We came in to the restaurant and did not see anyone. It took several minutes for a grumpy old person to come out who didn't speak to us. So we stayed off a little shakey. HOWEVER, we had an extremely good waitress help us who was also very busy. You could tell she cared about her service. Major props to her! Lastly, 2 of the 3 of us agreed this was the best chicken Tikka Massala we have ever had in our lives. And we are old! Highly highly highly recommend coming to this restaurant.

I could not believe the amount of incredible food we got for just $15 on their lunch special. Each of us ended up with a main dish in addition to 6 other sides. A couple of the sides I didn't love but everything else was excellent, especially the chicken curry and kheer. Great vegetarian options. Beautiful interior. Our server was stretched thin over several tables but was still gracious and accomodating. We ended up with plenty of leftovers so we got to enjoy it the next day as well!

We had a truly disappointing experience at this restaurant. Despite the front seating area being mostly empty, the staff initially tried to seat us in an isolated, semi-cordoned area. The seating was shabby, and the floor was unclean, so we politely requested a table near the reception in one of the empty tables. However, they refused to accommodate our request and instead offered us a table in a similar isolated area on the other side of the restaurant, next to a table with dirty linens. This was despite the ample seating available in the front. The food was mediocre at best. The dals and curries lacked flavor. The garlic naan was acceptable, though.

I’ve have visited many Indian restaurants from the Canadian border to south Oregon, Swagat is hands down the best I have ever had. The atmosphere is charming, cozy and welcoming. Angelica our waitress was top tier amazing! She is so friendly and makes great suggestions based off of common things I’ve tried before. She’s fast, efficient but never hovered! Best waitress experience I’ve ever had. I live 4 hours away but I will be back because the food and the service was beyond anything I would have expected. I come here every now and then as we live close. The service is always good, they are very helpful and attentive. The food is fine. They have an extensive menu to choose from. I had their pakora yesterday for the first time. It was unexpectedly good, freshly fried, not greasy, they were fresh and crispy. I had shrimp saag and it was good. Not too spicy shrimp was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend Swagat if you are looking for an Indian restaurant.

We ordered onion pakora and the thali-style goat biryani. Initially, we were concerned about the portion size, but we were pleasantly surprised to find it was ample enough for 2-3 people 😅. We loved the pakora; it was well-fried and perfectly coated. The biryani was average, and the sub items in the thali also tasted just okay. However, the staff was very friendly, and the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere. We didn't have any issues finding parking, even though there isn't dedicated parking available.

A great place for those who like a variety of Indian food. Their lunch buffet is decently priced and the options are good. The place is clean and they also have a small parking lot (rare in NW area). I tried a bit of almost everything and they all were good. The sauces to me stood out and made everything more delightful.

Atmosphere: A little more modernized version of an Indian restaurant. Have a bar area as well. Food: Most of the food was good. Not the best Indian food I've had in town though. Price: The Goat Thali Lunch for $14.95 felt like a good amount of food for the price with a nice balance of options. It is $17 when dining in but includes a little more food as a result. Stopped in for a to go order and absolutely enjoyed the food and staff. I was able to place my order and run to the store, and by the time I got back, my food was pipping hot and ready for me! One of the chefs came out and checked on me and offered me a garlic Naan as it was my first time in. He was so nice and so happy that I was there. He really made my day! Everything was delicious! I got the Masada spicy, and it did not disappoint! My sinuses were very open and clear after just a few bites, and I loved every bite. I like that their sauce was on the medium thick side and had tons of chunks of chicken. They give you a good amount of food for their prices. I can't wait to come back and get some more!

unfortunately, the food and ambience of this place has tanked since 2022. This used to be our favorite Portland Indian restaurant because we were too lazy to go all the way to Beaverton or Bethany so we always came here instead. after having dinner here this week we realize we're never coming back again. We got the chicken, curry dish and goat curry dish. The dishes did not taste fresh and the temperatures were lukewarm. Also beware the appetizers that usually come with a table are now one dollar each if you want to ask for more I think they got new management. The service sucks; not coming back here anymore.

