In the area wanting to eat authentic Mexican food. Hit the spot. I recommend the green chilaquiles with over easy eggs on top or side.Tostadas and salsa delicious can taste the spiciness what I was looking for. Enjoyed every bit of my breakfast. Staff friendly, attentive, I will be returning. Place near neighborhood. Easy to find. Definitely will be back.

Google
I tried the Pozole, it was OK. The Chorizo and the Beans were good. The server was great. Thank You 👍

Chips with chunky salsa and spicy salsa were so good. The dinner plates were delicious! Our server was attentive and made sure we were all taken care of. We will definitely be back again soon!

Horror kitchen situation. The price is lower and the quality is equal to the price, unfortunately. You get what you pay for here. Coming inside it's dark - just enough of light to cover up a really dirty floor. Red flag straight away. Then we didn't receive a discount, only because I ordered in advance. Had to wait for the order for 30 minutes, even though ordered a day before. What is the point of setting up the pick up time then? Had to wander around the place looking for anyone to ask if they're done chasing my chicken in the fields in order to cook me some enchiladas. And last, but not least - the food itself is not great, guys. I do not recommend this place, big disappointment. P.S. don't get fooled of the food looking good in my photos - I just take great photos, is all. The flat flan (second photo) says it all!

I have been going to Susie's for many years but, it has been couple since I've been. Went last weekend & as to be expected they were packed. No problem. When the waiter took my order, I repeated it 2x & he repeated it back. Red beef plate. I was so disappointed to get the green chili beef plate. I didn't say anything because it took 25-30mn to get our food. We got the appetizer with the meal & the chorizo fondido was cold. The cheese was one lump. The green chili beef & beans were very good but the rice was crunchy. I didn't eat more than two bites. It was quite disappointing overall & spent around $60 on lunch. Side note: the lady, who I recognize from forever, working the register & seating people was so unpleasant. She literally has a scowl on her face, not once did I see a smile. I get working long hours can be challenging, but if you don't like what you're doing, don't do it. Do something that doesn't require customer service. She looked miserable.

Google
Nice fresh chips and good salsa. I had the menudo and husband had machaca. The menudo had a nice clean tasting broth (which means they clean/cook the offals well.) The machaca had great flavor and the bell peppers and onions added a nice brightness. We left here very happy and full.

Well me and the wife are from Forney, Tx and I am here working in the Phoenix area. We found Susie's on the inter-web saw it had decent reviews and decided we would try it... LISTEN LINDA.... I had the best tasting beef fajitas I CAN REMEMBER!!!!! Beans and rice are spot on and amazing. The wife had the #4 and it transported her back to her childhood. The service was fantastic the food was absolutely amazing and highly recommended. Only regret is I didn't take any photos to share.

Google
Unfortunately, my experience here was less than stellar. While conveniently located right off the 101, everything else could have used some improvement. For instance, the staff never checked how we were doing apart from the initial order. Every interaction seemed like they wanted us out of there as soon as possible. As far as the food goes, the refried beans were runny and did not have much flavor, the chips were slightly stale, and although the mild salsa wasn't tasteless, it was very watery. The hot sauce was pretty good, but not enough to make me return.

Yelp
I always take visitors here for breakfast, everything I have eaten here has been 10/10. Best Chilaquiles Verdes in the valley.

Chris G.

Yelp
Been great for years!!! Go there for consistently great food and service. Family owned and operated.
google avatar

Cassie D.

Yelp
It's been a while since we have been here and happy to see they still have the lunch special with $.01 beer! Chips and salsa always a favorite and the tacos and beans were great! Penny beer is a bonus!
google avatar

Yelp
I love green chili but this burrito was so hot I couldn't eat it. The salsa wasn't great and we had to go find waitress for more as she didn't check on us often enough. My friends weren't thrilled with their food either. Prices are low but I won't be going to Susie's again.

Kristine B.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. I remember it being sooo freaking delicious. The sopapillas were basically sweet rolls. I am sad it went downhill and they upped the prices. Jerry's in Gallup NM has the best sopapillas. HANDS DOWN!!

Nicholas F.

