp
I moved downtown a couple of months ago and I've become obsessed with this place! It's both quality food and affordable for downtown. After a couple of visits, the staff remembered my usual order. They close at 8pm, however, they'll take orders up until then. Full bar too!
google avatar

Anastasiya T.

Yelp
Love it! Honestly in my opinion the best sushi place downtown Dallas. It's a family owned business so it has very pleasant comfy atmosphere, service is great, food delicious! Must try if you're a sushi lover
google avatar

Yelp
Was good didn't have much but it was nice for a quick bite to eat if you like sushi. Had a nice bar area a few tv's

Noah D.

Yelp
I wish I hadn't forgotten to get a photo of the food, but this place is really fantastic! I went during a slow Friday, and Sal, my main server, was nothing short of outstanding when offering drinks and giving me recommendations. The iced green tea I got was perfect for a muggy day. I got the Kobe lunch special plate, which was chefs choice 8 piece nigiri with a spicy tuna roll, and man was it amazing! The chef, Terry, informed me he had moved here from Houston by way of San Francisco, and he really knew his stuff! Each nigiri (salmon, tuna, red snapper, and white tuna was flavored with house made sauces, which were truly amazing - the apple and onion mayo on the tuna and the chili on the white tuna really made the flavors pop - the wasabi based one on the salmon had a great kick! The interior is relaxed and inviting, and as mentioned before the service is impeccable. Highly recommend to anyone looking to sate their sushi craving in downtown Dallas.

Yelp
So fresh. Sat at the Bar. Perfect. Great experience. The fish wash fresh and the rice was spot on. Tery,. The new manager is awesome.

Yelp
Nice location in downtown. It is quite, clean, and cozy. The food had good taste with generous portion. It is priced reasonably too. In particular, the spicy seafood noodle soup was fantastic. However, the service was slow. We had to wait for a long time to place order and wait again for our food to be prepared.

Justin B.

Yelp
Fantastic service and even better food. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant

Lynn M.

Yelp
Visited Dallas last year for a trip. Wandering around in the sweltering heat for a bite to eat, and I find this place. I loved the chill ambiance, the almost open kitchen, and the food. That food was to die for. Sometimes I still think back to that place when I'm hungry, make of that what you will. Would I go back to the heatwave hell that is Dallas just to take another bite of their udon? Of their sushi rolls?? Is Sushiya actually to DIE for? Yes. 10/10.
google avatar

Abby P.

Yelp
Amazing food and very affordable! Literally so good. Give it a try if you're visiting Dallasz

Denise S.

Yelp
If I could give Sushi Ya 10 stars, I would. Anthony, our favorite server, has treated us like royalty over the 3.5 years we've been going there. Terry, the best sushi chef in Dallas, and Auntie Kim, Adelyn, and Mr. Kim are top-notch sushi heroes. As for the food: OMGosh....the food is always FRESH, gluten-free for me, creative, artistic, and DELICIOUS.
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Had to come visit after the @andrewkim TikTok vid. Aside from the sushi the fried rice and seafood noodle soup is comfort food. Good times!
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
I would eat here again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to seek it. The food was good, as was the service. Maybe it's just me, but I think the reviews have this rated higher than I personally do? I'd probably look for something different if I were in the area again?

Yelp
0 STARS. I HAVE BEEN COMING HERE FOR YEARS. 10+. ME AND A FRIEND ORDERED TAKEOUT, I GOT RICE AND MY FRIEND GOT EGGROLLS BUT CHANGED HER MIND ON HER ORDER, AND DECIDED NOT TO GET THE EGGROLLS. I WENT IN TO GET THE FOOD AND TOLD THEM THAT I NEEDED TO CHANGE MY TICKET.... THE "Manager" OR WHOEVER TOLD ME "YOU THINK WE JUST MADE FOOD FOR NOTHING?" and continued to tell me that I had to pay for the eggrolls even if I didn't want them.... I have never ever in my life experienced such treatment anywhere... And I have been able to change my mind and there be no problems.. We're all human. It was really sad to get discriminated and treated horrible in front of everyone. I loved this place. I never leave reviews but this encounter today completely shocked me. The manager discriminated me for no reason. And I have everything on video. I come there all the time and have never seen him before. Whoever owns this place needs to get in contact with me ASAP before I handle it myself.