I LOVE SWAGAT. this is my favorite place to go when I am craving butter chicken or I want to go out for a nicer lunch with my coworkers. The food is amazing. The lunch special is unbeatable. You get so much food for the price. The chicken makhani is my favorite thing ever. The curries are fun to try that come on the thali plate. The service can sometimes be a little slow, or the server won't come to the table often enough. The inside is a bit dark and somewhat cramped. I highly recommend stopping by.

Great service and delicious food, their spice level is high so if it's your first time go on the lower side. The Biryani is my fave, it's perfectly spiced, the meat is tender and rice is fluffy.

Half decent Indian place. To start with it's quite Americanized. You don't really get to enjoy the real flavors of India. Stopped here for lunch. This place was busy, but they gave us a table almost immediately. Staffs were friendly and they handed over the menu. Many ala carte options were available, but we thought the Indian Thali is the best option. The wait time was around 10 mins. The Thali came with Chicken/Lamb/Paneer curry, chapatti, rice and variety of side curries. Chapatti was soft. Curries were ok, lacked the flavor big time. Some of the dishes were a little too sweet. Nothing great about it especially for the price tag. It's a big restaurant with bar also available on the other side. Ambiance is quite nice. Parking is limited. Service is good, but didn't feel its value for money!

Decent Indian food but it's nothing to rave about. FOOD We ordered an assortment of dishes. We got Chicken Curry dinner and Tandoori Chicken. Both dishes are just okay at best. The tandoori chicken was dry and flavorless and chicken curry is just good enough to pass. In comparison to what I ate growing up, this place just isn't it for me. SERVICE The service is decent and very typical stuff. Nothing really to rave about. The indoor ambiance is relaxing and culturally appropriate. I'd say it's a mix of south Asian and western style.

Have been a couple times now and both experiences were way off the mark flavor and heat wise. I tried the Goat Curry & Lamb Vindaloo both Indian hot, and neither were spicy like at all. The meat was cooked fine but when I go for Indian food I'm basically always wanting a rich hot curry that will make me sweat. I think this place has tamed their flavors a lot. To be fair, this review is only based on their curries. I still May come back to try their dosas, which are like crepes and sound like their house specialty. And there are some things I like about the place too - they bring you some papadam w/ some tasty chutneys upon seating. The main server guy is always friendly and cool. And their Thali Dinner option is pretty cool to add some sides of Raita and vegetable curry to make it a right feast. But I have to rate 3 stars bc having good curry is a necessity for Indian restaurants IMO.

Went into Swagat on a whim and I'm very glad I did, this is the best Indian food I've had in Portland so far! Swagat specializes in dosas, which look amazing, but we were looking for a more dinner-type experience. You can order a la carte like usual, or you can get a thali dinner which is your choice of entree plus naan, raita, dal, veggie special curry, rice and dessert. Seemed like the easiest and most affordable way to go, so I got the chicken vindaloo and Mo got the chicken saag. One tiny complaint first - the chicken was overcooked, a bit dry and tough. Other than that, I was VERY impressed by the flavors coming out of all the dishes. Layers of subtlety and also heat, very complex and delicious. Even the dipping sauces that came with the complementary papadum were incredible.

Ordered: -Chicken Tikka Masala -Butter Chicken meal -Mango Lassi -Mango Cocktail Pro: -Servers were attentive, friendly, and welcoming to my dog -They give a complimentary light starter with various chutneys -The curries had a deep rich flavor and hit the spot! Great food, decor and service! Really exceeded our expectations this afternoon. We were just looking for some Indian food and this showed up as the closest spot. We went there expecting something basic but turned out to be so so good! Chicken Tikka masala was extremely flavorful. Kheema with peas perfectly done. And we also tried the delicious dosas. They did every dish perfectly well. It's a true representation of Indian cuisine.. Mixing dishes from North and southern parts of the country. Looked like they had a very full bar too but I didn't get a chance to try and drinks this time. Overall great spot and definitely something I'd go back to as well as recommend.

