"One of Austin’s best Indian vegetarian restaurants relocated from North Lamar to Round Rock in -92019, where it still serves its essential thali specials, which are basically platters and the best way to try a little bit of everything. The restaurant is also home to some of the best dosas in the Austin area. Takeout orders can be placed online; there are indoor dine-in services." - Nadia Chaudhury

Google
Overall they are a solid 3.5. Service was fast and polite. Place seemed clean. We stopped here for a quick bite-turned-supper. Very pleasantly surprised to find sugarcane juice! They possibly over spiced their chaat, because although it tasted great it did give me some heartburn. Dahi papdi chat was tasty, plenty of onions and farsan to keep it fresh and crunchy. Dabeli was tasty but oily (dabeli are meant to on the spicer side and this one certainly was). Pani puri was fine, some of the puris felt stale (like maybe they were fried too long in advance or were from older dough). They do live counter chaat on Fridays, we may come back to try that at some point.

Google
Food was great. Cane sugar juice was fresh and cool. Service could be better, the waiter forgot our order and eventually we did not eat one of the orders. Green Pav bhaji was different yet good, dhahi poori spicy tangy and one of the best. Ragda patty was ok tasted odd. So dint like as much. Would visit again for the cane sugar, dhahi puri. They also have live pani puri station.

Taste restored. Had been coming to this restaurant for past 3 years, some good and bad experiences over time. I can certainly say they have restored the taste they had. Dabeli is amazing again. Thali and Bhel puri was also amazing. Decent ambiance. And delivery speed was lightening speed. We ordered and all the items were on table in 5 mins.

Nice North Indian Restaurant located in Round Rock. As of Aug6,2021, they offer only take-out with limited timing (12.30pm - 8.30pm) . Last order is taken at 8.15pm. (Attached pic) Features- * Chat, meals are very good and fresh. The package is done neatly for Togo orders. They also offer fresh sugarcane juice and Chickoo milkshake. They taste top notch. *We experienced little bit of wait time for Togo orders due to large number of order being arriving. They also do food delivery through Grubhub. *As mentioned ,All chat items are prepared fresh and packed. In other restaurants, we experienced chat was served very chilled and old but here its fresh and unique. One of recommended restaurants for chat in Austin. *Located close to I-35 &Mc Neil rd and is easily accessible. #HappyDining

Google
Swad Vegetarian restaurant is a really good Indian vegetarian restaurant in this area. The food is really very tasty and delicious. The price of the food is very reasonable, not very costly. They have variety of mouth watering dishes. One of the other main attraction of the restaurant is the interior design, the interior design of the restaurant is really beautiful. The restaurant is huge and lot of seating capacity. They have special kind of seats there you can sit comfortably. Staffs in the restaurant is really friendly. The service is quick. I would definitely recommend this place for good vegetarian food

Ambience : 8 Food Taste : 9 Quality of Food : 10 Quantity of food :10 Hygienic : 10 Service :10 They serve fresh cooked Indian vegetarian meals . Service was pretty fast even on holiday. We ordered some chat item like dahi puri , good in fast , along with it we ordered hakka noodles and saag paratha and aloo partha , apart from chole and paneer the taste of dishes were good . They have authentic Indian sitting for having food. I took 1 star since i do not like chole/channa masala taste and panner too which we got in paratha saag thali.

Google
Food is freshly prepared and servings are generous. We had the mixed vegetable pakoras and they were delicious! The Mysore Masala Dosas had a delicious filling; we loved the caramelized onions in it. Service is fast and attentive. If decor was a bit more put together, and without the digital ads and large signs, the atmosphere would be more inviting. But don't let that stop you from eating here; you would be missing out if you did!

Google
Restaurant was clean, large menu with lots of clearly marked vegan options, food was generally very good, it was a good value as my dosa was large and had more filling than I've ever had before, initial service was fast, food was prepared quickly, and servers were attentive when we needed additional items. I can't give five stars, because it took a long time for us to get our bill and the chutneys were lackluster and served in plastic. They moved recently so the photos of the interior posted by others are no longer valid.

Yelp
This was the first meal I had on the day of arrival in Austin. Impressed by the cross legged seating arrangement and steel plates and bowls. Roti are very thin and soft, just like how we used to get back at home in India. Dal and paneer sabji were also good, not too spicy and tasteful. Overall decent food. I felt the quantity of curry was not as per the price but maybe because it included rice too. Might come again to try other items like fafda or kachori.

