"It’s the summer of strawberries. Stop in until July 30 to try the strawberry lemonade cupcake, which is a vanilla cupcake baked with fresh strawberries inside that is filled and frosted with buttercream. Or from July 31 to September 4 score the strawberry rosé cupcake, which has pink champagne vanilla batter with fresh strawberries folded in that gets frosted with pink champagne buttercream, and sprinkled with white sanding sugar." - Courtney E. Yelp
I LOVE SusieCakes celebration cake!! (and it is taller than the other cakes, so really it is the best value - all slices being the same price.) NOTE this place does NOT accept cash. If you have the SusieCakes app on your phone (and you should, if you like cake) b/c they give you a free slice for your birthday (good the entire month of your birthday, which gives you plenty of time to redeem). I usually redeem this at my local Laurel Heights location in SF. But I was in Texas this June, there is only one location in Dallas. To make the trip all the way downtown not just for one thing, we found a place for lunch around the corner and then went to pick up my free slice. If you are there and served by the sweetest counter gal named Naybi count yourself lucky, she was a doll and hooked me up with a huge piece of cake and even a free cookie (I wanted to pay cash for the cookie, but she said she would just give it to me since they don;t accept cash, I can't guarantee that will happen to you - but I don't think this is my first free cookie there either.) Naybi just the best energy and so nice (and very "on brand" for the happiness that should be involved for a cake store). Apparently my phone number was not attached to my app info, and she helped me connect the two so that I would be easier to look up in the system moving forward. SusieCakes is a rare breed of great quality products and fantastic customer service. LOVE!

Yelp
If it weren't for the extra friendly and super helpful sweet staff, I would have given this review probably 1 obligatory star. I would have to say that at approximately $8 for a slice of cake that was soooooo incredibly dry was a bit more than insulting. They claim to be made daily but I truly feel lied to. We got several slices of different cakes and each were all terribly stale and dry, so it was not just one that may have been off. The branding and packaging are nice, but I'd prefer a delicious and moist quality cake over an instagram ready marketing cake any day. When Whole Foods can serve a far more superior cake that comes in frozen better and way less expensive than Susie Cakes, that is such a shame. Won't be back no matter how good it looks from the outside. To me, what counts is the actual product being fresh. Ps. I noticed that several people have complained about the same thing and the owner gives the same standard excuse and blames her staff, but this leads me to believe that not only does she already know about this, but might even encourage them to overlook it as to avoid food costs being lost at the clients expense. You lose trust in your brand credibility and no one needs an excuse afterwards thank you.

Yelp
My sweet tooth appreciates anything from SusieCakes! You can always expect a rich, flavorful baked good from them. I don't even have a favorite because everything I've ever gotten has been so good.

Yelp
Second visit provided a much better experience. This time, the Apple Crumble Pie. It was delicious... especially when heated at 350-degrees for 15 minutes! As before, the folks behind the counter were pleasant and helpful. Atmosphere is nice, bright and clean. The ONLY thing keeping this experience from being a five star was the price. $42.95 for a pie seems a bit high. ONLY because of that, this would not be my "go to" unless it was an extra special occasion. JudyPie in downtown Grapevine for instance advertises pies for $17. I've had theirs and they are equally as good and the folks are just as nice. I'd be curious to understand what, besides possible rent costs, justifies 2.5 times the cost at a chain bakery vs a one-of-a-kind, family owned business. But definitely a much better experience than the first visit with dry cake!

Yelp
Staff was super nice! The shop is clean, bright and inviting. Cakes & cookies, not a full blown bakery for ALL your dessert cravings. The lemon flavor in the cake and the icing were not strong at all. It was more of a vanilla cake with yellow icing. The cookie may have been one of the best I've ever had!

Martha G.

Yelp
Came back for another chocolate cupcake and left with that and a Strawberry Rose (flavor of the month). So good. This place never disappoints. They taste like they're made with love :)

Nisha R.

Yelp
I ordered HALLOWEEN cupcakes for me and my friends. I was planning a spooky happy hour event. I placed the order online. The process was easy and user friendly. I went to pick up them and they were so cute. At happy hour I surprised each guest with a cupcake. They were yummy and scrumptious. I was happy with the taste, texture and presentation. My friends loved them. I have to knock a star off because the ghost had a little lean. I think the icing was to heavy. Otherwise they were perfect and delicious. I am very HAPPY and will purchase more cake or cupcakes in the future. I added on a few trick or treat cupcakes. Everyone seems to love the red velvet so I had to make sure I had enough.

