The 14 Best Bars in St. Paul, Minnesota | Eater Twin Cities

"Sweeney’s, a beloved neighborhood bar, has one of St. Paul’s best craft beer lists. A handful of local perennials (Surly Furious, Liftbridge’s Farmgirl, etc.) are complemented by a rotating list of brews and ciders for variety’s sake. The happy hour (every day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) is killer, and in the summer, Sweeney’s opens its huge, multi-story patio — though it’s hard to imagine a cozier evening than traipsing through the snow for a basket of plump chicken wings and an IPA." - Justine Jones

Google
Im so happy that i found this place! I love the outdoors area and the cocktails starting at 7$ are a great deal and tasty. Happy hour 1.50$ tacos are also a great deal. I also live their cheese curds! Overall great place for summer hangouts!

Google
This is a great pub with a fantastic atmosphere! The service was incredibly friendly and impressively fast. We ordered the prime rib, which came as a generous sandwich with a fresh, flavorful salad on the side. We also tried a half basket of fries, which were perfectly fresh and crispy. The overall vibe was enjoyable and welcoming. Whether you’re looking for good food or a relaxing place to hang out, this pub is a solid choice. Highly recommend!

Google
Fantastic patio! Lots of shade as well to stay out of the sun. 6 or so NA beer options which was so appreciated! There is smoking allowed on the patio so just a heads up if that’s a thing that bothers you. It wasn’t too bad but it was occasionally noticeable. The mini slider was just the perfect amount of food. And our server was zipping around at the speed of light and also incredibly friendly.

Google
I love an Irish pub and this one delivers in atmosphere and brews. The menu was small, but the portions were sizable, and delivered quality. I had the grilled walleye and it delivered in flavor without being too heavy for a humid day. We had a summer rain shower last minute and the servers did an amazing job of moving people inside without missing a beat. I also think this place is very reasonably priced as I felt like $30 for an entree and two draft beers!

Google
Stopped here with my 5- and 7-year old kids for lunch. Say on their patio, which is such a vibe. Had the chicken wings. These suckers are huge. I had the Thai and buffalo sauces. They were good enough. The chicken tenders are hand breaded and delicious. Beer selection was good. Beer wasn't quite as cold as I would have liked. Overall, great place.

Google
Pretty solid food in a nice little area of St. Paul,MN. Bar definitely feels like it's a place that people in the surrounding area come to hang out. Wings are huge for size and decently priced. A basket of fries is more than enough for four people. Cheese curds were good but like any fried food. You have to eat them quickly before they get cold. Definitely would go back with a group of friends to grab beers and eat the food or

Google
Nice patio but could use a little tlc. Heard food not good so thought a burger safe. It was overcooked with just ok fries. Leaving review in hopes for improvement as it is a great spot with much potential.

Google
We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Sweeney’s. The communication was stellar before the party. However, when we arrived, there were not enough seats for everyone. What was supposed to be a joyful evening turned stressful as we tried to manage adding more tables into the tight space. Eventually the staff helped us turn the night around and were very sweet. The food was just mediocre. There was no audio which was not clear since we were told there was a projector and AV system. On the way out, my mother slipped and fell on a patch of grease inside the bar. None of the staff cared to clean it up until my dad talked with the person serving our party. It sounds like the bar is under new management and staff are overwhelmed.

Yelp
I heard this place was owned by a mean old alcoholic who used to have gay orgies here. Now he put it into a trust to give it to a baby. Cool! As a person experiencing destitute poverty, I love getting the Poor Man Special for lunch. This would have more 5 star ratings if the patrons did not get so drunk that they forgot to review it. Excellent staff

Yelp
The Visit St. Paul Patio Passport program took me here. We did sit on the patio & it was a cool chill vibe. It was literally like a backyard/courtyard. We decided to just grab drinks. I got a drink and a shot. The shot was really good, it was called the Love Bomb the drinks were decent overall. The waitress was pretty attentive and nice. Not sure if the parking lot across the street belongs to them but we parked there and it was very convenient for us otherwise it was pretty busy in the area for street parking.