Devanshi B.

Yelp
Only been here once because they had today's special stuff ** vegetarian food review** Here is what we tried! It was all very very good! The best part was we don't usually get these things at other Indian restaurants, which made it more special! Khichyu - reminded me of home..it was perfectly cooked and delicious! The masala was also the right amount. Fafda- the fafda was okay, kadhi was nice Thali- rotlas were thin and yum, and both the sabji with it were very very delicious. I would go to this place again for all these food items and try other stuff as well! Service was good. No complaints there. Ambiance was very homely too- we liked their seating which was kinda traditional, so was fun. The music was also not the usual Bollywood, they played some old songs which was good.

Yelp
If you love traditional Indian food, if you love street food and if you are or don't mind a vegetarian meal then this place is for you. To start, we got pain puri - we lined up at the counter and an "uncle" filled up hollowed crackers with different flavors of veggie and fruit sauces like mango, cilantro, mint, chili, onion etc and we had to eat the real quick before they got soggy. A serving got us about 5. If you opt for that, you eat and pay for it before seating. I unfortunately don't remember what all we had because I went with some Indian friends and they made all the orders but the familiar things were chickpea curry, mango lassi, naan and rice. I do remember though that it was all very delicious and we did little talking because we were all so busy eating. There was also so much food that I could only photograph some but I promise you are guaranteed a good time. If you don't care for street food, don't go for the panipuri as the process might upset you. I also might not know what to order if I went alone or with someone who isn't familiar with Indian street food as the menu is quite overwhelming. However, staff are so friendly that I'm sure they'll be happy to help. I would go back and recommend checking them out too.

Piyush S.

Yelp
This place is closed. The food has lot of unnecessary added sugar. It's possible that they may reopen but it's too pricey.

Nikki V.

Yelp
Authentic Gujarati food. The ambiance is not bad, clean restrooms too. The service can be a bit slow, given this is a small mom n pop style restaurant. But the food, food's really good

Akhilesh B.

Yelp
Surely a hidden gem! This place may not give you a vibe of good food but don't go by it's looks. It may not be fancy, but they do make up with some really tasty and delicious Indian food. And the taste is very authentic! Kaju Curry, Paneer Butter Masala, Aloo Paratha and Lilva Kachori would be the ones I'd recommend. Garlic naan was fluffy and they sure used some real garlic. Every entree comes with a rice. So careful while ordering.

Yelp
I can't recommend Swad enough! The food is incredible, the service is amazing, and the owner Ravi goes above and beyond to make sure that his customers are happy. One of the things that sets Swad apart is the fact that they only serve pure vegetarian food. As a vegetarian, it can be hard to find restaurants that cater to my dietary needs without sacrificing flavor, but Swad does an excellent job at that. The paratha and 3 saak, and lilva kachoris are some of my favorites, but honestly, everything on the menu is fantastic. This place is a must-try! The service is exceptional too. Ravi is always welcoming and friendly, and he goes out of his way to make sure that his customers are happy. He takes the time to explain the dishes and make recommendations based on our preferences, which we appreciate. We go to Swad very often and have even used their catering services for events. The food is always delicious. Overall, I highly recommend Swad to anyone looking for pure vegetarian Indian cuisine. The food is incredible, the service is amazing, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting.

Iago V.

Yelp
Food + service, I do recommend. Swad quiere decir "sabor". Un amigo de Delhi me lo recomendó muy rico y con muy buen servicio.

Tanmay T.

Yelp
Super authentic Indian food. I have tried almost all the dishes in appetizers (chaat) and most of the north Indian dishes and they are all authentic and flavorful. Not sure about south Indian dishes like dosa, uttappam but I have heard positive reviews from my friends about it. The person who welcomes and takes the order is friendly. The service is not slow. Parking situation is good too. They have been short staffed recently and wasn't accepting dine-in orders. So please call ahead to check the latest status. Only thing that needs improvement is the seating. The tables are clean but overall ambience of the place is below average. They have plenty of space so if they work on the ambience, the dine-in experience would be even better.