Food: Just god awful. They do not have buffet anymore. Instead they bring this giant tray out with little cups of watered down garbage and then charge you a fortune for it. GOD AWFUL! Service: Just god awful. After you look at the three options they offer, you choose one, some mindless person brings it and thats all you ever see or get again. GOD AWFUL! Ambiance: They have like 6 parking spaces, all of them are always full and the day I went there was a landscaper working in the parking area so NO PARKING. Have you ever tried to park anywhere in NW? GOD AWFUL!

Outstanding! We drive over to Swagat from Southern Washington state just to enjoy their incredible food a few times a month. So good! Our favorites are the dosas, chicken tikka masala, lamb saag, and tandoori chicken skewers. The samosas are great too. The chai is a must-get. Very rich and heartwarming. Whenever we eat here, we also get a to-go order of various dishes to enjoy at home the next two nights. Also, the hospitality at this restaurant is fantastic. Every time we come, the hostess who greets us at the door also comes by to take our order and take care of us, and these lovely ladies are FANTASTIC at this job - so welcoming, friendly, and authentically nice. We always comment among ourselves how well this restaurant hires - the staff is great! Thank you for making us feel so welcome and taken care of. Swagat is legit! Come and enjoy!

I came here for lunch with a friend who highly recommended it, and now I'm your friend here also highly recommending Swagat. Finding parking was easy for me as there was parking available in the parking lot in the front, but there's also an abundance of street parking. When you walk in, you're filled with so many wonderful smells and if you weren't hungry before you are now. Our server was kind, knowledgeable and was able to teach me how to say the names of our dishes properly. Food came out prompt and the presentation was chefs kiss. My food was amazing and I cleared my plate. My friends food was also amazing and they cleared their plate as well. I highly recommend stopping by if you're looking for some good food

Extremely good Indian food and a great setting as well. Both my partner and I got the Thali dinner and it came with so much food that we took some home. Whatever the white sauce stuff that comes with it is, is so dang good mixed with a curry, we were both blown away. The cocktails are unique and tasty as well. A must go for all Indian food lovers.

I have always loved this place. Use to go when I was in high school, college and career. It's a great place to eat and the service is wonderful. The ambience is welcoming and friendly. The staff seems happy to be there. Food is still spot on! Hit it up! So tasty!

disappointed fur multiple reasons: 1. ordered malai kofta thali. everything was cold/ room temperature. except the naan, nothing was fresh at all. dal, sambhar were cold. 2. veggie of the day was plantains!!! really? which indian thali ever includes dry and hard to chew plantain chips?! 3. restroom was dirty with trash can overflowing of trash towels. why can't someone clean regularly? i was told we share the rest room with the other business... so??? 4. ordered malai kofta to be medium spicy, and it had no spices, but was in a sweeter side!!! 5. waitress not knowledgeable at all! she did not know if kofta curry comes with gravy, it is "just a curry!!!" 6. papadam were fried and then roasted. extremely disappointed. will never go to this again.

Once known for its AYCE buffet, finally a visit post Covid. Remembering how the entree platters were mounds of a meal, now the Aloo Gobi to-go in a small cup for $16? Not recommended for take out; portions are ridiculously small and no utensils or napkins were provided.

I would like to start by highlighting the positive aspects of my experience. The flavors were generally enjoyable, catering well to a more Americanized palate with an interest in diverse cuisines. (The food being very savory and some dishes especially high in sweetness,) which personally I am okay with. There were some unfortunate lapses. Regrettably, my order was incomplete, with certain items missing from the bag. Given the anticipation and the hour-long wait, it was disappointing not to receive my complete order. While I received a refund for the missing items, as told to input within Uber Eats, it didn't account for the additionally phased charges, which was a bit frustrating. I do feel the person on the phone felt their suggestions to be help especially considering it sounded busy. Moreover, the plain white rice that accompanied my dish had an unusual smell reminiscent of amm0nia or bl€ach. While I do NOT suspect any intentional mishandling of food, this smell is often associated with the presence of a b@cteria called bacillus cereus, possibly resulting from impr0per storage or refrigeration. I believe it's important to ensure the fr€shness and qu@lity of the food, even in a fast-paced business environment. In my attempts to resolve the issues, I contacted the restaurant multiple times, only to be redirected to handle the matter through the Uber Eats app. I was reluctant to do so, as it would involve initiating a formal health report in order to relevantly and/ or properly initiate my claim, something I had no interest in doing. It would be beneficial for the restaurant to have a more direct and immediate customer service resolution process in place. Some key words above are simply coded to avoid an algorithmic lash-back. I think this business deserves the equity of their efforts, so I didn't enter a formal report on any he@lth c0de, as I believe that is far too extreme for my interest. I simply wanted to have my situation considered without having to make more of it, but being turned over to my own autonomous resources simply lead me to leave a review, since my issue otherwise was left unresolved. I didn't know where else to safely guide this information.