Yelp
Great dive bar! Their food and service are fast. We have been on many occasions and returned this week craving a late night drink. Don't expect any extra fluff but the place is clean, service is efficient, and the clientele seems to be a good mix of local people and service industry workers. They have a mystery shot for $4 which I love - great fun way to get rid of bottles that aren't getting flipped! Drink prices are very reasonable and they have a poor man's special for a daily food choice to save some money as well. Food is American fare done well, not the cheapest but good quality and definitely a bargain compared to some of the bars that charge an arm and a leg for a simple sandwich. We will continue to frequent this place and bring our friends. Great place to chat if you don't mind a little background noise. TVs also often playing weird movies which is fun too. Overall just a nice ambiance to grab a beer!

Yelp
Stopped in on a cold snowy evening for dinner with friends. Nice atmosphere and comfortable seating. Great and knowledgeable wait staff. I ordered the soup first -which was chicken and dumplings. It was just like my grandma used to make! It was delicious and thick and creamy and the dumplings were so light and fluffy. I also ordered the 1/4# burger which , unfortunately was a huge disappointment! It came with cold fries and even though I ordered the burger medium, it was way over cooked and dry. The massive pile of lettuce on the burger also made it chilled. I know they can do better and maybe the 1/2# is the way to go.

Yelp
It's a great little neighborhood bar! The dark ambiance is of the cozy variety, and the staff are willing to help out (even if you do show up with a large group--just tip generously, okay?). The drinks were normal and the food was solid bar fare. I'd swing by Sweeney's again!

Yelp
Came for drinks, and it was a good night. Nice ambiance with great oldies music. The service was great and I never felt like I wasn't being served. My drink was okay. My only complaint was that given the price of drinks my drink was too much mixer and no alcohol. Overall, besides the drink, Sweeney's Saloon is a nice bar to go with friends and have a good time.

Yelp
First time here, I've heard lots of great things for a local neighborhood bar. Parking is not bad, I found a spot down the neighborhood street, about a 2 minute walk. I met some friends and they were out in the patio. I walked through the bar to the back! The inside looked a little crowded with seating, but that's to be expected in a smaller location. It definitely gives the saloon vibe with the wood floors and ambiance. I like it! The patio is so cool. Lots of smaller sections to sit, lighting is awesome, and there's a bar outside as well with servers walking around. Such a great spot!! Definitely worth a visit just for the patio. Beer selection was alright. They were out of ciders and sours at the time. I got a berry wheat ale and it was super refreshing! Our server was attentive, but with a packed patio, we were hoping he would come around more often then he did. He was great though and patient with our ever growing table! Food was also delicious. I just ordered a basked of fries (their mustard Mayo was quite good) and it was surprisingly good and large, but someone else I sat with had a chicken quesadilla that looked great.

Yelp
Wings on point, beer list is good, vibe is cool... lots of nostalgia at this one. Give it a go

Yelp
Classic place for a beer but the food isn't worth the stop. Had the so called fish and chips. Should say fish sticks frozen from a box and the fries lacked any kind of seasoning or salt. Will get a beer but no frozen food for me

Yelp
After many years I went back to this place last night with a couple of friends for some beers. The place was pretty empty so we were able to sit down right away. It took our server 10 minutes to take our beer order. We got our order in and watched our server stand behind the bar chit chatting with others for 15 minutes before he finally went to the bartender to give him our order. We sat for maybe 20 minutes and ordered another round only to wait for our server once more. We watched him flirting with others around him before placing our order once again. Needless to say we won't be going back. Also, be aware that a pitcher of IPA ( small pitcher too ) will run you around $30 with tax which is kinda nuts tbh.

Teri D.

Yelp
I went there for lunch today. It wasn't busy but it took forever to get menus and another long wait to place the order. Our food arrived and I took one bite of my flavorless chicken sandwich. I tried several times to get the server's attention to request a salt shaker. Unfortunately it would have taken much more than salt to help the dried, overcooked bird. One more bite before I called it quits. The server never checked back to see if we wanted/needed anything else and we had to ask twice for our bill. Bad food and terrible service. It's been years since I've been at Sweeney's and I will never return. 0 out of 10.