Yelp
TLDr; If you absolutely have to eat here, you could have better luck with their curries or thali. Chat and Indo Chinese is not edible food. They don't know how to make it and top it, there is a lady who will drill it into your head and this is exactly how it's made everywhere. Quality of food went down pretty quickly. Having eaten and cooked Indian food for more than 20 years, I can definitely say they do not serve good food now. Recently visited 2 times on weekdays so no rush. Ordered chat and Indo chinese. Chat came out without any kind of chutney or yogurt. Ragda pattice was cooked in green beans. Never in my life have a seen a recipe or anybody book ragda in green beans. To top it they were so stingy with onions in the chat that we had to ask them to bring some more. We had asked them to make it spicy so they added HOT SAUCE very liberally to it. It tasted the worst and we could not finish it. The Indo Chinese was literally swimming in ketchup and oil. No cilantro, no soy sauce and no chilli sauce. They cannot get it right!! Service - They have a track record of hiring young men from Mexico. They don't talk and just place the dish and go away. No one will come and ask you if the food is edible or not. When we were done, we waited for a good 20 mins before we went to signal them inside that we are done and needed to go and please bring the check. The lady again did not ask how the food or service was . Only quoted the $$. We let her know that nobody would cook chat this way. She started arguing really in a really sick tone that she uses green beans in her chat and because we asked for spicy, she did not add yogurt. No comments about why no chutneys. She went on and on about how she knows best. Meanwhile, seeing us give them feedback, another customer couple complained that the food quality has gone down. The lady at the counter was so rude to them. The unbelievably rude lady at the counter really was the last straw. We have catered from Swad before but will not be returning again unless they improve food quality. Improving service is not on their priorities any how.

Shareef V.

Yelp
Take out only but man was this place traditional amazing Indian food. Get the sugarcane juice no matter what! I get two for $6 each... so worth it.

Deepak ..

Yelp
Pros: service was fast Cons: The food was really bad. None of us finished any of our dishes. The bhel puri was inedible, I don't know how you mess up something as simple as a bhel puri, yet it was the worst I have ever eaten. Dabeli was 2 store bought buns with a sweet sauce in between. The chutneys that came with the dosas smelled bad. The Bhaji in the pav Bhaji had more cauliflower than potatoes. Then rava dosa had carrots and peas , a combination never seen before. We had to stop at McDonald's to satisfy our hunger. Round rock and Austin has far better indian options than this place

David S.

Yelp
You walk in and the owner I assume sits in a booth stares at you without acknowledging you are there to be helped. Any food I've had was good but the service is not great I almost get the feeling I'm unwanted

Romi J.

Yelp
I would give them zero star, because the food was cold not even warm. When the waiter bought our food it had no taste as such. When we complained, another waiter came to tell us that the food is bland because they cater mainly to American customers who do not like it very spicy. When we looked around there were only Indians . So it was a very poor excuse by the waiter. Instead of replacing the food with a warmer and a little spicy one. He was making excuses of all kinds to to avoid taking the food and correcting it. We will never go there. Terrible service and management. The only thing which was hot and spicy was chicken Manchurian. That's why they get one star. Rest terrible.

Mohan J.

Yelp
Very simply -- the best Indian restaurant in town! It's certainly not the fanciest or priciest but it has a very large range of Indian food selections including the ever popular street food and South Indian snacks! Try the Thalis they are excellent. Also try dosas, dahi chaat, papri chaat, samosas, dahi ballas, and many more!!!

S R.

Yelp
Sometime in 2006, we had traveled to Shimla. Along the way we had stopped for food at a roadside Dhabba. Nothing I've tasted since has come close to tasting as good as the food at that Dhabba. Except, now, right here at Swad. This food is about as close to perfect. If you walk in and compare the ambience of this place to say any other Indian restaurant, then you've missed the point. This is Dhabba food served in the right setting down to the steel plates with all their dings and imperfections. There was a lake of clarified butter on our aloo paratha. YESSS!! BRILLIANT. A HOPE IN THE WALL. WILL TELEPORT YOU TO A SPOT ON THE DELHI-SHIMLA NATIONAL HIGHWAY!

Janine R.

Yelp
This restaurant was a surprise in Round Rock. One of my rules for Indian food is if there are Indian people at the tables, it's a good sign, this is the same rule for all types of restaurants that are culture specific. I ordered the Masala Chai which is not on the menu but the kitchen is able to make for you. The masala dosa was freshly made and delicious and a very fair price point for the amount of food served. I would highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to coming back and trying out their other items.