While I'd love to give this place 5 stars, the last few times I've gotten take out it seems the portions have gotten smaller and smaller. I get the chicken tikka masala or the butter chicken (which comes with naan & rice for $18/each). The cartons are the same size every time, but I swear the last two times was about 2oz of chicken each and the rest the saucy goodness. It is delicious, but seems like not nearly enough meat to justify the price. Next time I will try to weigh it when I get home to see how much actual meat is included in that $18 price tag. The service is always great and the food is delicious but I think they need to be precise with their portions because it varies a lot.

I can confidently say that Swagat Indian Cuisine offers the best deal for Indian food in Portland! I recently tried their goat lunch special and was blown away by the quality and quantity of food. Not only was the goat tender and flavorful, but the fresh naan and assortment of dishes that came with it were all delicious and perfectly spiced. Hands down food for days. Stop me while I'm ahead.

Angelica was a joy as our server for dinner on our wedding anniversary at this wonderful Indian restaurant in NW Portland. She helped us with our order and made our anniversary evening even more special by being a wonderful server. The chicken tikka masala thali was very tasty! Portions were large and we left with full bellies and happy hearts.

Got the dosa, vada and veg thali. Almost every dish including the chutneys were terrible and in some instances inedible.

Obsessed with the chicken thali lunch special. You can eat like a king (or queen) for $16.95. The service is always good during lunch, it can be more hit or miss during dinner rush with the kitchen being inundated by delivery apps.

The Pearl location is comfortable, fairly dark lighting. Well-appointed. The service is friendly Zane helpful for those who may not know Indian cuisine as well. The food is very good. And they have a decent beer selection.

This branch is really spacious with many tables. The decor and atmosphere were very cozy and upon walking in you get hit with delicious smell of their buffet line and freshly made dishes that invite you in. Service was also very fast and nice. Unfortunately, those were the main things that stood out in a good way to me. The food itself, while very plentiful, was mediocre. It wasn't bad but it definitely left you wondering what's missing. We tried the South Indian Combo Plate that came with a Masala Dosa, Idli, and Urad Vada for dipping. Everything looked great but the Dosa could have been crispier and lighter while the vegetable curry inside was a little tasteless. I haven't had an Idli or Urad Vada before so I can't comment on them but I did like the texture of both. The taste of the Urad Vada was interesting, kinda like a potato but not. Anyhow, we also got the Palak Paneer Thali Dinner and, again, the portion was very generous. It came with both rice and naan (athough both of them could be fresher and warmer), and dessert! You can easily feed 2 people with one Thali. The taste of this one was better than the Combo Plate. The Palak Paneer was very creamy and tender. I liked the spinach but the paneer itself could be better. The sides were nice as well but they didn't quite hit the spot compared to other places that I've tried. Same with the Mango Lassi, not bad but not the best. So, all in all, not a bad place by any means but my search for a go-to spot for Indian cuisine in PDX continues.

I have been craving good Indian food lately, and Swagat Indian Cuisine came through! The menu was loaded with my favorite Indian foods: The samosas (with mango chutney) were hot, crispy, and flavorful. Next up, chicken tikka masala: rich, creamy sauce and huge chunks of chicken. Aloo mutter (veggie dish) packed a punch with its spiciness. Finally, the naan was perfectly baked and useful for dipping into the masala. Solid food. Good but not overly attentive service. I'm looking forward to my next visit. It appeared they were doing a busy carry out service too. Good job!