Yelp
The 4 stars is only because I waited through the pandemic for the molasses cookies to return and to date I haven't been able to get one. The best molasses cookie I've had. Other than that I love their huge slices of cake. My favorite is the berry and cream but today I got a slice of celebration, red velvet, carrot, and two whiskey cupcakes. Another thing I appreciate is the frosting. It's always creamy with the right sugar level. I've only tried the carrot cake so far and the spices are so pronounced. It chalked full of nuts and raisins and shreds of carrots. Even though it's carrot it strongly reminds me of an Italian cream cake and I ain't mad at that.

Wendy C.

Yelp
Birthdays, special graduation cakes are all required from Susie Cales. We loved the Rose-Strawberry and Chocolate! We find having them a couple days later is just as good. Yes, we will be back.

Pamela H.

Yelp
Thirty minutes to close on a Sunday, I called and inquired if they had carrot cake. The lively lady said they had a 6" cake and what did I want written on it. I told her what I wanted and she said it would be ready when I got there. Twenty minutes later, I walked in and my cake was waiting and ready to box up. I even received a free mini cake cutter magnet for my daughter too. We love carrot cake and this one has large walnut pieces and lots of raisins. The cake was moist and the frosting had the right amount of thickness and sweetness. The cake was delish and we enjoyed celebrating.

Juan C.

Yelp
Awesome and personable service but the baked goods were very disappointing. The cupcakes had a very dry texture and the flavor was not very good.

Lisa A.

Yelp
I have been to Susie a time or two, and always so DELISH! BUT this time ......I took a few bites and put it up. When I returned the cake was HARD. My friend ordered the Lemon and from the get go hers was dry. I'm very sad. This was my go to when I wanted cake (regardless of how expensive they are.)

Oliver J.

Yelp
The place was so cute and reminds me of a bakery in my hometown. The workers was really nice and helpful . The cake I got was really good and big for 7.95 . I could barely finish it and I usually eat a lot.

Frank S.

Yelp
We ordered a 9" Celebration cake from here for a birthday and it was a big hit with everyone at the party. And wow, do you get a lot of cake. It may be 9" wide but it's probably 12" tall. The 6" cake would have been plenty as there was a lot of cake left over. Next time 6" for sure. They also have a friendly staff that loves working there. We'll come back to try some of their other cake flavors for sure!

Brandi M.

Yelp
The Tropical Pineapple Cake is so good I'd consider selling my soul for it! I've never had a pineapple cake slice this good! I'm scared!

Lakisha L.

Yelp
cake was dry really dry like if it was there for a week it had good flavor but so dry i was hoping to love it and try more flavors but in my opinion the cakes are not fresh how they say .

Destiny R.

Yelp
absolutely nothing special about their cakes. very dry and stale tasting. very disappointed.

Lauren C.

Yelp
Okay the cakes here are REALLY GOOD! Came here for my bday to spoil myself with a couple of good slices. It was quite a drive since they closed the locations that were close to me but it was worth it! I got a slice of Celebration and a slice of Lemon. They were both delicious! The atmosphere here is so cheery and bright makes you feel good about buying all the cake! Lol Looking forward to my next visit here to try more of their wonderful cakes

Yelp
I can now officially do my review. I have gone into this place twice so far. Need to add my second check in but anyway. The selection is always there and they have good varieties from whole cakes, cake slices, cookies, cupcakes and even candles and cake serving tools. Close to businesses for last min treat pick ups. The cakes are moist and soft and sweet. The marble cake from my second trip was overly sweet for me and therefore I have to eat it in small increments. Which is fine but the flavor and taste is sooooo good. The birthday cake slice has been purchased twice by me. The lemon cake is yummy. Lemon is my mom's jam but she wanted an actual lemon cake. Not a vanilla cake with lemon icing or center. But she said it was delicious nonetheless. She enjoyed the bit of a chocolate chip cookie I purchased on my second trip in. I will be pre ordering a cake for a birthday so i will update my review on the pre order process for cakes. There isn't much ambiance as its a bakery but the displays are always clean and everything is visible and labeled. There isn't clutter or unnecessary stuff out and about. They work pretty fast when there are a few people in there to order. The prices are reasonable for a place near park cities/highland park and that area. Definitely check them out when you want a sweet treat or a celebration dessert.

Ashley W.

Yelp
The marble cake was absolutely perfect. The chocolate chips are a great touch with the fluffy and moist cake. I was gifted this cake for my birthday and can't wait to try more flavors!

Sarah M.

Yelp
got the cake home and the OU logo faces one way and the writing on the cake face the other way. I am so annoyed and can't even understand how this could happen. I tried calling but have now been on hold for like 20 minutes and we really don't have time to get it fixed so we will just go with it. I am sure it will taste great but we paid a lot of money for this ridiculous cake! very annoying.