Sami S.

Yelp
Average average average that's all it is. No taste to anything. Same filling for everything from vada pao to samosas and pakoras! U cannot tell what are you eating. No hold on spices. Everything taste like cinnamon!

Rina O.

Yelp
I liked that it was very traditional, from the decor and to seating. Food was good, smaller portions than what I expected, service and food speed was good.

Illusions By A.

Yelp
I'll keep this short and simple, good vegan indian food! Just keep in mind, they're closed on Wednesday's.

P B.

Yelp
Good food and spacious restaurant. Much like the old one. Knocking off 3 stars because apparently the wait staff has no clue what goes into the food or they have a blatant disregard for folks with allergies. My son is allergic to sesame and peanuts. When ordering the Aloo paratha we specifically asked if it has either and they very confidently replied no. Thankfully he didn't eat it there because it was STREWN with sesame seeds! See the picture. Note to the owners - you need to train your staff on the current allergens or you're looking at a liability claim.

Christopher S.

Yelp
Good food if a little more expensive than I was accustomed to. Stick with the basics here. Sadly not as good as the original location, but still worth it.

Rebekah C.

Yelp
Very authentic meal! Everything is vegetarian here as well. You can even sit Indian style if you want to here. Probably one of the best Indian places I've been to. Hardly anyone was here when we stopped by so we got our food very quickly. I ordered the dosa and omg was it amazing. My partner ordered the thali special. Everything was cooked perfectly fresh and so delicious. There are so many items in the menu that I'll definitely be back for more.

Shradha A.

Yelp
My friend was craving traditional Gujarati food so their thali option brought us here. Sincere thanks to all the Yelpers for uploading the pictures that guided us to fulfill her pregnancy food cravings! For the rest of us, the food didn't quite deliver - the pav bhaji was runny and oily, not flavorful. The dahi poori was spicy with chili bits that burned our tongue. The food just wasn't very good. The experience of sitting on a traditional cross-legged seat to eat made it fun and sharing in on the evening arti was nice.

Khatija C.

Yelp
One of the best Indian authentic , fresh, vegetarian food I ever ate in United States. Fresh, healthy delicious. Highly recommend to someone who is gujju. You will love it even if not gujju.

Adriana T.

Yelp
First, I am so excited to see an all vegetarian restaurant in Round Rock! We moved to Round Rock recently from Austin and Austin has a great variety of vegan and vegetarian options, Round Rock, not so much. My husband and I decided to try out swad as we tried it in Austin and enjoyed it. I can't remember the specific names of our dishes, but I got a crepe stuffed with spicy potatoes and it was so yummy! It is huge though, so be warned. My husband got some kind of korma dish and loved it. The staff is not very attentive so expect to have to flag them down, but the food is delicious! This is a place I will definitely return to.

Julia G.

Yelp
Amazing experience! The food was unbelievably delicious and the service was wonderful. Our server was super attentive and helpful in choosing our food. Everything was amazing! I will definitely be going there often!

Ashwin V.

Yelp
We went here as part of our visit to Round Rock, TX and we were very glad to come to this place. It was one of the few options open on 4th July. This place is known for its authentic veggie Gujarati cuisine and we were not disappointed at all. We ordered 2 thali and it was served very quick. You have an option of choosing 4 rotis or puris (we took one for each) and it was the right amount. The sides come with 1 khadi, 1 subzi, raita, pickle, potato w/ gravy, salad, 1 daal, 2 other gravy based dishes and 1 laddoo. The food was a lot for one person to eat but we tried our best to finish it. The restrooms were fairly clean and the ambiance was good as well. The service was quick. If you "like" this place on Facebook, you will also get 5% discount off your bill! Overall, we liked it.

Annie T.

Yelp
They helped me to order vegan. They were very nice! I love the look inside the restaurant. If you like tempura I would recommend their mixed vegetable pakoras

Sylvia I.

Yelp
I came to order during lockdown. It may look dark, but it's open. They do not have seating in, but they do deliver to your car after you come in an order at the counter. Very nice people. The samosas are big. The temperature is ready to eat and won't burn your tongue. The spice is mild heat. The sauce is very sweet. Great balance. Enjoy!