Great Food, the Service was nice and quick, the Ambiance was nice, it gave off a real relaxed setting / vibe and there was lots of options when it came to the food.

Idk I may be biased because I loooooove Indian food, but this place is pretty good and the two Indian girls I was with said the same thing and they are definitely the kind of girls that would say something if it wasn't. The only negative thing I heard was the lamb wasn't left to marinate overnight and had a very gamey flavor. Otherwise I ordered the malai kofta (I'm not 100% sure on what my friends ordered at this point in time) but I can definitely vouch for my dish and I get malai kofta at every Indian place I go to so I know what I'm looking for. I did notice they didn't ask us for spice level, so if you do want a spicy dish maybe ask. Otherwise service was quick and friendly and lots of seating, prices were pretty reasonable as well. Enjoy!

Friend recommended this place as their go-to Indian spot, so we had to try it when we were in the area. Ambiance was great and staff were incredibly friendly. Our server was really helpful in differentiating vegetarian and vegan options with one of our friends who is vegan. Having grown up in Malaysia, I love Indian food, and they really delivered. Most of us tried their Chicken Mahkni, which is equivalent to a butter chicken if you're more familiar with that. If you're a fan of spice, you can certainly increase the spice. I ordered a Very Hot which was perfect for me. The garlic naan was amazing, warm, fluffy, and super-garlicy. I ordered their Tandoori roti, but was a little disappointed as I was expecting more Roti Canai, but their dahl more than made up for it.

A classic in Beaverton and never disappoints. I've been there for lunch and dinner, and although I prefer the dinner atmosphere, lunch is good too.

Tasty food always. We love this place! It's our go to before Blazers games. It's far enough from the stadium that it's not crazy busy, but close enough to be in time for the game.

Ordered to go and food was pretty tasty. I ordered the chicken tikka masala with rice and naan. The rice was a bit dry but everything else was good. Their samosas are huge but very tasty! The mint sauce is very yummy and the nan was fresh and flavorful. Will definitely try again.

Lovely place to eat. Food is ok, prices are good , and the tandoori chicken is really good. The rest of the meal was ok, not bad but not the best. Then you note the beautiful red chicken thigh in the middle of a giant dish full of little dishes and so much fun to eat !

Got take out. Tasty but under seasoned especially the vindaloo. Naan was boring and seemed like a premade product. But overall good, next time I'll ask for it to be spicier.

I really wasn't a fan of this place. The food was iffy, and the service was bad. I guess let's start with the service. When ordering, I asked the waiter various questions about if certain things have tomatoes in them, because I don't like tomatoes. I forgot to ask if the actual chicken tikka masala has tomatoes. I've ordered it many times before at other restaurants and I don't think it ever has. Yes, I know it is a tomato-based dish. Yes I know I'm crazy for not liking _chunks_ of tomatoes. Anyway, it came with chunks of tomatoes. Some forsight would have been appreciated. When it came I wasn't sure if they were onions perhaps so I asked the waiter if they were chunks of tomatoes. He said he wasn't quite sure. I turned to my girlfriend and after an awkward silence for a second, he walked away before I was able to ask if he could perhaps check with the kitchen. Then, my girlfriend finished her food way faster than I did, and he asked us if we want some togo containers and a check like 30% into my meal. So yeah, that was the service. For the food it also wasn't good. - In each dish the chicken came out kinda stringy and dry. Maybe they didn't cut against the grain or marinade it? Idk, but it wasn't very good. - The pakkora did have a decent crisp to it, but the exterior could have had more flavor. - The dipping sauces were solid. - The naan wasn't the freshest and it could have definitely had a better contrast between chewy and crispy. - The lassi was nice, although I've had better. It was mostly just mango flavor, whereas at other places I've had a more complex flavor with coconut and one time even salt on the rim! I did like that it was kinda thick though, almost like a smoothy, and that the glass didn't have a ton of ice. When that happens you're done after just a few sips. Here I was able to enjoy it throughout the meal, which was nice. - The donuts were weird. The waiter described them as fried with some sort of sweet glaze. So I was expecting, y'know, what you'd normal think of when you think of fried donuts. Crispy on the outside, chewy and doughy on the inside kinda. That is not what these were. I think the best way I can describe them are like if you have very cake-y pancakes that are soaked in a very liquid-y maple syrup until they are saturated and mushy. Not good. And they were incredibly sweet. That sweetness really needed something else to contrast it. And again, a heads up from the waiter would have been nice. "They're not what you'd normally think of as donuts. Let me describe it to you." - The rest of the food was fine, if a bit underwhelming.