Kara L.

Yelp
Their tropical coconut cake has so much flavor, very moist. My husband said it's the best coconut cake he's ever had. I had a slice of the marble cake and it was very delicious. Their buttercream taste very good. Will definitely go again for the cakes. Would like to try some other flavors since that was our first time going there

Sue W.

Yelp
After reading the reviews I was glad to be able to try the cupcakes. Unfortunately we were not impressed with the red celvet (dry), pumpkin spice latte (dry and all latte, no pumpkin spice) and the icing was gritty and under mixed. I much prefer the NBC competitor.

Alice h.

Yelp
Moist cupcakes, friendly service. It was a little pricey but worth it for a nice treat.

Jessica Z.

Yelp
SusieCakes!!! These cakes (and cookies) are incredible! Specifically the celebration cake is absolutely amazing. The ratio of that delicious homemade frosting to the moist confetti cake layers is perfect. I love stopping by for a slice anytime I'm nearby (or even when I'm not haha). I definitely want to try more of their cake flavors, but once I find a flavor I love, it's hard to resist going back to my favorite. Every time I come here the employees are so nice and friendly. Sometimes there's a line, but it always moves quickly. Fortunately there's ample parking in this shopping center and a nearby garage if you're coming in on a busy day. This is definitely my favorite cake in Dallas, and will be my go-to for birthdays and celebrations.

Kristel M.

Yelp
I've gotten from them from a different location and wasn't impressed but that was a couple years ago and I had hoped maybe things improved since then. Nope. Let me say this- their strawberry frosting is the best I've ever had. Their vanilla cake is the worst I've ever had. It's like eating a dry sponge (no, not sponge cake, the kind of sponge you have in your sink) it's so dry and dense. Brings new meaning to "got milk?" More like NEEEEED milk! The cake slices don't refrigerate well at all. They turn to dry bricks and are inedible. 4 cupcakes and 2 slices cost me nearly $40. That's insane! Especially for such a horrible product. What blew my mind though was the number of customers they had considering how horrible the stuff was. Please- don't waste your money or your calories. Go get something that's worth those things.

Tandra M.

Yelp
Love love love! This place needs no review. You just have to go and get a slice of each, if not ordering a whole cake, which I recommend! You'll choose your fav

Yelp
SusieCakes won me over today! We had a choice to make. My husband wanted to stop here but I wanted a Sprinkles cupcake. So we did both. We bought a piece of Susie's Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake. Then we drove across the street to Sprinkles and bought a Snowflake Vanilla Cupcake. As we both opened our boxes, it was obvious that my husband got a lot more for the money. But I truly believed my Sprinkles cupcake would win for taste. Instead, it was hard and crumbly with the consistency of cornbread. It was very stale and such a disappointment. I watched my husband eat his first bite of Susie's Chocolate Cake with a huge smile. Thankfully he shared with me and we both agreed that it was the best piece of chocolate cake that either of us had ever tasted. Take a look at my photo for the comparison in price. And you'll just have to trust us on the taste test. The winner is absolutely SusieCakes! It deserves all 5 stars.

Mary W.

Yelp
Customer service is the mark of a five star establishment. I received the best service and oh so good cupcakes from Susie Cakes' staff and they were super quick. Last but certainly not least, the red velvet cupcake was so good. I definitely recommend you drop by and buy cupcakes for yourself, and your family and friends. Remember to bring your mask and your credit card as they are not taking cash right now. You'll thank me later.

George D.

Yelp
Have done multiple cakes for my girlfriend and sisters birthday. Amazing presentation and taste.

Sam H.

Yelp
Susie cakes has been by far the most consistent of any patisserie ever. Some of the most impecable service and food i have ever received time and time again. Highly recommend!! Xayden is the most awesome guy ever!

CR J.