Yelp
Three stars is a-ok in my book. Sweeney's Saloon is an old timey neighborhood bar in a beautiful Victorian building in one of the loveliest and most historic neighborhoods in the United States (Cathedral Hill in St. Paul). It has a small number of sidewalk seats and a cool back patio with large trees growing through the platforms. We got a couple beers and appreciated the slightly above-average selection (it's not just Coors and Miller Lite here). Among others, they had Bent Paddle, Modist, Urban Growler, 3 Floyds and a bunch of others. The chips and salsa ($6) features great homemade chips, but the salsa was sugary sweet and not right. Skip this. I also got a build-your-own-burger with Beyond Meat ($12 + $2 for the Beyond patty). This was a classic pub burger and fine, I guess, but the char-grill stripped out the flavor of the Beyond patty. The french fries that came with the burger were dry and under-salted, so they didn't really hit the spot. Sweeney's also has one tater tot dish, but it's not vegan (covered in dairy products). Strangely, they won't just make you a plain order of tater tots. Come to Sweeney's for a drink with the locals in an atmospheric space in an amazing neighborhood, but don't expect much from the food.

Yelp
Sad to see humiliating service at a Saint Paul staple. I went in with some family, 9 people, this past Sunday after Palm Sunday mass. When we arrived we were seated with server Mitch. The first think he greeted us with was a snarky comment about how parties this large should call before coming in. This was the beginning a meal whose service was embarrassing to Sweeney's to say the least. It took him 15 minutes to get out order, and when he did he seemed so frustrated with us and angry taking our order, we were not quite sure what to do. He kept making passive aggressive comments toward us, and making our business seem like a burden on him and the restaurant. I vividly remember watching him put our order in the computer, here he kept putting his face in his hands seemingly anguished. He made all of us feel unwelcome there, and gave us disrespectful service. We can only assume that this disrespect emulated from the automatic 20% gratuity at Sweeney's. I am not someone who would let my service go without a good tip. However, this service was so deplorable that Mitch would be crazy if he thinks we would have given him one. Mitch was very rude, and judging by his service I think he is not apt to be in hospitality, his attitude making him better equip for something like the DMV. I frequent Sweeney's and will not be eating there any time I see Mitch there with me. He really is a disgrace to the establishment. We are a Catholic family, and over half our party is now, or once was severe themselves. We all frequently eat out around Saint Paul and are not a difficult group to please. I hope that Sweeney's will reconsider their servers. I do not believe it will be hard to find people better than Mitch as he truly did provide the wort service that I have ever had. Just to reiterate, we felt as though the automatic gratuity made him fell as though he could treat us however he wanted. Please do better Sweeney's Mitch really is scraping the bottom of the barrel

Yelp
Patio in the back is awesome, you'll appreciate the tree cover on a sunny day. Happy hour specials make it feel like 1990's pricing on tacos and tap beers. Service is on par with what you'd expect from a saloon. Definitely worth paying a visit to Sweeney's.

Alice C.

Yelp
Sweeney's has always been a go to choice for our friend group. The patio is one of the best around, and we have been pleased with the food, drinks and service over the years, especially given we are usually a larger group. We recently attended a comedy event in the upstairs area and are excited about the idea of additional new and fun social opportunities in the neighborhood. We will be back!

Yelp
Where do I begin.. I am at a complete loss of words with my experience last night. Just to begin I was very excited to revisit Sweeney's after it being over five years since I have been there. My friend and I went to grab a drink after a long week with sick kids, so I was just happy to be sitting down with a good friend having some good drinks and appetizers. The night went well. Our server was very friendly. Midnight comes around and my friend and I were finishing up our drink, as were quite a few others in the establishment. At about 12:05 PM there was someone clearly very drunk, sitting at the bar, but seemed to know the staff and started playing screamo music over the speakers and screaming "get the F*** out of here" it happened twice.. so we were trying to wrap up our story, and all of a sudden he approaches our table grabs the menus and tells us we need to leave right now very aggressively. My friend explained we were just finishing up our drink, and he continues to grab her drink and shakes it in her face and says she is done. He continued to stand over our table while we were getting our jackets on when my friend asked him to please step away as she felt uncomfortable. He said no, and continue to stand there over us. From there, he started hysterically laughing at us in a very scary and uncomfortable way clearly trying to intimidate us and my friend again asked him to please step back as she was scared. We quickly got our jackets on and started leaving and I asked the bartender if he had worked there and she said that he does. I am appalled by what I experienced last night. It was totally out of left field and honestly very scary. I don't know what this man's name is but This was completely unacceptable and looking to pursue further action. This man should not be working here and unfortunately, we will not be returning and will be spreading the word about this so other don't end up in this situation as well.