Yelp
Absolutely awful service, food was okay at best and margarita was watered down. Would not recommend for anyone trying to have a nice night out. Asked nicely for the bill to be split between a friend and I but didn't even listen to that and charged one the full price

Yelp
Great place for anytime dining, lunch, dinner, or even for a great breakfast. My girlfriend and i have been going to Susies for several years and the food is always consistent and fabulous (6 stars). The green chili con carne enchilada is my #1 go to. Burrito is phenomenal as well as the bowl while i was avoiding gluten. The only drawback to this place is that they need a better salsa with their complimentary chips--the tiny ramekins of thin "salsa" just doesn't make the grade. Fix that and it'll be 5 stars and worth going for daily lunch beers.
google avatar

Andi S.

Yelp
Hands down, some of the best carne asada street tacos I've ever had! This place has been a family staple for years now. They have great breakfast options served all day too. Great micheladas as well. Their beans are some of the best refried beans too! The pozole is delicious! Some of my favorite dishes are the Chile relleno, huevos rancheros, and of course the carne asada tacos... a must! The service is usually pretty quick. And there's never an issue with parking. The ambiance isn't anything spectacular, but if you're in the mood for some quality authentic Mexican food this is your place. I was so hungry, I demolished my food before I could snap a photo.

Yelp
Been coming to Susie's since I was a kid. Do not be fooled by the outside and give the place a try. When you walk in it is like being at your abuelas. The family food is so delicious. Everything is made with love to make you feel right at home. Sometimes the service is a bit slow but that is because they're always busy serving a full house repeat customers!!!

Yelp
Good menudo. Caldo not so great. Other food is wonderful, especially the chorizo. Service is fast and friendly.

Yelp
Susie's are our neighborhood go to! The food is good, we love almost everything! The staff are nice, the place can get packed.

Yelp
First time here. Probably won't be coming back. Here's why. Wife and I came in for breakfast and only one couple was there and it took way too long to get our meals. I say about 20 minutes, for 2 plates of chilaquiles. I had the red and my wife had the green. The taste was very bland and the sauce very watered down. The beans were the best part of the meal. I've been other places where the chilaquiles are served with crema (table cream) some sautéed jalapeños. This place charges for everything. Service was eehh, since customers were coming in she never checked up on us.

Tannia R.

Yelp
We've been wanting to come here for a while. Upon arriving, the restaurant looked a little skkkkkkkketch. We sat at the bar, our preferred location. We had the classic margarita and the chamoy margarita and both were BUSSIN'. They were PP! They were busy but were very attentive to the two high and drunk individuals at the bar Thank you Susie! We will be back!

Yelp
Good place quiet atmosphere and good flavor. From the outside it looks run down but the food quality is high

Yelp
On recommendation from a staff member at the Hyatt near Sloan /Riverview park in Mesa we went to Susie's Mexican cafe a couple miles away on university in Tempe . Asking for good Mexican food I said I love good refried beans and Susie's did not disappoint . Taking extended family members from out of town for lunch I was so pleased to find an older 50s / 60s type authentic and local restaurant . We all 7 were seated in a large booth . Starting with a very cheesy cheese crisp we all ordered a variety of items . I had a lunch special of abondigas sopa & a quesadilla we all shared with guacamole side . I had a server reccomended green Chile sour cream enchilada plate , very enjoyable. The lunch special 8.99$ included a soda or draft beer for one cent more . The service was very efficient and attentive . So happy to find an older Mexican American restaurant with quite an extensive menu . Reminded me of old favorites in south tucson az . A good sign was to see many folks coming in for take out and a crowd of what looked to be loyals there too. A big bonus no waiting and ample parking !

Yelp
my dad has been coming here for 20 years and I recently started coming here with him in about the last 10 years and every time we come I get the best Horchata that I've ever had on earth the food is amazing the chips and salsa are amazing the service is great the women are always super nice and friendly!! love them a lot! the inside is really inviting and homey.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
By far the most bland Mexican food I have ever had. Terrible. I'd sooner go to a chain restaurant than here. I absolutely do not understand all of these good reviews. Neither of us liked our meals.
google avatar

Maurizio V.

Yelp
Absolutely authentic food at a very reasonable price. Great atmosphere, great for place to entrain friends and family.