Yelp
SusiesCakes is great! I was able to walk in and get my cake with no hassle at all. They have a great selection of ready made cakes if you're in a rush. They also do awesome custom cakes with at least 72 hours notice. They offer SIX ready made flavors: Vanilla Celebration (vanilla frosting) Old-Fashioned 6 Layer Chocolate (dark chocolate buttercream frosting) Southern Red Velvet (cream cheese frosting) Carrot Cake (cream cheese frosting) Classic Marble (vanilla and chocolate buttercreams) Tropical Coconut (coconut buttercream and shredded coconut). Their most popular flavor is Vanilla Celebration which is perfect for any occasion! 6-layers of vanilla cake baked with colorful sugar confetti, filled & frosted with their signature retro-blue vanilla frosting. I've had this cake a couple of times now and it's always a crowd-favorite. Can't go wrong. It'll set you back $38 for the smaller size cake- they say up to 12 servings, but we cut our pieces thin and were able to get over 15 servings and everyone was still satisfied (6 layers!). If you want them to write something on it, that's an additional $3, and they'll also add a few sprinkles- on the top only as the premade cakes are chilled already and sprinkles won't stick to the sides (all the more reason to PRE-ORDER!). They also sell cute candles, but they were $4.50 each. Way to expensive, but definitely fancy looking and perfect with the cake. Some gluten free products like a Flourless Chocolate cake (pre-order), flourless chocolate cupcakes (ready made), and flourless peanut butter cookie (ready made). So on top of their cakes, they also have an impressive assortment of cupcakes, cookies & bars, and pies & puddings. Located on the corner of Luther Lane and Westchester Dr. near the Preston Center shopping center at the intersection of Preston and Northwest Highway off the Dallas North Tollway. They are conveniently located across from Hopdoddy and a free parking garage so there's plenty of parking! Definitely will come back!

Wendy M.

Yelp
Susie Cakes is our favorite! The marble cake is the best in town. We also love the cupcakes and the nice pocket of frosting in the middle! Make sure to grab a whoopie pie when they're available. Important to note they have the sweetest staff ever! Aimee (I think? Also sorry if misspelled) kindly opened the doors for us when we arrived shortly after closing. Saved me from a 4 year-olds meltdown and I am forever indebted!

Erin H.

Yelp
I came by late in the evening as I've always Heard great reviews and found myself in front of the shop after seeing a movie nearby. They were extremely hospitable!! I would go in just to say hi. The cupcakes and cakes on display were absolutely beautiful. I tried the lemon cupcake and the mocha. Both were frosting filled. You could see the lemon zest in the frosting of the lemon flavor. My only detractor was the cake portion was a little bit dry.

Tashi N.

Yelp
I have bought several cakes, cupcakes and treats from susiecakes over the years, always been great, specifically the celebration or strawberry. This is the first time the HIGH PRICE point was NOT JUSTIFIED. The cake was SOOOOO DRY. Not only that, it DID NOT TASTE GOOD. This cake is going to go UNEATEN, as my son was not impressed either, this was for his birthday and he didn't even want to eat the cake. mom fail. :( I'm VERY disappointed. Should of just gone to Tom Thumb.

Shea S.

Yelp
Ordered the old fashioned chocolate slice of cake and a red velvet cupcake. The chocolate cake was a 6 layer wedge of super moist & super rich sin. It was almost too sweet and very much in need of a tall glass of ice cold milk. The chocolate buttercreme was smooth and creamy but there was no buttery taste. At $6 and some change, there is plenty for 2 people to enjoy. The red velvet cupcake was a standard size in a paper liner with cream cheese frosting smeared on top for $3.50. It was just so so. I've def had better. It wasn't as wet as the chocolate cake but it was moist and fresh. Overall, have a glass of milk to wash all that chocolate down. Consider yourself warned.

Sandra C.

Yelp
Their workers/employees are so kind first of all. Second there are many different kinds of flavors. I recommend the red velvet, carrot, and lemon but that's just my thought of the ones I tried.

Kay W.

Yelp
I shipped a chocolate BDay cake to my son who just moved out of state. Order delivered the day requested. Cake was perfect. So excited I was able to remind him how much we love him and a taste of home.

Eric C.

Yelp
Harsh score first time around over 6 years ago. Although not my favorite, definitely a good spot for cookies, cupcakes and cakes.

Just K.

Yelp
Cake was amazing. Cupcakes & cookie wasn't nearly as impressive. Seemed a little on the pricey side

Uyen V.

Yelp
I'm always greeted kindly and their customer service is amazing! They have a great variety of cupcakes & cakes. The red velvet is a must try!

Sunny K.

Yelp
If you love cake like me, go to this bakery! I got some type of coconut pineapple cake. It was very soft and flavorful. I also appreciate the ambience of the bakery. It's cute. You can see the bakers making treats through a big glass window. The customer service was not bad but it wasn't great. The main reason I'm giving them 4 instead of 5 stars is because of their outrageous price for a piece of cake. I'm aware that most bakeries are overpriced but this place...golly! When the cashier told me my total I assumed she put a quarter of the cake in my box! It's cool, I kept my composure. Thank God I rarely check prices when I go to bakeries otherwise I would not have tasted the deliciousness of SusieCakes. I won't be back until I start making more money or I get a sugar daddy. Until then, I'll just be thinking of the precious memory of that overpriced piece of cake.