Yelp
We recently held a small, casual retirement party at Sweeney's in their Ashland Room. Everything was perfect. Nikki, their events organizer, was a joy to work with. The room was well-suited for our gathering, their list of beers and ciders on tap was adequate, the appetizers were very good and plentiful. (Don't miss the Cajun chicken wings!) And the price was very reasonable. They allowed us to bring cupcakes, and provided a separate table for them, a tiered display for the cakes, and a basket of small paper plates, napkins and forks. But best of all was our waitress! Mackenzie is a gem -- managed to keep drink orders straight for our cash bar (without a note pad!), run drink tabs for our guests (no need for them to pay each time they ordered), and responded quickly to any special requests we had. (Plus serving a few tables in the bar at the same time.) She kept her cool and her sense of humor. Our guests are still talking about the party and Mackenzie. And several of them are considering Sweeney's for their next gathering.

Yelp
The patio is amazing. The evening vibe on the patio feels cozy and intimate in a fresh but old setting. The service was great paced. We had the gyro and it was delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful. The taziki sauce was the best I've had in the metro. They have a great beer selection. This would be a great place to meet up with friends or go on a date. It's totally a hidden gem of the city.

Yelp
One of Saint Paul's old neighborhood bars. You're gonna like the back patio...start there if it's nice out. Cold out? Snuggle up to either the outdoor or indoor fireplaces. Hockey fan? Expect knowledgeable fans watching the game on the TV's. Large group? Reserve the back room. In a hurry? Go somewhere else.
google avatar

Diane S.

Yelp
This bar is phenomenal, the service is outstanding! But please please dont sell this crap as a Reuben sandwich. Probably the worst thing I've eaten! House made chips with no season not even salt! It was pretty bad! But I loved loved loved the service and the place! Great drinks! But dont get the Reuben!

Timmy V.

Yelp
the $1 tacos from 3-6pm are amazing!!!! all the bartenders and servers are so kind and helpful. If you're new to the St. Paul area, come here!!! #sweeneys!!!!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite neighborhood pubs. The patio is gorgeous and a great place to hang in the summer. There is a solid beer list. The food is typical pub fare but very well done. Because I like this place so much, I reserved one of the event rooms for a baptism luncheon this past summer, and was very happy with the catered food and service. The event staff was pleasant to work with and the price was very affordable. I would definitely host another family event here in the future.
google avatar

Roxanne S.

Yelp
Outstanding service. Food is fine, it's just classic St Paul bar food. Lots of beer on tap. Neighborhood feel, very cozy and warm. Can be very loud, uncomfortably loud, if that's challenging for you - avoid this place during busy hours. Patio is beautiful, really a great representation of the neighborhood. St Paul staple, swing by for a happy hour, stay for dinner type of place ;)

Yelp
Great fries and Paloma! Had an enjoyable sit with my little sister at this venerable old bar. Charming

Yelp
The barkeep was very accommodating. My mother and I had a great time after being turned away from another local eatery. The chili is really good. Pro tip: top the chili with cheese curds. So yummy.

Yelp
Love a place with a large beer selection and a chill bartender. Good vibes, good food, good beer. Can't go wrong here!
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner. Good food, and service. Prices reasonable, and decent beer selection. Had the hangover burger--good bun and cooked the perfect medium--which is rare. Quesadillas are very good and just different enough. Tried the soup of the day too--holy flavor (it was green pork chili)!! Will try and come back for highly recommended happy hour and tacos, since everything was great tonight!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! The food here is way better than expected every single time, yet not overly priced like other joints in the area. Drinks are delicious and well poured, yet also much more reasonably priced. Beer choices are endless, atmosphere is super cool, local, and relaxed. The people that work here are so chill and nice, feel like you made quick friends! Hubby and I love this place more each time we come, and I'd say we've been here about a half dozen times.