Yelp
The lunch special was amazing! My boyfriend got chicken katsu and I ordered a dragonfly roll! It was so tasty. We had been looking for a bomb sushi spot in Dallas but everything was open after 5 pm. This spot won't let you down. The service was really quick and the food was delicious. The spicy tuna tastes so fresh I honestly had no complaints at all. My bf said the chicken katsu sauce reminded him of a certain sauce his dad would cook with so he instantly loved it !
google avatar

Yelp
Food is fresh, flavorful, and huge portions! For the amount of food given the prices are so good! If your into meal prepping, this is a go to bec the portions are so huge! Love all the appetizers and the service is fast and friendly. So glad I live close by, will be back!

Yelp
I'm not the biggest fan of sushi but I love teriyaki and I'm always willing to try new foods and restaurants. Sushiya is a nice and small family owned food business in downtown Dallas. To start I ordered the shrimp tempura which was nicely breaded and delicious. For my main course I ordered the chicken teriyaki meal that came with rice and steamed veggies. The good is good and it was a relaxing and quiet place to have a little last minute girls lunch in the middle of the week.
google avatar

Kevin Z.

Yelp
What a great find in downtown Dallas! Not far from our hotel, less than 10 minutes. Popped in for dinner last night and we were quickly sat. Lots of seating, including seats at a bar, seats at a sushi bar, as well as booths and other seating. Staff was very friendly and attentive. While we were there, we saw some regulars dining. That's always good to see, repeat business and the happiness of customers. Everything we ordered was tasty and fresh. The chicken teriyaki plate we ordered came with lots of chicken. We left with happy bellies. Sushi? SUSHI-YA!
google avatar

Keidra M.

Yelp
Finally tried this place for lunch. California rolls and miso soup were excellent. There are a few things on the menu I want to try, so I'll be back!
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
The food was tasty, but the sushi roll portion was pretty small. I wished I had ordered an additional appetizer or maybe even a second roll. We were in town for a business convention, so the place was pretty busy when we were there. I think they may have been a bit understaffed, which resulted in the hostess/chef/waitress being overworked. Overall, service was ok, but the food was definitely good! Not sure if we'd come back.

Fact S.

Yelp
Was deciding between this or an other sushi styled restaurant near this locale that's more "upscale". Glad I chose this one. Offers all the limited options from the other restaurant's menu in addition to more Japanese food options at an affordable price. The Sake and cocktails were very good and refreshing while not being too expensive. Sushiya is small but the ambience and service are great. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any Japanese cuisine enthusiasts that's visiting Dallas.

Alex H.

Yelp
Amazing service, great food and value! We will definitely be going more frequently as this is a true hidden gem downtown.
google avatar

Jessie R.

Yelp
So delicious and fresh! We were in Dallas for a few days and tried this place for dinner. Cozy and clean, and the food was so good. My boyfriend ordered a bento box and it was the biggest I've ever seen. I got sushi and loved it all.
google avatar

Troy H.

Yelp
This is the best kept sushi place in dallas. Across from the national building on elm Worth any and all coconuts.

Rosalynda L.

Yelp
Saw this article about a boy who shared a tik toc video about his grandparents restaurant so we decided to give it a try. I LOVE this place! My fiancé and I started with some Goyza. I wanted to order another plate but decided to wait for our other food...it was so yummmy! Second course we shared a small chicken fried rice. The portion size was awesome! And the fried rice itself was flavorful. Finally I had a rainbow roll and my fiancé had a tornado...FRESH and delicious! They also have a full bar so it perfect for a date night This is going to be our go to place when we crave sushi. Support local businesses!!!