Tiffany L.

Yelp
I love this place. It's the first authentic Indian restaurant I've ever been to (according to an Indian friend), and I'm truly blown away. In the past, I would never think to order vegetarian dishes when eating out, but the food was so tasty that I forgot when I was eating. I could consider becoming a vegetarian if all of my food was seasoned like this. We ordered a Dosa filled with spicy potatoes, a Thali special, and a Palak Paneer to share, and I think I enjoyed it even more due to the variety of flavors. Because I'm not fully accustomed to the new taste, some of the curries in the Thali special threw me for a loop, but because there were so many options, I just avoided those and got full on other stuff. I will say this place has more than satisfied my curious taste buds, and I have to come back again to try some other dishes.

Geof T.

Yelp
Came here with a friend who recommended this place for their authenticity. I can't speak to the authenticity because I've never had authentic Indian food, but regardless, the food was delicious. There was such a variety of different food available. We ordered a Palak Paneer, Mysore Masala Dosa, and the Thali Special with roti and poori! There's just so much variety if I went into every individual thing, it would take forever. If you get tired of eating soft/liquid food, take a break and eat the Dosa. If you want a nice chew, try the Paneer. Dip the poori or roti in whatever you like or just eat it plain to savor the original taste. There was never a dull moment. Favorite thing was the Dosa which was like a big crepe. Then the palak paneer which was like a very thick spinach stew with chunks of cheese that reminded me of mozzarella. Additionally we ordered pani poori which was very interactive and very fun to eat. Everything is vegetarian so take note of that! Also it's in round rock and took ~30 minutes to drive to from campus.

Rati C.

Yelp
The restaurant was smelling weird. The quality of food extremely disappointing quality of food. Thali was $18 and not worth the price. The dhokla which was part of the Thali was filled with oil and very dry. Roti served felt like the readymade rotis and was very hard. 1 star is only for the Papdi Chaat.

Raj P.

Yelp
Good vegetarian restaurant. Went here on a weekday and it was not much crowded. They have this traditional Indian like seating along with others, we got one of these seatings. You have to crisscross your legs and sit in these seats. We ordered thali. The food was good. The roti and poori were very good. Of the curries, some were good and some lacked more flavors. There is a sweet side to all these curries, which I'm not a fan of. But I understand that as this cuisine is mainly Gujrati . Overall, the food is good, needs little more flavor and less sweet (a little more spicy).

Jatin J.

Yelp
Wow, this has been truely an authentic Gujarati restaurant in town.Wish they keep making Undhiyu often. Good at Chats few like Vada Paav,Dabeli, Ragda Patrice but their Methi Paratha and Malai Kofta(spicy) are one of the best combination, I ever had in Austin. Their Thali was average, it all depends on the varieties they serve in curries. I didn't find it value for money. Rather do an Ala carte

Pratik P.

Yelp
They opened this location after 2 months of closing their lamar location. I want to tell one thing is the food is great and new location has more room and open welcoming atmosphere. Too bad they have to close 2 days after they open because of accident. But now they are open. Great flavor and taste of food. They never compromise with flavors.

Ram S.

Yelp
Went there for Chaat and was terribly disappointed. Ordered bhel puri & it was a disaster. Even though the base was fresh, the chutneys used were too spicy and wierd tasting. Green chutney (mint + coriander) wasn't added and instead a red spicy chutney was mixed with sweet date chutney. Then ordered Aloo paratha. The Aloo base was mixed with so much of green chilli seeds that it was not at all edible. Final dish was poori/Chole, which unfortunately had no flavor. The restaurant uses some red spicy paste base in almost every dish which ruins the authentic Chole flavor and it seemed like no ginger/garlic or tomatoes were used. I cannot understand how such simple dishes can be so screwed up. I would never go back to this place!!!

Mohammad D.

Yelp
Authentic Indian veg food. We have tried papdi chaat, samosa chaat, bhel puri, chole and sugar cane juice and it was all very delicious.

George G.

