Sway

I know that there's a downtown location but I have actually never been to Sway before. Upon walking in, I was very nicely created by the hostess and they showed my friend and I to where we were going to sit. Our server was extremely nice and she took our orders quickly. The interior decor of the place is actually really nice. It's very warmly lit and comfortable to be in. We got the curry as well as the pork ribs... It was so amazing. I highly recommend the curry. I posted some pictures so y'all can see what it looks like. It is so good!

I've been wanting to try this place for ages and finally made it for happy hour (great drink deals!). The food was amaaazing - everything is set up as a sharable, but I'm pretty sure I ate 80% of the crab fried rice all by my lonesome. The green papaya salad and shumai were perfectly balanced apps, the jungle curry had just the right 'make you sweat' slow burn heat, and the sugar crusted pork shoulder was crisp and succulent and perfectly offset by the accompanying sides. We also indulged in desert and, just WOW - some of the most gorgeous, interesting, delicious deserts I've ever had. The space is also nicely outfitted (and deceptively roomy), and even though I thought I'd be bothered by the 'shared table' setup I barely noticed the other parties sharing our tabletop.

Sway is a standout place in Austin when it comes to Thai food. There are so many unique flavors and ingredients to explore. Service is always friendly and courteous. Food is meant to be shared family style, so order a bunch of different selections and share bites of everything!

Sway is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in Austin. The food is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the Son-In-Law, Tiger Cry, and Jungle Curry. There is a lot of energy in the restaurant, so don't expect a quiet evening when dining here. The staff is great and knows the menu forward and backward. Don't be afraid to ask for their recommendations. We had a party of 8 for dinner and everyone walked away absolutely raving about the meal.

Love coming here for the quite unique flavor this place offers. Many veggie dishes offered here for vegetarians, but beware of the spice! Ask your server for some coconut milk to tame the heat down. Always a 5 star experience.

I arrived in Austin this afternoon. This was my first visit to the city...and obviously to Sway. Being road weary, I was dubious of the vivacious atmosphere and "shared meal" approach. It didn't take long to win me over. The engaging and encouraging wait staff provided a professional amount of encouragement and instruction. Our trio ordered items from across the menu. I would recommend this approach. None of our selections fell below excellent. High quality ingredients wonderfully seasoned. One item did rise to exceptional...the "son-in-law". I am including an image of the menu description. From my perspective, a must try. Great food, professional service, encouraging atmosphere, I hope I can per"sway"ed you to give Sway a try... If you are looking for traditional Thai food or huge portions, look away right now because Sway isn't about that. It is about great ambience, and fantastic and unique creative Thai dishes. Having said that, no matter what you pick from the menu, I can guarantee that you will love it because it is fantastic. The seating is one of a kind large table community type seating, I really like it. That seating stye is definitely amazing for bigger groups and couples alike. The papaya salad was amazing and so were the Thai iced teas. We ordered a chicken soup and a stir fry phat phrik khing which had very unique combination of ingredients and tasted amazing. The portion sizes are adequate but aren't large but any means but definitely sharable. We ended it with a dessert - the banana split and it is massive with 3 scoops of ice cream - milk chocolate, Oreo choc and salted caramel. So you must be wondering why a 4 star when I had such a great experience? Well let me tell you why. When I researched the place, I read a lot of reviews mention salty food and I thought it might just be an error but after tasting the food I can totally confirm that the food is definitely on the saltier side. I don't know why they haven't fixed it but I felt the same level of saltiness in multiple dishes, I wish it was less salty. I will definitely recommend this place though - great service and I'll definitely go back.

May you be swayed one way or another. I've been to Sway multiple times at both locations: down South and in the Rockrose area. I have my favorite staples: blue crab fried rice, son in law, and soft shell crabs. They have never disappointed me. But watch out for the catch of the day or at least stay away from the fried version of whole fish. It's not for the weak hearted and very labor intensive to eat. The presentation is impressive, the skin is crispy, but the flavor is lacking. Now make sure you try the prawn miange, a dish truly made with Asian ingredients. Devour the whole thing wrapped up in the perilla leaf. The earthy flavor of the leaf and the salty flavor of the shrimp with other extra flavors from the other garnishes are a divine combination. Shu-mai is also fun to look and good to eat. The wrapper is actually pad-thai and the dipping sauce is sour (similar to the cucumber vinegar concoction served with satay). Shrimp congee - their take on the shrimp and grits - is too salty to my taste. Mango forbidden rice sundae is also not my favorite; there is too much fusion going on, and you might find it tough eating purple rice as dessert. Oh, if communal seating is not your thing, you might want to make it your thing from now on ;)