Christopher M.

Yelp
best local bar in northeast philly, great staff, great music, great times. I just wish I didn't fart last night, because after I farted i had to go home
google avatar

Jenna H.

Yelp
Great neighborhood spot. The menu and food have improved, which means I'm bumping my old 4 star rating to a 5! My husband loves the new birria quesadilla. I am a fan of the walleye. The best part about Sweeney's is the staff. They are friendly and welcoming, and most of them have worked there for years. Also, the prices can't be beat! There are always $4 Coors taps and you can get a "beer of the month" for $5. When it's warm, the patio is the place to be. When it's cold, it's nice and cozy in the large booths inside.
google avatar

Lauren N.

Yelp
Came here for just a drink after dinner and was happily surprised to find this little gem of a patio. Really cool layout with multiple elevations of a wooden patio with cute lighting and a really casual and comfortable environment for a chill evening. Also, always love when a restaurant has a parking lot! My friend and I were easily able to get a table on the patio on a Friday night. Our drinks were pretty standard, fairly inexpensive cocktails that were refreshing and satisfying- they seem to have great happy hour deals as well. I would definitely go back to hang out and try some of their food!
google avatar

Juan F.

Yelp
We went here recently for a relaxing beer on the patio at night. Beers were tasty and fairly priced but we moved three times and each time someone sat next to us and started smoking. Signs everywhere saying no smoking, waiter just chatted/laughed with the smokers all night. Won't be coming back here and don't recommend it unless you want to leave smelling like cigarettes.

Tony W.

Yelp
My wife and I were in St. Paul last Sunday looking for a place to have lunch and a couple adult beverages. I suggested Sweeney's. Upon arrival, I asked a server if it was ok to seat ourselves to which she said yes, so we did. I could see she she was busy so I went to the bar for drinks. The server must've taken exception to this as she proceeded to ignore us for at least 20 minutes all the while seating and serving others. Finally, I was able to get her attention and she curtly said she'd be back. 10 more minutes of serving others and ignoring us went by. Drinks now empty and stomachs growling, we threw in the towel and left. Ended up having a wonderful lunch at The Gnome.
google avatar

Seth F.

Yelp
Long time patron; I should have reviewed earlier. Sweeney's is an enigma. Great bar, great patio, relatively creative menu. Super location and space. Why can't they get service right- specifically drink and menu service on the patio? I mean we've been 3 times in the last few months and each visit the service gets worse. It didn't start at 5 either Wish I could rate it higher, with the loss of Ferns, Kelly's Depot and others - true neighborhood grill and bars are definitely on the endangered list. Luckily Sweeney's atmosphere remains friendly and the food is palatable. Otherwise, the turtle pace and noticeably grumpy staff are becoming inexcusable. Also get some kid-friendly options. Expand your base. Survive!
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
The outside patio is probably the best thing about this place. It's a good place to go on a cooler night with the fire crackling in the big fireplace or to have a few on the deck sitting under the lights strung in the trees. Food is nothing to write home about. Drinks specials are alright. Service can be hit or miss.
google avatar

Sue S.

Yelp
I definitely see why this place is popular. It's got a nice relaxed vibe and a super cool patio with wonderful overhead heaters that help keep you warm even if it's a cool night. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Sweeney's, but the rest of our experience was kind of so-so. First of all, parking is a mess. Near the intersection of Selby and Dale, street parking can be tough. There is a lot, but it's small and there's only one entrance/exit, so it's easy to get stuck in there if there are no spots available. Second, though the atmosphere on the patio is lovely, that's about all. The beer selection is decent - a nice selection for beer lovers. But it really turned me off that the beers are served in plastic cups. I know we were on the patio, but really? A plastic cup? That is so NOT the same as an ice cold frosty pint glass. I also felt that the beers were small -- not the normal amount of ounces either. So I've got a small, warm beer in a plastic cup that I'm being charged the normal $5 or $6 for that most bars would charge. Third, the food is just OK. We sampled a number of the appetiezers, including the chicken fingers, both kinds of egg rolls, the spinach and artichoke dip. They were all mediocre and overpriced. I doubt we will be back unless some of our friends want to go there. And even then we might try to persuade them to go elsewhere.
google avatar

Deserea L.

