Sway Thai Fusion was recommended by a friend who lives in Woody Creek. She said she had a fantastic experience so of course she wanted her Florida friends to check it out.
We arrived and the ambiance was really artsy and earthy. Loved it! (Taurus vibes!)
We were seated right away and the seating was roomy and comfy. I loved that their menu was a manageable size and there weren't an astronomical amount of choices. We asked our server, Daniel (who was fantastic btw), for suggestions and we were steered in the right direction!
First courses included the appetizer special - salmon miange, and dumplings crispy pork + shrimp * fermented black bean, kewpie mayo, herb salad, red nahm jim. Ohhhh my gosh both of these were so freakin' good I was making all the food noises and couldn't stop! lol The dumplings were covered in crispy shallots and the spicy sauce was whoooo spicy but the flavor--mwah! Couldn't have been better. Those salmon bites were served on bai cha plu (wild pepper leaves I believe) and wow, were they just succulent. The salmon was fatty and rich. The lemongrass was so refreshing. I could have eaten twenty of those things, but I digress.
The second courses were the chicken pad Thai and the panang curry with short rib. I say that I've never had a panang curry like what Sway offers. The pad Thai was beautifully prepared. They didn't mail it in. The most commonly ordered Thai dish was definitely given its due respect. But that damn panang curry. It was so unique and earthly! Not the pink/red/creamy typical panang curry I've had in the past. It was a deep brown, almost like mole but with coconut cream added and the meat was juicy and tender. My mouth was overjoyed.
Let's get to this dessert though! I want it right now. I think I'll want it everyDAY for the rest of my life. It was a banana mousse brulee. Typically I never get dessert at Thai places b/c they are just wack. Either over sweet or just not my thing ("fried" ice cream, fried banana, etc.) But this dessert was one of the top ten desserts I've had this year so far. I was like a bananas foster creme brulee. It was so freaking good, I wanted to order another one immediately! But I was afraid the Aspen Task Force of Acceptable Social Activites would swoop in and arrest me for big back behavior :( Overall, I was thoroughly pleased and I can't wait to return. I hope Sway can hang in Aspen's highly competitive restaurant scene. I don't drink so I can't speak to the cocktails but the food was spectacular. Thank you Sway, you have my heart!
Another review giving it to you straight, no chaser! Enjoy! ;)