Honestly shocked by some of the lower star reviews that this place gets because 1. the food was pretty good 2. the service was super accommodating for a jain diet 3. prices are super fair for how much food you get. I dropped by with my family 2 days in a row and tried both the lunch special and other off menu items like samosas, pakora, and dosa. To be honest, everything was delicious. The veggie lunch special includes a TON of food; not only does it come with rice but there's also naan included. I definitely had leftovers for 2 more meals. The dosas, samosas, and pakora were all also pretty good! As I mentioned earlier, this place was super accommodating to my mother who has a bit of jain-ish diet. They were able to make her things without onion and garlic so that she could actually eat outside with us. Truly appreciated it. There is a fair amount of indoor seating here so you could potentially get in with a larger group if it's too busy. There is a very small parking lot so street parking is definitely more of the scene here. Swing by if you want a good meal~

No more buffet here. They have a lunch menu with three different options - vegetarian, chicken or goat (between $13.95 to $15.95, you can add a piece of chicken tikka for $2). The food was great, tasty and good portions. The service was amazing, our server was very polite and helpful. We live on the other side of town, but we will be back for sure.

Location NW 21st March 28 got seats at 11:30am. I ordered the vegetarian meal and lentil soup. I believe it was the pepper or cooking oil which caused me to vomit at 6:30P.

Went here on a surprisingly busy Tuesday, met up with a friend who had been waiting for a table. My friend has a dangerous seizure disorder and we specifically go to restaurants with booths so that it will break her fall, in case of a seizure. The host was insisting that she take a table, even after explaining the issue. She pleaded with other staff who eventually gave us one of the many available booths. Nobody gave us menus or brought us drinks, and it was clear that we were then quite unwelcome. The actually server was absolutely lovely, even though it was her first day. I would give more stars if that had been the only interaction. I can't understand why the host was so infuriated by a customers special needs. I know this sounds like people who just make something up to get their way, but even if we were, it's a weird hill to die on for table.

I had not eaten indian food in a restaurant for awhile, and tend to gravitate towards the cheap, down and dirty. However, this was not that kind of Indian place at all. It was clean, nice ambience, and you did not walk out smelling like you were working in Indian restaurnt for the last 8 hours when you left. That being said, at first clance I did have a bit of sticker shock, as the mali kofta that I was craving was $19, but then I noticed I could make it a tali plate for $5 more which did sound like a good value. It was so much food, and the mali kofta was so good, that just writing this review is making me salivate. I came here on my lunch break, and they were so efficent, that I had time to take city transportation to and from work, eat there, and still had a few minutes to spare.

Absolutely wonderful! I've been going here for over 10+ years. The mango lassi is refreshing. The samosas are huge and crispy without being greasy. I personally like the vegetable Samosa for a lighter experience but the lamb samosas are also good. The chicken makhani is the best! The sauce is so flavorful and velvety. My husband always gets the lamb vindaloo! It's spicy and has a wonderful depth of flavor. The mint green sauce is zesty and flavorful. If you want to vary the spiciness level of your food you have heat options. I personally get mild but my husband gets a step above that. Any higher and it is too spicy for us. The lunch buffet is probably the best deal in Portland for the variety and quality of food you can get, not to mention the amount. The decor is beautiful in a surprisingly large restaurant for the Pearl. The staff are always very polite and accommodating. This is a fantastic restaurant!