Yelp
Fish and chips was awesome! I really liked the tartar sauce. Hand a friendly server. It was great on my trip. I like that they offer two happy hours but nothin too spectacular on the Happy Hour menu. I believe it is 4 beers and .95 cent tacos, didn't try them but sounds like a. Good deal!
google avatar

Robb R.

Yelp
I'm probably biased but I have moved Sweeney's. This may be because I spent tons of time here during College and Law School. It may be because it just reeks of St. Paul (in a neighborhood not a commercial area). It may be the amazing patio or the fireplaces. Maybe it's the great wings (a bargain since you get the drummie and other part). But to be honest it's the place where I met my wife and that just makes it better. The only thing missing is the Pastrami Pepper Jack Stacker, the best sandwich which left the menu for sandwich heaven about 5 years ago.
google avatar

Lenore K.

Yelp
I really like this place. In fact I can't think of any shortcomings. Parking is a bit tight, par for the area. I have done both lunch and Happy Hour here. For lunch, I'd recommend the truly tasty taco salad. A simple thing yes, but one that too often turns into soggy ground beef and mediocre lettuce. This one is crisp and flavorful. Burgers here are also good and made to order with respectably good bread. It's a bar food sort and f place, but the bar food is good. Check out the patio! Cute, smallish, nice fire pit and comfortable. For peak times there is an outside bar. Service is virtually always good. I commend the staff for handling a full house well. Happy Hours are not the cheapest in town, but a good solid drink, beer, or wine can always be found. The wings and other apps are all good too. Overall, I think Sweeney's is one of the best neighborhood bars in either side of the Cities.

Yelp
They've got a great outdoor patio, and if you come on a Sunday for lunch you might have it all to yourself...minus 1 or 2 people. Which is strange cause you'd think this place would attract a bunch of hipsters, The outdoor space is enclosed with high walls. It's almost rustic/garden like, with no garden. I've came here a few times during the summer months only, the inside of the place smells like shit, (you know that moldy bar smell? It's like that) I walk through it to get outside and it's enough to make me want to vomit. I've had no desire to come during colder months...but I still like this place. I've also now discovered the entrance in the back to get directly to the patio. Yay. The menu is fairly simple, appetizers, burgers, wraps, fish and chips, the typical bar foods, but I've never ordered anything I didn't like. The burgers are pretty awesome, try the black and blue, or the diablo. The fries with the tangy mustard sauce is damn good, oh the giant wings I like a lot too. They also have a daily "poor man" special. Perfect for cheap people like myself. They've also got a good beer menu that changes often. Service has always been great. They're friendly, fast, and efficient. Once we got a basket of cold fries for the table and the manager got a new hot basket out quickly. She asked if we wanted to keep the cold fries without the charge. Hell yeah. Free is fine with me, they might have been a tad cold, but still crispy. I'll be back this summer.

Yelp
Casual setting. We went for Sunday brunch. Food was good. We both had a Bloody Mary, mix was chunky but tasted good. No complaints. Server was great, will go back.

Yelp
New go-to watering hole. We are soon going to be moving to the area and decided to check out the local pub, Sweeney's. It was a nice day which equals patio time. We went in the front door just to check out the inside. It was nothing fancy but is the perfect feel for a neighborhood classic. The patio is really where this place shines though. The patio is pretty big and has seating in 2 separate deck areas or just on the concrete. There is a really cute mural painted on the back wall which includes some critters and local breweries. There is a bar in the back but they also provide table service. Our server was very nice and attentive. Our beers never went empty. Sweeney's has a good beer list with local favorites. Their happy hour is amazing I believe it's every day. We went on a Saturday and got the happy hour deal. We also ordered some appetizers so we could try a couple different things and share. I had to get their stuffed tots. Also, I have heard their nachos are pretty famous. I was not disappointed by my choices. The nachos are covered in cheese and piled high. The shining stars of the night were the tots. They are huge and filled with cheese, bacon, and some other yummy things. Oh, I should also mention they have a big fireplace on the patio. It was too warm for a fire when we went, but I bet it's amazing to cuddle up next to on chillier nights. All in all, we LOVE Sweeney's and once we officially move to the neighborhood, we will be here all the time.

