The 38 Best Restaurants in Mumbai, India - Eater

"Swati Snacks popularized homestyle, vegetarian, Gujarati snacks in Mumbai. Minakshi Jhaveri’s tiny restaurant has served the who’s who of the city and several foreign celebrities. Look for restaurant favorite suva panki, a pancake made with rice flour, steamed between banana leaves and flavored with dill. The fada khichdi is a homely preparation of broken wheat and lentils, guaranteed to heal your stomach. Chug a glass of sugar cane juice along with your food." - Sumedh Natu

Different menu and clean food prepared with good ingredients. Taste is good for some average for others. Best dish was Coffee Orange Ice cream followed with Panki uttapam. Kachori chat was average and Corn Handvo to be avoided (too dry). Bland decor and cheap plates for the price they charge. Overall, though food can be tried, it's way far from VFM.

This review is about the flagship outlet of Swati Snacks - the place from where it all started as they have gone on to become one of the most beloved eateries in Mumbai. Swati Snacks is famous for a very limited menu, great taste, piping hot food and excellent service. And that’s what you should expect. The menu is all vegetarian and no - they don’t serve alcohol. This is a quick service eatery but not be confused with a Pizza Hut or a Burger King. Everything here is fresh - no frozen stuff that’s heated up. All Swati Snacjs outlets are crowded with a 25 -30 mins waiting period regardless of the time or day. The taste is consistent and damn the food is hot (I did not mean spicy). It took me a good 20 mins to get in. But the good thing is it’s not a restaurant where people talk casually and take a couple hours to take down the food. All Swati Snacks outlets are clean, spotless and mostly stainless steel. The interiors are spartan but it’s the food, great taste and quick service that draws patrons. It’s just have a quick meal and make room for the next wave of patrons. I personally recommend the bajra (millet) khichu and bedai roti and aloo bhaji with shrikhand. They also serve fresh sugarcane juice. We were week looked after by Sandesh Mandhare - one of the friendly and responsive staff. And despite their excellent service they don’t charge you gratuity (service charge) which so many overpriced restaurants in Mumbai do despite pathetic service. We left a tip because they actually deserve it - the service is fantastic. They also offer takeaways. If you are in the Tardeo area, it’s easy to find them - they are located diagonally opposite to the Bhatia hospital. We ordered some takeouts and without any alcohol it cost INR 3000 for 2 of us which is slightly expensive I thought initially. But it was misleading - we tried 7-8 types of food and drink (together) including takeaways. So that’s reasonable. Always loved the food here and recommend you give it your love too…

Tried Swati Snacks and compared the food with Soam - their Paankis is better than others, rest of the food that I tried was mildly spicy - potato sabzi, gujrati kadhi and bedmi roti. Their shrikhand is the best, rich, creamy and smooth texture and adequately sweet.

Ordered tea and coffee. Both were good but the pricing is on higher side. . Ordered Chutney Panki, this was good. Then ordered Handva. It was ok ok. Not very crispy not very soft. Dahi batata puri was also good. Would recommend. . Best was paneer lifafe. The garlic and onion paste inside the paneer lifafe was superb. Only this dish would recommend or I would again go for if I went here again. Ghee roast dosa, again pricing is on higher side. . I would go to cafe madras or rama shray again rather than swati snacks. Considering the pricing here it is one time go. Went here because nearby there was an event. Won't specially visit this place just for food.

Awesome Parsi and Gujarati food ! The pudina panki made in Banana leaf is a dish that melts into your mouth ! Bajra uttapam , Beetroot appam , satpadi roti with Gatta nu shak are equally soul stirring ! Wish they open a restaurant in Thane West Ghodbunder Road as this part of town needs such great restaurants !

Nestled amidst the vibrant cityscape, Swati Snacks invites customer to experience Gujarati exquisite gastronomic journey. Each dish was a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with the finest ingredients. Must visit for once of a kind , unique experience. Suggestions: Panki Chutney - 4/5 Makai Handvo- 5/5 (recommended) Paneer Lifafa- 5/5 (highly recommended) Undhyu with Pundhina Jawar Roti- 3/5 Ghee Podi Idli- 5/5 Ghee Podi Dosa- 5/5 Pani Puri - 4/5 Bedai Roti - 3.5/5 Fresh sitafal icecream - 5/5 ( too good but bit costly) Malai Malpuva - 3/5 However, considering the price & fame, Management should work on adding some basic pleasing experience to customer thereby improving the seating space quality, chair quality and cutlery. The place is very narrow and inconvenient to dine in with medium -large families. The service was impeccable, attentive yet unobtrusive.
