WHY YOU SHOULD BE SHOPPING HERE!
I love this little market and have been shopping here for years. The evening hours are crazy because that is when most people like to shop and you have to squeeze by everyone. However, the cashiers are friendly and efficient so you don't stand in line for a long time. If you want that authentic market feel, go at night and if you want to get in and out go first thing in the morning.
When I shop here, I am very intentional and tend to buy the same things: Cauliflower, (best prices, large in size), broccoli heads, (great size and price), fresh greens, (spinach and kale) zucchini, cucumbers, avocadoes, tomatoes, okra and turnips. Sometimes, I will grab the fresh dill because I use it in my homemade dressing and I love it on my creamy brussels sprouts.
I never thought in a million years that I would move back to the south and would have difficulty finding southern greens. It has been crazy frustrating because the common greens of choice are the collard greens which are boring and overrated. I love turnip greens, (from the ground, not the bag), and they are so difficult to find that I have had to consider other options. I really enjoy the fresh bundled kale and spinach sold here. It is a cut above and always has a fresh and clean taste that delivers on flavor every time. I lightly season and cook them in a bit of avocado oil (after a light steam), and they are perfection.
The price of cauliflower has really gotten out of control and the heads have shrunken significantly. I use mine to create a low-carb pizza crust, bread alternative or creamy mash so I usually buy two and they must be very large.
The tomatoes are always a great price and taste great after they ripen a bit. Always juicy and rich in color and flavor. I have not been disappointed in any of the produce so it is highly recommended.
There are chilled, frozen and shelf foods available. I only venture to this side if I want some of their spices. They are varied and less processed than what you would find in a typical grocery store. If you want something hot and easy, they have a little kitchen up front to the right of the door as you enter and you may purchase biryani, pakora, samosas and other Indian dishes.
Beware of high traffic times, which tends to start an hour after opening, (10 am), until close. If you are there when they open, you will have a very easy and quiet experience. Otherwise, you're doomed! Last Friday, the first official day of Coronagedden, we couldn't even get in the parking lot as traffic was simply backed up everywhere. The next morning they opened early and were fully stocked as usual. Always one step ahead!
Check it out!