Yelp
We were in the mood for menudo and after doing a Yelp search, I found Susie's. After a quick call to confirm they had menudo, we arrived to find what looked like an unassuming, hole in the wall, divey, type place. Various cars decorated the parking lot so we figured it couldn't be too bad so we gave it a try. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated right away. The inside of the restaurant is pleasant, cute, and clean. Chips and salsa were promptly brought to our table and our server took our drink order. Their horchata was excellent and the menudo was delish. The menudo accoutrements included lemon, dried oregano, and green onion. We also received plenty corn tortillas with our order. We even ordered a chilaquiles dish to share just to try and that was very good as well. Just like other reviewers, I'd say it's worthy of 4 stars and we'll definitely be back.

Yelp
This is a small unassuming and easy to miss spot in Mesa. We stopped for breakfast and upon arriving at the entrance, one cannot help but observe that the large swinging door is very unique. We were seated quickly and given water and chips and salsa. I am especially happy because I see on their menu they serve Birria and pozole. They also serve Mexican breakfasts all day. will continue:

Yelp
Local gem that's been around for decades. Very casual and classic good AZ Mexican fare and family owned ambience. Friendly service makes you feel welcome. My one complaint is the booths are too tight for my ample belly.
google avatar

Yelp
Not bad, not great, just 'okay'. Would visit again if in the immediate area. Service was good, place was quiet and pretty empty.

Yelp
I have for 16 years been a Susie's fan, and often about once a month on weekdays, but a man you guys sure know how to passively mess it up when you're out of sorts. So here's my advice: NEVER VISIT ON A WEEKEND!! You owe me $80 bucks today guys, but I'll never be back after today's visit to collect. I'll start with the waitress taking our order. She was proficient and got it down just fine, but we seemed to lose all interest when we stuck with water. Never saw her again after that, and if it hadn't been for the fact we were helping ourselves to the water pitcher - probably with less than ideal food safety as my wife was resting the spout on the cups - we never would have survived on those 10 oz water cups. But the main thing is we were right there in the main walk toward the front door and NEVER got eye contact or interaction from anyone. We were in the tables with the long booth against the wall so it isn't like we were hidden in a booth. It really felt like the rudest I've been treated in a restaurant. Even one glance at us or a water cup or empty chip basket or lack of napkins would have felt different. Then the food comes out. Pretty haphazard a couple things at a time, and my #13 and the kids shrimp dish come out cold. Yeah my friend, carrying them out with those hot pads doesn't magically warm them up, although the plate was slightly warmer than the enchiladas themselves. We ate it in silence because it wasn't worth it at this point - it was going to be a battle to find anybody to listen. Two of our party had corn tortillas as part of their meal and my wife had avocado on hers, and those elements didn't come out until about half way through the meal. On that front, yep it took action, I had to make half our party get up so I could slide out and go find the waitress at the order terminal in back. She suggested they'd probably be out soon, but didn't suggest she was going to run off to check. They finally came out a couple minutes later. But at least you were consistent in the lack of hospitality! Yeah I left you about an 11% tip, but you sure didn't deserve that much, that was only because times are hard in the service industry. You guys were unworthy to be in business today and I was the sucker for paying you for it. Do me a favor next time and just tell me to "get out!" at the front door. That would be amusing, and you'd save me $80. Instead I spent an hour and a half today listening to the same message loud and clear with crappy food added on. I keep laughing every time I see the ambience indicator at the top of this review. Yeah right - ambience. A black hole of ambience sucking your humanity into terminal darkness perhaps.

Alyson E.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Mexican food! Best place ever 10/10 recommend! They're pozel is bomb at! If you are looking for ACTUAL MEXICAN FOOD this is the place for you!

Spencer W.

Yelp
Carne asada chimichanga and margarita were phenomenal! The service was excellent too. Servers were nice and caring. Love the atmosphere of the place. Makes me feel like I'm at grandmas house.

Yelp
I always drove by this little Mexican spot not far from where I live and was curious to try it out. We decided to try this spot out finally. There is nothing fancy or special about this but it has a very quaint, family home vibe. I ordered the chicken flautas with guac and sour cream, rice and beans. While at first glance, my plate wasn't pretty at all, I can tell you that the food here is certainly authentic. Everything was soooo good. I actually was shocked by some of the reviews especially about the service. The staff was extremely attentive and pleasant to us. I plan on returning and highly recommend this place!9

Misu L.

