Swagyu Burger Bar Opens This Week in the East Village | Eater San Diego

"I visited the temporary East Village pop-up across from Petco Park (on 10th Avenue facing the ballpark’s East Village gate) which opened Tuesday, October 1 in time for the NL wild‑card game; owner Steve Brown is running it as a playoff pop‑up to host watch parties for all home and away games while the Padres are in the postseason and hopes to stay beyond, then plans a complete remodel to reopen in early February as an East Village restaurant and cocktail bar. The pop‑up menu centers on the chef’s signature smash burger made with all Japanese wagyu — including the El Swagador topped with pork belly and smoked onions — accompanied by Japanese wagyu tallow fries and a full cocktail list, and the remodeled menu will expand to include wagyu short rib fried rice, ravioli with wagyu bolognese, and skewers of Japanese and Australian wagyu." - Candice Woo

Stopped in before attending the Brewers vs Padres game. This smash burger was put together perfectly. Outside edges were crisp and really seasoned to perfection. I wish they had a better selection of local beer. Service was outstanding and definitely worth it!

Been meaning to try one of these joints for a while. But a couple of them closed, I guess they changed ownership. The previous owner had overexpanded. The menu is pretty pricey, but the burgers and onion rings were absolutely delicious. I don't know how smashed burgers can taste so good because smashing it causes the juices to go out and generally makes it drier but the patties were excellent. They also have a discount for locals.I think it's ten percent.

Living In east village and close to downtown my wife and I find ourselves eating out more often then usual and going out for the nite life and what’s the best cure for a hangover? One a michelada and second a good greasy hamburger,so we’re excited when we saw swagu A5 opening and after a hangover from the padres opening day we where all in. Were greeted by a friendly host but we bypassed her and sat at the bar. The place reminded me of an old steak house but modern they have red and black decor with gold accents and a cool wine room. You can’t miss a score on any game since there’s a tv on every wall and a huge one on the outside patio. They offer a variety of alcohol from mid to high end liquor it’s a decent selection with about 24 taps and some bottle beers. We ordered a Michelada it was average at best he added a bit to much tomato juice. We ordered a OG swagu and a side of onion rings the burger looked amazing the taste melt in your mouth the burger was cooked to perfection I personally could have done without the sauce but it was good. The onion rings were over cooked but seasoned well. The prices are reasonable and I definitely will be back to try other items. I recommend it if you wanna watch a game or have dinner or just grab a drink. If you sit at the bar ask for Nico

I recently visited Swagyu Burger East Village 🍔 across the street from my building. unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. Nice venue , but the food did not meet my expectations. The Swagyu burger & chicken sandwich lacked flavor and chicken was cooked in dirty frier oil. Chieck patty was almost black. Additionally, the service was a bit rude and unaccommodating. I requested a change of item in my order and server Eugine refused to accommodate a change of food item. so I was forced to buy both items. I hope they can make improvements in the future. The place was empty despite a concert at Petco Park. Food is high price low quality. I hope management pays more attention to customer service. 👎🏾

So I work at Petco Park and I was absolutely floored at my recent visit to this establishment, as a matter of fact, it was today. I walked in and everything went well. I ordered the "OG" burger and the fries that were cooked in the wagyu fat. I was told it would be a bit so I agreed and sat down to watch a little TV there. When my meal was brought out, the runner repeated my order, a "OG" burger, No cheese and No pickle and a order of fries. So i took my meal and headed back to Petco to enjoy my lunch. As it would happen, I wasn't able to eat my meal until I got home. So I heated it back up and even before I took my first bite, I noticed there was cheese on my burger. So I offered it to my father, who was extremely pleased with the sandwich. I genuinely wanted to enjoy it but instead, my father had a great lunch. This isn't about getting something in return, it's about how truly DISAPPOINTED I am. As a matter of fact, I even tipped the lady who took my order. If anyone reads this, understand I spoke highly about the restaurant up until today. So you make your decision. For me?, I think twice about ordering again. Thanks for letting me share......

Easily one of the best burgers in SD. The Wagyu blend is insane — super flavorful and melts in your mouth. Fries were crispy, and the brownie shake was next level. Chill vibe, great service, and you can tell they care about quality. 100% coming back.

Yelp
Seriously, beef renderings smooshed together do NOT WAGU* Make! I actually had a $23.00 "A5" Swagyu Burger ...then they papered the windows last year. Still closed... The best REAL WAGU A5 fron the only prefecture in Japan, from my "Steak Quest" in my new place in San Diego is The Cowboy Star in my SD, 10th Avenue neighborhood of East Village, Petco Park, Little Italy AND the Gaslamp District. ALL of them within walking distance every day and night. I'm thinking about selling my car...I realized that I go for a week or move without starting it. Manhattan mates, any tips for urban living and minimizing auto headaches? Uber, Yellow Cab..apps? I can even walk to the San Diego International Airport from my condo... directly across the street from Petco Park's players entrance. Downside? A recent weekend of "EDM" Electronic Dance Music...was excruciating dense monotony! Gotta get new drapes. Steaks? Also try the best out here in SoCal... The Capital Grille in LA and Long Beach. Literally a cut above all but my favorite one disk steak place in Paris' 16th Relaise du Venice at Port Maillot....but I digress. SAN DIEGO, so far has Morton's a classic if you dine in the main room. The Brazilian experience at the Fuego (sic) table side meat selections are truly impressive. I'll mention one "Happy Hour" discovery...the Guinness World Record holding "Whiskey House" on 3rd Avenue in, once again, in the Gaslamp District, has a 4-7 unbeatable, IMHO, near half price menu that is nearly unheard of here in America's most expensive Date Night City!! I'll get my WAGU / SLAGU elsewhere.

Yelp
Great burgers!! The price justifies the quality. Best sweet potato fries. Secret sauce is a must.