Yelp
Our family's favorite in Texas for masala dosas! Closest to India we've found!!!! Always great! Wonderful family atmosphere! Well worth our 3-hr round trip! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
We love Indian food and were hoping for a great experience here since we haven't had much luck in Round Rock. However...our experience could have been better. I will say the food was good. The ambience and service really let us down. There are these odd little cocktail napkins on the table instead of normal sized napkins and the food came out in weird waves. First, the samosas. Fine. Then just my husband's order, which got cold while he waited for my order. Then naan bread. Then my order. Then rice. Do they not have a food warmer in back to keep it warm so it can all come out at the appropriate times? The service was ROUGH too. We sat there forever waiting for our bill and to-go boxes despite there only being 3 tables full. It would be good for take-out but until the service improves, we won't be dining at the restaurant.

Scott V.

Yelp
Excellent dishes and delightful appetizers! Fresh ingredients perfectly seasoned and prepared. Everything we had was delicious, not to mention reasonably priced. Plus the added pleasure of friendly smiling staff!! Definitely will be back :)

Al R.

Yelp
We moved to Round Rock 4 days ago and decided to try this place rather impulsively. It is located in a run down shopping center but don't let that stop you. The owners have taken great pains in trying to give the place an upscale ambience. The ceiling itself must have cost a pretty penny. However true to Indian style all the resources went into the ceiling. The walls are a harsh blue with areas where paint has flaked off. Quite jarring. All that is needed is a professional paint job or failing that just hand some old sarees as wall coverings. The parking lot has ample parking there not been too many busy successful businesses in the area. The service is abysmal. CleArly they have not hired a professional wait person. There was only one staff- a very young late teen female who clearly had been roped in against her wishes. She was totally disinterested. Took our order, repeatedly forgot the items we picked. Once the food came she sat in one spot staring at her mobile phone. Never checked on us once. In the end we had to walk up to her to request a bill. The food is what gets this place the stars. We had Dahi Puri which was excellent with the yogurt in just the right amount, not overpowering the puris. We also had Idli/Sambhar. The 3 idlis came out steaming hot, were soft and fluffy. The Sambhar was good. The red and green chutneys truly enhanced the experience. In addition we had bhel puri which again was excellent. Ingredients were fresh with no soginess. Two masala chais completed our meal - I would not order this again as it was served in paper cups. I would have preferred a proper cup. The stainless steel plates, jugs and glasses for water is a nice touch. However, if you must use this, and I think it is a great idea MAKE SURE THE GLASSES AND JUGS ARE WIPED CLEAN as water stains, spots and dust shows very well on these. In summary the food will hold this place up but to get the discerning customer there is still work to be done.

Nino L.

Yelp
Expensive, food is mediocre, horrible service and no flavor at all. Find another Indian restaurant to eat at.

David B.

Yelp
What an amazing dinner! Authentic! It tasted like the local food when I traveled thru India. I loved the friendly staff and the atmosphere of the new location. I will definitely be back again!

Key 1.

Yelp
Casual restaurant with excellent chaat and savory dishes. Ordered the dahi puri , puri bhaji , Ragada pattice and pav bhaji. All were very good. The pav bhaji was excellent ! Enjoyed the sugar cane juice. The hostess was pleasant and the food arrived quickly. Service was quick. The variety of items on the menu is good and the prices are reasonable for the quantity served. Will definitely recommend and visit again.

RL R.

Yelp
If you are vegetarian or vegan, look no further , this is a good place to eat Indian snacks , lunch thali , sweets and chat , we had pani puri and samosa chat, delicious. New location, fresh interiors and tasty food at affordable price cleanly served. What more do we want ? May be live music ;) will visit again soon.

Tj H.

Yelp
The food was great and the prices are really nice compared to other Indian places in the area; staff just needs to be a bit more present and enthusiastic, other than that, great atmosphere, and great Palak Paneer :D. I will definitely be returning in the future!

Laurie S.

Yelp
Went there with a friend from India. So she was very helpful in telling me what to order. The food and service was wonderful. The waitresses were very helpful in explaining the menu to us. I can't wait to go back.

Harsha R.

Yelp
CRAP ambience, food and service ! Opened a few weeks ago at this new location and everything is falling apart.

Ganeshkumar G.

Yelp
Swad's chaat items that we have tried have been are good. My wife swears by the dahi poor is. The recently introduced idli chaat is healthy and delicious. The freshly extracted sugar cane juice is great. The Garlic Naan fresh out of the tandoor is amazing.