Yelp
As others have mentioned, Sweeney's is largely known and adored for its patio. And that's the way it should be - it's a great spot to relax on a summer day (or even a cool fall day given the fixed overhead heaters). The interior is more classic neighborhood bar, but still cozy. Sweeney's menu, tap list and specials mirror that of fairly typical bar fare. From a food stand-point you'll find the usual suspects - burgers, wings, nachos, etc. and they're fine for what they are. The draught list usually has about a dozen or so beers available and there's usually a few decent choices among them (usually slanted towards local). Overall it's a nice neighborhood spot, and given its proximity to other watering holes like the Muddy Pig, Happy Gnome, etc. it's a good bookend to one of my favorite parts of St. Paul.

Yelp
When craving a fun night on a patio... And needing some good bar food... This is your place! The nachos are covered in topping. Beans, cheese, meat... Seasoning... Wowser! The fries are my other staple. Salty and thin sliced decadence. With my Whisky ginger with lemon and lime.... Fries and nachos... Half beef half chicken... I am ready for an awesome night with friends. Sweeny's never fails to deliver on a night of laughs and good food. They offer a poor mans special which I think is last nights special... Thank you for having options but like most places I stick to the same thing! Fries and nachos is where my heart is at. Everyone knows when I go somewhere with good nachos.... I am getting them. I eventually learned to share but trust... That was not easy!

Yelp
As everybody else has mentioned, the patio at Sweeney's is great. In fact, it's downright magical. It's a perfect oasis off the street covered with trees and pretty stone fireplaces. I can't think of a better patio to enjoy a drink on, honestly. Their wings (we got cajun-style) were VERY good and quite large. The skin was perfectly crisp-just how I like them. I'd go back for the wings alone. We also got an order of nachos, which were really underwhelming, and they charge 0.75 cents for sour cream. That's insane to me. We also had a waitress that was super inattentive, which really soured my perfect patio buzz. But, the summer is young. I'll be back again for the wings and the patio.

Yelp
Great outdoor patio with a fun fireplace and heaters for the fall. Arguably the best chicken wings in the Twin Cities. I'm also a fan of their cajun fries. For those of you who live or work near Sweeney's, definitely check out their "Poor Man's" lunch special each day. If you are looking for a fun location to host a private event, their upstairs banquet room is great!

Yelp
This is SO overdue because I go to Sweeney's weekly. Sweeney's is your quintessential neighborhood bar. It's a place to grab a quick drink with someone (that won't break the bank), it's fabulous for late night food and it has a great (smoking) patio which is nice to go to during the summer. The service is decent, the food is decent, and their beer selection is good. Sweeney's really is just laid back and perfect for a group of 2 or a party of 20. Pros: Late night food menu. Their fries are yummy and their chicken wings are MASSIVE. Patio, but it is ok to smoke which can be gross Cozy and homey without being dingy Cons: Parking can be a struggle There's nothing particularly healthy to choose from. All in all, there's a reason my partner and I go just about every week!

Yelp
Sweeny's is a solid neighborhood bar. The happy hour has solid options for both food and drink. Summer months the patio outback is great. The food is not anything special so I would strongly urge folks to attend happy hour or and try the 99 cent tacos or the. $6 chicken fingers and fries with the mayo mustard.

Yelp
I love Sweeneys. The prices are good, the service is great, and the atmosphere is comfortable. I especially love the patio in the summer. It reminds me of when I lived in New Orleans. The whole place has a friendly, neighborhood vibe and it isn't pretending to be anything it isn't.