Yelp
I am not going here because their employees steal stuff from their customers. I have proof of that, and I am very unsatisfied with how they have their employees with their customers. One of their customers stole my wife's phone, and on top of that had the balls enough to steal it and take pictures, plus that's like the most stupid thing you can do because on my wife's phone when you take a picture it shows where the location was. Plus they dialed some numbers showing that they were trying to unlock the phone so as of right now this place has people that like to steal stuff from people thievery is not allowed .
google avatar

Pedro R.

Yelp
Food is great here. Also the price is amazing. And the service was great. Also I got a beer for a pennie which doesn't make sense but they brought me my beer in a frosted glass. I got a quesadilla the size of my car and the tamale I ate was one of the best ones I've ever had!! Great place I highly recommend
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
What a great place to eat. The service is amazing. There is so much flavor in the food. You will know it by the big red door. I love the way it feels as you walk through the big red door. It's like you are on a mini vacation. The atmosphere is inviting and the staff superb. So if your in the Phoenix area swing by Tempe and visit Susie's.
google avatar

Rosalina R.

Yelp
Delicious! Beans and rice were perfectly done. Cheese was sprinkled on top of beans and rice like gold. I enjoyed it. :)
google avatar

Senorita B.

Yelp
We really wanted to like this place. I read the great reviews and was expecting to find a new local place to visit again and again. Unfortunately, Susie's missed the mark. Why? First off, the chips were stale. And it wasn't like it was the end of the night, we were there mid-day, just in time for lunch. Chipotle honestly has better tasting chips. Second, they charge for everything! Chips included. The first small basket's free, but if you want a second it's $2.49 (and the basket is small). I've never been to a sit-down Mexican restaurant that charges for tortilla chips. They also charge for tortillas and drink refills and pretty much everything else! The prices are just average for entrees. The food is meh. It's not terrible, but it's not delicious either. It's definitely not a place you'll find yourself craving in the future. It's just okay food. The salsa's watery, too. Their flan was good though. Our server wasn't rude, but she wasn't exactly friendly either. It was busy though and I know they had a lot of customers so I don't hold it against her. Once was enough for Susie's. We should have just gone to Filiberto's instead. Susie's needs to step up their game and quit charging for everything under the sun!

Yelp
Tried it for the first time... great food that reminds us of being in Mexico (not Americanized Mexican food). My children even enjoyed there meals with very little to take home! The chili relleno taste like my grandmas
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
We asked a worker at the hotel we're at where's great Mexican food. The top of her list was Suzie's, but they close at 4pm on Sundays, so we went there for our Tuesday night date night and enjoyed an excellent meal. I had the Combo 12 taco and relleno, wife had fish tacos. We also had a small pitcher of strawberry margaritas. Friend staff, plenty of guests, not too big a venue. Just right in my book. Had to look close as we drove by the outside light was not lit. Going to return and try their huevos rancheros for breakfast. Thanks.
google avatar

Brice R.

Yelp
Reasonably priced, fairly good portion size, always very good food. Can't say it knocks my socks off, but we have gone to Susie's maybe 3-4X per year for decades. Fairly good shop; always really liked their food, never blew me away, though. Fast and friendly service.
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
Susie's has been a go to for me since my early 20's hangover breakfasts to my early 40's business lunches. Just miles from where I grew up in west mesa, they offer traditional Mexican plates and combos. I usually get the green chili burrito w/ cheese enchilada. It's my fave here. The daughter went to Westwood around the same time I did. Family owned and operated to this day. It's worth it.

David M.

Yelp
Breakfast was excellent. Great service, polite and friendly staff and the salsa was one of the best ever had at a Restaurant. Definitely will return to try the lunch and dinner menus.
google avatar

TJ U.

Yelp
Not sure how I have never been here before growing up in the valley. But came tonight and was pleased. Chilaquiles were great! Red sauce had a little heat. I'm a wimp so take that into consideration. Husband had the taco and cheese enchilada combo. Both were tasty. Their refried beans were really good and love that they use the white cheese. Service was very attentive. Yes it's a little hole in the wall place but tasty food!
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
Very good. First Mexican food we've eaten in AZ and its going to be hard to top this.
google avatar

Krystina W.