Greg A.

Yelp
These are probably the best cupcakes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. They're much better than sprinkles which the cake tends to be very dry and the rest of them of the other cupcake vendors tend to be very sweet or very dry. I had the lemon cupcake which had just to the right amount of Lemon, the cake part was amazing. I've had the coconut cupcake which was out of this world as well as the red velvet cupcake. Well done Susie cakes!

Anne S.

Yelp
Whoa. First of all, $51 (before tax) for a 9" cake? This chain has targeted ritzy neighborhoods in California and Texas, and I guess they gotta pay the rent somehow, but still...I'd rather buy a cake where the money goes more toward the cake ingredients/quality than the storefront. (I know plenty of places where you can do this in Dallas and get completely ridiculously delicious 9" cakes for way less than $51 plus tax.) Well, anyway, my friend requested the "vanilla celebration cake" for her birthday, so being a good friend, I ordered one and ended up having a slice. It was okay, but pretty dense and heavy (like...minimal crumbs dense), and without much if any detectable flavor. I actually polled a few people to see if they could guess the flavor, since it had been billed as a "gourmet" Funfetti cake...most people just said, "Uh, Funfetti?" and agreed it essentially a bland, dense vanilla cake with melted spots of food coloring. The icing was a step up from the cake itself but still lacked any "wow" factor. It's a decent cake, but defffffinitely not worth the price. Don't buy the hype.

Yum H.

Yelp
Very last minute I needed a custom funfetti birthday cake made for my little sister's birthday .I went to the Luther Ln location hoping they might be able to help me. Meghan, was so courteous, professional, and patient with me I was unsure of what to expect at first and was admittedly nervous about the final product with the so many ideas, requests and pictures I gave to Meghan days before. She assured me everything would be fine, and in truly upstanding fashion, they delivered!! The cake was sooooo beautiful from the outside to how pretty it was when she cut it. It exceeded my every expectation - taste, decoration, and candles EVERYTHING about it was perfect. My sister was not only surprised that I was able to have her cake made in time and that it was exactly what she wanted. Everyone was so blown away. Thank you for making her birthday a beautiful and memorable day!! . I highly recommend this bakery! I can't say enough wonderful things about the staff and how delicious everything is..

Maram M.

Yelp
Yummmmmmm the coconut pineapple is to die for!!!!! So dense and full of flavor, a must try!!!

Guy H.

Yelp
What a great surprise. I was eating a hamburger across the street, looked over and there was SusieCakes. I didnt know exactly what it was so I strolled over after dinner and was impressed with the cakes by the slice available. Coincidentally, it was my birthday so, I took a piece of the 6 layer chocolate home. Very nice. Not too sweet and very chocolaty. All the other 7 or 8 cakes to go and the cookies and cup cakes all looked good. Plus, the shop looks like it was designed by Wes Anderson which is a visual treat. The staff was responsive and helpful. I will certainly go back for a piece of the Coconut Cake!

Bradley M.

Yelp
Love this place, great customer service and delicious cake! Highly recommended. A favorite.

Kristine K.

Yelp
Update: I received a call that Sunday and was offered store credit (which I politely declined as my household does not really eat sweets, special occasion for baby shower) then was offered a refund, which I accepted. I feel they made the effort to give great customer service and I would make future purchases with this business. I was not asked to update this review, I feel that after the phone call they do care about not only providing quality bakery items but also high quality customer service. First off the cake tasted amazing and they were the only bakery with availability so I was very happy with that. Placing an order was very easy over the phone but I also wasn't looking for a complicated cake. The only issue I had was the pricing, I was told over the phone at the beginning that it would be $133 for a two tier 9" with a 6" which was great but after placing the order the girl gave me my total of $194. I was kinda shocked, she did tell me there was a 10% expedited fee for short notice (which I was fine with) but when she did the breakdown the base price jumped from $133 to $176, when I addressed this she said oh I must have misspoken since the cake is $176. I do understand that it as my choice to proceed with the purchase but when you need a cake for an event and no other bakery has the availability what are you to do? Especially after going through the process of telling them exactly what you want, it was a relief to find someone to even get this far. I wasn't happy with the price change from beginning to end and felt that it wasn't professional, the girl was nice enough to wave the 10% fee but I still felt I was held over a barrel with the increase. I also wonder if I had been there in person if this would have happened. Here is the cake, like I said it was uncomplicated with no frills. The cake topper was my own.

Melissa R.

Yelp
My husband loves their carrot cake and that's the only reason I shop here. They are rude and their cupcakes are dry.