Yelp
I love Susie's! My family has been coming here for years and know we can rely on them when we are craving comforting Mexican food. They're popular in the area as they've been around for a while. Service is attentive/friendly and the chips and salsa are 10/10.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
I stopped by upon a recommendation from a friend. Always looking for that local mom and pop dive restaurant. And he was right the food was awesome. Service was friendly and attentive. The salsa was addicting and the hot sauce was a good heat. The chips were fresh, a great start. Then I had a beef enchilada and tamale, and they were both good. You differently get the value for your money. I will come back in the near future, as I saw on the menu they serve breakfast. Looking forward to the next experience

Bus Driver David V.

Yelp
Again I'm leaving a review about this horrible establishment. Again my wife goes over there to pick up food and again they seem to get everything wrong and mess up our order, I mean how hard is it to take a simple order ? Every time we order from there they always leave out certain items and when we call to complain, they always have an excuse. They either forget to write down the order or they have someone that answers the phone and they can't take an order properly. I'm sorry but this place shouldn't advertise that they have great service and food. How they keep getting repeated customers is beyond me. My family will most definitely will never order or go there to eat ever again.

S M.

Yelp
This was a shot in the dark to grab some Mexican food before heading to the airport. What a score! Great food at a reasonable price! Would come back!!
google avatar

Crystal Diana J.

Yelp
Ordered the green chile enchiladas.. absolutely pleased ! It's a lil hole in the wall but it didn't disappoint

Xochilt A.

Yelp
Came here for a Saturday morning brunch. The food was amazing. I had the pozole and my boyfriend had the Mexican pizza. The service was a little slower than we had hoped but the food was well worth the wait. Staff was extremely friendly and considerate. Definitely authentic Mexican food.

Nita H.

Yelp
My first time, got green chile enchiladas. They were amazing! Best I have had in a restaurant in years! great service too

Suzy S.

Yelp
Susie's has been in business for 50 years. If I had to guess why it would be because they have the best green chili beef enchiladas I've ever eaten anywhere. I have tried for the last 25 years since I've found Susies to find any better in town or on trips and I keep asking myself why I keep looking, it doesn't get better than this. I wish I could comment on their other food but there is no way I'm sitting down at Susie's and not ordering absolutely one of the most delicious dishes I've ever had anywhere.
google avatar

Yadira G.

Yelp
So sad to not have taken pictures of our plates! I came from out of state Texas to be precise and I struggled with finding a good authentic mexican taste. Susie's had that and more!
google avatar

KJ O.

Yelp
NOT impressed whatsoever with Suzies. If you literally want to be nickel and dimed for every single thing you order (I'm surprised they don't charge you extra for ice in a glass of water) then come to Suzie's Mexican Restaurant. Service was not welcoming or friendly at all and felt like the whole experience was rushed. Sorry to bother you but I thought this was a service restaurant but I felt like everything I asked for was a bother and there is an extra fee for EVERYTHING. I ordered fajitas to split which came with TWO tortillas. 2 for 2 people. Than asked for more and was charged $1.50 extra per tortilla, over $2 for a tiny side of cheese, extra salsa chips etc. NOT impressed. Sorry but I do not recommend this restaurant. Will never return

Yelp
For any of you that have read my reviews in the past, you know that I have a hard time with spicy hot pepper foods. My husband loves it, the hotter the better. I always tell him lets go eat at Mexican restaurants because I can always find Gringo food, Something that I can eat. Last Saturday we went out to dinner with our friends and since everyone loves Mexican food we found Susie's Mexican Café. At five thirty this place was empty and I was a little worried, but by 6 pm every table was filled. The staff is so nice. At first we were sitting at a table but we asked if we could go to a booth that was bigger and they didn't have a problem they helped us move. Our waitress so sweet helping me find something that didn't have hot pepper. Our food came really fast and it was delicious. My husband and one of our friends loved the green Chili sauce. I had the Shrimp fajita, OMG it was so good and it had a lot of big Shrimp and the best refried beans that I have had in awhile. Have you ever been to a Mexican restaurant when they use tiny shrimp or canned refried yuck. Not here. Will we come back. I hope so soon. This place is wonderful. Thank you Susie's Mexican Cafe for giving all of us a wonderful meal.
